Um, anyone with a Vado file to share?

I see this forum is about as dead as a ghost town, but perhaps that's because the product has just been released. In any case, I HOPE someone is at least reading things.
Like about everyone else in the world right now in the market for one of these tiny camcorders, I'm torn between the Mino and the Vado. Yeah, I know about the specs for the Vado that favor it (like battery life, recording length) but my primary interest in any of these things is the ability to edit the footage in my favorite editor, Adobe Premiere.
I was able to verify that I can't read the nati've format Mino files in Premiere, and I'm not happy with how I must convert them. Now, I suspect I'll face the same thing with the Vado, but I'd sure like to get a raw file to verify this. So could anyone please send me one? mike at kelleytown dot com and I'd be forever in your debt.

Hope you got the file, but just so you know Adobe Premiere hates the Vado AVI files. Tried and tried.
Love my Vado HD, it really is wicked cool, but I've tried to Sony Vegas, Premiere, Adobe Video Studio, Cyberlink Powerdirector, and of course Windows Movie Maker and they all hate Vado HVI's!
Will there ever come a day where software/tech companies stop trying to rule the world? ...... Ooooops, I forgot, it's already been done. Google is taking over the world exactly because they are trying to serve it first.
BTW I saw a post earlier that recommended Magix; I'll try it next.

Has anyone with Windows successfully set up "Accounts" disk file sharing?

I bought an Airport Extreme basestation (the one with Wifi-N and gigabit ethernet)a few days ago and set it up on the network.
So far the wifi part has been nice - the range and speed (and stability) are a lot better than the Belkin draft-N wifi I had been using.
I've also been able to share a few FAT-32 USB disks (Iomega brand) using the "with device password" option and it seems to work nicely in this mode.
But what I really want to do is setup access by the "with a disk password" and via "accounts" - but after several hours of troubleshooting and checking on the Internet, I get the impression that neither work.
For example, when I am sharing the disks in Device mode, I can connect to the IP from windows explorer and access using any user name and the device password. This works great.
When I set it to "Disk" mode - it doesn't work at all - no matter what user name and password are used. I tried using both the disk and device password. I get a windows error "... is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource..." which is consistent with the user and password authentication failure. I have the same experience when setting the disk sharing for "Account" mode.
Repeated rebooting of the Airport Extreme and Laptop did not help at all. I also tried after killing the Airport utility/assistant that sits in the task bar as it seems useless. The results are the same with the utility activated or not.
A few more details:
I have the Airport Extreme in 'bridge' mode - the IP is generated by a broadband router connected to a cable modem. I updated the firmware from the 7.2.1 that came installed to the latest (7.3.2).
I read on the Internet a number of posts from both Mac and Windows users reporting bugs in the security software on the airport for filesharing. So my question is - has anyone with a Windows (XP, vista, etc) gotten the file sharing to work with anything other than Device mode? Eg. Disk mode, Account mode, etc?
I know several people that use these devices, but nobody is using in this mode. I talked 2 friends to try setting up users and they couldn't get it to work either. But it's not a big deal to them since they don't use that feature.
If anyone is using it like this, I'd like to know how you set it up. If you had this problem and what you did to fix it. Thanks!

I suspect I may never know why, but now, inexplicably, everything is working.
Out of curiosity, I tried to connect via an older win2000 machine that we use for a file server and it worked!
After we rebooted the other XP machines, they started working too.
I'm sure the fix was anything but connecting a win2000 machine, but I'm just happy it works now!

How can I make Firefox stop setting all downloaded files to "Share with nobody"?

For the last few months, every file I download with Firefox has its homegroup share option set to "Share with nobody". All my user accounts are administrator level, I have the sharing set properly in the destination file, and I am using FF 27.0.1. I have set the "scan when done" and "save zone information" to false in about:config. I have always had FF set to ask me where to save a download every time, and I've only had this problem recently. A couple topics said that this would be fixed in 27, but it is not for me.

The problem is created by using the temp folder, which is locked to the current user. Instead of copying the file from the temp folder, pasting to the desired download location, then deleting the file from the temp folder, Firefox uses a faster move command (when the destination is on the same drive as the temp folder). That move command does not rewrite the permissions to match the destination.
I think someone tried to work around this by making the permissions on the temp folder more liberal, but I don't think that worked or at least I don't recall anyone proclaiming success with that. (I don't think it's possible to force Firefox to use a folder other than the system temp folder.)

Has anyone had a problem with mail mbox files?

In Mail for Mac - I was moving a few old 'sent' files to the trash, the programme then closed as I was doing so. When I reopened the Mail application. I couldn't see any Sent messages. The .mbox shows it has retained all it's content but it cannot be opened. I have copied the .mbox to another location and sent an emial. This created another sent .mbox with the single sent file in it - so the Mail Application is working OK. When I repalced the new .mbox with the old one I still couldn't see it's contents. Can anyone help?

I don't use Carbonite nor have I read anything about it, but do they just keep one copy of the latest backed-up file? That seems a bit short-sighted. Are there maybe options for recovering older versions that you're not seeing?
Data can be very valuable in these modern times.
I use a number of different forms of backup, including scheduled system image backups to external USB drives, scheduled data file backups to other drives and systems in my network, and even copying critical data to BD-R discs by hand occasionally.
I'm sorry for your loss of data, mhall5553, but let this be a wake up call to all readers of this thread that you need to take the time to think about what's being backed up and whether you're protected well-enough from various different kinds of data loss.
Don't forget to think about what if you yourself screw up a file - e.g., accidentally save over one you really want to keep.
It's not necessary to get a subscription to an online service to do backup. It may seem a bit geeky but all computer systems provide some backup capabilities (e.g., to external USB drives, to discs, to other internal drives, etc.) - even if it's just a matter of copying your critical files yourself.
Expect the worst and hope for the best.
Speaking of which, glad we're all still here on this December 21, 2012.

P.S., I was disappointed to learn that in Windows 8 Microsoft has deprecated the "Previous Versions" feature that was integrated with their Windows Backup tool in Windows 7. They claim to have replaced it with something called "File Versions", I suppose to try to follow Apple's lead with Time Machine, but people are not finding File Versions to work very well.

Nooo or you would use OS X Recovery Mode: Disk Utilty and then Startup Disk.

Everything works beautifully on the iPad through Preview, and validates through iTunes Producer up until the attempted upload. Today I received the same error that you all have been discussing. I tried selecting the DRM
and this did not work for me, though I'm glad it did for some. Here's what I did as a work-around. . .
Since iBooks Author did not have a problem with Videos, I simply used one of my video programs, ScreenFlow to turn the audio into a video file m4v. I added an image and extended the length or timing of the image to span the length of the audio file. Then exported as an .mov. I then opened QuickTime and opened the file and exported the file to iTunes.
You can use iMovie, Camtasia or any other progam that will allow you to export the audio as a movie file. Does this make sense? I hope this helps, at least in the short-term.

Is there anyone with CS4 that could convert my CS5 idml file to inx so I can open in CS3? My school upgraded to CS5 and now I can't work on documents on my own computer at home. I want to work on a particular project at home but need it converted I do not own CS4 or know of anyone with it to help me. Can anyone help me with retreiving datalog files?

I have been working to find a way to read an analog input signal as a waveform, and then attempting to save the data (as just the raw data--like ordered pairs) to a file. Obviously, I would like to be able to read this data later on, but I have been unable to do so as of yet. I have been working with saving the data as datalog files. I am attaching both my read and write file VI's, and I wonder if anyone may be able to tell me what is going wrong. The problem seems to be with the read file. The write file generates a file, but when I try to read this file, the read file does not recognize it as a valid datalog file and will not read it. My programs are very similar to those in ....\examples\file\datal
og.llb, but I have not been able to actually read the files I create. I hope I have been clear enough in describing my problem. Thank you for any help you can offer.

I have InDesign CS3 on my work computer and need to take a file home to work on but I have only CS on my home computer. Would anyone with CS2 be willing to take my INX file and resave again in CS2 as an INX file and send it back to me so I can open it in CS?? Would be forever grateful!!

I'm using cs5.5 to design something for work, however my work uses cs3.... i only just learned that indesign isn't backwards compatible. Any chance anyone with cs4 can export to a cs3 file for me?

InDesign is not forwards compatible: any version of it cannot read files created with newer ones.
That's nothing to be amazed about. Most software is not forwards compatible, I only know of one exception, and that is Microsoft Word.
InDesign is backwards compatible all the way to CS (v.3) at least -- the modern vsns of InDesign should still be able to read those files.

looks like it's just an animated gif letting users know their file
is uploading; if you want realtime upload information displayed for
the user you're gonna have to look at something like Flash with the
power of actionscript to achieve that result.

Using AirPort Time Capsule as an external drive with access to files by guest account

Is it possible to use my AirPort Time Capsule as an external drive with access to files by a guest account?
I would like to store a large number of folders containg photographs on my AirPort Time Capsule and allow anyone with a password to access the photographs - at the time of viewing the Time Capsule would be connected to the internet but I wouldn't want users to actually access anything other than the files on the Time Capsule - is this possible? if so any help in configuring it would be really helpful.

No it is not possible.. Guest is just that.. a guest that is allowed permission to access the internet but none of the local files.
To give a person access to the TC they must have password to access your normal network..
From there it is up to you how you do this.. people cannot actually access files on your computers unless you give them share and password permissions for that.. you can even setup accounts on the TC although I recommend against it.. if you want shared photos anyway. All security on a TC is illusion.. merely pressing the reset and it is all blown away.. so if you are concerned about security don't put stuff on the TC people should not access.. or like your TM backups ensure they are encrypted.
A person can then access you TC and the photos.. but what else on the network??

Sound problem with QuickTime .dv files exported from iMovie ~ help please

I have been working for ages on an important project which is intended to wind-up as a numbered edition DVD, limited to 50 copies.
When I worked in iMovie HD 5 this NEW PROBLEM didn't arise: I did what I thought was the right thing and bought iLife '06, then upgraded from the Apple site, so now I am using iMovie HD 6.0.1, iDVD 6.0.1 and QuickTime Player 7.0.4.
I've designed my own menus and the procedure as most anyone will know [thanks iCreate magazine!] is...you have to 'export' (or now 'share') the iMovie to QuickTime (or with QuickTime) which produces a .dv file which you then drag-and-drop into iDVD.
I've got 4 of these .dv files for the start-up and some menus.
THE PROBLEM IS whereas the sound (it's actually music) has been faded out (in synch with the image) ~ in iMovie everything seems fine ~ but THE QUICKTIME .dv FILES HAVE AN ANNOYING LITTLE "FLARE-UP" OF MUSIC AT THE END OF THEM.
Imported into iDVD, in preview: sure enough! ~ you hear the annoying, untidy-sounding snips at the end.
It's ruining my project ~ please help, someone!

I am having the exact problem, it's a real show stopper.
I have tested hardware, software, media as below.
Tested on
1 Intel 17inch iMac
2 G4 AGP 450 + 1.2Ghz Model
Each have a fresh install of iLife 06 on
Each have been tested with different project files.
Differnet music files
The issue seems to be with apples iLife software to me.
I am on the phone to apple right now, they only surgest I create a new user as it generates new prefs, but the above test has already rulled out preference files!
Also rebuilding and reinstalling, but again the above test has rulled that out as the 3 machines were freshly built.
I have already upgraded my graphics card in my machine at home to sort out preview problems with iMovie, hopefully it's not going to be an expensive audio card aswell.
If any 1 can throw any light on this please do as apple support can't.
