UME Storage in Portal

Hi Guys,
I would like to know where is UME information i.e. User ID  and other logon data stored in portal? I mean is it the same way as in ABAP stack USR02, USR04 etc tables?
What are the corrosponding tables in portal?
Thanks in Advance

Hi Amit,
UME can be integrated with any of the data sources like database, LDAP or WAS to provide the central user aministration. It fetches the data from any of the above and works seamlessly with the system. Even if you are not using the LDAP or WAS the user credentials are stored in the system database of the J2EE engine.
Hope it helps.

  • Best Practices for data storage in portal database

    Hi,
I need to store some stuctured data which is related to portal only. This data may grow data by data and may huge amount some point of time.
Iam thinking which is the best way to handle it like maintanance point of view.
i think i can store it in R/3 as custom table which is easy to maintain and read/write using RFC.
the other one is store it on the portal database (dictionary), may not be easy to handle it.
    suggestions please?
    Thanks.

Best way is to maintian data(growing data) on R3 and use  JCA to write a simple portal application(JSPDynpage or WD) to get the data back on portal.
Using JCA, won't affect noticeable portal performance..
Itz not advisable to store large data on dictionary.

  • Working scenario - Portal UME with LDAP

    Hi Experts,
I've installed Portal sneak preview which is 7.0 SP9 in my laptop and at the moment i'm using Web AS database is the user storage for portal.
Now wanted to change the user storage to any ldap (for windows) server and wanted to look at the working scenario.
    Now ..
    1. Which is the recommended LDAP server for windows, to the above scenarion
    2. Can i use LDAP is the user storage for sneak preview versions.

  • Automatic password reset for ADSUser in Portal UME

    Hi All,
    I have one scenario here:
Portal user base is set up in Solution Manager in production
For Adobe Document Service configuration, the system user - ADSUSER is residing in UME.
Now when I am changing the password and testing the configuartion everything is working fine.
But the next moment, the testing fails.
If I am trying to logging with ADSUSER credentials in the Portal,I am getting Authentication failure.
So it automatically gets reset to some unknown value.
I would appreciate any pointer in resolving the issue.
    Cheers
    Priya

    Hi
The account is not getting locked but if I am doing the Connection test for RFC Dest - ADS for the first time its getting sucessful but the very next time its failing and thats becuase on second attempt the password is getting reset
    Any idea what is occuring
Is it that since my Portal is connected to SOL MAN as UME ,I need to use the ADSUSER present in SOLMAN instead of Local UME of the Portal

  • Remove ABAP Statck from the Dual statck Portal system.

    Hi ,
I have our ESS portal( Netweaver 7.0) is  implemented on a Dual Stack. Dual stack for Portal was an idea by our Implementors which later we realized was unnecessory.
Now we are moving the Portal to a different machine. And we are planning to get rid of the ABAP stack and have just the JAVA Stack.
Currently our UME is the ABAP Stack. while i move this to single stack we are planning to point the UME to the back end ( ERP ) ABAP Statck.
What i need is a procedure how to achieve this.
Would be great help if somebody could throw some ideas.
    Thanks
    Jamshid.

    Dear Jamshid,
Unfortunately it is not possible to remove or uninstall the ABAP stack from a dual-stacks system.
What you can consider might be like this:
    1. export all the protal content which you have created and configured in this system.
    2. reinstall a new pure Java AS + Portal system
    3. then import all the content to this new to replace the old one.
Regarding changing the UME storage, there are some limitations, i.e, if you are using ABAP as the UME datasource then you can only change it to LDAP, and not possible to change to Java database.
    Best Regards,
    Thunder

I guess on Windows the best choice is ADS. If I get your requirement correctly you want to install a local LDAP Server on your machine correct? I don't know if it is possible to install ADS standalone on Win XP. In general you can use any LDAP Server so you should be able to get it working even with openLDAP if you are fimiliar with the LDAP protocol. I think openLDAP is not supported by SAP so maybe you should try something like SUN Directory Server (You can download a trial from the SUN Website). There is a version for Windows and it works without problems on WIN XP (I've tried a couple of times)
    2. Can i use LDAP is the user storage for sneak preview versions.
I bet you can. You just have to choose the appropriate XML-File for UME Userstore that supports LDAP as UME and it should work.I've not tried with trial version but I think there are no limitations in the trial version regarding UME configuration.
    3. Any useful documents to achieve this.
    Check these out:

All you have to take care of is to choose the appropriate hierarchy supported by UME to store your user information within your directory (all this is described in the pages linked above)
    4. Please remeber i'm on Windows XP.
    I do
    I hope this helps

  • Diadem Does not save data to neither portal nor file

I tried to acquire data from DAQ USB-6289 and save data to portal or file in DIADem DAC, but failed to get any data in portal, and no file was created, and no error was promptEd. But when I open a example file with saving function, it works fine. I'm sure there isn't any problem about the script since it is a very simple one. Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks a lot.
    Jing

    Hi Jing -
Since you said you're building your scheme based off of an example, I'm going to assume you've already included a Save Data or Save Data with Trigger block in your DAC scheme.  This is mandatory if you want to use Data Storage with either of the two following techniques.
If you're running your DAC scheme programmatically, are you using the SchemeMeasTest() command, or the SchemeMeasStart() command?  If you want your DAC scheme to be run with Data Storage (Data Portal or File) enabled, you'll need to use the SchemeMeasStart() command.  The other command merely runs the scheme with visualization only (as a test).
If you're running your DAC scheme interactively, are you pressing the Start Display button or the Start Measurement button (see below)?  These two buttons are the interactive versions of the aforementioned programmatic commands.  If you want to test your visualization without Data Storage, use the Start Display button.  If you want data to be saved to either the Data Portal or File, use the Start Measurement button.
Let me know if this still doesn't help.

  • SAP  Portal  unable to recognize  AD requirement to change initial password

    Hi,
We configured Active Directory server (2008 R2) as UME for SAP Portal (Netweaver 7.01  SP7).  We matched as many of the security parameters as possible* (ex.  minimum password length, require one number in password, etc.).  The AD parameter "User must change password at Next logon" is set ON.  However, upon attempt to login to SAP Portal with the initial password that was set in AD we are not prompted to change the password.  Rather, the SAP Portal logon attempt fails with message:  "Authentication Denied"
Has anyone dealt with this problem before?
    Other information:
*Our MarketPlace researched indicated that the SAP Portal parameter "ume.ldap.security_policy.password_change_required" (which would correspond to the AD parameter mentioned above) is no longer an available parameter for our SAP Portal version (Netweaver 7.01  SP7).
In our version of SAP Portal, the AD parameter "User must change password at Next logon" has one parameter which is similar, but does not directly correspond.  The SAP Portal parameter which we do have is "No password change required".  Notice this is the logical opposite of the AD parameter:  AD says to require the password, whereas SAP Portal says it's NOT required.  Therefore, when the AD parameter is set to ON, this results in the Portal parameter being set to OFF.  Even still, we face the login failure.

You have to note here that implementing SAP IDM is only ONE of the possible options you have. The implementation of IDM in itself is a huge undertaking because of the number of systems and the decision making process involved with it.
In one of my previous implementations, when SAP IDM was not around, we had Tivoli Access Management tools which took care of the password problems.
even though we implement IDM and deploy IDM UI on Portal , still user should change password before it expires on AD right ?
Even with IDM in place, user will not be able to login to SAP portal with an expired AD password. However, in our case, we provide a link on the logon page of SAP portal to the IDM password self service application which will allow the user to change the password.
Does IDM has any feature like sending notifications before password expiration period ?
I don't think it does - however I have not explored this option in IDM since most of our users do not have email addresses and we cannot send a reminder. You should be able to create a task (with some customization) in IDM to achieve this.
Also will the IDM implementation help us in creating users with option "User should change password at next logon" on AD ?
Yes - IDM does create users with option "User should change password at next logon" in AD.
With IDM in place and tied to AD, it should be the central place of creating users. It is recommended NOT to create or manipulate the users in any target systems (SAP, AD, etc). IDM should be taking care of all the user provisioning activities.
is this like a work around to allow users to change password from Portal before it gets expired on Active Directory(AD) ?
This is not a work around - it is rather a full blown identity management solution for all your company needs.
You will get a lot of your IDM specific questions answered in the Identity Management forum.
    Thanks,
    Shanti

  • Development component for UME usage in WebDynpro

    Hi,
We develop several WebDynpros using the UserMappingService. Those WebDynpros are checked into the NWDI. Local builds are fine since we copied the relevant jar files into the project and referenced them in the classpath.
Builds in the NWDI fail because there the jar files for UME (com.sap.portal.usermapping.jar, com.sap.portal.usermappingapi.jar) are missing. Is there a development component we can reference so that the build infrastructure is able to find the jar files when trying to build the project?
Or am i supposed to put those jars into a library development component? This would us make prone to changes in the API since we keep our servers and developer machines at the same SPS.
    kind regards
         Dirk
PS: we use EP 6 SPS 18 and NWDS 2.0.18 for development and production.

    Hi,
If u r using DC for ur development then the jar file should not be added in the build path because it will be removed at build time.
For adding ur libraries u should be using an external library component. Expose this library file as public part. This is only a buildable component.
For deploying this library in the server u should create a new J2EE library component and in this used DC add the exposed public part. Deploy this application.
Finally in the Main component used DC add the External library component and in the references of ur project give the j2ee library component.
    For reference see valery's blog

  • Disable Change password on first time login in portal

    Hi Experts,
This question is with regard to the UME user.
Portal asks its users to change the password on the first login. How can i remove this property. whatever password the admin assigns should be used to login at all the times. The portal should not ask to change the password on first login.

  • Access UME from another J2EE engine

    Hi,
I use a webdynpro application in a webdynpro iview, but the application is deployed to another server than the portal. It works so far, but I have to access the UME to read out informations about roles. But I can only access the UME of the server where I deployed the application, however I need to access the UME of the portal. How can I access the UME of the portal server, it is even possible?
    Regards
    Roman

    Roman,
The 2 solutions came to my mind are
         1. deploying your application on the server which has your portal running on it. This ultimately not favourable to your case.
         2. Creating a webservice for the UME data and deploying onto server that has portal running on it. consuming this webservice in your
webdynpro application and deploying on any other server of your choice.
may not be of much help for you but some ideas....

  • Replication to UME

We are using UME for external portal users, and LDAP for internal portal users.  We would like to update the email address in the UME from the vendor master in our ERP system.  Any ideas how this can best be accomplished?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi,
For this, you can use import functionality of the UME. Using this you can import data from the external system. To know more about this function please refer the following link as well.

  • Disk Performance of DS-Series VMs (Premium Storage)

We're running performance tests on two new Standard DS13 (8 Core, 56 GB) VMs (both using the latest/default Windows 2012 R2 image) backed by Premium Storage and have hit a wall with step 1 in testing the local SSD performance.
We understand 25% of the 400GB local SSD for these VMs is made available as temporary storage and the other 75% is used for Premium Storage caching:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/12/11/new-premium-storage-backed-virtual-machines/
On the remaining 25%, we expect to see performance along these lines:

The 5000 IOPS advertised for the P30 is holding up but what about the 200 MB/s throughput per disk?
NOTE: Attempts to create the P30 data disk with ReadWrite cache policy result in:
Update-AzureVm : BadRequest: The disk cache setting ReadWrite is not supported for DataVirtualHardDisk.
    Any guidance would be appreciated:
Why is the local SSD storage throttled at 500 IOPS and 1-4 MB/s throughput?
How do we achieve 200MB/s on writes as we see with reads on P30s, what's the test to run?
Can you publish I/O benchmarks that we can run to validate our setup?

Curious as to why that's the guidance as the same scenario repeated with a P30 data disk
HostCaching set to None yields poorer performance across the board, at least with this crude benchmark:

              Sequential Write :    40.536 MB/s
             Random Read 512KB :    60.273 MB/s
