UMEBackendconnection (pool size)
Hi,
We are configuring AS Abap as our UME connection in SAP NW 7.3 ehp6, however we are unaware of the fact as to how to define the parameters for RFC destination "UMEBackendConnection"
We require information about how to configure the pool settings of this RFC Destination, we tried finding sap notes regarding this but were unable to get the proper solutions :
The default values are :
max connections : 10
pool size : 5
max. wait time in ms 10,000.
We actualy need to configure the above mentioned values according to our need..as to what value should be given according to our need,
please suggest.
thanks.
Hello,
Go to /nwa, search and select
-> Destinations
Select the destination, press edit button and go to Specific data tab.
Best regards, Encho

Connection pool size limit error
Hi all,
I am trying to execute a BAPI function from MII, execution fails with the following message;
[ERROR] Unable to make RFC call Exception: [Problem retrieving JCO.Function object: Connection pool <ECC_Server>:800:02:EN:ECCUser is exhausted. The current pool size limit (max connections) is 1 connections.]
[WARN] [SAP_JCo_Function_0] Skipping execution of output links due to action failure.
[ERROR] Uncaught exception from SAP_JCo_Function_0, Problem retrieving JCO.Function object: Connection pool <ECC_Server>:800:02:EN:ECCUser is exhausted. The current pool size limit (max connections) is 1 connections.
Config:
1. In 'SAP MII: Connections' of type JCO and have given pool size to 100.
2. In 'SAP MII: Credential Stores' store is created and same is being used in Start Session.
3. In JCO_Function block, we can search for the Function Module and set it.
MII Version:
14.0.2 Build(82)
Am I missing something?
Has any one seen this? please advise.
Thanks,
Message was edited by: Shridhar NCheck if there is another JCo connection configured with the same IP and User. I have found in the past that even though there are two connections configured because they have the same ip and user they are put into one pool with the lowest max pool of the two connections.

How do I set the initial servlet pool size in WL 5.1
In WL 4.5, I can set the initial servlet pool size using the
weblogic.httpd.servlet.SingleThreadedModelPoolSize. I tried to set this property in WL 5.1, and get an "Found undeclared property..." message when booting WL. Is this feature still supported in WL 5.1? If so, how do I set it?
Thankx
It appears that pool size of 5 is hardcoded somewhere - no matter where you specify
weblogic.httpd.servlet.SingleThreadedModelPoolSize, the following test servlet:
import javax.servlet.*;
import javax.servlet.http.*;
public class SingleT extends HttpServlet implements SingleThreadModel {
static int instanceCount = 0;
public SingleT() {
super();
System.out.println("Instance " + (++instanceCount) + " created");
always produces:
Instance 1 created
Wed Nov 01 11:15:36 PST 2000:<I> <ServletContext-General> SingleT: init
Instance 2 created
Wed Nov 01 11:15:36 PST 2000:<I> <ServletContext-General> SingleT: init
Instance 3 created
Wed Nov 01 11:15:36 PST 2000:<I> <ServletContext-General> SingleT: init
Instance 4 created
Wed Nov 01 11:15:36 PST 2000:<I> <ServletContext-General> SingleT: init
Instance 5 created

"max-pool-size" what is it good for?
SCreator simple CRUD use:
After a while I get:
" Error in allocating a connection. Cause: In-use connections equal max-pool-size and expired max-wait-time. Cannot allocate more connection"
Which is odd, because its just me using the server/database. It looks like every tiime I run a test, another conection is lost.
Do I have to restart the server? Is there a way to say "its only me, reuse a single connection"
why does "connection pooling" make life harder?
Can I turn it of?
cheers
ctsI got the same error in my JSC project. I search for few days and i found the solution. I do a mistake in my page Navigation. I forgot a slash in <to-view-id>.
A bad example:
<navigation-rule>
<from-view-id>/*</from-view-id>
<navigation-case>
<from-outcome>page13</from-outcome>
<to-view-id>page13.jsp</to-view-id>
</navigation-case>
A good example:
<from-view-id>/*</from-view-id>
<navigation-case>
<from-outcome>page13</from-outcome>
<to-view-id>/page13.jsp</to-view-id>
</navigation-case>
with this mistake, the afterRenderedResponse() was never called, and the ResultRowSet was never closed.

Hi,
I am Shanmugavel, SharePoint developer,
I am facing the below SharePoint 2013 deployment issue while deploying using VS2012.
If i will deploy the same wsp or existing wsp
(last build) using direct powershell deployment, the solution adding properly, but the same timeout exception coming while activation the features. Please find the below error.
I tried the below activists:
1. Restarted my dev server, DB server.
2. tried the same solution id different server
3. tried existing wsp file (last build version)
4. Deactivated all the features, including project Active deployment configuration.... but still i am facing the same issue.
I hope this is not coding level issue, because still my code is not start running, before that some problem coming.
Please help me any one..... Last two days i am struck because of this...What you need to understand is the installation of a WSP does not do much. It just makes sure that you relevant solution files are deployed to the SharePoint farm.
Next comes the point when you activate the features. It is when the code which you have written to "Activate" certain features for your custom solution.
Regarding the error you are getting, it typically means that you have more connections (default is I guess 100) open for a SQL database then you are allowed to.
If you have a custom database and you are opening a connection, make sure you close it as well.
Look at the similar discussion here:
The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool
size was reached[^]
I would suggest further to look at the
ULS logs[^] to get better insight.

Important conceptual question about Application Module, Maximum Pool Size
Hello everyone,
We have a critical question about the Application Module default settings (taking the DB connections from a DataSource)
I know that on the Web it is generally suggested that each request must end with either a commit or rollback when executing PL/SQL blocks "directly" on the DB without the framework BC/ViewObject/Entity service intervention.
Now, for some reasons, we started to develop our applications with thinking that each Web Session would reference exactly one DB session (opened by any instance taken from the AM pool) for the whole duration of the session, so that the changes made by each Web session to its DB session would never interfere with the changes made by "other" Web Sessions to "other" DB sessions .
In other words, because of that convincement we often implemented sort of "transactions" that open and close (with either commit or rollback) each DB session not in/after a single HTTP request, but during many HTTP Requests.
As a concrete example think of this scenario:
1. the user presses the "Insert" button. An HTTP request is fired. The action listener is executed and ends up with inserting rows in a table via a PL SQL block (not via the ViewObjects API).
2. no commit or rollback after the above PL/SQL block is done yet.
3. finally the user presses a "Commit" or "Rollback" button, firing the call to the appropriate AM methos.
Those three requests consist of what I called "transaction".
From the documentation it's clear that there is no guarantee that the couple AM istance + DB session is the same during all the requests.
This means that, during step 2, it's possible that another user might reference the same "pending" AM/DbSession for his needs and "steal" somehow the work done via PL/SQL after step 1. (This happens because sessions taken by the pool are always rolled back by default.)
Now my question is:
Suppose we set the "Maximum Pool Size" parameter to very a great number (always inferior to the maximum number of concurrent users):
Is there any guarantee that all the requests will be isolated in that case?
I hope the problem is clear.
Let me know if you want more details.Thanks for the answers.
If I am right, from all your answers about resource avaiability, this means that even supposing the framework is able to always give us the same AM instance back from the AM pool (by following the session-affinity criterias), there is, however, no "connection affinity" with the connections from the DataSource. This means that the "same AM instance" might take the "a new DB connection", if necessary, from the connection pool of the DataSource. If that happens, that could give us the same problems as taking "a new AM instance" (that is, not following session-affinity) from the beginning, since each time an a new connection is taken (either via a new AM instance or via the same AM instance plus a new DB connection), the corresponding DB session is rolle back by default, clearing all the pending transactions we might have performed before with direct PL/SQL calls bypassing the AM services during the life cycle of our application, so that the new HTTP request will have a clean DB session to start to work with. -
Change of Min Pool Size has no effect?
Hi, we are still using odp 9.2.0.4 on windows server 2003 webserver and oracle database 9i on Sun solaris. Recently we discovered a problem using Min Pool Size = 1, it seems that if new connections are required we sometimes get a connection timeout. So we decided to set Min Pool Size = 30, and on the testserver this works fine. In the odp tracefile (tracelevel=2) you see the 30 connections building up immediately. But on the production server we see no difference, it looks like the (new installed, application pool reset) application still uses the Min Pool Size = 1 setting.
The connection string is build up in application code. On the testserver it was sufficient to stop and start the website and its application pool, on the production server this has no effect.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem is??? We also tried restarting the IIS server, that did not help either. In production there are more applications using ODP.
Regards, Paul.What problem are you trying to solve at this point? Simply "why is odp not tracing?" The only suggestions I really have there are
1) make sure you restart the app after enabling tracing parameters
2) make sure the directory you've set tracing to is open as far as permissions
3) make sure you've set tracing in the right registry setting if you have multiple versions of ODP installed
4) if you're trying to write to c:\ root, try creating and pointing to a different (c:\odptrace for example) directory instead.
Hope it helps,

Set maximum session bean pool size?
Using the embedded OC4J, how can I set the maximum pool size for my session beans? I am using Jdeveloper 10g. Do I have to manually edit some XML file?
Set the system property com.sun.jndi.ldap.connect.pool.maxsize
System.setProperty("com.sun.jndi.ldap.connect.pool.maxsize", "25"); -
Mdb ejb won't load using steady-pool-size
I have a message driven bean I'm deploying in an .ear file. The sun-ejb-jar.xml file has the following:
<sun-ejb-jar>
<enterprise-beans>
<unique-id>1</unique-id>
<ejb>
<ejb-name>LoggerEJB</ejb-name>
<jndi-name>com.ecc.utils.LoggerTopic</jndi-name>
<mdb-connection-factory>
<jndi-name>com.ecc.utils.JMSTopicConnectionFactory</jndi-name>
</mdb-connection-factory>
<bean-pool>
<steady-pool-size>2</steady-pool-size>
<resize-quantity>1</resize-quantity>
<max-pool-size>5</max-pool-size>
<pool-idle-timeout-in-seconds>600</pool-idle-timeout-in-seconds>
</bean-pool>
</ejb>
</enterprise-beans>
</sun-ejb-jar>
Yet I see no evidence it is pre-loading my mdb ejbs. I have output statements and logging that would indicated an instance has actually loaded, and I am seeing none of it. So, what magic trick does it take to get the mdb to acutally use it's <steady-pool-size> setting in the descriptor file?
Also, how can you tell what ejbs and how many instances are loaded? I see nothing in the Console for this. Also, how can you monitor a topic/queue to see if anything is getting sent?
Tony FDoes the ext directory have the php_oci8.dll? In the original steps the PHP dir is renamed. In the given php.in the extension_dir looks like it has been updated correctly. Since PHP distributes php_oci8.dll by default I reckon there would be a very good chance that the problem was somewhere else. Since this is an old thread I don't think we'll get much value from speculation.

Guidelines for setting Application Module Pool Size Parameters?
Are there guidelines for setting the application module pool size parameters, such as initial pool size, maximum pool size, etc., based on the expected number of users or other factors? I've read the developer guide sections (ch 28-29), but still don't have a good feel for how to correctly set the optimal values for the pool configuration parameters? Even more importanty, how do I monitor the pool's efficiency during runtime to determine if the pooling parameters are configured correctly?
This will be critical to performance and scalability, so I'm looking for a way to get some visibility into how the pooling is working during production operation to assess whether there are bottlenecks/constraints/ineffeciencies?
Note I am using Tomcat as the java runtime container; ADF BC / JSF jdev 10.1.3.1
Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!KUBA - were you able to resolve these issues and if so are there any lessons learned you can share?
I'm hoping someone from the ADF team can answer our original question including guidelines for setting pool parameters and how to monitor the pool's performance while running in production.
thanks -
The reporting service web service connection pool reached the max pool size
I got a problem that it throw an exception "The timeout peroid elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connection was in use and max pool size was reached."
The satuation is our service use 15 thread to render report, but sometimes we met such exception I list above. I didn't change any configuration in rsreportserver.config, and it seems the connection to reportserver database from reporting service web
service was not disposed.
Is there any configuration I can modify to fix this issue?Hi Dexter,
In your case, we can try to increasing the size of the connection pool to resolve the issue. By default, the Max Pool Size is 100. You can refer to the similar issue below:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c57c0432-c27b-45ab-81ca-b2df76c911ef/timeout-expired-the-timeout-period-elapsed-prior-to-obtaining-a-connection-from-the-pool?forum=adodotnetdataproviders
Since the issue is related with ADO.NET. I suggestion you post the question in the following forum:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=adodotnetdataproviders
It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.

Setting max bean pool size in MDB
Hi,
I need to set the max bean pool size for my MDB to 1. This MDB is a part of my application and is packaged in an ear.
I tried to set it with the following annotation -
import javax.ejb.*;
@MessageDriven
(mappedName = "MyQueue",
name = "MyMDB",
activationConfig = {
@ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName="maxBeansInFreePool",
propertyValue="1"),
@ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName="initialBeansInFreePool",
propertyValue="1"),
@ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "destinationType", propertyValue = "javax.jms.Queue")
However, this does not seem to work since I see the Current pool count on the WLS console as 3 after processing is done.
After looking at various posts in this forum, I also tried it with weblogic ejbgen as follows-
import weblogic.ejbgen.*;
@MessageDriven(ejbName = "MyMDB",
destinationType = "javax.jms.Queue",
initialBeansInFreePool = "1",
maxBeansInFreePool = "1",
destinationJndiName = "MyQueue")
However, with this the MDB did not get deployed in WLS.
I am using Weblogic 10.3 / EJB 3.0.
Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
MeeraAs far as I know, it currently isn't possible to set max-beans-in-free-pool via annotations. You can use a deployment plan (configurable from console and/or follow the link supplied by atheek1).
I think you can also automatically generate descriptors based on javadoc text via ejb-gen, I'm not quite sure if this tooling can work in conjunction with EJB 3.0 annotations. See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/ejb/EJBGen_reference.html

What can be the maximum thread pool size used in java.
What happens if i put up a thread pool size in range of 10k or 20k.
how does affect system performance ???
Its quite urgent for me to know. Can someone help out ???
Regards
HrushiI'd say it depends on the machine you are running on, amount of memory and number of CPUs and such, not on Java itself. And with that many threads your implementation better be darn good in order not to be the bottleneck...
