UMI interlock issue

I just had a setup moved from one location to another and I can't make it work anymore.
The setup is a PCI-7330 controller, a UMI-7772, a P7000 series driver on axis 1 (currently not connected) and a custom driver on axis 2.
The issue seems to be with the intelock since this LED on the UMI-7772 doesn't turn off so the axis DISABLE LED stays ON.
When I test the controller it passes the test, when I initialize it  I receive an OK message and the ''shutdown'' box is unchecked in my controller settings. I tried some connect/disconnect of the controller cable on both controller and UMI sides but the Interlock LED stays ON. I also tried with my emergency switch in both position and disconnecting it from the global stop connector.
Any idea or suggestion on what might be the issue?

Ben,
the interlock LED should indicate that the host bus voltage (+5 V) is not present. Typically that means, that the PC is not turned on. In your case this seems to indicate a hardware issue with either the 7330, the 7772 or the cable.
Please check for bent pins and if you have connected the cable correctly. In fact the pins of the high densitiy motion cables are quite robust, but with a decent amount of force it's possible to plug the cable onto the connector the other way round.
If this is not the reason for your problem, you should try to track the +5 V signal from the board's connector to the end of the cable. If you can't find the source of the issue, please try to switch individual components of the system, but of course this is only possible, if you have spare components of the same type.
If nothing works, you should contact your local NI branch. Maybe they can loan you a board, a cable and a UMI, so you could find out the broken component.

  • UMI-7774 / PCI 7340 Disable Indicator Error

    I'm using the UMI-7774 and PCI 7340.  All components are connected properly stated internally with MAX, but all AXIS are disabled apon power up.  I can't clear the disable AXIS 1-4. The Inhibit All and Interlock are not illuminated.   I have trited to Initilalize the controller with "Clear Power Up Status.flx" and "Initialize Controller.flx". Yet every try and repower I cannot un disable all 4 AXIS. 
    Does anyone can help this issue, I have hit a wall??

    Thanks for contacting NI.  I've looked into your problem and just wanted to confirm that you are calling the PU Reset.flx the same way that I am.  I rebooted my card so that it is in Power Up Reset state and then ran the attached screenshot and received no errors and the move went ok.
    Are you able to initialize the board in MAX even?  If you are unable to clear the PU Reset status at all, then there may be something else going on, but if you can clear it in MAX and then your program works fine, then this screenshot that I'm attaching to this post should work out for you.  Let me know how it goes.

  • Wireless issue on Lenovo B570e2 with Atheros AR9285

    Hello,
    I have just bought a Lenovo B570e2 with an Atheros AR9285 wireless card and have from now lost two days trying to make it work. Since it works perfectly with Windows 7, it doesn't seem to be an hardware issue. The card is recognized and the ath9k module is loaded, but I cannot see any wireless network, whilst Windows 7 detects more than 10 at the same location.

    I don't usually use front end like NM or Wicd, here's what I've done :
    ip link set wlan0 up
    wpa_passphrase <my ssid> <my password> > /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
    wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
    Then no result. As I wrote earlier, I've also added "sscan_ssid=0".
    The problem is that "iwlist scan" does'nt get any result, meaning that my network card can't see wireless network around...

  • Issue with electronic mail address in profile

    As a part of the conversion process, one of the electronic mail addresses I use was effectively 'burned in' to my profile. Clearly I can make it visible, or keep it hidden - but there is a problem. The public address I previously had listed for this purpose is not available - instead it's the private address that is displayed!
    Think of it like this:

    [email protected] [public address]
    It was the public one previously visible - it's now the private one, currently set to hidden, which is the only one I can choose to display or hide. Can anything be done about this, or are we stuck with this 'converted' change to our profiles?

    This is aggravated by the fact that I have four such identities - though I only use one here in Apple Discussions - with varying levels of access to ADC, GSX and other generally non-public areas at Apple. Managing them, including my .Mac ID, is at times a challenge, and I hesitate to do anything at all to upset the delicate balance. Unless the Discussions profiles revert to a primary private electronic mail address with a secondary optional 'public' address, I suppose I will just have to use the previously non-public address that became the sole available address following the conversion.

  • NI PCI 7342 and UMI 7764

    Hello All,
    I am using the PCI-7342 to control 2 servos for co-ordinated motion. I am using UMI7764 to breakout Motion IO to connect to my Servo Amplifiers. I am confident that the system will work fine because I have used a similar setup before. The issue I have now is that the UMI 7764 unit is farther than 2meters from the PC. I called NI and the tech said that NI doesn't have any cables longer than 2M to solve my problem. So she directed me to this forum. I was little disappointed that NI doesn't have any option or may be she is just not aware of it.
    I have following questions here. First, is it OK to have the UMI 7764 mounted farther than 2 meters from the PCI card? (I need one extra meter here) Has any one used a setup where he or she needed to mount the Break Out Board farther than 2 meters and if so than was there any issues with the signal degradation that was observed? Is there any limitation on distance mentioned any where on NI documentation ?
    Secondly if it's Ok technically to be farther than 2 m than who is the cable manufacturer? I was starting to search L-com.com. Is there any other source besides L-com.

    I have a testing machine (which permits to stretch or to compress samples) that I have to analyze with an aim to re-do the processing part (command part).
    I send to you a diagram of the machine and a diagram with the connection to the UMI 7764.
    I have to do moving the horizontal part, obtained thanks to the rotate of the two long screws.
    This screw turns thanks to the speed that supplies the motor (gearwheel + driving belt).
    To control the motor, I have to apply to the terminals AOUT and AGND, the consign voltage (є [-10V; +10V]), image of the motor speed rotate.
    +10V → 3000 rpm
        0V → 0 rpm
    -10V  → -3000 rpm

  • UMI-7774 Axis1 Inhibit input/output (and Fault +/-) to corresponding Servo Drive signals

    Hi,
    I have servo drive (yaskawa sigma fsp) that i configured to work in Position command mode,
    And i want to connect it to UMI-7774 with PCI-7344 also configured in MAX to work in P-Command mode.
    The Servo drive has these signals:
    /S-ON    (Servo ON input)
    ALM+    (Servo alarm output)
    ALM      (Servo alarm output)
    The UMI-7774 on its Control Connector of Axis1 has these signals:
    Enable
    Fault+
    Fault-
    i read the umi7774 manual and also the servo drive manual, and didnt understand all the things because
    the umi7774 manual named the signals Inhibit-input, inhibit-output
    but there is no signals in this name on the UMI-7774/Axis1/Control Connector.  
    So, i think the wiring i need to make is :

    can i directly connect the signals using Pigtail cables the National instruments provide?

  • Interlocked operations in user-mode

    Hi, I understand there isn't a interface for interlocked operations in user-mode.
    I would appreciate any help on how to write an implementation by myself. This help should
    also include how to compile assembler files in SOLARIS , or how to inline assembler in the
    C sources themself.

    these days it might be cheaper to create multiple copies. Anyway, this has to do with design,
    and good design should address the issue.

    <sys/atomic.h> would do.Once again, I would probably agree with the argument - provided, we are talking about single
    platform implementation. Unfortunately enough, interlocked operations aren't part of any standard,
    so there is no way to create any platform-independent solution (unless one wants to use
    concurrency-supportive languages like Ada 95).
    I'd vote for inclusion of interlocked primitives into POSIX standard - then it will become mandatory
    for the platform vendors... I doubt, however, whether Micro$oft would support this gracefully - so
    far they have screwed up everything they've ever touched... :(

  • Gradient interlocking circular arrows in Illustrator

    hi there- I was wondering how you make interlocking circular arrows similar to this in Illustrator:
    I can do the circular arrows one of two ways:
    create a circular outline, split into 3, put arrow heads on, make them a fill and add gradient OR
    create a circle and split into 3 and add triangles for arrow heads.
    The issue I have is that one arrow head needs to be separated from the line and brought to the front so it's interlocked and still has the gradient intact - if that makes sense...? The 2nd and 3rd image shows where I am at the moment.
    How do you do this?!
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    This may be cheating, but I'd create a symbol and duplicate around the center point. Then duplicate the problem arrow and mask the front copy:
    This method lets you add as many arrows as you like to the circle.

  • What is /INHIN1 terminal in the UMI-7764? It's not in the 7344 HW user manual.

    What is the purpose of the /INHIN1 terminal and how does it relate to the Inhibit Output signal?

    The basic purpose of the inhibit circuitry is to shut down the drive and inform other components in the system if a fault is detected. The UMI-7764 has circuitry onboard that will OR together four different sources of inhibits; the per axis controller inhibits, the per axis external inhibits (INHINx), the external inhibit all (INHALL), and the host bus interlock. You can use the INHINx lines to shut down an individual axis or the INHALL line to shut down all axes. These are typically wired to the "fault" output of the drive(s) you are using. When the UMI detects an inhibit from any of the four sources, then it will generate an inhibit signal on the INHOUTx lines. The INHOUTx lines are generally connected to the "enable" inputs on the drive(s). The polarity o
    f the INHINx and INHOUTx lines is configurable using the switches on the UMI.
    Do not simply tie any of these signals high or low with a jumper. Failure to properly connect the inhibit/enable signals can cause (and has caused) expensive damage to your motion system.

    It seems maybe the Turkish characters in some filenames might be causing the issue, we'll try replacing the characters and see if that helps. In the meantime any other suggestions would also be appreciated.

  • Kollmorgen Motors with PCI-7342 and UMI-7772

    Hi,
    I am trying to connect a pair of third-party servo-motors (Kollmorgen AKM11B-ANCNC-00) and drives (Kollmorgen AKD P00306-NBAN-0000) using a National Instrument motion controller NI PCI-7342 and motion interface NI UMI-7772.
    Ever since the setup has been connected to a new computer, the motors aren't moving even though they are connected. The motors are detected by the GUI for the motors (Kollmorgen Workbench) but the program shows that the hardware is not enabled.
    It has also been noticed that the LED indicating 'Interlock' shows red, and so do the LEDs indicating the 'Disabled' for both the axes on the UMI.
    The 'Axis Configuration' for both axes on the NI MAX program indicate 'Enabled'.
    Since only the PCI board has been switched from the old computer (where the setup was working well) to the new one, most cable connections have been left untouched.
    Any help/suggestions on why the motors aren't working is welcome.

Anyway in accordance to the link you attached to the previous reply, we changed the settings on the NI MAX program to correspond that on the switch (on the UMI) and now we don't get the error (70119). Thanks for that.
    But we still cannot get the motors to work. The 'interlock' light is still on. We took out the 'control' and 'feedback' ports that go into the UMI for the two axes and probed the voltage between pin 6 and pin 9 on the control port. One link (from the Knowledgebase) had suggested that we would get a voltage around 24V, but we did not. It was the same for both the axes. Does that suggest anything ? Should we look into replacing the cables connecting the UMI and the motion controller (even though the they were working fine before we moved set-up) ? Or could it even have something to do with the motion controller itself ?

  • Issue with correct trajectory reading using Labview and Compumotor

    Hi everyone,
    I am having some issues with my compumotor/Labview communication and was wondering if anyone had any advice.
    My setup is a National Instruments PCI-7432 control board linked to a
    UMI-7762 Interface board then I have my driver and motor, the Compumotor
    M83-135 R14, serial 18054. When I use the NI Measurement and Automation Explorer and tell it to go at a velocity, the velocity is no where near the commanded value.
    It is not returning any errors either, I’ll tell it to do say 500 rpm’s and it will take ~2.5 seconds to make a complete revolution. I can get the motor to spin at a very fast rate so it is working, I just was wondering if there was something wrong that would cause it to deviate so far off the assigned velocity.
    I didn't know if I accidentally changed a setting with labview that would cause it not to read the velocity correctly or something like that.

        It sounds like one possible issue is that your feedback is not correct.  In which case you'll want to check encoder feedback -- disable your motor in software but leave everything connected.  Then manually turn the motor and check if the 1-D Interactive section in MAX reports the correct steps per one revolution. If not, then check that the encoder setup section is correct, specifically the encoder counts per revolution.
        Also, your motor may need to be tuned, assuming that it hasn't already been tuned.  Is your motor a servo or stepper motor?  From what I could find online it looks like the M83-135 is probably a servo.  Here are a couple links to documents that will help you tune your motor, which often solves velocity issues:

  • Danaher p70360 drive issue

    Hello,
    I am using Danaher P70360 drive connected to UMI-7772 and NI 7330 card to control T21NRLC stepper motor. I have been using this drive for a while now without problem.
    I happen to have 5 other P70360 drives, and I recently tried another one with another T21 stepper using the same setup as above. With this other drive, the motor suddenly halt when only a small torque is beeing applied on the shaft, while when switching back to my previous P70360 the motor runs fine.
    I have tried all other 4 P70360 drives and the same issue happens; only my first P70360 drive seems to "work" correctly.
    But then, when opening the case of all 6 drives, I see that the 5 drives that I am having issue with have the same kind of "model number" written over the dip switches, while the number written on the "good" P70360, the one working correctly, differ from the 5 other drives (see attached pictures, number is on the right of the red part; the "good" drive numbe is 0820U 3 1).
    Still, it is not obvious that the different "model number" be the source of the issue here, but I could not find anything else that could be wrong.
    Any ideas?

    Hello Mark,
    This sounds like a very strange problem indeed. Unfortunately, NI-MAX cannot be used to load or import configuration settings for this drive. Are you using the same axis on the 7330 and UMI when testing each drive? Are any axis settings being changed between tests?
    I honestly think the best troubleshooting step will be to attempt to use P7000 tools to make sure that all drive settings are the same for each drive. This will also allow you to jog the motor without using the 7330 card, further eliminating a potential problem. 
    Have you tried contacting Kollmorgen support about this problem?

  • UMI-7774 - Setting default Power up outputs?

    Hi,
    I'm using a UMI7774, PXI7350, NI Motion 7.4.0.3002, and LV 8.2 I have a 24 V power supply connected to Viso on the UMI. When the PXI computer boots the general purpose digital output lines (table 3-9 in the UMI manual) on the 25-pin D-sub go to 24V and stay there until the board is initialized. Is there a way to set the default power up state to 0V?

    is currently no direct method for accessing the DPull pin. One work-around
    would be to create your own custom cable in order to ground this pin.   Here is
