UML295 consuming all available hard drive space

Hello,
I have encountered a problem with multiple people on multiple computers. I am presuming these are some kind of cache files for the enhanced interface, but the device will consume all hard drive space available within %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Verizon
I am attempting to do a sitdown with the user, but I suspect it will be all things normal. I am wondering if anyone has seen this or knows anything. We do use Cisco AnyConnect, but so far, I haven't seen anything documented for behavior compared to the UML290 which required us changing the way the device identified itself to the operating system.

  • Firefox eventually consumes all available hard drive space while running

I have 1-2 GB available on my hard drive. When I leave Firefox running for a while (a few hours to a few days, not sure what triggers this behavior), my available hard drive space goes down and down until it gets down to 0. If I quit Firefox, the hard drive space frees up.
I always have multiple windows and tabs open. I'd rather not quit Firefox ever, but I have to to get my HD space back. Sometimes it doesn't seem to happen for a long time, and then it starts happening. I've been rebooting about weekly recently and it hasn't helped any.

I would also have assumed it was just variations in VM usage & application or system memory usage - except that it may show, say, 300 MB available AFTER rebooting, and then, without my launching any applications or using the computer, just immediately rebooting a second time, show 2 GB available.... so somehow the space available isn't be allocated properly it seems to me...
I was also afraid that I was running with too little available space - but have been doing so for months now without these problems. I've got a lot of large video files on the drive, no other drive available to transfer them to, no $$ right now for purchases... and didn't want to delete the videos. I need to transfer more to CD/DVD's but have done all the 'easy' ones that are less than 700 MB already, and have to either waste DVD's or take the time to convert them to versions that will allow the DVD to play on TV also - something I haven't tried yet and gather takes a bit of time. So I've been running along with the drive pretty full.
I would really like to know how to find any 'junk files' like temp files, any duplicates, etc that can be safely deleted, but also not sure how to do that on a mac? So there's this issue, and also the first paragraph, e.g., that it seems to me that somehow the space available allocation isn't being properly shown - is there some way I can check that, find out what is using up the space?

  • Something is using up all my hard drive space?

Something is using up all my hard drive space and is under 'other' on about this mac..
When I use omi disk sweeper or grand perspective they don't show anything up as using 420GB lol.. So yeah any idea how I can find these hidden files?!
    Thanks

ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • User account available hard drive space

I have multiple computers in an office of 20+ that are used for rotating student interns. I have a user account set up for each student, 2 on any one machine. The issue is that an individual user only has roughly 8.5 gb available for hard drive space. The computer has an 80 gb hard drive. I do not want to limit the amount of space a user can have.
Is there an eay way to not have a limitation set for each user.
    Thank You in advance

    Duane,
That was my understanding as well, but for some reason there seems to be a limitation on the accounts.
Could there be any other explination?

  • My hard drive is nearly full but I cant find whats  taking up all my hard drive space

I have an intel macbook pro with 500 internal HD.
I have 160gb of music in my itues folder with another 7gb on a previous library, I am unable to find the size info of my applications folder but I susspect it to be around 50gb, however I only have 59 gb of free HD space remaining. How to I find out what is using the remainder od my hard drive space? I have not yet checked my iphoto. where would this be? Is there someway of checking to see what folders are the bigest on my hard drive?
I can's work out why my disk is so full.
    Any help greatly appreciated. :-)

  • What should the minimum available hard drive space be?

i've got a 250gb hard drive on a macbook pro (march 2009) and only 23.93gb left. how low should i let my hard drive gb go for a smooth/reliable running computer?
    thanks for the reply!

I agree with Gregory that keeping 10% of a 1TB drive free isn't necessary, but I certainly wouldn't let a 250GB drive get more than 90% full, and I wouldn't let a 30GB drive get more than 75% full, tops — not that I'll ever have a 30GB drive again.
Among other reasons to keep free space on your hard drive, any time you want to burn a CD or DVD, you need to have room on your hard drive for a disk image the same size as the capacity of the disc you're going to burn. And contrary to what Gregory has concluded from his unscientific experiment, there are many, many applications and operations that will bog down, freeze, quit unexpectedly or kernel-panic the computer if there is insufficient free hard drive space. Yes, having lots of RAM helps, but it isn't a substitute for judicious maintenance of adequate free space on one's hard drive.

  • Preview gobbling up all my hard drive space

In preview under File>Revert to>Browse All Versions I see the following
    http://puu.sh/81Nh5
the snapshots of a pdf in preview is taking WAY too much space, how do delete these old versions and how do i stop my mac from takingfrequent  snapshots of PDF documents I am editting, it is really frustrating and slowing my mac down.
Time Machine is not turned on, this seems like an automated process done by preview

    According to this document: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4753
"OS X creates a new version of a document every hour while you’re working on it. OS X saves only the information that has changed since the last version, making efficient use of space on your hard drive. OS X manages the version history of a document, keeping hourly versions for a day, daily versions for a month, and weekly versions for all previous months."
So you should only have one version for each week that you ever modified the document.
How much space is the PDF taking?

  • Why does my available hard drive space keep going down?

I am running an iMac with Snow Leopard and Lightroom 3; both the OS and program are installed on a 120GB SSD (I know the setup is a bit dated but bare with me)...
I edit about 4-10GB of RAW files every week, which are stored on a separate 2TB HDD, yet somehow, every week I keep seeing less and less available space on my main SSD drive, now down to only 6GB and I don't have much installed on that drive.
Is there a setting or something I can do to fix this?

The folder that contains your catalog and preview files and other relevant user files is still on your SSD. You can move that entire folder to your external hard drive. After you move it, simply open it in its new location and double-click on the catalog file to start Lightroom.

  • HT1338 My itunes keeps telling me i do not have enough access permissions to do anything. I had used all my hard drive space so i deleted some files. i deleted the downloads folder and a few others and this is when this problem occurred. Please help!

I tried changing the permissions and installing a new itunes but nothing is working!

Had the same thing happen to me a few weeks back when I switched computers and migrated.  Here's what worked on my iMac, so maybe it'll work on your iPad, too.  Go to User(your home folder)/Music.  Select/highlight your "Music" folder.  Then do Command-I ("Get Info" from the File menu), click on the padlock icon in the lower right of the new window.  Enter your user password.  Click on your username just above the now-open padlock.  Select "Read & Write" if it's on "Read Only," "Write Only," or "No Access."  Now having your user account with "Read & Write" privileges (it may have been this way already; still do this next step), click on the gear on the bottom-center of that window.  Click on "Apply to all enclosed items."  When the pop-up says "Are you sure?" (or the equivalent), say "yes."  This will grant access privileges to your user account for all the music files inside your music folder--all your iTunes stuff included).  Then you should be good to go.

  • What is using my hard drive space on my macbook pro

Something is using all my hard drive space and I cannot figure out what.  Yesterday I had 120GB and now I have 120MB free and got a disk warning.  I have noticed this past week that my space has been eaten up.  My Mac Book Pro is 2 months old and I have not put any big or fancy programmes on it as I am still getting used to this being my first Mac.  One of the selling points for getting a Mac is I heard its programmes took a lot less space.  My previous PC that I had for 2 years had a 130GB hard drive and I had 20GB free when I gave it away.  I cannot believe I have used all my 500GB hard drive space when I have only installed a few programmes on this one such as Notebook, Pages, and some accounting software.  I cannot seem to find details of where the space is being used.  Please help.

  • How do I find what's using my hard drive space

My wife has a 14" iBook. How do I find what's using all the hard-drive space? It only has a 40GB hard-drive (it's one of the older G3 models) but there isn't a lot loaded onto the HD. There is only 3GB space left. I've gone through every application and utility and document and every folder (document, movie, etc.) and the largest space-hogging folder is iTunes which uses 15GB because of the music. I can't find any singular folder that uses any sizeable HD space. I recently loaded Tiger so I don't know if Tiger uses the rest of the space or if it's just a combo of all the other applications.

You could download and use WhatSize to see what may be eating up the space.
With a 40 GB hard drive, you need to keep at least 6 GB free in order to avoid problems.

  • Memory and hard drive space.

    Hi,
i was wandering how i can find out how much memory im using, and how much hard drive i have left, or have used. Because im thinking of buying two more movies from itunes, but i dont want to make my macbook slow or anything like that.

    Hey,
Theres numerous ways to find out how much Hard Drive space you have. A more in-depth look at your HD can be found by accessing Activity Monitor and then Clicking on Disk Usage. You can also see how much RAM you have available by looking at the System Memory panel. You can also see how much available Hard Drive space you have by opening Finder and the amount you have Free will be at the bottom of the window. Another way to show info is to use your Desktop to show how much total space your Hard Drive has and how much you've used by Right Clicking the Desktop> Click on Show Item Info> and then under Macintosh HD it should display the info.

  • How do I delete Photo Stream photos that are taking up hard drive space in my Masters folder, but not actually appearing in any event, or on the interface at all?

A couple months ago, I activated photo stream using my apple ID. I was under the impression that all the photos uploaded to my photo stream would only use server space on icloud and wouldn't actually utilize disk space, or at the most, the option was available to only download specific photos to my hard drive. My hope was that I could upload the photos to a specific drive, and view the uploaded thumbs or low-res comps on any device as a reference.
    This is not the case.
What I have found is that iphoto has been automatically downloading any and all photos uploaded to my photo stream. Not just the thumbnails, the entire thumbnail + all resolutions. I shoot RAW photos so in my case, the original averages about 15-25MB per photo.
I have been uploading directly to an iphoto library on an external hard drive specifically designated for handling all my RAW high-res images.
What has been happening is all those RAW files are also being uploaded directly to my iphoto library on my iMac and eating up memory which I cannot reclaim, even after deactivating my Photo Stream in preferences. We're talking almost 100 GB of memory is tied up right now.
I don't want to just go in and start deleting files and folders in my Masters folder, since I have heard this will break iphoto, but the photos in my photostream do not show up in any event and I need to reclaim the hard drive space.
How can I safely delete them?

If the files are loose inside the iPhoto library package here's one way to get them out:
1 - open your library, select all of the photos in the library and add a unique keyword, XXXX,  to all of them.
2 - Rebuild the library with  iPhoto Library Manager  as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
3 - open the library, create a smart album with the criterial "Keyword is not XXXX".
4 - the smart album will include those photos that were not visible in your original library. Select them and use the key combination of Command+Option+Delete to move them to the iPhoto Trash bin.
5 - empty the iPhoto Trash bin via the iPhoto ➙ Empty iPhoto Trash Bin menu option.
6 - empty the Trash bin in the Dock to remove the files from your hard drive completely.
Be sure to read Note 1 above.  You can use the new library without your books, slideshow, etc. and it will not  contain those errant files.  Of course delete the original library if the new one is satisfactory.
