Un-minimising a Safari Window from the Dock

Using the Safari 4 Public beta with a Wacom, the window ends up minimising as I attempt to change tabs.* Is there a shortcut to un-minimise windows from the dock. ie rather than travelling over and pulling it out of the dock?
<text>
 * Background explaination
If you don't use Wacom you probably will not get it, but slight movement in the pen (which is more free to move than mouse) causes the mouseDown event to be a move rather than a click. So you click again rather quickly, and then before you can say "That's the tenth time today..." the window is minimised.

  • Why can't I open a window from the dock when Firefox is running?

When I start Firefox, all is well. However, when I close the first window, the Menu Bar items (FILE, EDIT etc. disappear. The word Firefox is still visible as are all the other Mac icons on the right end of the bar.
Clicking on the Firefox icon on the dock while Firefox is running does not open a new window whether in Firefox or in Finder, but clicking on a HTML icon on the desktop will open a new window and go to the site.
The Menu items may or may not appear, but the drop down menus are still active.
I just looks like the Menu headings (FILE EDIT etc) are invisible. I reiterate that Firefox is open and still active (the name is at the left end of the Menu Bar).
I have reinstalled the most recent version of Firefox. Running 10.7.5 Firefox 26.
It is irritating to have to Quit and re-open Firefox every time a want a new window after closing the previous.

Try to remove the Firefox plist file (org.mozilla.firefox.plist).

Turn that off, quit (or force quit) Safari then relaunch to test.

  • Opening mail application from the dock sometimes doesn't open window.

In Mountain Lion, sometimes when I open Mail on the dock with a single left mouse (or touchpad) click, the Mail application opens, as shown in the menu bar, but a mail window doesn't open. I must then click or double click on it to get it to open a window. No other application in the dock behaves this way. How can I fix this?

Is there a problem with mail opening from the dock?
NOPE!  Do you have open at login enabled?  Is Mail listed in Login Items through System Preferences?

I have multiple iPhoto libraries on my Macbook Air 10.7.5 and when I am selecting which library to view (hold down 'option' key and launch iPhoto from the dock) it automatically closes another open application window eg. Chome, Word. 1 app closes every time I launch iPhoto this way.

If you're pushing Option at the exact moment you're clicking the Dock icon, it's supposed to do that. Wait until just after clicking it.

  • Safari/internet launcher icon deleted from the dock and now missing

I am new to the Mac so there is probably an easy solution I just haven't discovered yet, but when playing with my preferences yesterday, I switched the dock to the left side and mistakenly deleted the internet launcher icon (the springboard-like icon with the @ symbol) but couldn't figure out what was gone and then emptied my trash later in the day. It doesn't help that I don't know exactly what the shortcut/launching icon was called, but I can't find it anywhere in Applications or through Safari. Now, in order to go on line I have to pull up Safari and then go from there.
Any idea how to restore the launching icon since it appears to have been wiped from the harddrive?

Hi vin, welcome to the Mac world.
The little icon that looks like @ on a spring is nothing but a web location. If you click on it and your browser isn't running it will launch your browser and then open the web page it references. I believe the original was a link to Apple. If you want it back just click on the wee little icon at the start of a URL in your browser address space and hold that click while you drag it to the Trash side of the Dock.
You can add and substract anything you want to the Dock--just drag whatever it is to the Dock or from the Dock. Applications go on the side of the Dock with the Finder icon, other things on the side with the Trash. Running Applications (there should be a little triangle next to the ones that are running) can't be removed while running.
I strongly suggest you get David Pogue's Missing Manual book on Tiger, you will discover many many things to help you get the most from your new Mac.

  • Mail won't open from the dock

Hi. Since upgrading to Mavericks Mail and Safari wont open from the dock. Even if the apps are open. I have to right click and select "New viewer window"
The net result is I end up with several open windows, but even if I click "bring all to front" nothing happens.

Hi, I tried that before, did not work.
Found this on another page. Problem solved.
Great news, in that case this is user a specific issue which we should be able to resolve by moving one plist.
*Note read the instructions carefully and ask quesitons if you don't understand something.
First > Create a folder on your desktop so we can backup the plist that we removing that was it can be put back if anything...  Call it Dock Plist
Second > Open a Finder windows > up on the menu bar click on "Go" > Hold the option key on your keyboard and you should see Library come up click on it... This will place you inside your user specific Library folder aka ~/Library...
Third > Go into Preferences folder > locate a file called com.apple.dock.plist and drap/drop into the folder you created on the desktop
Fourth > Click on the Apple (top left) > Logout...  Log back and test it.  The system automatically creates a new com.apple.dock.plist with no settings so your dock will go back to default, test mail and see if that resolves the issue.

However, when i hold on the iMovie icon, the window pops up. But when i try to click on the window, it disappears again!
It's so frustrating, does anyone know what the problem is?
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thank you!!

    Hi,
Not sure what your issue is, but try this...
Quit iMovie... Remove the iMovie Icon from the Dock...
( You do this by Holding Down Command and dragging the Icon from the Dock...)
Go to your Applications Folder and Drag iMovie back to the Dock.
    Try it Now...
Also it is never a good idea to post your email address on a public forum. I will ask the Hosts to remove it for you...
    Cheers.

I cannot log onto the App Store, the page appears when I call it from the dock or the Apple menu and I can call the log-in box from the menu bar, but on signing in the spinning icon just keeps spinning,(not the beachball).  Using 10.6.7 and up-to-date on all software. Any suggestions?

Could be a third party app preventing you from being able to login.
Mac App Store: Sign in sheet does not appear, or does not accept typed text
If it's not a third party issue, follow the instructions here.
Quit the MAS if it's open.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Caches folder.
Move the com.apple.appstore and the com.apple.storeagent files from the Caches folder to the Trash
From the same Library folder open the Preferences folder.
Move these files Preferences folder to the Trash: com.apple.appstore.plist and com.apple.storeagent.plist
Same Library folder open the Cookies folder. Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch the MAS.

  • How to delete a Safari bookmark in the Dock?

    Hi all,
Sometime over the course of the past day or so, either I or a family member visited a website that apparently put a Safari bookmark in my dock. At least that's what it looks like. I actually haven't clicked on it, since I didn't put it there.
The problem is, I can't figure out how to remove it. When I option-click on it, there's no option for removing it from the dock, like there is whenever I option-click one of the other icons.
Here's a screenshot of the icon. It's the little Safari icon next to the trash can.
And here's another that shows it's label:
Not sure how it got there. All I know is that when I opened up Safari this evening, a little movement -- like something moved to the download folder in the dock -- caught my eye, and when I looked down to the bottom right of the screen, I saw this icon in the dock. I didn't dare click on it, since I don't know if it's actually an app or something that shouldn't be on the computer. It doesn't appear that anything got downloaded. At least nothing new is in the download folder.
How do I get rid of this bookmark? As the graphic above shows, there's no option for "delete," and dragging it away from the dock doesn't work.

Try holding down the command key while clicking and hold it. Pull it away from the Dock until you see a puff of smoke.

  • Can't remove items from the dock

    Hey,
i'm having this problem for quite some time, and it's starting to annoy me.
When i try to remove something from my dock, lets say safari, for example, the dock auto reloads and the safari icon appears again. I tried to remove it dragging it out of the dock, using the "Remove from dock" right-click option and dragging it to the trash. It always reloads the dock automatically.
I joke around with the dock appearance a while back, but dont know what i did wrong to create this issue.
    Anyone knows what's going on?
    Thanks in advance
    Sergio

I dont think so, but i'll sure look into that. I'll post back if i find anything. Thanks
Edit: After looking for some dock locking programs, i noticed that this programs lock the dock, not allowing to insert new items on it. As i can insert new things there i assume its not one. I've also searched for some programs like transparentDock and such, but nothing showed up so i guess thats not the problem.

If you can't get dragging to work, just click on Safari from your Applications folder, and it should appear in the dock. Then you can right-click on the icon and PIN it permanently there.
