Un-modified folders with changed modification dates

I have several folders that I have not touched for months, and suddenly, they all have the same modification date & time. The files inside the folders have the correct dates on them (some are two years old).
This seems to be happening with only one folder, which itself is in the Documents folder. There is an alias to it on the sidebar. Inside that folder, just today, 53 folders all changed their modification dates with out me even looking at them!
This is highly annoying, as it is a folder in which I store jobs that I have completed. Any solutions?

This was the result of a syncing application, not Mac OS. Removed application, problem solved.

  • Can I populate a text field in one PDF with the modification date of a different file ?

    Rather convoluted problem here but I'm trying to place a text field on a PDF document that serves as the main menu page for a library of interlinked PDF documents
    The complete library contains over 7,000 files and additions are added and documents changed almost daily.
    We currently use batch files to open the main menu from it's shortcut and this runs a check on a sync log file (.txt) to ascertain when the last time the user synchronised with the server to get the latest copy of the files.
    Between a certain time range they are told how long it has been since they sync'ed and are offered the option to sync before opening, after a prescribed timeframe they cannot enter without synchronising. We use Allways Sync to conduct the file synchronisation with our mother files on our server.
    What I'd like to do is take advantage of Allways Syncs automatic synchronisation options to synchronise on log on and at prescribed idle periods there after.
    This works fine but I'd like the text field on the main menu PDF to say when the last synchronisation took place - easy if the main menu is the last file modified .. just use info.modDate.
    However, the main menu is rarely modified therefore I wish to import the text to populate the text field from a different file.. either by interrogating the other files modifictaion data (though I doubt Acrobat can do this) or by simply importing some text stored in another file (a .txt file?) which has previously been created by batch file commands.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    (Norfolk, England)
    P.S.  I'm using Acrobat 8.3.1. Professional on Windows XP (SP3).

    Thank you for all your help above.
    Just to confirm your advice, am I right with the following conclusions? :
    1. The script (function) to fill the text field with the modification date of a different PDF file needs to be stored in a folder level .js file.
    2. The document containing the text field needs to call the .js function either within the document script or within the custom script property of the text field itself.
    Further to that can you just advise on the syntax for accessing the modification date of the other document.
    Do I need to assign a variable to the address of the file to be used, and then use this variable in the text form filling script (as below) or can I use a direct file reference at the .modDate command.
    var LastSync = "C:\sync\bin\lastsync.pdf";
    var strMsg = util.printd("h:MM tt",LastSync.modDate) + " on ";
    strMsg += util.printd("dddd, d mmmm, yyyy",LastSync.modDate);
    this.getField("LastSyncDate").value = strMsg;
    If the syntax is totally different to the above I would be very grateful for some guidance in the right direction.
    I much appreciate your time to help me ... I'm almost there.
    Kind Regards,

  • Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)

    Fresh installation of Exchange Server 2013 on Windows Server 2012.
    Our first test account cannot access their email via Outlook but can access fine through OWA. The following message appears - "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize
    your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)" is displayed.
    If I turn off cached Exchange mode, setting the email account to not
    cache does not resolve the issue and i get a new error message - "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file (path\profile name).ost is not an Outlook data file (.ost). Very odd since it creates its own .ost file when you run it for the first
    time.
    I cleared the appdata local Outlook folder and I tested on a new laptop that has never connected to Outlook, same error message on any system.
    Microsoft Exchange RPC Client Access service is running.
    No warning, error or critical messages in the eventlog, it's like the healthiest server alive.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. I haven't encountered this issue with previous versions of Exchange.

    So it looks like a lot of people are having this issue and seeing how Exchange 2013 is still new (relatively to the world) there isn't much data around to answer this. I've spend ALOT of time trying to figure this out.
    Here is the answer. :) - No I don't know all but I'm going to try to give you the most reasonable answer to this issue, in a most logical way.
    First thing I did when I was troubleshooting this issue is that I ignored Martina Miskovic's suggestion for Step4 http://technet.microsoft.com/library/jj218640(EXCHG.150)because it didn't make sense to me because I was trying to connect
    Outlook not outside the LAN but actually inside. However, Martina's suggestion does fix the issue if it's applied in the correct context.
    This is where the plot thickens (it's stew). She failed to mention that things like SSL (which I configure practically useless - anyone who ever worked in a business environment where the owner pretty much trusts anyone in the company, otherwise they don't
    work there - very good business practice in my eyes btw, can confirm that...) are some sort of fetish with Microsoft lately. Exchange 2013 was no exception.
    In exchange 2003, exchange 2007 and exchange 2010 - you could install it and then go to outlook and set it up. And when outlook manual Microsoft Exchange profile would ask you for server name, you would give it and give the name of the person who you setting
    up - as long as machine is on the domain, not much more is needed. IT JUST WORKS! :) What a concept, if the person already on premises of the business - GIVE HIM ACCESS. I guess that was too logical for Microsoft. Now if you're off premises you can use things
    like OutlookAnywhere - which I might add had their place under that scenario.
    In Exchange 2013, the world changed. Ofcourse Microsoft doesn't feel like telling it in a plain english to people - I'm sure there is an article somewhere but I didn't find it. Exchange 2013 does not support direct configuration of Outlook like all of it's
    previous versions. Did you jaw drop? Mine did when I realized it. So now when you are asked for your server name in manual outlook set up and you give it Exchange2013.yourdomain.local - it says cannot connect to it. This happens because ALL - INTERNAL AND
    EXTERNAL connection are now handled via OutlookAnywhere. You can't even disable that feature and have it function the reasonable way.
    So now the question still remains - how do you configure outlook. Well under server properties there is this nice section called Outlook anywhere. You have a chance to configure it's External and Internal address. This is another thing that should be logical
    but it didn't work that way for me. When I configured the external address different from the internal - it didn't work. So I strongly suggest you get it working with the same internal address first and then ponder how you want to make it work for the outside
    users.
    Now that you have this set up you have to go to virtual directories and configure the external and internal address there - this is actually what the Step 4 that Martina was refering to has you do.
    Both external and internal address are now the same and you think you can configure your outlook manually - think again. One of the most lovely features of Outlook Anywhere, and the reason why I had never used it in the past is that it requires a TRUSTED
    certificate.
    See so it's not that exchange 2013 requires a trusted certificate - it's that exchange 2013 lacks the feature that was there since Windows 2000 and Exchange 5.5.
    So it's time for you to install an Active Direction Certificate Authority. Refer to this wonderful article for exact steps - http://careexchange.in/how-to-install-certificate-authority-on-windows-server-2012/
    Now even after you do that - it won't work because you have to add the base private key certificate, which you can download now from your internal certsrv site, to Default Domain Policy (AND yes some people claim NEVER mess with the Default Domain Policy,
    always make an addition one... it's up to you - I don't see direct harm if you know what you want to accomplish) see this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738131%28v=ws.10%29.aspx if you want to know exact steps.
    This is the moment of ZEN! :) Do you feel the excitement? After all it is your first time. Before we get too excited lets first request and then install the certificate to actual Exchange via the gui and assign it to all the services you can (IIS, SMTP and
    there is a 3rd - I forgot, but you get the idea).
    Now go to your client machine where you have the outlook open, browse to your exchange server via https://exchang2013/ in IE and if you don't get any certificate errors - it's good. If you do run on hte client and the server: gpupdate /force This will refresh
    the policy. Don't try to manually install the certificate from Exchange's website on the client. If you wanna do something manually to it to the base certificate from the private key but if you added it to the domain policy you shouldn't have to do it.
    Basically the idea is to make sure you have CA and that CA allows you to browse to exchange and you get no cert error and you can look at the cert and see that's from a domain CA.
    NOW, you can configure your outlook. EASY grasshoppa - not the manual way. WHY? Cause the automatic way will now work. :) Let it discover that exachange and populate it all - and tell you I'm happy! :)
    Open Outlook - BOOM! It works... Was it as good for you as it was for me?
    You may ask, why can't I just configure it by manual - you CAN. It's just a nightmare. Go ahead and open the settings of the account that got auto configed... How do you like that server name? It should read something like [email protected]
    and if you go to advanced and then connection tab - you'll see Outlook Anywhere is checked as well. Look at the settings - there is the name of the server, FQDN I might add. It's there in 2 places and one has that Mtdd-something:Exchange2013.yourdomain.local.
    So what is that GUID in the server name and where does it come from. It's the identity of the user's mailbox so for every user that setting will be different but you can figure it out via the console on the Exchange server itself - if you wish.
    Also a note, if your SSL certs have any trouble - it will just act like outlook can't connect to the exchange server even though it just declines the connection cause the cert/cert authority is not trusted.
    So in short Outlook Anywhere is EVERYWHERE! And it has barely any gui or config and you just supposed to magically know that kind of generic error messages mean what... Server names are now GUIDs of the [email protected] - THAT MAKES PERFECT
    SENSE MICROSOFT! ...and you have to manage certs... and the only place where you gonna find the name of the server is inside the d*** Outlook Anywhere settings in the config tab, un it's own config button - CAN WE PUT THE CONFIG ANY FURTHER!
    Frustrating beyond reason - that should be Exchange's new slogan...
    Hope this will help people in the future and won't get delete because it's bad PR for Microsoft.
    PS
    ALSO if you want to pick a fight with me about how SSL is more secure... I don't wanna hear it - go somewhere else...

  • Lightroom export - original file with Lightroom modification data

    Hello, hello!
    I have imported a folder of, for arguments sake, some JPEGs, TIFFS, and DND photos into Lightroom, leaving the files in place, and just linking them to the Lightroom Catalogue's Library. I have then made a whole load of 'modifications' to the photos in Lightroom (the data for these modifications is stored in the Lightroom Catalogue file, right?).
    Can I now export some of the photos from Lightroom so that the file that comes out is in the same/different file format (e.g. JPEG/TIFF/DNG) and have the Lightroom modification data embedded (perhaps in the EXIF data) of the exported file? Can I then open this with a 'normal' program and have it show the original? Can I then open this with Lightroom/Photoshop (?) and it show the original with the modification data applied?
    Thanks a lot! :-))

    Can I now export some of the photos from Lightroom so that the file that comes out is in the same/different file format (e.g. JPEG/TIFF/DNG) and have the Lightroom modification data embedded (perhaps in the EXIF data) of the exported file?
    Yes, but you should not export. Just hit Ctrl/Cmd+S to Save Metadata. the metadata will be embedded into the files. Note that the actual image will not be altered. That is, if you view the jpeg in an external viewer you will not see the adjustments made in Lightroom. Only Adobe products can interpred those.
    Can I then open this with a 'normal' program and have it show the original?
    Yes.
    Can I then open this with Lightroom/Photoshop (?) and it show the original with the modification data applied?
    Yes. When you open in Photoshop and it's a non-RAW file (e.g. JPEG or TIFF), there's an option somewhere in Camera RAW to be used for opening non-RAWs. The point is, those have to pass through Camera RAW, rather than opened directly in Photoshop, for metadata to be interpreted properly.

  • Any idea why Mavericks is changing modification dates on my folders?

    My download folder is on an external HD and for the past week or so, I noticed that Mavericks has been changing the modification dates of some folders (only folders, not files) so that older folders will come up on top when sorted by dates. It just happened a minute ago, I downloaded a file and a few second after, I heard the ticking sound of data being written on the HD. I opened the download folder and sure enough, there was five folders that were on top of the file I had downloaded. I never got this with any previous versions of OSX. This is really annoying since I usually use the modification date view to find files that I've recently dowloaded.

    Same here - I've just reported that to Apple at https://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
    It's fair to call it a bug I think. Opening a folder changes the modification dates of some, but not all, the folders enclosed.
    Plays havoc with organising time series (backups, things one has just worked on, etc.).
    There are two other discussions on this subject, but neither has received any attention, so I've responded to all three.

  • Compensation with changing payment date

    Our customer has to close a lot of incoming invoices through Compensation process (close in the same time some incoming and some outgoing invoices of the same party). We plan to solve that through payment batch: the invoices will be selected and the batch will wait (will not be confirmed) till partner confirm compensation. But, very often, in the moment of confirmation, payment date has to be changed because it has been agreed differently with Partner Company.
    EBS doesn't allow changing payment date in a payment batch.
    May we create a procedure (concurrent request) to change payment date in a not confirmed payment batch? (Payment date is CHECK_DATE in AP_INV_SELECTION_CRITERIA_ALL). We know that we have to update also PAYMENT_DATE in AP_SELECTED_INVOICE_CHECKS_ALL.
    Is there anything else what we have to change together with previously mentioned?
    The procedure will be applicable only for payments in functional currency.

    hi frane,
    we cannot manipulate the data in apps tables other than interface tables provided by EBS.
    if the payment date is not the value date for bank, then you can leave it as it is. if it is so important, modify your payment format program to change the date while creating the bank payment file for banker. as far as payment date on the unconfirmed batch it will stay the same and should not make any difference as long as the confirmation of the payment batch is not crossing the payable period.
    thanks,

  • Why does this script changes modification date???

    Hello All,
    I am using this script with an Acrobutton to advise my users of the current PDF version.
    var stmDoc = Collab.documentToStream(this)
    var strDoc = util.stringFromStream(stmDoc);
    var strVer = strDoc.substr(5,3)
    app.alert({cMsg: "The PDF version is: " + strVer, nIcon: 3, nType: 0, cTitle: "PDF Version Check"});
    Problem is that when closing the document, even though not prompted, the file is saved (assumed, since the modification date changes).
    Is there anything about this script that is doing this?

    I added a "this.dirty = false;" to the end, but it does not do as I had hoped. The pdf does not prompt for a save, which is what I understand the dirty flag to be effecting. The modification date changes anyway. Am I not using the dirty flag correctly? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Old folders showing recent modification dates

    I have several folders that I +have not touched for months+, and suddenly, they all have the same modification date & time. The files inside the folders have the correct dates on them (some are two years old). What gives? The only thing I can think of is that the dates are the same as a scheduled backup I do every week, but they've only been changed on a handful of folders inside the folder that I back up. And the backing up doesn't usually change the modification dates. So I 'm stumped. And aggravated.

    I have had the same thing happen to me a few times, and not sure the cause of it. I noticed it once right after I had repaired permissions on my system disk, yet the incorrect dates were on a completely different hard drive. That may have just been a coincidence.
    If anyone has suggestions, please reply.

  • VBA:comboboxes to present same date in different formats...ADAPT WITH CHANGE IN DATE

    Hi all,
    I'm very new to VBA and excel development, so please take that into consideration as you read on.
    I'm trying to create a work form for a database that (should) collect various information in comboboxes, including the date, the weekday, and the month... Note: most of the time, the data will be inserted the day after it's been collected. So, I wanted to create
    one combobox for the date, one for the weekday, and one for the month, because I want columns for each of these in the database (If this is not necessary/efficient, please help! :) ) .
    Here's what I've got so far:
    'worksheet setup
    Dim ws As Worksheet
    Set ws = Worksheets("LookupList")
    'Date dropdown setup
    Dim cDateToday As Range
    For Each cDateToday In ws.Range("DateList")
    With Me.cboDate
    .AddItem cDateToday.Value
    End With
    Next cDateToday
    'If today is Monday, then set date to last friday, if any other weekday, set it to day before that
    If Weekday(Date - 1) <> 2 Then
    Me.cboDate.Value = Format(DateAdd("D", -Weekday(Date) - 1, Date), "Medium Date")
    Else
    Me.cboDate.Value = Format(Date - 1, "Medium Date")
    End If
    Problem #1: Right now, I am getting the date values from the list
    DateList in the worksheet LookupList...is there a better way of doing this?
    Problem #2: When the user form is run, the correct date and format shows up. However, if I change the date, the dropdown list in the combobox starts from the initial date in given list...is there anyway to bring the list closer to the current
    date? Think Calendar View
    Problem #3: I want the weekday and month values to be directly correlated to the date value discussed above, so hypothetically when the user form is run the correct date, weekday, and month all show up (based on the same date value), then if
    I change the date, the weekday and month automatically update. Is this possible, if so how?
    The reason I want this functionality is so that on a Monday, I can run the work form and it will automatically have Friday's date, weekday, month info as it opens. When I'm done with Friday, I can run it again, switch the date to the Saturday's
    date (weekday and month automatically update), then repeat for Sunday.
    I have tried running the same code for the weekday and month as I have for the date, and they work
    until the date is changed. Once the date is changed, I have to manually change the weekday, which leads to format change, and same for month, which all leads to :( and confusion
    Again, I am very new to vba and don't know much about it all and appreciate any/all help!
    Thanks in advance!
    /Alex

    I can give you a little advice but I don't understand your comment "if I change the date, the weekday and month automatically update" Where do you want them to update?
    I am assuming that your entire question is referring to a Userform with the Combobox. Is this correct?
    The code can be much simpler to populate the combobox list. You already have a named range for the Dates so you can use that directly to populate the RowSource. (RowSource if the combox is on a Userform or ListFillRange for a combobox on a worksheet).
    Then the WorksheetFunction Workday can be used to get the previous workday without weekend days. It also looks after the previous day when the actual date is mid week. Look up the function on the worksheet Help because you can also have a separate list
    of holidays that will be excluded like weekend days.
    If you are new to VBA then a tip about Help. You need to be on the worksheet and click Help to get worksheet help and in the VBA editor you click Help to call the VBA help. Don't just select Help off the taskbar when changing between the worksheet and VBA
    because you will finish up with the incorrect Help file.
    Example of code to assign a named range to the RowSource of a ComboBox. Named range needs to be Global and not scoped to a worksheet otherwise the worksheet name is also required.
        Me.cboDate.RowSource = "DateList"
    Example of code to assign the previous workday to the combobox value.
        'Following line sets value to previous workday (Mon to Friday)
        Me.cboDate.Value = WorksheetFunction.WorkDay(Date, -1)
    Then there is another problem with ComboBoxes and dates. If the Dates are real dates on the worksheet (Not Text)  then the dropdown list displays in the same format as the worksheet but when the date is selected, it displays as a serial number. This
    can also be rectified with code but first I need to know what the format of the data is on the worksheet.
    Can you upload a copy of your workbook because it is like a picture is worth a thousand words. Same goes for having a copy of the workbook. If it has sensitive data then create a copy and remove the sensitive data.
    Regards, OssieMac

  • You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with your current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your outlook data file (.ost).... OWA works but outlook 2013 does not, exchange server 2013 on Server standard 2012

    I have read a lot of articles and tried a lot of things, but I cannot get outlook to connect to my exchange server. This is a test environment, I have tried making my own certificate and signing it through my own CA to no avail. I have completely disabled
    windows firewall and stopped the service. I can ping between the two just fine by name or IP. I've tried not using cached mode, creating new profiles in outlook etc. I tried setting my CertPrincipalName to my FQDN in exchange powershell.
    I am not an expert with exchange at all, but I feel like this should work with little to no configuration, instead I've wasted days on this. Half of the articles I've read don't seem to have solutions, and the other half have solutions that are not working
    for me.
    I can access OWA and send emails on a client computer through OWA with no problems.
    I am running a test domain on the same network as my current exchange 2003/sbs 2003 active environment, I don't know why this would be an issue, but if it is I cannot figure out why. The only thing I can see holding me back right now is not having a signed
    certificate from digicert etc, and an official internet domain set up, but I don't think either of those things matter in my situation.
    Any help is greatly appreciated and I'll gladly provide any other information requested to solve this issue, thank you.

  • Applet error with changing variable data after several runs....

    Can anyone give some advice on the following:
    I have a java card program running on a gsm sim:
    The program makes use of member variables which
    contain data that is reused and rewritten all the time.
    The member variables are all declared as (for example)
    private byte[] myVariable = {(byte) ' ',(byte) ' '};
    And the values stored in the variables are changed
    everytime the program gets an event. This works fine

    can't execute any code that accesses these variables (the
    other parts that simply display a message or the menu and that
    never change their variable's value have no problem running on).
    Does anyone know a specific reason for this ? Should I rather
    use my own EF entries on the SIM to keep data ? Is there any
    specific rules around using variables and reusing them ?
    The only fix (once this occurs) seems to be to reload the applet
    onto the card...resetting the phone etc. does not change this
    behaviour....
    Any help would be much appreciated...

    I don't think that your problem lies in your private member variable.
    From my point of view it is more likely that you some kind of memory allocation problem somewhere.
    Anyway it is always a good idea to post a minimal applet which reproduces the erroneous behaviour.

  • Trigger PAI without an OK_CODE and only with change of data

    I have a handheld which does not return the OK_CODE when you press enter. Is there any way to trigger PAI without any OK_CODE?
    I have tried FIELD VAR-VLPLA MODULE M0200_ON_CHANGE ON INPUT.

    There is a way to do what you want....try adding the following to the end of your POV module...(works like magic for me).
    *  Trigger the PAI immediately to get the VAT rate / amoount
    *  for the VAT code.
       ok_code = 'XXXX'.

  • Modification Date changes when updating Open With?!?!

    Forgive me if this is mentioned elsewhere. I have been searching these forums and not seen this problem.
    If I do a 'Get Info' on a file in the Finder and change the application it opens with, the Modification Date changes to 'now'. Why in the world would this happen? This is not how 10.3.x worked, and certainly doesn't make any sense since I am not actually modifying the file. I am simply changing the OS's metadata about which app to use. This info isn't even stored in the file itself, as evidenced by burning such an document to a CD or moving it through a network server then opening it on a machine with different default apps for certain extensions.
    Is this just another wacky step backwards in the world of the Apple OS X Finder, or am I missing a way to avoid this?
    PowerMac G5 2.5DP   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    This is not how 10.3.x worked, and certainly doesn't make any sense since I am not actually modifying the file.
    Actually, I am using "Panther" now, and can confirm that changing the application to be used to open an individual file through "Get Info" does in fact change the modification date.
    When the "Change all" button is used, the modification date of other files of that type won't be affected by this change since that modification is presumably made somewhere in the "Launch Services" database to set the "default" application to be used for that file type. Perhaps this is what you were thinking of.
    However, for that first file (or any file changed individually), the file is in fact modified, and the "Open with" information is stored with the file, in its "resource fork". Usually, a 'usro' resource (specifying the application) and an 'icns' resource (for the app's custom icon for that file type) are added. You can try this yourself - drag any image from Safari.app to the "Desktop" and open the info window for that image - such images usually don't have a "resource fork". Make note of the file's size, then change the "Open with" application. You should immediately see an increase in the file's size (to account for the addition of the "resource fork") accompanied by an update of the file's modification date to reflect this modification.

  • Folder modification dates spontaneously changing

    I discovered that a limited batch of folders on several different hard drives had all taken on the same modification date, which was several days ago. It is truly maddening because I keep the contents of may enclosing folders sorted by modification date for critical reasons, and now these spontaneously changed folders are far out of order.
    To make it more maddening, I'm using a program designed to allow changing of the modification dates, which has been working fine on most of them, to change the dates to the same as the latest date of a folder's enclosed contents, but one of them keeps changing it's modification date to right now if I merely twirl down its "carrot" or viewing arrow in list view!
    I've been doing this a long time and have never encountered anything quite as mysterious or frustrating. Does anybody have any idea what could have caused this?
    LATE NOTE: I had downloaded and run the Onyx program to fix an issue that OpenPGP had with contextual menus not showing up. Their page recommended running the Automation pane of  Onyx as the solution. I just found out that I ran that on the same date as the folder modification date changes. Could it be the culprit, and if so, how and why?

    Thanks, Eric. I still don't understand why, though, some of those folders became something I'd never seen before: folders that would change their modification date even if the "carrot" were twirled down. It's sure bizarre behavior. And in the middle of trying to solve that, suddenly my two external hard drives became inexplicably read-only. Even though the "Info" window showed that I had read/write access, above the permissions section it said the disk was read only, and even when unlocking the permissions lock, it all was greyed out.
    I found a strange suggestion in this discussion group to use DiskUtility to do nothing but verify those drives. I did—and suddenly they were all correct in the permissions department. I swear. I've never seen anything remotely like any of this.
    I'm ready to order a custom tinfoil hat for my Mac.

  • DNG file modification date not changed by writing metadata?

    I use LR 2.7 on Windows XP.   To my surprise, I just noticed that writing metadata updates (e.g., new keywords) from LR to the DNG files does NOT appear to update the file modification date, which suggests obvious issues for backup strategies (yes, I understand that a changed modification date introduces other backup issues).   I have verfifed that the metatdata does indeed change in the DNG files, so I am mystified.   Can someone shed some light on this?   Thanks.

    Yes, I explicitely invoke "save metadata to file".   Furthemore, I have checked the behavior by (a) modifying DNGs in LR; (b) saving the metatdata to the DNG; (c) creating a new LR catalog and importing the revised DNGs.    The metadata changes do show up in the re-imported DNGs (and the metadata field "Metadata Date" correctly shows the recent change).  Morevover, the file sizes do change (wth the metadata changes) even though the modification dates shown in windows explorer do not change.
    However, I just redid the experiment to double check, and discovered an important clue - the mysterious behavior occurs when the DNG files are on a NAS device (in particular a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo.   To summarize:
         - When the DNG files are on a local hard drive, the file modification dates change as expected
         - When the DNG files are non local (i.e., on the network but on a NAS device), the file modification dates do not change even though the file sizes do change;
    What's more, I see the same behavior when accessing the DNGs via Adobe Bridge (CS5) - i.e., if I change the metadata, I'm asked if I want to apply the metadata changes to the DNG, and I say yes (and confirm by looking via Bridge at a copy of the changed file).   On a local disk, the file modificaiton dates change (as do the modification date displayed in Bridge), but if the files are on the NAS, the modification dates do not.
    Any additional thoughts?
