Un-stretch audio?

Hi
I stretched an audio file a while ago and accidentally deleted the origional file.
The action is not visible on the undo-history.
I guess the only way I have is to un-stretch the file and try to listen...
Anyone know if a way to see how much a file is stretched exist in LPX?
thanks

Actually the term "extract audio" is misleading.
It just copies the audio from the clip to a separate audio track and mutes the original track.
So to un-extract audio you just need to delete the extracted audio track and un-mute the original clip's audio.

  • Time stretch audio file to match tempo of track

Hi everyone, I am a new user of Logic express, and have found the info on this site extremely helpful, in conjunction with SFlogicninja's tutorials on youtube.
However, after watching a recent tutorial on Time stretching audio, i am now completely confused. Similar to the tutorial, i am trying to fit an audio region(an acapella track) to the tempo of the project. I have beat mapped the region to establish a tempo, but would like to experiment with slowing down or speeding up the track as a whole. As the acapella was created outside of Logic, i am bouncing the acapella track in order to be able to 'follow tempo'(as shown in the inspector). I have disabled the 'normalize' checkbox and bounced, but the bounced track still does not have the 'follow tempo' option in the inspector.
Any ideas as to why my bounced files cannot follow tempo. I can do it with audio that i create in Logic, but if i import any files, i was under the impression that by bouncing it within Logic, i could still obtain the same results?
I'm running out of hair to pull out!

Then I'll have to give it a try.
    Hi
    Seems to work OK here

Did I understand correctly that just by ""renaming"" Logic 9.1.6 inside the application folder it will keep it functioning in case I wanna revert to it later??
Yep (but you will probably still need one called "Logic Pro" to get Software Update to see it)
I have mine setup to quickly switch from 32bit to 64 bit (2 copies with different names) and also previous versions.... works fine

  • Get rid of the warnings prior to stretching audio in Arrange

Does anyone know how to get rid of the warnings prior to stretching audio in Arrange?
In the demonstration here on Apples own website, workflow is sped up by the fact that you don't have to hit ok twice before the edit is executed. I have tried to disable warnings etc, but it still does it.
    http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/logicpro/
Incidently, I clearing popup warnings using the V-Pots on the Mackie Control doesn't work anymore either. Can anyone confirm this?
This appears to be yet another newly introduced controller bug... Don't even get me started on trying to use a Frontier Tranzport with version 8.

No, the inly option is to uncheck 'Warning before processing function by key command', which doesn't change the situation.
    Have you actually done this?

  • Burn Audio CD and Time Stretching audio - software on the iMac?

I have a new iMac 24 running OSX 10.4.9 and had two questions:
    1) Is there software on the iMac for buring an Audio CD? Created a song and I am trying to figure this one out.
    2) Is Garageband able to time-stretch a song? I need to edit some performance songs that need to end at a specific time. I use Sonar on my PC to do this but wondered if Garageband or another utility on my iMac could handle this.
    Thanks!

    1) iTunes will do that (not GB). Just create a playlist and click "Burn Audio CD". (That's the default setting.)
    2) GarageBand can do that, but you'll have to play around a lot to achieve it. I'd recommend an audio editor like Audacity or SoundStudio - there you can change the tempo of a song (without affecting the pitch), and it will tell you immediately how long the result will be.

  • Stretching audio in FCE

I have a video file of a brass band performance that I have put into FCE. However the audio quality is not the best, and want to replace it with a separately recorded audio file of the same band playing the same music. I have dropped the new audio in place, and sync'd its start with the video and old audio.
The problem is that this audio recording is approximately five seconds shorter, start to finish, than the same track on the video. What I want to do is stretch the new audio track by those five seconds to make the track lengths identical. There does not seem to be a way to do this in FCE, but I also have Audacity, Amadeus and a couple of other audio processing programs, and what I read says time stretching can be done in Audacity. However, I cannot figure out how to do it, and the "manual" is no help.
Does anyone have a procedure for doing this that they would like to share (in some detail, please!)?

There is also Amazing Slow Downer" which can slow a piece of audio without altering the pitch.

  • Rate Stretch audio goes out of sync when exported.

Audio, which is rate stretched using the rate stretch tool to 100.01%, plays fine in Premiere Pro CS6. However, when exported to Encore or to MPEG-2 file, the audio is no longer stretched and becomes out of sync by the end of the video. When I play the preview in Encore, the audio is out of sync. Switch back to Premiere, it is OK. Export a MPEG-2 file and author a DVD, the audio is out of sync. Go back to Premiere, it is OK. I record the audio using a TASCAM portable recorder. I have recorded and synched audio many times and this is the first time that it does not work, on two separate Premiere projects. Any ideas on how to fix this. Even better, is there a way to record audio so that it matches the video (from a Panasonic HD AVCHD camcorder) without requiring rate stretch adjustment?

Try changing the speed with right click, Speed/Duration instead of using the Rate Stretch tool.

  • Time Stretch Audio in FCP?

I've got a sound I'd like to time stretch on a simple project. I'd rather not have to do anything in STP since this is the only sound I need it for--is there a way to stretch in FCP?

    Hello Mr. Wolsky,
I have read many of your extremely well informed posts on this site and greatly respect your opinion. I am wondering, however, if you are perhaps mistaken in stating that one cannot pitch shift in FCP.
I invite you to go to the Apple Sound Effects Plugins folder and take a look at "AUPitch". I have used it often for making Foley sound effects that I either can't be bothered to search out - for instance a huge metal clanging door I pitch shifted up a few octaves and it became a briefcase lock springing open.
I think people just don't look in that folder because it looks kinda boring.
Here is an extract from an article on Ken Stone about the Apple audio filters.
    Hope this helps.
    Harry.
    AUPitch
+Adjusts the pitch of your audio, obviously. There are a LOT of controls though, and I have to admit that I don't have a clue what a Glb Trigger Thresh or a Loud Aggr K is. Effect blend blends the pitch-shifted audio with the original and is sometimes necessary to make voices sound natural. It is worth mentioning that I've gotten perfectly acceptable results by adjusting the first two parameters and not bothering with any of the others. I'd imagine that most people wouldn't have to adjust more than these.+
+I tried a Google search on some of these parameters but they only turned up forum threads where people were asking what on Earth they meant and no-one was able to solve their problem. If anyone does know, I'd be interested to hear from them.+
+This can be useful for making a male actor's voice more masculine (yes, I have had to do this!).+

  • Stretch audio segment

I've read that you can cut, copy, move, shorten audio segments. But it's not possible to stretch an audio segment? Let's say I've just recorded something and I want to stretch that recorded waveform so it matches the first two bars. So far I've found out that I can shorten the waveform, but that just cuts the end of it off. And I can do something called flex to stretch certain segments of the waveform. But I can't stretch the entire waveform outside the waveform length. For example: if I recorded something that lasts 2.75 notes and I want to stretch that waveform to 4 (so that it matches the first bar of a 4/4 song), that can't be done?
The other way around doesn't work either. For example: if I record something that lasts too long, for example 7.5 notes and I want to shrink that waveform so it matches the first bar of a 4/4 song, that doesn't work either. I can just shorten the waveform, which cuts a part of the end. I'd like to shrink the entire waveform or expand it when needed.
This can't be done in Garageband?

But it's not possible to stretch an audio segment?
You can, but it may not sound too good.
But I can't stretch the entire waveform outside the waveform length. For example: if I recorded something that lasts 2.75 notes and I want to stretch that waveform to 4 (so that it matches the first bar of a 4/4 song), that can't be done?
To be able to stretch or shrink, you need empty space to stretch the waveform into.
A quick&dirty work around:  Record a few beats of silence directly behind the region that you want to extend. Then select the region and the silent region at the same time and merge them into one single region: "Edit > Join Regions". This will create a new audio file, however. In this joined region you can drag and extend the note, if flex is enabled for the track.

  • Poor Results from Time Stretch

    Hi all,
So on a number of occasions, I have tried using the Time Stretch feature in Soundtrack Pro, but nearly every time I use it, I get noticeably poor results. For example, if I take a 31-second soundtrack and squeeze it to 30 seconds, the playback sounds very choppy. The same happens vice versa when I stretch audio by small amounts. I find myself having to do this function in Adobe Soundbooth instead. I really like Soundtrack Pro, but it seems that this feature is inferior. The funny thing is, I've seen tutorials online about this feature, but I've never seen the people giving the tutorials have any issues. Does anyone encounter this same issue? And, does anyone know if there's a fix for this situation?
By the way, I'm using Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1, and I'm running it on a Mac-Pro 12-core with Mac OS X 10.6.6.

I've done this all the time and always had good results... And I've been able to stretch quite a bit... My audio has always been 48K, 16 bit.

  • Change audio speed of video file

I have a video file from the internet archive and its video speed is normal however the audio track is slow.
The video runs for approx 1 hour 20 mins but the audio track has been stretched out to just over 5 hours.
I am looking for a way to pack the audio back into its normal 1 hour 20 mins space.
Is it possible to fix this in premier pro cc? I am completely new to this software but I figure it will not be that hard. I'm just finding it difficult to find this issue elsewhere online.

Normally Premiere does not stretch audio on its own.
Could be the file has some exotic codec.
Anyway unlink the audio from the video (rightclick on file in timeline) select Stretch Tool and shrink the audio.
Hope this will work for you.

  • Add audio to video

First off I am trying to add a secondary track of audio to a MP4 file and I was wondering what was the best way to go about doing that. Secondly I want to add black to the begining and end of the movie and was wondering what would do that best. The reason behind needing these two things is that me and a few friends recorded our own in-movie commentary and would like to add it into the movie. And our audio goes a little bit longer than the movie is so I would like to add the black as filler.

    Regards, BJ
Is there a way to silence the audio on the movie and just have the "extra" audio that is Added to Selection & Scaled be the only audio?
I tried doing just what you described and there is a bit of an echo, although pretty slight, it's enough to be annoying. I had thought I had gotten the start and end points for both the movie and the "extra" audio just about lined up in GarageBand.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Stretching tracks on the timeline using keyboard.

How can I stretch audio & video tracks on the timeline without scrolling at the scrollbars?
With other words is there a shortcut on the keyboard?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
If you mean, stretch or squeeze the timeline, then Stretch is APPLE , and Squeeze is APPLE . It stretches or squeezes the timeline around the position line. much easier for me.
    hope that helps,

  • Flex Time question

How do u stretch audio using Flex, like moving a small area of a wave a lil to the right or left to correct for the tempo, without it sounding scratchy at the end of the region? I tried moving it using "Rhythmic" setting, but there's some noise at the last Flex Marker.

    You can flex any audio.
The results you get will depend on a variety of factors, what the audio is, what you want to do etc, but don't be afraid to try. You'll get a handle on what you can do well and can't do well the more you use it.

you have to buy it Stash, it's not with the program it's going to be released late march as an AU from Serato, the original Pitch'n'Time was like 899 bucks now it's down to 399 (something like that), I do agree that it is crap that Logic isn't developing there own algorithms for stretching audio, Acid has it, I'm 99% sure Cubase has it (Warp Audio or something to this effect) Reason even has it thanks to it's recycle and Dr.Rex, from what I hear Abletons is wicked, and I bet Sonar has it, but logic, nope, what it has is a very very buggy set of algorithms that either damage the original audio file, or are noticeably full of artifacts, but in their love for us, the customer, they've outsourced the issue to Serato, opps I ranted, my bad, cheers,

  • MP4 to FCP6

I would like to start this project over.... I must be doing something wrong in FCP6. I have a MP4 file from a Flip Camera of an event..... which is video and audio. I also have a Audio CD with the same event recorded as AIFF. Here is the problem... when I put both into FCP6 the Audio AIFF from the CD is roughly 33% faster than the audio and video from the MP4 of the Flip camera. I want to use the video MP4 with the Audio AIFF.... but the 33 % faster speed of the audio AIFF will not match up with the slower video. How can I stretch this audio AIFF to match the video (and audio) of the MP4? ( I tried to use Soundtrack Pro to stretch audio... but was unsuccessful) I also think I may need to convert these files for FCP6?
