Unaasociating TIFF viewing with Quicktime

After installing Quicktime for Windows it automatically associated Tiff viewing in IE. I do not wish to have Quicktime handle my TIFF viewing needs. I would rather use Windows picture and fax viewer but even if I change the default association in folder settings it still opens in IE which I guess wouldn't be a problem but when I print them from IE it prints a blank page. I have turned on print background image in IE thinking tha would resolve the problem but still nothing. How can I restore the file association to Windows picture and fax viewer?

Under Images - Still Images remove the check mark for TIFF
Quit and relaunch your browser for these changes to take effect.

  • Is there something wrong with Quicktime and TIFFs?

I've been trying to see with Firefox the TIFF images of patents at the USPTO site and I can't. The browser advises me to install the missing plug-in although Quicktime is already installed. I wonder if it's a Quicktime problem or a Firefox one. I have a reason to believe there's something wrong with Quicktime though. Read on to see why.
On my system the *TIFF Image Test* (from mozdev.org) fails although I have the latest Quicktime plug-in. This happens regardless of the browser I use, all latest editions: Firefox 3.6, Internet Explorer 8 (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions) and Chrome 4. All seem to fail to recognize the presence of the installed Quicktime although my Windows OS is set to open TIF/TIFF files with Quicktime/PictureViewer.
Running about:plugins on my Firefox does show the Quicktime plug-in for a variety of files but NOT for opening embedded TIF/TIFFs. Also, when I open *Tools -> Options -> Applications* I see there is no registered handler for TIF/TIFFs. They don't appear on the known Content Types.
Is there something wrong with the installation of Quicktime? I can see USPTO TIFF images only with Safari which appears to have an integrated TIFF viewer. I haven't tried to install alternatiff or any other alternative TIFF handler.

    DocBAZ,
I tried to visit the "test site" above. I'm not really sure it's an embedded image on a HTML page because I get a Firefox download window and a suggestion to open it with PictureViewer, which is the expected behavior for downloadable images. The mozdev.org test page on the other hand had an embedded image that needed the plugin, which is what is bugging me.
If you want a real complex test page with both an embedded TIFF and a downloadable one check AlternaTIFF here: http://www.alternatiff.com/testpage.html
Indeed the changes I made were in the QuickTime preferences, not PictureViewer which has no settings to change. And yes, Windows 7 has a unique place to deal with file types and MIME settings.

H.264 video should be supported by your basic Snow Leopard operating system. The DVCPRO HD family of codecs is part of the Apple "Pro" codecs package which is normally installed as part of a "Pro" video editing suite installer or contemporaneously installed separately as part of one of the newer pro editing apps like FCPX. if you already have one of these pro suites or apps installed or available, then re-install the correct codec package that is missing. If not, you will need to purchase a Pro suite or app to be able to install the required codec package.

  • Safari, view movies with QuickTime problems

Problem with quicktime plugin in safari.
    Safari dont play movies.

Thanks for the link to the film adaptation of Pullman's 'Northern Lights' trilogy - looks promising!
Sorry, back to the problem at hand:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above (but this has not been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Can't view .mov file with quicktime

Hello. I need help viewing a .mov file with Quicktime 7.5. It was recorded on a Canon Vixia HV30 camcorder and given to me on a dvd. But when I try to view the .mov file with Quicktime, I can hear the audio but the screen is black. Sometimes, it asks me to continue to the following link:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=Windows&ctype=696d64 63&csubtype=69636f64
I'm not that computer savvy - what is wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sorry. My "then" (above) should have been "they".
They sent you a data DV containing the "source" from the camera and the HDV codec isn't available on your PC so you can't view the file.
Ask the authors to convert the file using H.264 Video codec (or others) so your Windows version of QuickTime can play the file.

  • View dvcPRO-HD with quicktime?

    Hello,
I am editing a project in dvcpro hd, I copied all of the media to a second drive as a backup.
My director wants to take that drive and view the files with quicktime on her g4 laptop.
Is it possible to view dvcpro hd quicktimes on a computer that doesn't have fcp on it?
Would it work to copy the codecs out of my quicktime library into hers?
    Thanks much for any info.

You can't view the DVCProHD files without the codecs provided with FCP... AFAIK, they are all that is required.

  • Problem viewing AVI files with quicktime plugin

I have quicktime 7.6 and perian installed
When I try to stream an AVI file I can hear sound but no video is displayed
If I download the file and I then play it with quicktime everything is fine
If I remove perian then I will be able to stream from the website but of course unable to play MKV, Divx and Xvid files
I have removed all obsolete codecs and I am running out of ideas on what is wrong with the system

In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from
    http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

  • TIFF Viewer

I can't view TIFF files, specifically at < <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.originsnetwork.com/help/popup-helpimages.htm > Sorry, can't remember how to make link clickable.
This link explains what I am trying to do. I have followed all instructions, & finally installed Accel View TIFF demo internet plug-in. Nothing I do will work with Safari. I went to QuickTime & unchecked the TIFF Viewer box, incase there was a conflict, to no evail. The plug-in will work with Internet Explorer, but it is quite expensive. Graphic Converter also will work with IE, but it is a bit of a hassle &, I want to use Safari. Any ideas most appreciated, Thanks, Colleen

    Collen,
Thanks for the reply I did look at the page you linked us to, which is for troubleshooting the plugin, just wanted to make sure I understood so the images you need to view are on this web site
Did you place the Plug in the Internet Plug-Ins folder found in HD/Library/Internet Plugins folder, then do a reboot.
    See if that helps any.
edited by: Eme additionally it seems the web site has this alernate method in viewing without the plug in, if they chose to ? by using a Java applet,

  • STILL no real answer to problems with QuickTime and Flash Player

The reply to Problems with QuickTime really didn't answer or solve the basic problem. Some sites to work at all require you to have working Flash Player 8 so when I try to use these sites I get the QuickTime logo with a question mark and then nothing. For all you experts on Apple and Mac; what is going on? Apple is the parent of QuickTime and I assume they want their customers happy with their work. So why is it so hard for these apparently small updates to their programs causing entire sites being blocked off? I have OS x 10.3.9 on a G4 iMac 855mHrz .... It seems that even though we, the customer by default become Apples program testers;the actual programers are never given the go ahead to actualy look at these problem posts. Has anyone ever gotten a solution for a problem they posted here from one of the programmers of the product? It would be nice to know we aren't left to our own devices when it comes to program gliches from the source. If the powers that be in apple are watching and willing to help; any time now is a good time to just but in on the conversation and help solve some of the problems us little people keep on running into.--------------
While online I run into sites that will NOT work without Flash Player 8 (which costs over $150.00) which is told to the viewer with a QuickTime logo with a question mark in it.
This leads the web surfer to try to upgrade or at least investigate Flash Player in their computer and it's version. When said web surfer looks at Flash player upgrade for bucks and the fact that in some way it is tied to QuickTime, web surfer gets real curious. Do the web masters for those sites know that their site is now blocked off? If any major portion ( say 30 or 40 % ) of the web surfing crowd is required to purchase an upgrade to Flash Player even though it doesn't look like Apple is the parent of said Flash Player; those web masters are going to be upset with Apple. Their income is tied to actuall access and browsing of a site, even if it is only to actually just get the Home page. With no access to the site due to no Flash Player 8, the web master is going to find those all important Hits going down to nil. -------
This post is way to broad for any one answer so I don't really expect one. But for you people who have run into similar problems with other programs and sites; I would love to hear if you got any help from other web surfers or from the parent people of those programs and/or sites. I know that my isp earthlink has helped out with problems faster than other groups involved. Anyway.. Any help or comment on this post ( or gripe if you prefer ) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry, but you are completely misinformed. Flash Player 8 doesn't cost one red cent; it's only the Flash creation package that you have to pay for. You can download the free Flash Player 8 here.
QuickTime can natively handle some Flash content, which is why with the lack of the Flash player the browser defaults to the QT plugin. But Flash 8 is a relatively new format from Macromedia and I'm not sure QT supports it yet. Install the Flash 8 player and things should work just fine.
And just FYI, for questions about the Mac version of QuickTime, you'll be better off asking them in the QuickTime for Mac forum.

  • Setting up posterframe with quicktime?

    Hello,
    I have:
    •Quicktime Pro Version 7.6.4 (518.35)
    •Dreamweaver CS4
I'm trying to set up a poster frames for my quicktimes on my site. Right now its just defaulted to the first frame which is black. I want it to preview the section of the video i want and then click play and have it start from the begining like how you can choose a thumbnail with youtube.
When I open my .mov I dragged the play header to where I wanted the poster frame to be.
I then went to view>set poster frame, and saved.
When I clicked on the .mov in the finder, the poster frame did show up in the right hand panel! But then when I opened it, it started from that frame which I don't want.
I want to be able to preview that certain section of the video, and then play from the beginning.
I then dragged the playhead to the beginning and saved. When I went to view>go to poster frame it did go back to that poster frame so it did indeed save that spot.
But - when I preview it in the finder its still black and the first frame. - And, when I preview in dreamweaver to safari, its black and the first frame.
Basically when I open the file and go view>go to posterframe it does go to it... now I just have to get it to fully work.
    What should I do?
    Thankyou

is it possible to set up a preview pic for the web with quicktime doing this poster frame technique or do i have to render out a seperate image file?

  • Can I cut & past MOV videos with QuickTime Pro ?

I have a couple of DigiCam Quicktime MOV videos which I want to cut & paste.
Is this possible with a QuickTime Pro installation (under WinXP) ?
Is there any other alternative software which let me do such simple tasks with Quicktime MOV videos?
    Peter

    Yes.
QuickTime Player Pro allows editing of nearly any format it can "play". MPEG-1 can be viewed but not edited.

  • ITunes cannot run because it detects a problem with Quicktime

When I click on the help icon I am prompted to uninstill Quicktime. The problem is, Quicktime isn't in the list of installed programs. It is visable if I go to classic view in the control panel page but I can't seem to delete it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Download the version of Quickime without iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Since you do not have Quicktime in your list of installed programs, just delete the Quicktime files it recommends, this appears in the final section: +Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled+
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Using the clean up utility, remove any reference you find to Quicktime.
    Restart your PC
    Then install the standalone Quicktime.

  • Use TIFF-Viewer (ActiveX) in ABAP-Programm

    Hy all,
I am looking for a Viewer for TIFF-documents that can be used in a ABAP-Container.
The Viewer should offer methods or parameters to get the zoom-area, that the user has selected, and to set the same zoom-area in the next document that will be opened.
I found some TIFF-Viewers (BravaX, CADViewX from Softgold ...) that work but all of them have the problem, that the wanted function with the zoom-area doesn´t work exactly.
Have anyone of you made well experience with a TIFF-Viewer in SAP?
    Thanks a lot for help.
