Open the General tab of the Safari preferences and correct the home page; the default page is this one. If it has become set to a folder on an FTP server or a local drive, that request will be sent to the Finder. (28252)

  • Unable to update apps in app  store after installing 8.1.3

I have been unable to update apps in app  store after installing 8.1.3
Is anyone else having this problem?

Yes, on iPhone, but ok on iPad. It says I have 12 Updates, but doesn't say what they are. I sync'd with iTunes on the Mac and everything is up to date there. I think if there are no Updates in iTunes, then you are up to date. It may be an issue with Notifications. I'm turning Alerts off in iPhones Notifications settings for now so I don't have to look at the number. Welp, now it says 11 Updates.

  • Unable to wake screen using magic mouse or trackpad after installing magic mouse

    Dear Everyone,
I am using mbp 15 inch early 2011 with 2 GHZ intel i7 processor and a  4gb ram. I would like to tell you that i have installed the mac os x lion and quite happy with the improvement. however, there are same changes which i am not sure whether it is that my mac that causeing theproblem or the bug from the lion itself. i am unable to wake my mbp screen using my magic mouse or trackpad after installing lion. i believe that my mbp has not really enter sleep mode as i dont see the sleep indicator at the bottom right corner flickering. i also believe that it is only the screen that goes to sleep while the hard disk is not. Normally a single swing  of the magic mouse or a single swipe of the trackpad will normally wake the screen. in order to wake the screen now is only to click on the magic mouse or trackpad. furthermore, scrolliing page using magic mouse also become unusual after installing the lion. does any of u happen to come across these problems as well? Is there any other way to downgrade to snow leopard back? (i ask this in case that this issue really cannot be fixed). Please help me on this issue. Thank you very much for taking your time to read and reply this thread.
    Moonbasher (henry)

First, Lion does not wake on mouse or trackpad movement, only clicks or keyboard presses.  This is presumably to avoid waking the computer from display or full sleep accidentally, and is just how Lion works.  It's going to take some getting used to, personally, but I've noticed my mac hasn't woken up on it's own.  Apparently moving about my apartment moves the mouse enough that Snow Leopard used to wake the iMac.  This is not a glitch, and unfortunately, a downgrade is a complicated matter, involving erasing the HD entirely, and restoring from a backup created in Snow Leopard and not used with Lion at all, or manually importing important bits of data, as libraries upgraded by new versions of Mail, iCal, etc will not be compatible with the old versions.
In terms of your mouse scrolling, describe it in a bit more detail; Lion introduces "natural" scrolling, where instead of the mouse wheel moving the "window" over the contents, it moves the contents through the window, like scrolling on an iPhone or iPad.  In other words, think of your finger on the mouse as pressing on the page you're looking at and dragging it upward through the field of view.  I remember long ago thinking my very first scrolling mouse was backwards, and then adjusting to "down is down, up is up".  If this is the behavior you're experiencing, this also is the way Lion works.  This, however, can be changed in the mouse or trackpad preference pane in system preferences.  Simply deselect "natural" scrolling.
In a more general sense, its usually not a good idea to do a major software upgrade on your primary machine unless you're willing to deal with some zero-day glitches.  It sounds like the issues you're having aren't actually glitches, and you should be happy for that, but in the future, you might want to wait a few weeks for other users with more experience with major OS launches to find those bugs and point them out to the community for Apple to fix.  In terms of an OS launch, I think this has been absolutely one of the best.  I'm seeing very few major glitches resulting in lost data, few things that would really destroy my personal workflows, and compatiblity issues with other products seems to be well documented or negligible.  It's also a bit hasty to assume that mere hours after launch Apple would have any ability to fix ACTUAL problems with the OS.  My recommendation would be to get used to the change; having to click the mouse at least means you'll never accidentally wake your machine bumping against your desk.

  • Unable to use javac or jar commands

    Hi all,
I've been using my IDE to compile and run my programs. However, when I want to use -javac or -jar commands in my command prompt, it doesnt work.
    The error is :
'javac' is not recognised as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file
    Same goes for jar
-java works for me. Why is that so? I hope anyone can give me solution.
Note : I'm on windows vista
    Another question :
I've been using JMF (Java Media Framework) to develop a simple audio player. However it can be run on my pc. What happens if I try to run the program at another pc, will it still work? The other pc will not have JMF installed, but will have JRE to run java apps. If it cannot be run on the other pc, is there any solution?
Thank you for your kind assistance.
    Edited by: TrAnScEnD3nT on Sep 30, 2007 10:18 PM
Reason : Sorry I have mixed up java and javac, I've corrected it.

    Mainta? That's my favourite!This time...
In very general terms the PATH is a system variable that is maintained and used by your operating system or shell (not Java) to locate executable files. So, for instance, if you type the command:
    >writeit will be the PATH that Windows uses to locate the write.exe word processor.
The directory containing the Java tools - java.exe, javaw.exe, jar.exe, appletviewer.exe etc - very commonly goes into the PATH variable.
The classpath is a list of locations that Java uses to locate classes (as you said). It is used by Java and not your operating system. It is commonly (but not always) set each time you use one of the Java tools. There is a -cp switch that lets you do this. For instance a common command to compile a file would be
    >javac -cp . HelloWorld.javaThe "-cp ." bit means "the classpath shall be the current directory".
Setting a particular classpath does not, in general, affect the "built in" classes of Java, so you don't have to worry about this. If you search the documentation that came with your distribution you will find the exact rules for "how classes are found": but to begin with the important thing is that any classes you write must be included in the classpath which can be specified as part of the commands to compile or run your code.

  • Lost key commands after logic crashed

I've had my own set of key commands, exported and saved in Key Commands folder (also a backup), but (almost) everything flew when last night logic crashed.
Key commands related to keyboard shortcuts were still stored, but nothing to do with those associated to midi controller shortcuts (several sliders and buttons on my keyboard) !!! Arggghh! Tedious work to reassign it! Some help? Some advice to avoid next time the same happens?

Controller assignments are stored in the controller prefs, not the regular prefs.
Make sure you have backups of that too, it's right next to the regular prefs files. It's very easy for Logic to trash controller prefs without you realising it.

  • Problem with start-up on iMac after installing Leopard

I have recently installed Mac OS X 10.5.4 on my iMac and also installed Time Capsule. Now when I turn the iMac on I get the white screen with the grey Apple symbol and the small count down clock/circle for around 1 minute. Then the Apply symbol becomes a grey circle with a line across it (like a non-smoking sign). The fans in the iMac then start up and I have to do a hard shut down using the power switch. I have tried holding the Option key down after the Apple chime on start up and then attempting to select the drive. This worked once but has not since. Does anyone have any idea what I should try next? Many thanks.

I have the same problem. I read this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
And followed the instructions. Basically my problem is that when the system boots, it goes into the desktop but not quite, and then reboots again with the gray screen, then shows the desktop again for a small amount of time, then reboots again.
So I started from my OSX DVD 1 and ran the Disk Utility as recommended. Ran the "Repair Disk" twice. Then ran the "Repair Permissions" twice. (It showed some messages like "ACL found but not expected in /Library" etc).
When I reboot, it still has the same problem. Won't show my desktop at all.
What else can I do now? What is that ACL issue and how can I fix it (or do I have to - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448 )?
Never had these issues with even the lesser OSes like Windows
    Thanks for any pointers!

  • Unable to load many web based games after installing lion

After installing Lion, I am unable to launch several online games (Pogo e.g.). What compatibility issues are being addressed?

I didn't think reinstalling was gonna do me any good except for getting rid of every single thing I have ever installed since getting this MBP.  I'm thinking it has to be something that is on my computer causing this, especially since it only affects my ability to get to this one site and I only started seeing this problem yesterday.
So, I went ahead and disabled all my Chrome extensions and I don't have any Safari extensions at all.  That didn't fix my issue.
I've been trying to run Sophos on here, thinking that maybe I've got a Trojan or some kind of malware, but it never seems to finish a full scan of my hard drive.  That "Plugin" that I mentioned above has me very suspicious, except that whatever that is, it's been on my computer since basically when I first got it.  Maybe it's malicious, or maybe it's just a poorly named piece of software.  In any case, it got updated last night around 11pm, about the same time I noticed my problem.  After trying everything I have, it's hard for me to overlook that as coincidence.
But, where do I go to gain more information about what that could be?  I should mention that this MBP is basically my first Apple computer.  I've been a PC guy (still am mostly) forever, but I finally dove in and got a Mac to start iOS development.  So I'm sure there are ways to get more information than I am currently aware of.
Also, apologies if I posted this in the wrong forum.

  • How to use Time Machine before and after installing a new hard drive

So basically I'm buying a new hard drive for my Macbook pro and I have a lot of files on my computer that I would like to save. I have never used Time Machine before so I need help on how to set it up before AND after installing the harddrive so my files get transferred onto the new hard drive. Thanks in advance

    wjosten wrote:
Me, I would never use Time Machine to do this. What I'd suggest you do is get an exterior enclosure for your new drive. Then use either Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to clone your existing drive to your new drive. Once done, verify your clone is bootable & all of your data present. Then swap drives & use your old drive for Time Machine backups(after erasing it). Then get another drive & exterior enclosure to regularly clone your new drive to.
Unless he was swapping for a lower capacity HDD or to a lower capacity SSD, then the old drive would make a lousy Time Machine disk.  However, whenever I swap out a disk I do exactly what you do.  CCC to get the ol drive onto a new one.  Test by starting up to the new (but still external drive).  Then replace the internal drive.
I usually just sell the old drive on eBay.  My Time Machine backup is always 2X the size of the internal drive, which I believe is a bit above recommendations, but works for me.  The price of large external drives is almost the same as smaller internal ones.

  • Trouble using my mouse in Outlook after installing AA9 Pro

I installed Acrobat 9 Pro on my 64 bit Wondows machine running Vista. Now when I open Microsoft Outlook 2003 I can type, read and send messages but for some reason when I am writing a message I can't use my mouse to insert the curser into text that is already written. I have to use the arrow keys to scroll through the message to fix spelling mistakes and such. I also find that when I work in Outlook and than open a Word document at the same time, my mouse doesn't work in Word 2003 either. Once I quit Outlook, Word will function properly. I also will get an error messaqe after quitting Outlook that asks me if I want to save changes to PDFMCustom. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing and get the same problem. Both programs are updated with the latest versions.
    Any ideas?

It's got nothing to do with disabling Acrobat 9, this is the bit that worked for me, it involves changing a 3 to a 2. Read below.

Any suggestions on how to fix this error
    Thanks

    2 things to check:
    1. Have you set the CLASSPATH correctly in the Weblogic->Server Start?
    2. Are all the required jar files present?

  • Is there a key command for ejecting a dvd or cd from a firewire dvd drive?

I have looked in the chats with no luck. I have two optical drives connected to my G5 powermac one internal and one firewire, and can't remember
the key command to eject a disc from the external one without dragging it to the trash. I know I used to do that it. option / eject button/ or control/ eject but that does not work. I know you can click on the disc icon then do command/e. But I think there is a way to eject it with a key command and not have to click on the disc first. In other words when you hit the keyboards eject button you can eject the disc in the internal super drive with one push of the keyboards eject button. I want to be able to do that with my external dvd drive.
    Any clue?
    Thanks.

hmm, it might not be possible without some third party hack.
    Try the following link:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050520155515566
You'll need to paste the provided script into Script Editor, save it as an application and bind a keyboard shortcut to it using one of many many application launchers like Quciksilver, Butler, Quickeys, ikeys or Spark (suggested by the above link).
    sorry that script is outdated.
    here is the correct one:
    property drawerstatus : true
    if drawerstatus is true then
do shell script "drutil -drive external tray eject"
    else
do shell script "drutil -drive external tray close"
    end if
    set drawerstatus to not drawerstatus
