Unable Streaming Audio Over AirPort

OK, with this forum's help, I've figured out how to stream audio from one of my favorite radio stations to my iMac.. That's all well and good, but I'm unable to hear the resulting audio through my stereo receiver which is networked to my iMac through AirPort using an AirPort Express and a Time Capsule. iTunes plays just fine through this network. What's up? I'm missing something.

depending on the application you use, Airfoil might be able to help.

  • Streaming audio to Airport Express via AirPlay?

I have wired HDMI sending throughout my house, all my media equipment is in my lounge, Apple TV 2, PS3 and Cable TV, my audio is analogue for all but ATV2 which I just bought not realizing that there is digital audio only, d'oh!
Sadly my projector upstairs where I want to watch my media has zero audio capabilities, video is great, audio for ATV2 is non existent.
Can ATV2 stream audio to Airport Express? Every other iDevice I have can so I'm sure the hardware is capable, the old ATV could do this but I suspect Apple would like me to purchase an ATV2 for each room but i dont want to drop another £101 for hardware I already have.
    Thanks

Aw, that's what I thought, thank you for confirming Rudegar. Back to the drawing board..

  • When streaming audio over Bluetooth the wifi is unusable.

When streaming audio over Bluetooth the wifi connection gets slow and unusable. So no Internet radios over Blutetooth, no streaming from Box.net etc. any solution?

Try and change the Wi-Fi channel.

  • Bad sound quality streaming audio via Airport Express

I am streaming audio from iPhone to Apple Airport Express (Airplay). Via optical cable the signal goes to Cambridge DacMagic and then to Stereo Amplifier. Sound is not good, there's some kind of 'chattering'.
When using AirFoil instead of Airplay sound is much better, but then gaps appear from time to time.
Please tell me, what can be the reason for it? And how to solve?
    Thanks in advance.

    Mr. Tessarex,
I use the Airport Exreme as router and Airport Express (2011, direct plug-in model)
Some facts I learned from the Airport-app on my iPhone:
    Wireless clients from Airport Extreme:
    iPhone 150Mb/s (802.11 a/n) connection: excellent
    Acer laptop 144Mb/s (802.11 b/g/n) connection: excellent
    The Airport Express:
    240Mb/s (802.11 a/n) connection: good
I bought the song "Love Me Like You Do" (Ellie Goulding) via iTunes.
As you adviced me I tried to play it via iTunes, and streamed it from iPhone to Airport Express.
Especially listening to the bombastic part of the song (from 3:14). Sound was tolerable.
Playing the song from iPhone via Spotify: sound is awfull, totally overloaded.
Playing the song from laptop via Spotify (Airfoil): sound is good.
Playing the song from laptop via iTunes (Airplay): sound is good.
The song never plays 'Excellent' in any way. I Think the song was recorded 'over the top'.
Even when you listen to it via headphone, it sounds very messy, "on the edge...".
I am happy that most songs sound good. So far playing Spotify via laptop and Airfoil gives the best results.
According to the figures from the Airport-app, it seems I will never get optimal bitrate with my current system.
As amplifier I use the Luxman L505u, usually connected tot Airport Express via Cambridge Dacmagic,
but during testing via normal analog cable (without Dacmagic). So far I think the Dagmagic is not the problem.
What do you think, after reading my story?
    Thanks in advance
    Peter

  • Playing streaming audio using Airport

I have a iMac4 (10.4.11) with an AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x89). I also have an Airport "box", plugged in to the wall, and connected to the back of my stereo. iTunes plays without a hitch through the stereo, but baseball season is coming and I am trying to figure out how to stream audio (not coming through iTunes) via Airport to my stereo. Hope that's not too convoluted!
Can this be done? Must I resort to fuzzy AM signals?

This can be done with a low cost utility called Airfoil - see:

  • Streaming audio to airport express

With iTunes there is an option to send your audio to the Airport Express router. Is there a way or app to send audio (master output) from Logic to the Airport Epress? This would be very usefull to listen to my mixes on my home stereo without using long cables...

Yes, there is. I use Airfoil along with Airport Express for this purpose.
You can download the program here: http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/
The only thing is that this program cost a few bucks, but that is a one-time charge, if I am correct. Works fairly good I must say. Sometimes I get a few drop-outs, but that is rare.
You can stream any audio source through AE with this program too.

  • Stream audio to airport express from motorola wr850g xp pro sp2

I picked up a used airport express in hopes of streaming music from itunes. I installed the airport express utility and it seems to be geared towards setting up a base station. The software complains that windows is not setup to control my wireless network. I plugged the AX directly into my router (motorola wr850g) and it connected and began kicking out a signal (I logged in via my ipod touch). So I know the AX works but I'm curious how difficult it is to set this up with my router. I have access to my router now and access to the AX via the utility when connected via cat5. I don't need AX to repeat the signal if that is any help. Thanks for help.

Hello repke95. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
What you want to do is reconfigure the 802.11g AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to "join an existing wireless network."
    Here's the basic steps ...
Perform a "factory default" reset of the AX
    o (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
To set up AirTunes on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, use the AirPort Admin Utility to check these settings:
    AirPort tab
o Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o Wireless Mode: Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)
    o Wireless Network: <select the existing Motorola's wireless network>
    Music tab
o Enable AirTunes on this base station (checked)
o Enable AirTunes over the Ethernet port (optional)
    o iTunes Speaker Name: <whatever you wish>
    o iTunes Speaker Password (optional)
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Streaming audio over networt

my current project is voice real time chating between two computers over ethernet
i catpured audio samples and saved them in an AudioInputStream object
is there is any way i can stream the audio samples in the AudioInputStream object over ethernet
can i use sockets and how or what are my alternatives?

The Mac's Bluetooth can send audio, but not receive audio. Try connecting the phones headphone jack to the Mac's audio input.

  • Streaming Audio over serial com port

I have a task where I am programming a robotic system and control unit.  I am using a laptop for the control unit.  On the laptop is a microphone.  What I would like to do is capture the audio from the microphone and transmit this via the radio to the robot to play on a speaker.  The radio plugs into the com port on the laptop.  I can transfer a .wav file by using the Flatten to String.vi send and unFlatten on the other side.  What I need to do is stream the audio as it is collected from the microphone.  Is this possible?  If so, any suggestions would be appreciated.

It will depend on the speed you are using and the resolution. Let me give an example. Say you are using 1 start bit one stop  bit and 8 bit data. This mean for each byte you have to send 10 bit. Given that you are using 16 bit for audio and a 115200 rs232 link the maximum sample speed will be 115200/20 equal to 7760 samples pr second. But I guess your actual max speed will be lower. If you only need 8 bit sound  you may get higher data rates. That is perhaps the reason for the strange voice on robots in motion pictures
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • How to record streamed audio over the internet in iTunes?

    One option is iRecordMusic:

The problem is that you have to pay for it (USD 25). Any more cost-effective solutions?

WireTap Pro $19 (Probably the best)
    Audio Hijack $16
    Audio Hijack Pro $32

  • Is there any difference in sound quality in streaming music over Airport Express in IMac, MacBook Pro and iPad?

I've noticed a difference in quality when streaming my iPad wirelessly to my Yamaha receiver and high quality speakers versus my Pro or iMac. The iPad sounds like a toy in comparison to the computers. I'd like some expert advice on what I should expect from the three mentioned devices when streaming wirelessly through a pretty good audio system. Like for instance, should there be much difference in sound quality between the Pro and the iMac?

First, don't hang onto the hope that next year's MBP won't have an optical drive; instead, you'd be advised to purchase a 2011 MacBook Air, which doesn't have an optical drive but relies on SDD. If you need a CD/DVD drive, you can get that separately, if you need. The latest Air has received better reviews than anything else in the Apple lineup.
I'm not an expert on the different brand of keys available. But you'll want to make sure the color is an exactly match to the model. Replacing thes keys is relatively inexpensive but tedious, you might do well to email sellers to guarantee the color and fit.
    Good luck with the repair!

  • Streaming audio to airports

On our bus we have two airports set up to stream music from my MacBook Pro 15 to the stereos.  I cannot find the "multiple speakers" command.  Help?  Thanks, Neal

bottom right corner of the iTunes window should be an AirPlay icon .
if you click on it, a list of available remote speakers would pop up.

  • Streaming audio over several scenes?

Is it possible to have the same audio file run uninterrupted
over the course of several concurrent scenes (ie, a song running
the length of an multi-scene animation)? I haven't been able to
find a code or way to do this.
    Thank you,
    PorkchopBob

Create a new empty presentation. Cut the slides you want from the old presentation and paste them into the new one (you can do this with the slide thumbnails in the Navigator view). Save the new presentation. On the last slide of the now-truncated old presentation, select an object or text to act as the hyperlink, and using the Hyperlink Inspector set the link destination to the new presentation. (If you want the hyperlink itself to be invisible on that last slide, cover the slide with an object and then make that object transparent in the Graphics Inspector -- this will let you click anywhere on the slide to go to the new presentation.)

  • Streaming audio over the net

Is it possible to set up a web stream straight from Logic, so that we can have clients in other cities listen in on what we're doing in the studio?
AUNetSend only works on a Bonjour network right? Haven't been able to get that working either. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Would kind of like it to appear in the Bonjour list of iChat if thats possible.

thanks - thats what ill probably do but not being mechanically oriented (i do software) ill probably get my mechanic to do it - there is probably something already there perhaps in the back of the radio because its prewired for a cd changer in the trunk and that interfaces with the 6 station set buttons on the radio/cd
