Unable to access external harddrive due to SecureHD Login issues

I have a similar situation as discussed in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/10125458.  However, a solution was not reached.  Can anyone help?  I need to get some important information off of the hard drive.

I found my solution the hard way and reloaded my old OS to access the hard drive and remove the security on it.

  • When i drag and drop an image on my site. it gives the following error. "Unable to access local files due to browser security settings. To overcome this, follo"

I am using the firefox version 17 and when i drag and drop an image on my website. It gives me the following error.
Unable to access local files due to browser security settings. To overcome this, follow these steps: (1) Enter "about:config" in the URL field; (2) Right click and select New->Boolean; (3) Enter "signed.applets.codebase_principal_support" (without the quotes) as a new preference name; (4) Click OK and try loading the file again. Or go to the homepage for a link to the tutorial on how to do it.
I have completed the above steps and it is still showing the same error message. Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Thanks kumars ,
I have a specific drag and drop area on our website. This works fine for all earlier releases of Firefox after these security settings

Bust these settings not work for me in Firefox 17.
Yes the drag and drop functionality is java script based and i am not using any script blocker addons.

  • Unable to format external harddrive to fat32

    hi,
I am using the disk utility and am trying to format my external harddrive to fat32 and during the partition, there is no option for "MS-DOS Filesystem" for fat32. which option should I use? I'm on OS 10.6.8

    Hi n,
Have you tried MS-DOS (FAT)? Or does that do 16? Sorry, it's been awhile since I've used that.

  • Accessing  external harddrives wirelessly

How could I go about to access external hardrives wirelessly with my ibook G4?
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You need to connect these external hard drives to the network. Possibilities:
    - cable them to another computer on your LAN, and make the contents shareable
    - if these are USB interface drives, several manufacturers sell adapters specifically designed to turn a USB-interface hard drive into a "network attached storage" device.

  • Cannot access external harddrive

I don't know if this is the right forum. I have copied 750Gb of data from my Macbook Pro to a partition on an external harddrive (WD MyBook). It is formatted as Mac OS extended (Journaled). After that I have used the partition as an airdisk to backup. Now when I connect it to my Macbook Pro USB port it gives me an error saying something like "the reference "xxx" could not be opened because the original item can not be found" (maybe not exactly like that because I'm on a danish Macbook.
I have checked for error on the hard disc using Drive Utility, but it reports no faults.
The same thing happened to me some weeks ago. Back then I reformatted my drive. But I hope there is a way that I can fix this without loosing my backup? Any suggestions? And what can do so this will not happen again? I would hate not to be able to back up my data.

Does it have either the GUID or APM *Partition Map Scheme?*

With Time Machine? If so, the backups are in a +sparse bundle.+

Try repairing the sparse bundle via Disk Utility.

First, if you have both Time Machine backups and other data in the same partition, that's going to be a problem, sooner or later. See #3 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
Second, Time Machine stores it's backups differently when they're done locally vs. over a network. Network backups are in a +sparse bundle;+ local ones are in a Backups.backupdb folder at the top level of the volume. Even if you're able to repair the sparse bundle, Time Machine may not continue backing-up to it. And you won't be able to see those backups normally, either. You'll have to manually mount the sparse bundle, then use the +*Browse ...+* option, per #17 in the FAQ Tip.

  • Acomdata external drive MAC using SecureHD LogIn.

Has anyone figured out how to update Acomdata external drive to use on MAC using SecureHD LogIn?
The only way now is to launch the PC side of MAC, sign in then suspend the PC side, then the drive appears on the MAC desktop and can be used. This is a pain!

    Hi pealo86
If your going to be using the External HD strictly for backing up the iMac, ie Time Machine or Cloning with SuperDuper or CarbonCloner, then you will want to reset the Partition Map Scheme to *GUID Partition Table* and the Format to *Mac OS Extended* (Journaled).
adding these DU instructions > http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/partitioningtiger.html
If however you wish to use the External Drive for sharing files between OS X and Windows then you will either need the Mac software that JGG has suggested or need to reset the Drive Format to MS-DOS FAT-32, which unfortunately has a file size limit of 4GB.

  • Unable to access external HD.

I have a imac 2011 and when i turn on the external hd it does not put an icon on the desktop.  the icon occurs when i plug in a jump drive or any of the portable storage drives i have.   i am running yosemite now and it does not show up, it did before the update.  it is connected via firewire.  it will back up as time machine but i cannot access my files i once was able to store there.  the drive is a 250GB G-drive that i had purchased with the computer.   it is not making any funny noises and it is completing back up's to the computer.  if i open up a window there is no recognition of it being open so i cannot select the contents in that window and i am unable to properly 'eject the device' so i am constantly getting notifications that it was improperly ejected.

While in the Finder select Finder Preferences. Make sure that External Disks is selected so that they show on the desktop.

  • Unable to access external drive connected to Mac Pro running Mountain Lion

When I initially connect, it is accessable and I am able to back up to it.  But after a few weeks, it no longer allows changes.  It is still mounted, and I can see the directories on it, but can no longer write to it.  I was told by the folks at G-drive that this is a known problem with Mountain Lion.  I really need my drive to stay available....I notice that there is an update to 10.8.4, but before taking my FM Pro Server offline, I'd like to know if the update will fix the problem.
    Thanks.

I don't know if it's the same problem, but in the last few weeks we have had that happen on two machines running Snow Leopard and one running Lion 10.7.5.  In our case, it always involves Time Machine, and the FW external FW drive becomes read-only for no apparent reason and despite the fact that Command+I reveals the user "can read and write" to the drive.  Running Apple's disk utility to Repair Disk a few times usually fixes it.
It's just infuriating. Ever since Leopard came out with Time Machine I had had that intrusive, obnoxious utility permanently disabled. I enabled it in Lion, and I've disabled it again.

  • Unable to Access External HD, truly appreciate your help!

Good evening everyone, thanks in advance for your response. I tried looking all over for an answer to my question so I wouldn't have to bother you, but was unable to find anything sufficient. I am running 10.6.8 and I've been using an external hard drive to store some of my work files. Usually, whenever I plug it in to the USB there is a message that asks something to the effect of whether I want to use it as a Mac External HD. I always click "decide later." Yesterday, I was trying to set up Time Machine and with just a few clicks (I don't remember exactly what I clicked), I am now unable to see the files in my External HD. When I try to open it, there is just a perpetual spinning grey circle at the bottom right of the finder window. I've tried looking around "Disk Utility" for an answer but don't know what to do now. I don't think the hard drive was reformatted / the files were deleted, because when I click info there is still the same amount of GB used as before. Does anyone know how I can revert back to the old setting or otherwise retrieve my files?
Thank you so much for your time and help! I really appreciate it.

Download Data Rescue and run that against the external drive and send the output to another drive. Pay the $100 if it can recover files.
Then once your files are safe (or not) then you can address the issue with the drive.
If you can't recover your files, call a lawyer to send a message to Apple about their automatic window poping up altering people's drives/destroying data when they accidentially click the wrong thing.
This is a widespread problem with them, they dumb down stuff and automate things to a fault.

  • Unable to access external USB drive on my windows machine

I have an XP SP2 box with several partitions. I Just purchased a MacMini (fisrt time apple user). I have joined the maac to the same workgroup as the XP box and can access all the partitions on the XP box with no problem. With the exception of the C: drive and the External USB drive.
I have the drive at Fat32 and can connect directly to the mac with no problems. Read, write all works fine. connect back to the XP box and I get an error -43. It ask for a user name and password and knows if I use the wrong password. I can even see a list of shares on the sub folders of the external drive but get the error when I try to access.
    Thanks in advance
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

This could be a smart design inside XP. FAT32 can't store file ownership so maybe it refuses to share a FAT format drve? From a security point of view this would be the right thing to do. On the other hand it could be a bug in XP that just by dumb lock looks like it is doing the right thing.
Either way it sounds like you have a good workaround: put the drive on the Mac and let the Mac share the drive. It's best if the drive is reformatted for the Mac so that user ownership and permissons can be used.
Don't worry one computer can't know how another's dive is formatted. The network hides this. All my shared files are on EXT3 formatted drives on a Linux server. All the clients see is "SBM".

  • Unable to Access External Wireless Drive

I recently had to swap the harddisk on my macbook and re-install all my software. As a result, I can no longer access my Iomega Minimax Drive that I have connected to my Fritzbox Router. I can access the external drive via the desktop PC, but the Macbook cannot find or recognize the drive. The Macbook is connected, however, and I have Internet access.
Any suggestions or assistance would be much appreciated.

Ah, no. That certainly sounds like the problem though. A friend of mine set it up for me originally and I'm not too familiar with networking. How do I go about adding permission? On the router directly?
    Thanks.

  • Dashboard - Unable to access external data (BW connection)

    Hello everyone
I have observed below error when dashboard is opened.
We are using SAP Dashboard 4.0 SP5 (patch 2) and it uses BW connection for its data source (SAP NW connection). Dashboard is run on SAP portal and we are not using BO enterprise.
We noticed this error recently after doing an BW SPS upgrade to BW 7.3 SP11.
I tried opening the query via Business Explorer and Query designer and it succeeded but via dashboard. We used 9 query connection for the dashboard and all of them provide the same result.
I presume that it might be due this but do we have any SAP notes or any solution already for this problem? I looked around SCN forums and couldn't find it. Can anyone help me on this please ?
    Regards

It sounds like your problem is caused by the subnet created by the AirPort Express (AX) for wireless clients. To eliminate this problem, configure the AX so that the option to distribute IP addresses is DISABLED.

  • Unable to access external drive.

I'm a newbie to macs. Tried to use my Maxtor One Touch III USB external hard drive which had previously been my windows backup drive, on my new mac. Copied all the files to the mac, reformatted it with Mac Extended and then copied the files back over to the drive. Everything was fine until I installed the "proper drivers" for the Maxtor drive and now the drive isn't recognized at all by the mac. A call to maxtor revealed that the USB drive is not supported on mac. My question is is there any way to "uninstall" these new drivers I installed and revert back to the native mac driver that originally recognized the drive? Any other ideas?

Congrats on the new iMac 24" and welcome to Apple Discussions... you've come to the right place.
Have you tried doing a search for the external drive software (drivers)? If not, click the round (blue or gray) icon top right of your screen, that is Spotlight. In the drop down search field type in the name of the software. Hopefully it will return the names of the files and where they are. If you locate the Maxtor files, drag them to the Trash.
If you get that far... go here and download a new driver for Macintosh:

  • Unable to access external video file after publishing in html5

I am trying to publish a project that contains links to external files (.mp4 videos). After publishing, I get an path error message when I try to run the videos after publishing. The references to the videos are by name without any paths specified.
When I published the file the videos reside in the same folder as the captivate project file.
The instructions say copy the files to the output folder after I publish as html5.
What I did was extract the zip folder
Place the videos in the parent folder after extraction.
Ran the project. It runs except for the video execution.
There are a number of folders when the zip file is extracted.
Am I placing the videos in the right folder?

I personally prefer to get my files up on the server and link directly to them in Captivate.
Are you putting your's in the root folder of your project? eg. /projectname/... instead of/projectname/callees/ ?
