Unable to access Home Hub 3.0 router

For some reason I am unable to access the router.
I normally type 192.168.1.254 into the address bar but have started getting the 'Internet Explorer cannot access the web page message'. Doesn't work on Chrome or Safari either.
This was working fine up until a couple of weeks ago - any ideas?

Hi apollo9 and welcome
Try clearing your browser cache (on all 3) or power the hub down for a minute or two, switch it back on, allow all the lights to go blue and try again.
also fwiw, bthomehub.home should work too

  • Accessing Home Hub 4 with windows 8.1 and Internet...

    Hello
I can no longer access my home hub manager wirelessly running windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer 11 from my toshiba laptop by either typing in the IP address or by http://bthomehub.home/. I can still access it by either method from a laptop running windows XP. I have Infinity and Home Hub 4a. This problem has arose recently and I did upgrade from windows 8 last week so could this be the problem. Has anyone any suggestions?
    Regards
    Adrian
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Seems to be a Network Adapter problem for most people, and usually updating the driver works.
If you have just installed 8.1/8.1 pro, you will typically need to install your motherboard and other driver software. After you have done this, most people can access the internet, but have problems with the bt hub ip/url access link.
To update the Network Adapter(s) use the following steps:
    1. search for Device Manager, and open it up
    2. Select/expand Network adapters, and the adapter(s) on your machine should show up.
    3. Right click on the adapter(s) that appear and select 'Update Driver Software'
    4. It should come up with 2 options - select 'Browse my computer for driver software'
    5. The next screen should come up with the default location for your machine, so just click the next button on the bottom right of this window.
    6. Your network adapter(s) will appear, and just select 'update driver software' and the latest version will be installed.
    7. That should fix most problems right away - if not, your machine (including hub and router) may need switched off and back on.
I can't guarantee it will fix every problem, but the most common problem seems to be that the latest network adapter drivers needs a manual update after installing 8.1/8.1 pro, even after you install your motherboard / ethernet drivers.
If you still experience problems accessing bt hub or internet, you can try this additional step:
    1. On your keyboard press Start + X keys (or microsoft logo key + X)
    2. This should open up system options dialogue box at the bottom left of your screen.
    3. Select Command Prompt (Admin) option.
    4. In command screen (old DOS screen) type the following: ipconfig /release (there is a space between config and /)
    5. This will release your ip address back into the network and cut your connection (don't worry)
    6. Whilst still in command screen, flush the dns cache - type: ipconfig /flushdns (space here again also)
    7. type exit to get out of command screen.
    8. Switch off your pc, and switch it off at the wall, also switch off router & bthub.
    9. Wait a few mins before flicking switches back on at the wall only - dont switch on pc yet - wait a min or so then switch on pc.
    10. You may need to run through the updating network adapter drivers again from the steps at the top - although this should not be needed.

  • Replacing Home hub 3 as router, what info do I nee...

How do I go about finding the authenication required to connect a third party router to my residential Broadband and any other configuration bits and bobs?
For various reasons I am looking to replace the Home hub 3 with a Cisco 1720 router. I plan on maintaining the HomeHub as just an Access Point, adding cabling and putting in Ethernet throughout my house so I can do lots of interesting things as I study for CCNA and MCSE.
The 1720 is somewhat speed limited, but can route packets faster than I can currently get off my residential broadband. If we ever get FTTC then I'll need to upgrade but my exchange (NSFIN) only has ADSL Max, and I know of no plans to upgrade it at all.

ADSL uses PPPoA. (Point To Point Protocol Over ATM)
If you use a different router with ADSL, then you need to make sure that the authentication is set to PPPoA.
You can use a user name of [email protected] and a password of bt

    Hi all,
How can I access my BT Home Hub and all other devices on the network. I was thinking VPN but I dont know how to do it. Teamviewer was just not cutting it
    I have a BT Home Hub 4

VNC is going to be the only one that is simple to setup, and does not require professional versions of Windows.
Its also "cross-platform" and there are versions for other OS.
Each computer would need to have its own port number, typically port 5900  5901 5902 etc.

  • Unable to access Home on shared drive

Have an iMac and MacBook. After "upgrading" to 10.5.6, I can't "see" my Home directory on either Mac when connecting via AirPort or Firewire. On both machines, I have set prefs so the Home directory is shared. I select the Shared file server in the Finder. I enter my username and password. I see the home directory of the Mac I'm using as well as the other Mac. I select the other Mac but the only User directory that appears is the Shared directory -- my Home directory doesn't appear.
This worked just fine under 10.5.5 and I'm stymied & frustrated. (So while looking for an answer to this, I'm also researching the best way to downgrade to 10.5.5 which I have on an external drive...)

if you are connecting as a registered user don't make the home directory shared. there is no need for this. when connected as a registered user you'll have access to it. if you make it registered it will be treated as a separate share point and you'll see it separately when you click on the the remote mac in the Shared section of the sidebar but it will indeed disappear from /Users.
so either connect as a guest or (and this is better) don't make the home directory shared and connected as a registered user.

  • Regular disconnection from my Home Hub 2.0 on Infi...

For the last year I've been getting regularly disconnected on the wireless from my Home Hub 2.0 router on Infinity - and have to reset to get the connection back (this happens to all phones and laptops connected) - this is despite the blue lights remaining 'on' on the hub. It's now getting more and more frequent (5 times per day) - making skype calling a challenge. Also the line speed degrades and a reset brings this back up. I contacted the help line a few months ago but failed to fully resolve this. In my mind the home hub is faulty and I need a new one - but seems v difficult to get that to actually happen.
I'm on the verge of cancelling and going to another provider now I'm out of contract - any advice?

From the memory, (which is not very good at the best of times), the Home Hub 2 is not infinity compatible.  The router needs to be able to support PPoE on a WAN port.  The HH2 does not have a WAN port.
Other than that there are lots of threads on here re: unreliable wireless connections.  Too many to list all the definitive suggestions.  A search should help.
As to BT replacing the router, BT may replace it if it is deemed faulty within the warranty period.  If the router is over a year old it will be out of warranty and as it was purchased by you as part of the contract it will be your problem to sort out.
Many on here have replaced or not even used the supplied router.  As long as the replacement supports PPoE and has a WAN port, (i.e. Cable router), you should be OK.  There as also a growing number of routers that are VDSL capable so it may be a consideration to replace the modem as well.  With regards to router replacement this thread may be of interest.

  • Can I connect more than one device to home hub?

I am a new user and have my PC connected to my home hub and all works well.
My husband has just got an ANDROID and we want to connect as well. I thought I was doing it ok and entered the security key but all I get is authenticating and not much else and it does not connect. Have I missed something do I have to put anything else in other than the security key?
It connects ok to the external BTwifi and BT Wifi with Fon but of course we are not supposed to do that.
    Sue

it may be a problem with your Android (whatever model) as any home hub or WiFi router should take loads of other devices I am not sure there is a limit but I have 8 connected.
If you have anyone else that has a tablet or phone that you can get them to test to see if the problem is with the hub or your android device.
The only other thing I can suggest is that if it is a home hub 4 which also uses 5Ghz as well as 2.4Ghz some people have had problems with 5Ghz and if you can see both from your device selecting the 2.4Ghz may help.

  • Setting up bt home hub with airport extreme and timecapsule

Hi I am running BT Broadband direct into a BT Home Hub (Black version) then ethernet into an airport extreme.
Timecapsule then extending the apple network and an iMac ethernet into the timecapsule
Various other macbooks, iPhones,iPads, iPods and apple tv wirelessly linked in. (and an hp multifunction printer)
The network seems very slow and unstable - any suggestions on how to tune it?
    Thanks
    Nigel

Introducing wireless repeater or bridge causes double hopping wireless. It greatly reduces speed and efficiency of wireless. I am not 100% sure I understand your arrangement. But there are limited wireless channels and the result of many wireless devices fighting each other is bad.
    1. Do you have wireless turned off in the Home Hub? Please do unless it is providing important connections.
    2. What mode is the AEBS running in? Because with BT you must use the home hub as a router, you should have the AEBS bridged. Is that the case?
    3. Wireless extending networking adds issues as stated. Get rid of this. The best method is to link the TC and AEBS by alternative.. ie ethernet is the best by huge margin. If you cannot do this in your house then use EOP adapters. They are not foolproof but if they work, they keep working with reliability and stabilty and speed that wireless cannot match. You can then run the AEBS and TC as roaming WAP, by using different channels but same SSID (wireless name), and security settings and passwords.

  • How to use Home Hub 3 as a 2nd router(access point...

Hi guys hope you can help; I am trying to add my Home Hub 3 as a 2nd router (ie an access point) to my home network and struggling.
What am I trying to achieve.
I have a fully functioning home network which is working great but the wireless range does not extend to the room above my garage, some distance away from the main house. I currently service it with an Ethernet link from my E4200 router, via the mains wiring, to link to a PS3 there. But I want to extend this to have a wireless network in the remote room so I can link multiple devices - rather than spend more money, deploying a 2nd router which I already have  is preferable.
    What have I got.
I have a Linksys E4200 router (nice piece of kit) attached to my ADSL line via a Belkin N1 wireless modem-router set to  “modem only” mode (I was using a DSL modem until yesterday but that went AWOL and digging out the Belkin router I saw that it had a modem only function – and it/they worked first time )
All of my gear in the house is attached wirelessly to the E4200 which is delivering circa 11.5mbps from a maximum of 12.5mbps for the line measured by BT onsite. So  all is  fine there.
What have I done to try and use the HH3
Linked an Ethernet cable between one of the Ethernet ports on the E4200 to a mains plug.
Linked an Ethernet cable from a mains plug to one of the Ethernet ports on the HH3 router.
Ie as the PS3 was linked.
    3.  Switched on the HH3 router: the power light is solid blue, the wireless light is solid blue, the broadband light is off
    4. Connected my laptop to the HH3 network and loading up a web page on IE9 displays a web page from bthomehub.home/etc etc with title BT Home Hub and a message “Can’t connect to Broadband”. It is the start of a self- diagnostic routine. Answering all the questions I eventually get a Home Hub Administrative Home Page displayed.
Is there a quicker way of getting to this admin page??
    5.  I switched off DHCP
I changed the IP address from 192.168.1.254 to 192.168.1.200 as this seems to be what the other threads on this subject did.
When I went to apply the change a message came up telling me that I might not be able to access the HH3. I ploughed on disregarding this and needless to say I could not then access the HH3 via the web interface and trying to access a web site nothing happened.
    6.  I did a hardware reset on the HH3
    7. Going through the motions again, when I got to the admin pages again, I switched off DHCP and this time left the IP address alone, ie 192.168.1.254.
When I went to apply this  I got the message
“After changing these settings you will need to renew the IP address of all devices connecting to your BT Home Hub. Please follow the instructions provided with your devices.”
I applied the change – but have not yet done any fooling around with IP addresses on my laptop because I don’t want to start mucking around with my laptop
I then tried to access a website, and failed, but on this occasion rather than nothing happening, the Home Hub website came up  again displaying the error message page.
And that is where I stand. All looks so easy when reading other threads on this and other forums but it is not working for me.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
The IP settings on the E4200 are
    IP  192.168.1.1
    Range  192.168.1.100  to 192.168.1.149
Also connection type on the E4200 is POE not POA – as far as I  recall that is what it needed to be to connect to the DSL modem and work.

    Thanks for the speedy reply!
I have actually came across this page before - I seem to hit a snag when I connect the repeater hub (my HH3).  As outlined, I have at all times kept the repeater hub connected via ehternet into one of the regular LAN ports to my main HH5.
But when I connect my laptop to the repeat hub (HH3), I am actually connected to the internet somehow (I assuem using the HH5 network) but under my network connections it says I am connected to the HH3.  As a result, when I go to the homehub settings page 192.168.1.254, it brings me to the main HH5 settings page and not the repeater HH3.
According to the instructions it says I should "Ignore the not connected page", but I am connected and I cant seem to alter any of the settings on my HH3 while it is connected to the HH5.
    Any other pointers?
    Thanks!

  • Home hub 3 as second router (access point) - anyon...

Hi all, I have my infinty connection from the modem to a netgear wndr4500 cable router. I am trying to get a better signal upstairs but using the home hub 3 as a secondary router / wifi point (connected to the netgear with homeplugs). I have done all the necessary changes such as disabling dhcp on the hh3 and changing its ip address to one on the same network as the netgear but outside of its dhcp range (192.168.1.254). uPnP is enabled on both routers. I can log into the settings page on the hh3 and it even tells me the list of devices on the network in its network diagram (all connected via the netgear). I can connect the hh3 wirelessly but cannot reach the Internet. Anyone help me out? Edit: since typing this I cannot connect to the hh3 wirelessly anymore as it will not assign an ip address. Oh and Ethernet cable is LAN port to LAN port.

    Thanks Keith for the guide.
Once I printed it, I just walked myself through and it appears to have worked!  This morning I had a few concerns about accessing a network storage area connected to the main hub, from the slave, but my concerns were unfounded.  I found the same with the printer.  Without the slaved access, the printer's wifi connectivity throughout the house was patchy.  Connected to the slave, it seems back to a solid thing again.
Now just the Sure Signal to sort out.  Does anyone have experience with Sure Signals and this sort of arrangement?  I acutally think the issue with that is the HH5, rather than the master/slave arrangement.
