  • Unable to Access Internet Despite Adapter Showing "Connected".

Hi, I have a Lenovo "G"-Series notebook, Type 4446-38U which has suddenly stopped allowing me to access my internet connections.  The PC is only about a month old.  It is running XP Professional.
I have three connection options:  1) dial-up (using an onboard HDAudio Soft Data Fax Modem with Smart CP); 2) ethernet or Local Area Connection (using an onboard Broadcom Netlink Fast Ethernet); and 3) wireless (using an onboard Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN) -- none of these components are showing that they have conflicts/problems in the System Properties/Device Manager.
At my home, which is located in a rural area where I can only get dial-up, I tried checking my e-mail last week (with Mozilla Thunderbird), but received an error notice stating that the e-mail server could not be found; it was the same issue, when I tried to get Norton virus updates (Internet Security 2009), XP updates on the Microsoft website (using Microsoft Updates with Internet Explorer), and simply accessing the web (using Mozilla Firefox) -- i.e., "Server Not Found."  The odd thing is that I can not only hear the connection being made by the modem, but can also see that the device is 'Connected', when I check the connection in Control Panel/Network Connections.  The following day at my office, I checked the other connection options (ethernet & WiFi), and found that I had the same problem -- i.e., they were shown as "Connected" in Control Panel/Network Connections, but I was unable to access anything on the web (e.g., e-mail, Google, virus/Microsoft updates, etc.).  It's as if there is something blocking the internet connection to these programmes/utilities.
When I ran the Microsoft Networking Troubleshooter ('Diagnose Network Configuration & Run Automated Networking Tests), all the Network Adapters were shown as having passed.  Ditto, when I ran the "Test a TCP/IP Configuration Using the Ping Command" -- pinging 127.0.0.1, the results showed 4 packets sent and 4 received.
I spent several hours on the phone with Lenovo Tech Support to no avail, and their instruction that I uninstall Norton Internet Security made no difference either.  When they instructed me to open a Command Prompt and ping 192.168.1.1, the results showed that there were 4 packets sent and 4 received.  When I was instructed to ping the IP Address for the wireless adapter, the results showed 4 packets send and 4 received.  When I was instructed to ping www.google.com, the results showed that the ping request could not find the host www.google.com.  Lenovo Tech Support stated that there was nothing further they could do, and that I needed to use a utility to set everything back to factory specs (i.e., have a utility programme erase everything on the hard drive and reinstall XP ... and even then I was told that there was no guarantee that would fix things, meaning that the PC would then have to be sent into their repair depot).  Before I do this, I was hoping that someone here might know as to what's going on with my connection problems and how it could be fixed, without having to erase everything.
I would appreciate any insight or advice anyone might have.  Thanks so much!
    ~ Jack

I did do a complete uninstall of Norton (i.e., didn't save any of the settings), but that didn't resolve the connection problem.  I also turned off Microsoft's firewall as well, once Norton was uninstalled (it had been turned off, when Norton was installed, and once Norton was uninstalled, MS firewall defaulted back to an on/active status).
I also forgot to mention in my initial description of the problem and actions taken thus far to try and correct it, that I additionally tried the "ping" procedure described in paragraph five above in Windows Safe Mode with Networking, but was still unable to connect to the internet.

  • Unable to access Internet using a Mobile Network

    Hello friends
I recently updated my SE Xperia mini pro 17i (2011 model) to ICS, initially there were some issues and I had to re-update it to finally get authentic interface of ICS. Even after the successful update I am unable to use the mobile network to access Internet, the only way  is to use a Wifi instead. Can somebody please help me out with this issue?
    Karan

The first thing I would advise doing is contacting your current network provider and have them send you through the relevant internet settings.

  • Ipad is connected to the wifi but unable to access internet or receive mail.

Recently set up new broadband connection. Wifi set up and iphone, computer all able to connect to wifi and internet. Ipad recognises old networks and able to connect for wifi access, but for this new connection I am able to connect with the ipad but it does not seem to be able to receive or transmit any information, hence I am unable to access any internet, update any apps or check my email. Can anyone help? I've tried rebooting the system, forgetting the network and shutting the ipad off, all to no avail!

I've rebooted the router, I've made the ipad forget previous settings, rebooted the ipad, called the useless talktalk technical help. I have used this ipad previously with a previous talktalk connection. I'm not sure why this time I can't connect - perhaps its the security setting on the new router that isn't competible with the ipad? I'm using a D-link DSL-3680 router if that helps

  • Able to backup to Time Capsule - unable to access internet

I have the following devices that need to connect to the internet using the Time Capsule:
    1) iMAC purchased in 4/09 - need to access internet wirelessly;
    2) MacBook Pro - 5 years ago; and - need to access internet wirelessly;
    3) Lenovo laptop with Windows XP - work assigned laptop - need to access by ethernet, tunnel into work with iPass.
    4) Apple TV -just connected today - am able to get my music, but haven't been able to access iTunes store.
My cable modem is a Motorola. If the model # is important, I can get it, I'm just too tired right now.
I installed the Time Capsule this morning, was able to configure it to my iMac and back it up; then was able to connect to the internet until I tried to set up the MacBook Pro. During that configuration Airport Utility diagnostics instructed me to disconnect the modem and I lost connection with the iMac and never was able to get a connection with my MacBook Pro. I don't even want to think about the Lenovo laptop until I get the MAC's worked out.
I have no spaces or dashes in the names of my MacBook, iMac, Time Capsule or Apple TV, I've been at this for over 14 hours and I'm exhausted.
My cable modem connects to the Time Machine WAN port; and I have a cable connected from a Time Capsule ethernet port directly to my Lenox laptop.
I have not tried to connect my Linksys wireless router to the Time Capsule.
I had to disconnect the Time Capsule and reconnect my Linksys router to get back on the internet to read all the discussions which are not helping me.
    HELP!

This issue has been resolved...talk to someone at Apple and we had to unplug the broadband coax cable and finally got it up and running.

  • ACCESSING INTERNET ON WINDOWS VISTA AFTER PARTITIONNG THE HARD DRIVE. HELP?

We have just bought a new Apple Imac. We partitioned the Hard drive, using Bootcamp in order, to install Windows Vista Home edition (so that we can run our Sage Accounting package), We have been able to access our broadband internet with no problems on the Apple side of the partition, however on Windows we are finding it impossible to set up a connect, either ethernet or wireless. When we go into device manager in Vista it states that Broadcom network adapter cannot start (code 10). I believe this is a driver issue; However, I've contacted Microsoft and they have been unable to help, I have since contacted Apple and they said they don't offer support for Microsoft products. So we're basically stuck in limbo!! Can anyone help us or throw any ligt on what we could try next? Any input would be much appreciated. In anticipation of a reply, many thanks.

    I believe this is a driver issue;
You did install those drivers from the DVD that came w/the computer didn't you?

  • Unable to access files on Windows 7 computer from Windows 8.1 computer

I have a Windows 7 desktop and a Windows 8.1 laptop.  Both connect wirelessly to the internet via my Home Hub.  Because the desktop is my main repository of documents / pictures etc. I want to be able to access them from the laptop, but despite
spending ages surfing for assistance I can't manage to do this.
At this stage I'll cheerfully confess to being semi-PC-illiterate and totally confused about Network File Sharing, Homegroups and Workgroups!
One fundamental problem seems to be this - I can ping the laptop from the desktop but not vice-versa.  That said, if I run Explorer on the desktop and click on Network, it displays both machines (and the hub).  If I run Explorer on the laptop and
click on Network, it displays the laptop and the hub, but
    not the desktop.
I'd be grateful if some kind reader could patiently suggest how I could diagnose and fix the problem!
    Many thanks in anticipation.

    Hi,
We haven't heard from you for several days, Would you mind letting me know the result of the suggestions? If you need further assistance, feel free to let me know. I will be more than happy to be of assistance.
Please understand that Network discovery is a network setting that affects whether your computer can find other computers and devices on the network and whether other computers on the network can find your computer.
Please configure this settings to check this issue.
    For your reference:
    What is network discovery?

  • Unable to access internet after reactivationg iPhone 4

I recently had to have another device on my Sprint account reactivated on my phone number in order to have some repairs done so that I could give the phone to another user on my account.  When I had my iPhone 4 reactivated on my line, I was not able to access the internet.  I have completed all of the troubleshooting steps provided by the carrier, with the exception of a master reset and I still receive the error message that says: "You are not subscribed to a cellular data service."  The store agent said the only fix was to do a master reset.  My only concern is that I will lose all of the downloaded music content on the device as it was not purchased from iTunes.  Any suggestions????

Double-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    www.google.com
    Launch the Network Utility application.
    Step 1
Select the Lookup tab and paste into the address field (command-V). Press return. Post the output that appears below – the text, please, not a screenshot.
    Step 2
Select the Ping tab and do the same. Please enter the same input as you did in Step 1. Don't use the output of Step 1 as input to Step 2.
    Important Note
Some web browsers and mail clients will automatically convert a domain name such as "www.example.com" to a clickable URL, such as http://www.example.com. That will interfere with the test. If necessary, edit the input in the Network Utility window to remove any added characters.

  • Unable to access internet on initial setup (Macbook)

My internet service was activated yesterday and after following all the steps in the guidebook I was able to find my wireless network and enter in the password.  It is showing that I am connected with full service however I have absolutely no access to the internet.  I have called Verizon tech support three times and no one was able to really help me (one lady just kept telling me to plug and unplug the same cord).  They said they would have someone work on the problem from a remote location and give me a call when it was fixed however it has been almost five hours since then.  I was wondering if anyone else had problems when setting up to a Mac problem and if there is an easy solution (ie. maybe I need to change the settings on the Macbook?)

I have been a Mac user with Verizon for a number of years. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, but have this recent experience: Verizon used to have a number for Mac tech support but when I called it last month I found it it discontinued. I had to use the regular number, and the tech said they now handle both Windows and Mac. That is not good; Windows people are not Mac people. I asked them to help me with the setting changed Verizon said are required for MacMail. The tech was in the Philippines. He obviously did not know the Mac settings as he had to refer to manuals and another person for assistance assisting me. We were on the phone a LONG time for something that should have taken 10 minutes. Unfortunately, I allowed screen-sharing; I would not do that again. The outcome: my main email account stopped sending and receiving and now won't accept the password; and my sub-account doesn't send from my new computer. Fortunately it still sends from my old laptop. My sub-account webmail works, but my main account doesn't. I didn't call their tech support again yet as I was in the middle of a job and couldn't risk losing email altogether. Now I have to deal with them again. I am going to look for a new ISP, preferably local where I hope to get the customer service I need.

  • WRT610N unable to access internet Wirelessly.

Hello, i have resently purchase a WRT610N from best buy. I used the easy step installation from the CD to install the router, and things seemed to go well, but when i tried to connect with another computer in a room next to the router with a WMP54Gs, im am able to gain connection to the access point, but gain no internet connection. Also, when trying to connect wirelessly with this current computer with it's built-in wireless connecter, it still has the same problems. I have tried reseting both the router and the modem, and also even updated the firmware of the router. Are the any steps i might be missing in figuring out this problem?

If you have access to internet on a wired PC/Computer you need to adjust the wireless settings on your router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1

Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
If you still could not connect to your wireless network/internet you may un-install and re-install the adapter drivers...
Un-install the Linksys Software...To re-install Insert the Linksys Setup CD into your CD-ROM drive, When the Welcome screen appears click Exit, Reboot the computer now...When the  Hardware Update Wizard window appears, click Install the software automatically (Recommended) then click Next.

  • Unable to access internet via Airport Express

Hi. I'm have trouble connecting to the internet using my Airport Express.
When I plug in my DSL modem to the unit, I get the solid green light. My Macbook is able to connect to the airport, and to other computers on the same Airport.
However, none of my computers are able to reach any internet sites. They were even unable to directly ping a remote IP address. However, if I plug my DSL modem directly into my Macbook, bypassing the Airport, it correctly connects to the internet, which leads me to believe the problem is with my Airport.
A couple of oddities which I don't know if they are normal. First, in my MacBook's network prefs, the DNS box is blank. However, I'm connected via DHCP, so I didn't know if that'd matter. In the airport configuration app, under internet, it's also using DHCP, but the box is empty, with the same address as the router (192.168.1.1) greyed out next to it. The IP address is 192.168.1.5. This number is rather different than when I connect to my DSL router directly on my MacBook.
I'm running what I believe to be the newest firmware (6.3).
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks,
    Nathaniel

    Hi,
I solved the problem using the airport express firmware 6.1.1. and erasing all favourites networks in network pref panel to create new ones. You may also check the keychains utility (applications -> utilities). If there is several times the same pass, just keep the latest and erase the others.
    Hope my english is understandable...

  • VPN Issues: Unable to access internet once connected.

I need to connect to my workplace via a VPN (Cisco IPSec) connection. Typically we use a Cisco VPN client to allow for access, but I'm using the built in support within Mountain Lion.
I am able to succesfully connect via the VPN connection, but once connected I am unable to proceed to access any websites, and when I lauch terminal and try to ping anything, it just sits and waits.
I have sorted the network connections so that the VPN is at the top of the sort order within the Network Preferences?
    Any suggestions:
