Unable to access preferences

I'm trying to learn to use idvd 6. I want to do a slide show with music. When I go to the help menu, it tells me to go to preferences to set the 'TV safe area'. I click on IDVD, a drop down menu appears, but the first 7 choices starting with About IDVD are grayed out.
How do I fix this problem so I can access the menu choices?

Occasionally a file within the application gets its
permissions screwed up and locks you out. That can
affect menus as well as other functionality. First
run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions. If
that doesn't help, make a duplicate copy of the
application and try the following:
Download and run BatChmod</
a> on the iDVD application file with the settings
shown here, putting your
administartive name in the owner and group sections.
You can either type in the path to the application or
just drag the application into that
field.
Although the permissions give more to you that
normally would but it will work if that's the
problem. If it doesn't and you don't want to keep
the modified version, trash it and rename the backup
to just iDVD.app.
Do you
Twango?
Like so much in ilife the answer is simple if you know the right question to ask. I just needed to put in a completed project and save it. Then the drop down menu comes up in black, not greyed out! How simple. Blush:))))

  • Unable to access Preferences/Advanced/Burning

    iTunes 7.7.1
Every time I try to access Preferences/Advanced/Burning, the program hangs. I logged into a new user area and updated iTunes to 7.7.1 and it does the same thing.

I am sorry to hear that you aren't finding a solution to your issue.
Here's what I did when I came up with the same problem. Yes, this is an ebook that I received from my school.
I downloaded the ebook and then tried to "Open" instead of "Save". When I saved the attachment and then opened, I could open the file without the error. I received the error when I tried to Open it from the school website.
I researched the term "Trusted Manager Preference". Go to "Edit", "Preferences", "Trusted Manager", "Change Settings". Ensure that the checkbox with "Let Me Specify a list of ...". The box with "My Web Sites" has a Always Block next to the site. Type that website into the allow box, Click Allow. This will add it to the My Web site box. Delete the site that is always blocked.
This worked for me. Hopefully it will work for you.

  • Unable to access Preference Pane! webpages corrupt!

For some odd reason, Safari will not load images and displays pages in a random mess. I am not able to access preferences either - autofill dialogue window appears in it's place.
Yes I did just to an update and then things all went wrong - I wish safari was as good as Firefox

In OS X Tiger, a small pill button can be found in the upper right corner of the Preference Panel. If you click on it, either the Preference Panel will expand or contract based on its existing appearance. Sounds like the Panel was set to its contracted state. Recreating the Preference file is one way to remedy the problem, as the default is the expanded state. The other way would have been to click on the pill button, which would have preserved your existing preference selections.
As you have reset your Preferences, make sure you reestablish any of your custom preferences both in the Preference Panels and in the View and Edit (spelling) menus. One last thing, if you open your Bookmarks Manager (command/option/B keys) you'll notice you have new Bookmark collections courtesy of the Preference reset. You can highlight/delete these if you don't want them.

    Is this still occurring?

  • Unable to access preferences pane

I downloaded Reader 9.3 on my PC and cannot open the preference pane under the edit tab.  Sound familliar?
I need to go to edit> preferences> Java Script and uncheck "Enable global object security policy" checkbox.  Thing is, the preference pane will not pop-up.  I tried deleting Java Script and downloaded the newest version.  I deleted Adobe and downloaded the reader 9.3 again.  I did the help> repair.  I even tried the ReadOutLoud.api.bak trick and rebooted but that did not work either.  Any other tricks to try?

  • Can't access Preferences in Safari 5.0.5

I have an older Mac Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.0.5. I've been unable to access Preferences in Safari--half the time the web page doesn't change, the other half the program crashes.
    Any ideas?

I'd try opening up any Music Project, or Podcast Episode (a garageband project) and trying it. However; I can access GB Prefs while not having a project open. Might be just you, or just me. Either way, try opening up a project.

  • User Preference Panes dimmed, unable to access...

I am "in charge" of our network which consists of 10 PowerMac G5s, an XServe and XRAID. We are currently running 10.4.6 throughout.
We are adding some WACOM tablets to a couple stations, but I have been unable to access the WACOM preference pane in the system preferences. The WACOM software creates a new row below the "System" row, and adds it's preference pane. When logged in as a user this pane is visible, but dimmed out. When I log in as root the preference becomes available, and I am able to tune the tablet.
I have used the latest driver, and have installed / uninstalled a few times. I have installed as root, and as a user with identical results as above.
The Workgroup Manager has NOT been configured to manage user preferences; there are three options that I see, "Never", "Once", and "Always"- "Never" is selected.
I am looking for a way to make the WACOM pane available to the user. Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Tried Repairing Permissions on the machine after installation?
I would have thought that installing as Root would be a bad idea (might cause permissions problems). An 'admin' user should be sufficient. Do 'plain' users have any restrictions set on them in their Accounts preferences?
It doesn't sound like it has anything to do with the server though, (if you are not using managed preferences). If you get no joy here (server forum) you might want to try the genera Tiger forum area.

  • Unable to access Login Items for Accounts in System Preferences

I've created an image for computers at my school. When I go into System Preferences>Accounts, and authenticate, I am unable to access the Login Items tab. The tab isn't grayed out or anything. It's just that when I click on it, nothing happens. It stays on the Password tab. The only way I can get out of it is to quit System Preferences. Any ideas?

If you are connecting to a OS X Server, make sure that you're not managing Login Items (Click on Preferences in WorkGroup Manager, then Login, then the Items tab). I had the same problem and setting that preference to Never solved it for me.

  • Unable to access any of the radio stations on iTunes

I have iTunes 10 and am unable to access any of the radio stations. I keep getting error messages to try again later and check my Internet connection (it is working fine). Any help would be appreciated!

    Photoshop version? Operating system?
Reinstalling might not have reset Preferences, so try that.

  • When i drag and drop an image on my site. it gives the following error. "Unable to access local files due to browser security settings. To overcome this, follo"

I am using the firefox version 17 and when i drag and drop an image on my website. It gives me the following error.
Unable to access local files due to browser security settings. To overcome this, follow these steps: (1) Enter "about:config" in the URL field; (2) Right click and select New->Boolean; (3) Enter "signed.applets.codebase_principal_support" (without the quotes) as a new preference name; (4) Click OK and try loading the file again. Or go to the homepage for a link to the tutorial on how to do it.
I have completed the above steps and it is still showing the same error message. Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Thanks kumars ,
I have a specific drag and drop area on our website. This works fine for all earlier releases of Firefox after these security settings
"(1) Enter "about:config" in the URL field; (2) Right click and select New->Boolean; (3) Enter "signed.applets.codebase_principal_support" (without the quotes) as a new preference name; (4) Click OK and try loading the file again."
Bust these settings not work for me in Firefox 17.
Yes the drag and drop functionality is java script based and i am not using any script blocker addons.

In Photoshop CS6, when I open the program, I am unable to access the tools.  I will not allow me to change from the hand tool.  Cannot zoom, cannot move with the hand icon that pops up.  I have restarted the program many times.  Using a Macbook Pro, 10.7.5

Then I would reset the preferences.  Start PS and immediatly hold down the cmd option and shift keys.  If fast enough you will get a reset window.

    This means?
This is fun BTW. Two days and two different silly errors applying themselves arbitrarily. Yesterday was the network, today its this.

heres the fix i used for on a Mac
    1. While in the Finder, select the menu command Finder > Preferences.
    2. In the General panel, ensure the option "Connected Servers" is selected under the heading "Show these items on the desktop:", then close the preferences dialog box.
    3. Choose the menu command Finder > Hide Others.
    4. Close all open Finder windows to ensure you can see all items on your desktop.
    5. If you locate what appears to be a mounted volume with the name "Users", Control + Click on its icon and choose the contextual menu command Eject "Users".
    6.  Add or update your article(s).
    7.  Cross fingers
    8. If doesn't work ask for a refund

  • I am unable to access my Bank website since upgrading to Mavericks (Safari 7)

I am unable to access my Bank website since upgrading to Mavericks (Safari 7)
I get the following error message in Safari before I even have the opportunity to
    connect to my bank's website.
It works fine in Firefox and Chrome.
    Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.tdbank.com/" on this server.
    Reference #18.a555ee3f.1382720248.13b74953

I experienced the same problem where by I could not log into my Nationwide Bank account when I had upgraded Safari to the latest Version before Mavericks 6.1.0 on OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5. I believe.
I already had Trusteer Rapport installed as recommended by banks.
Some Banks worked but Nationwide skipped the log in page and kept taking me to a page about Cookies telling me I needed to enable them but they were enabled. I just could not get into the Log In Page. Incidentally the Nationwides Cookies screen shot is of an out of date Cookies setting page - it is now under privacy in Safari preferences.
I then installed Rapport again when it popped up as an option and bingo I could get to the Log In page.
Took the plunge and upgraded last evening to Mavericks
Same probelm occured cannot Log In to Nationwide.
I have just stopped Trusteer Rapport and thank goodness I can get into Log On again.
However when I logged out and tried to open another site Safari crashed with the following error message
"safari quite unexpectedly while using trf.dylib plug-in"
Chose Reopen and safari opened Ok
I googled the message and that got me here - seems it is Trusteer Rapport
So someone needs to sort this out I guess Trusteer I guess?
    Hope this is helpful
    Cheers
