Unable to Access Settings Screen - Contacts Lost

I have an iPhone 5c 16GB. I updated to iOS 8.0.1 last week and there didn't seem to be any issues. My iPhone is backed up via iCloud on a daily basis through wifi in my apartment. This morning I woke up and saw that my contacts on my iPhone were all gone. I went into the settings screen because I wanted to make sure iCloud had backed them up. When I got into the iCloud screen I saw that contacts, notes, calendar etc. were now off, i.e. iCloud was not backing them up. The settings screen then went blank and I was back at the home screen. I turned off the power and restarted my phone and clicked on settings. The settings screen came on for one second and then defaulted back to the home screen. I could not access any of the settings. I logged into iCloud on my computer and saw that contacts were backed up from my address book but some of my notes were gone. The calendar was fine, though. There were none of my apps in my iCloud account.
I couldn't get a Genius Bar appt anywhere today so I went into the AT&T store. They played around with the phone but had no idea what happened. They suggested I take it to the Apple store. I was going to upgrade to the iPhone 6 next month anyways so I figured I would do that today. AT&T didn't have any iPhone 6 16GB in stock so I was told to come back during the week. They suggested I plug in my current iPhone into iTunes and sync it to see if I could get back the contacts. When I did that I was instructed to download iOS 8.0.2. I downloaded and installed it. I still had the same problem, though...the settings screen would not remain open. I created a vcard and PDF backup of my contacts (via web-version of iCloud) but some important notes from notepad were no longer there. They're not in iCloud and not on my iPad. I'm thinking that my iPhone is still backing up via iCloud but since contacts, notes, calendar, etc. were unchecked (how they got unchecked I have no idea), the backups are basically of nothing. When I get the iPhone 6 and want to set it up using my iCloud account I'm wondering if any of my contacts, apps, calendar, notes, etc. will be restored. Have I lost this information forever?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

It sounds like something is corrupted.
Just as a test, there's a way to open the settings wizard from the command line. For instance, this command would open XP Mode's settings from the default location:
vpcsettings.exe “C:\Users\[USERID]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Mode.vmc"
(replacing USERID with the correct user ID)
If that works, there is a way to reset the mappings.

• Unable to open Settings Mail, Contacts, Calendars

I'm unable to open Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars. It just reverts back to the home page every time I click on it. I've tried resetting everything, but I still have the same problem.

Thanks, Plimosoll. I also finally got to the Apple shop where they were very helpful, but lost some of my backup because I don't fully understand the system yet.
I asked what the so-called Genius in the shop had done. He told me he had done a DFU restore. This is not explained in any of the documentation provided by Apple, but is easily found using Google.
It's slightly annoying, as I tried to get this information from the phone help. I was told that as I bought the Ipad more than 90 days ago it would cost me GBP25 to answer my question. In the time that the person explained this, albeit cleary and politely, she could have just told me to Google DFU restore. Still, I suppose that is how Apple has made so much money.
Anyway this fix has opened up a whole new area for using my Ipad.

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

• XIpod Touch in death spiral - unable to access main screen

My daughter's Ipod Touch, 4th gen needs a version update, but I'm unable to synch it to my Mac for the upgrade as the Ipod memory space is full. I'm unable to access the Ipod main screens to delete apps to free space...the death spiral (blank screen w/the "thinking" circle) is all that appears. Any ideas to break it out of the death spiral to reboot?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

• My Mac Mini has a password and a wireless keyboard and mouse that have been working well with bluetooth until two days ago when my keyboard stopped responding. Since I have a password on Mac Mini, I am unable to access settings to pair Mac Mini. Thanks.

Can anyone help me pair my BT keyboard with my password protected Mac Mini? I am currently unable to log in to Mac Mini since the BT keyboard has become unpaired. The wireless mouse is working. I also have an I Pad and an I Phone as well as Mac TV.
Please help!!
Thank you.
Gail

I had exactly the same issue, that the Apple wireless keyboard became unpaired, and I couldn't get past the password-protected log-in screen, because I didn't have a wired keyboard laying around.
OK folks,
Discovered by trial and error that it was the wireless mouse (not an Apple brand) that was preventing the keyboard from pairing, even though it's not a bluetooth mouse...
Here's the steps I used...
1. Disconnected the USB mouse cord from the Mac Mini.
2. Turned off the Apple wireless keyboard from switch on the back.
3. Turn Mac Mini off, then back on.
4. Waited for it to boot up as far as the password-protected screen.
5. Turned on the Apple wireless keyboard, waited for it to stop blinking, indicating (hoping) that it paired up.
6. And voila... was able to then type in the password...
7. Then plugged the non-Apple wireless mouse sensor cord back into the Mac Mini's USB port
I also immediately went in to the MacMini's Sharing options and set that up for remote management in case something else happens down the road for other problems...
Thanks though to all who suggested solutions... they may come in handy in the future.
Hope this helps someone else...

• Wrt120n unable to access settings page

Hi - I'm desperate for help. Have a PS3 that will connect to my wrt120n if I unplug the modem and router then plug back in after 2 minutes. if I shut off my PS3 or after approx 1 hour, PS3 drops my connection. I'm trying to access my router page online but after entering the default into my browser, the pop up box will not accept any combo of entries to allow me access. I have an SSID name and my router is password protected. It does not connect me when I use any combo of user name or password or the default "admin". Any help would be appreciated.

Since you tried all possible combination of user name and password including the default one. So you need to reset the router.
Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 10 seconds, turn off the router wait for 10 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
Once you have successfully reset your router, you will need to reconfigure the network settings with all the new wireless settings as well.

• SMS -- unable to access SMS screen

For some reason, I get a blank screen after clicking on the SMS icon, even when I have several new messages. Any ideas how to resolve this? Many thanks

In general, when weird functional problems like this pop up, I recommend first turning the phone off then on. If that doesn't work, reset the phone. If that doesn't work, restore the phone. If that doesn't work, call Apple.
(FYI: Holding down the Sleep/Wake button and then sliding the red slider is not "resetting". That is turning the phone off. Resetting the phone is achieved by holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously for about 6-8 seconds until the screen first goes black and then the Apple logo appears.)

• WRT54G v5-Unable to access settings

Hey Y'all. New guy here. My router quit on me. Power light is blinking and all Ethernet lights are lit even if nothing is plugged into the ports. Internet light is also lit. From my reading it appear that the router needs a firmware upgrade. I downloaded the proper bin file for my router and saved it to my desktop. Problem is the router will not let me into the settings area. 192.168.1.1 sends me to a search engine page or an error page. Any help would be appreciated. TIA Jake

If your power light is blinking its a good chance its dead. There is a fix but I dont advise it because you can definately destroy the router. How old is it? Can you return it to the store? If you dont care just send me a PM and I will tell you what it is. But I would call Linksys RMA department and tell them whats going on and have them replace it with a new one. No need to go crazy trying to figure out whats wrong in the sametime it takes to get a new one.

iCloud backup is unable to access my account, because email I used for iCloud account is been deleted. And my iPad is stuck with this note on a screen, can't go Settings. How do I delete or edit my iCloud account?

You can eirther I think go on ITunes or if you can get to settings you would just go to iCloud.

I am not able to access the "Settings" on my iPad 3. I just get a gray screen for about 30 seconds and then the app shuts down. I am also unable to access the App store, iTunes, or any app requiring an internet connection. Any thoughts?

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

• Lenovo G50-30 Unable to access BIOS settings after Windows recovery

Hi
I recently 'downgraded' a recently purchased Lenovo G50-30 with preinstalled Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 using a UEFI USB install on a GPT partition. I also updated the BIOS from A7CN40WW to the latest A7CN43WW and all was working fine. However, after performing a necessary restore of an system image created using the Windows 7 backup and restore tool, I am suddenly unable to access the BIOS settings, either with the novo button (I do get the menu to select BIOS) or with Fn +F2. All that happens is that I receive a blank screen with a static cursor in the upper left corner. I can however still access the boot menu Fn +F12. This is a particular pain as I obviousl can't select USB 3.0 in BIOS.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I managed to clear CMOS by disassembling and desoldering a leg off the the RTC battery but to no avail. The problem seems to be that BIOS a7cn43ww itself has somehow been corupted. In theory this should be able to be resolved by a reflash. The trouble here is there seems to be no way to reflash with a current or previous BIOS version, so I'll have to either wait for a newer version or someone may know better.
C'mon Lenovo support this simply isn't good enough. It's a brand new laptop and I'm considering returning it for a refund.

• With this latest update (on 4/10/15) I am unable to access a secured work website due to the TLS. How do I revert back to the previous settings?

I need to revert the security settings back to the way they were BEFORE the update because now I am unable to access my secured work website (that I was on yesterday) to actually do work. When I attempt to go to my log-in page I get the following message:
Secure Connection Failed
The connection to corect.ct.gov:10000 was interrupted while the page was loading.
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
It doesn't even give me the option to allow the site (it is my computer after all, it should be my choice). I NEED TO GET TO THIS WEBSITE.

The website may try to fallback to TLS 1.0 in a way that is no longer allowed in current releases or may be using a deprecated cipher suite.
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar and use its search bar to locate this pref:
*security.tls.insecure_fallback_hosts
You can double-click the line to modify the pref and add the domain (corect.ct.gov) to this pref.
If there are already websites (domains) in this list then add a comma and the new domain (no spaces).
You should only see domains separated by a comma in the value column.
