Unable to access USB hard drive connected to EA3500 router

WD essential 2GB hard drive connects OK through cisco connect but when I click on the shortcut or try to access the drive I get access denied duer to permission to the ip address

tried with firwall off and tried manually mapping but in both cases no luck. The drive appears in the GUI and I can create new folders on the drive. So it seems the rout recognizes the device but the PC does not want to recognize the drive. Seems something like the security or login access on the PC (XP). Tried creating new login id exactly the same on PC as the router with same password but the PC does not recognize the access.

  • Accessing a USB hard drive connected to a AEBS from Windows XP SP2

Hi everybody my problem is this, I am using the AEBS. I have an iMac G5 and a Sony vaio laptop running Windows XP SP2. After some initial problems both connect to the Internet and if I attach a USB printer to the AEBS both allow you to print remotely however if I attach an external hard drive only the iMac can access it. The airport disk agent for Windows pops up that a disk has become available but when you try to access it you get an alert message that says, “unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype login information or contact the disk’s administrator.” If you click on the preferences in Airport Disk, in Windows, no disk is visible although the disk is visible in the Airport Utility! I have tried different hard drives and all the different settings in the Airport Utility for accessing a USB hard drive connected to the AEBS and get the same message regardless. HELP1

    Hi John,
My hard drive is already formatted to fat 32. If I "check disks" in AirPort Utillity in windows it see's the disk and knows how much free and used space there is on it. It also knows when I'm accessing the disk from my iMac but when I try to connect to the hard drive from windows I just get the error message in my first post. When I click on AirPort Disk in windows my base station name doesn't appear, it does on my mac. I tried you suggestion but it hasn't helped. Thanks anyway. If you've got any other suggestion i'll gladly give them a try.
    Thanks again.

  • Can't see contents of USB hard drive connected to Time Capsule

Hi. I have a USB hard drive connected to my Time Capsule (which I just got today). I just want to use it as a shared drive, so that the users in my home can use it to access common files (media files, stuff like that).
The TC's set up is to enable file sharing with accounts. AirPort Disk Guest Access is not allowed.
When I authenticate as a user via Finder I can see the disk, see that disk space has been used, but can't see the contents. I'm guessing this is because the files that are actually on there belong to some other user.
Is my guess right? Any suggestions as to how we can all use it as a transfer drive?
    Col

Fixed it. I connected the USB drive directly to my computer, and dragged the folder into the 'Shared' folder, which Time Capsule had created. The original folder is now visible, which is what I wanted!

  • How do I view a file from a usb hard drive connected to my airport extreme base station on my ipad 2?

    Hi,
I just purchased the airport extreme base station.  I have a usb hard drive connected to the base station.  Is it possible to view this hard drive on my ipad 2?  I have been unable to do it.  Any help would be appreciated.

You can't, not natively. An app like FileBrowser:
    http://www.stratospherix.com/products/filebrowser/
    may make this possible, though.
    Regards.

  • I can not access the hard drive connected to my airport extreme!  Any thoughts?

I can not access the hard drive connected to my ariport extreme.  When I use the finder to connect a server and type in the IP of the a. extreme, 10.0.1.1 it does not work and I get an error message.
    Any thoughts.

Is the hard drive formatted for Mac in Mac OS Extended (Journaled)?
If yes, you may need to use a powered USB hub since the USB port on the AirPort Extreme is under powered and it is often necessary to use a powered hub....even if the hard drive has its own power supply
If both items check out above.....have you checked Finder Preferences to make sure that "Connected Servers" will be displayed?
Finder Preferences > General > Show These Items on the Desktop > Connected Servers
Then with the Finder menus displayed at the top of the screen click the Go menu
Click Network and the AirPort Extreme icon should be displayed
Double click the icon to mount the drive on the desktop

  • I can't access my USB network drive connected to my router.

I have a G5 that I was running Tiger, and could easily access a usb network drive connected to my router. As soon as I upgraded to Leopard, I sporadically get access, but usually not.
I just purchased an iMac with Snow Leopard and then upgraded to Lion, but I have never had access to this drive.
I can't get access with either Mac now, but I have no problem accessing the drive from a PC on the same home network, so I know the drive is connected properly, and is working properly.
Any thoughts how to access this drive from my Macs?

Let's say that the name of your drive is Hard Drive
Check using AirPort Utility to get the IP address of your AirPort Extreme, for example you see that it is 10.0.1.1
You'll need to know the device name for the AirPort Extreme. This is not the wireless password, it's the device password.
On the PC, open My Computer
Click on Tools and select Map Network Drive.
Select the drive you want, "Z" for example
On the next line for Folder, type in
    \\10.0.1.1\Hard Drive
    Click Finish
    Type in your user name
Type in the device password for the AirPort Extreme

  • HT204057 Time machine back up via USB hard drive connected to Airport Extreme.

Why did Apple stop supporting time machine back-up via USB hard drive connected to Airport Extreme?  It worked very well.

Why did Apple stop supporting time machine back-up via USB hard drive connected to Airport Extreme?
Time Machine backups are supported via USB hard drive connected to the AirPort Extreme"ac" version.
Time Machine backups were not supported via USB hard drive connected to earlier versions of the AirPort Extreme.
Some users who tried this on earlier version AirPort Extremes seemed to have some success with Time Machine backups....some had moderate success and some had no success with this. Count me in the "no success" category.
See the topic about Time Machine support for USB disks in this Apple Support document:

  • How do I access external hard drive connected to AirPort Extreme via iPad

    Hello,
How do I access external hard drive connected to AirPort Extreme via iPad / windows laptop.
I donot have a Mac and I use windows laptop.

For your iPad, you will need an app, like FileBrowser, to access the external drive.
For your Windows laptop, you would access the drive like any other network share. The basic format is: \\<servername>\<sharename>, where, in this case, the servername is the base station name and the sharename is the name of the external drive.

  • Does Time Capsule hard drive sleep?  Do USB hard drives connected sleep?

Hello - I have an AEBS (1st generation) with a NewerTech miniStack connected to it. The miniStack never sleeps, even after applying the new firmware and software yesterday.
So now I am thinking about buying a Time Capsule, but have questions about hard drive sleeping.
    2 questions:
    1. Does the Time Capsule internal hard drive ever sleep?
    2. Does an external USB hard drive connected to a Time Capsule ever sleep?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Airport Extreme usb hard drive connection loss after closing finder window

I just did a software update on my MacBook Pro and now I am experiencing a weird Airport Extreme usb hard drive issue. I can see the name of my airport extreme in the Shared section of my finder window. However when I click on it, the finder indicates the it's connecting, but it stops immediately and displays the 'Not Connected' message. When I click on the 'Connect As' button, I am prompted to enter my password and if I click 'Connect', it just spins out endlessly. However, when I re-enter the password and press Connect, my usb drive mounts. I can view, access and use the drive's contents, but if I close the finder window, the connection drops and I have to re-connect. What else is weird, is that once I see my drives, the finder indicates that I am connected as another user(not a user native to this computer). This issue did not exist before my software update.
My software log update indicates that the following items have been installed:
Canon Printer Software Update 2.3 and Security Update 2010-003.
I suspect it has something to do with the Security Update. Is there a way I can revert to the previous security version? Or is there any other solution that could help me avoid re-connecting to my airport extreme usb hard drives?
I will really appreciate any feedback.

    Free Solution:
Sure there's a »fix« with Apple software. You'll need to install the Developer Tools (Xcode) from the Snow Leopard Install DVD, though.
After you've done that, you can use "SetFile" to clear the Alias bit from the misbehaving Volume:
    /usr/bin/SetFile -a a /Volumes/<YourExternalDriveName>
Please keep in mind that using this command might be dangerous, so don't try this solution unless you feel confident on the command line. (See http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/m an1/SetFile.1.html or invoke /usr/bin/SetFile without arguments for more info on the SetFile command.)

  • WRT350N USB Hard Drive Connection

I've got my WRT350N router setup and it works great with wireless/wired connection to my laptop (running XP).  I just got a USB hard drive, but am having trouble connecting it to my router, I'm just not sure how to do it.  In the web setup utility, I know the router sees it cause under the STORAGE->DISK tab, it shows details of my drive (80gb, NTFS).  I read thru the manual, but it doesn't really say how to configure it (or at least I'm not seeing it). I also tried mapping the drive, but kinda wasn't sure what folder to point to, as the drive didn't show up as an option.  I'm lost.......Can anyone please help me?

access the router's web ui and go to the "storage" tab , click on the "share" subtab ... create a new share for a particular partition ... then modify the share access
go to the " administration" subtab and ensure that the workgroup name is the same as that on your other computers ...

  • XP sp3 cannot see usb hard drive connected to airport extreme 802.11n

I have a sata drive that the airport utility recognizes. I attempted to follow the instructions from post HT1331 but no luck yet. I also reformatted the drive from ntfs to fat32 using vista but with the same result.
I found another post while writing this one which solved my problem. It turns out how I formatted the drive wasn't usable by AEBS.
Connecting Large USB Hard Drives to Airport Extreme
I needed to format the drive using the instructions found below.
    http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm
After doing this and plugging in the drive I was able to use the drive intended. Since I had started the post I figured I would list the solution.
    Cheers!

I don't think two problem are related. Now, for PC, try to disable the firewall software if you ave one. Some firewall can block it, like for ex PC Tools firewall, or ZonaAlarm. Some of them you can configure to work with disk agent.

  • Usb hard drive connection

have inherited a firewire stingray 800 external hard drive. connects via USB 2.0, and has 250 GB capacity. anyone with experience connecting this device (or similar) to Ultra Enterprise 4000 or SunFire V880 server? running Solaris 8 on both servers. Not certain if kernel supports FireWire storage devices. Product site mentions Linux support briefly, but not Solaris.
Can it be simply use the mount command just as you
would for a SCSI device? Any help appreciated.

Connecting the device as an USB HDD should work with Solaris 8 (or newer).
You should make sure to install the latest USB framework patch, for Solaris 8 this is 109896-22. Btw. the patch
adds USB 2.0 support; you have to use an USB 2.0 PCI controller to make use of the increased USB 2.0
transfer speed. I'm not sure if your server already supports USB 2.0 ports.
After hotplugging the USB HDD, you should be able to find new device nodes in /dev/rdsk and /dev/dsk. Use
something like "ls -l /dev/dsk | grep storage" to find the device name for the USB HDD. You can write a
standard SunOS disk label to the device, partition it, create filesystems on it and mount them. For exchanging
data with other operating systems you can also create fdisk partitions on the USB HDD and a "pcfs" filesystem
(MSDOS FAT filesystem) in such an fdisk partition.
Solaris currently does not have mass storage device drivers for firewire HDDs.

  • Access external hard drive connected to Airport Extreme USB via Windows & Mac

I have an Airport Extreme and I would like to connect an external hard drive to it via USB so that I can backup pictures, music, documents etc. I need to be able to see the external hard drive from my windows PC. I eventually will be buying a Mac so I would like to be able to also get to my pictures and documents via the MAC as well.
I currenlty have an iPhone, iPad and Apple TV so getting to the external drive from these devices would be a huge bonus also if that is possible.
I recently bought an ioSafe Solo External Hard Drive and I had to return it because it was only formatted for the PC. When I plugged it into my Airport Extreme, I could see the drive via the Airport Disk Utility but I could not see it from my PC and I could not map a drive to it. When I contacted ioSafe support, they said that what I was trying to do was not possible since I did not have a MAC available to me to reformat the drive.
I hope that I am not trying to accomplish the impossible because I will always need to live in a MAC/PC world.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

You must know people with Macs.. it is 2min work to plug a USB drive into a Mac Laptop and format it Mac OS extended with a quick format.. And that is better IMHO than buying a utility or buying a pre-formatted drive which are often more expensive for no very good or obvious reason.
Another option is a Linux boot disk.. Linux distributions have very similar command line tools to the Mac OS. (some are identical) and HFS+ has been available for ages in Linux.

  • How do I access my hard drive connected to airport extreme?

I've already imported video to my hard drive. I had it previously connected via firewire. It's there in an imovie 08. However, when I open up imovie in the "Event Library" panel, my hard drive has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point on it. Does anyone know how I can access this?
Do I have to choose "import" first and then copy the movie back into imovie? I think this would defeat the purpose of storing the footage on the external drive, right? I'm trying to make my first movie, so please be gentle if this is an easy question to answer. It's throwing me for a loop right now.
    Thanks again!

sorry, the hard drive is connected via USB to my airport extreme. Here's how i can look at the files:
Macintosh HD, under "shared" i select my hard drive, open it and then click on imovie events, then i can access the 19 different folders which contain multiple clips in each folder, along with an imovie thumbs file etc.
However, in imovie when create a new project, then click on import, it will ask me where i want to save the files, and on the drop down arrow, the only choice is my macintosh HD and I can't choose anything else. I really don't want to save them to my computer's hard drive if i don't have to. It seems there should be an easier way to do this, but i'm overlooking something. I just want to be able to make a movie with the clips that are already saved on my hard drive which is connected via airport extreme. Thanks again!
