Unable to activate iMessage account

So I just used the warranty on my iPod touch because the home button was not working. It had iMessage that i used QUITE frequently. All of my friends have that email address to talk to me. With the new iPod I recieved because of the warrantee I can enter my Apple ID and sign in but when I try to verify, something pops up that says ""unable to verify email because it is already in use." Is there any way to get rid of this or some way I can keep the same email address?

    Activating iMessage & FaceTime require a valid messaging plan. If your carrier is blocking the activation messages, you won't be able to activate these services.

  • Unable to Activate iMessage on MacPro after adding new SSD

    Just added a SSD to my Mac Pro - wonderful speed-up having only System, Apps Library and User Folders on the drive!
    Using Mountain Lion v 10.8.4
    But Messages v 7.0.1 will no longer work.
    On opening, it asks me to Enter Apple ID to activate iMessage.
    It has pre-populated the Apple ID with my email address but when I enter the Password, it goes into cog-wheel mode and, after a delay, responds that it is unable to sign in asking me to check my network connection (it is working great for Mail, Safari etc)
    I have double-checked the password (the same one allows me to enter the Apple Store and is effective on my Mac Book Pros. my iPhone & my iPad).
    I used Clean My Mac to remove Messages (and its many folders), reinstalled Mountain Lion from a start-up flash drive I created, updated the system software and found a pristine version 7.0.1 of Messges in the Applications Folder.
    But I still have the same problem.

    This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are many possible causes for it. Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Before proceeding, test on another network, if possible. That could be a public Wi-Fi hotspot, if your computer is portable, or a cellular network if you have a mobile device that can share its Internet connection. If you find that iMessage works on the other network, the problem is in your network or at your ISP, not in your computer.
    Step 1
    Check the status of the service. If the service is down, wait tor it to come back up. There may be a localized outage, even if the status indicator is green.
    Step 2
    Restart your broadband device and your router, if different. You may have to skip this step if you don't control those devices.
    Step 3
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ About This Mac
    Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or obviously invalid, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.
    Step 4
    Back up all data, then take the steps suggested in this support article.
    There are five steps in that article. Please take all of them. If you don't understand some of the steps or can't carry them out, ask for guidance.
    Step 5
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
    If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If any proxy options are selected, make a note of them and then deselect them. You don’t need to change the bypass or FTP settings. Click OK and then Apply. Test. The result may be that you can't connect to any web server. Restore the previous settings if that happens.
    Step 6
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Step 7
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    If iMessage worked in the guest account, stop here and post your results.
    Step 8
    Boot in safe mode and log in. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and test again.
    If iMessage worked in safe mode, but didn't work when you booted out of safe mode, stop here and post your results.
    Step 9
    According to one anecdotal report, Flash Player may interfere with iMessage, though I don't know how and can't confirm. To test this theory, select from the menu bar
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Storage
    and click
    Block all sites from storing information on this computer
    Close the preference pane. If this action solves the problem, please post your results.
    Step 10
    Reinstall OS X.
    Step 11
    If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or contact Apple Support.

    Hey i am unable to activate my imessage .... whenever i go to settings -> messages -> "on "imessage ->  it says " An error occured during activation. Try again " ...... plzzz help !!

  • Unable to activate iMessage and FaceTime on my current number

    Hi all.
    I have an iPhone 5, I've changed from my Spanish SIM to my English SIM. Now keep getting the activation errors when I try to activate iMessage and FaceTime. It activates to my apple id emails, but my phone number appears dimmed and not ticked. I have tried all the methods I've found online: activating and disactivating, switching my iPhone on and off too, reseting, restoring, changing my apple id password, updating my old number under my apple id to my new one. Nothing has worked. Then I tried to send an iMessage to myself, and I discovered that my number that iMessage can be sent to is my old Spanish number, although the number that appeared under iMessage send and receive is my English one. So I have just tried my Spanish SIM. And iMessage and FaceTime have been activated instantly with my Spanish number. I dis activated again both and put back my English SIM. Now, if I try to activate iMessage and FaceTime, I still get the activation errors, but the number that appears dimmed and not ticked is my Spanish one.
    Quite annoying, and I can't seem to be able to find where the mistake is.

    Have you tried taking out the sim card and iMessaging using the phone on Wi-Fi only? If it still is an issue then the sim card has nothing to do with it and you would most likely have to do a wipe by Erasing all content and Settings.
    Since you had the phone unlocked and it was activated already with one number... In order to remove that number, so that it doesn't keep being an issue, is to do a full reset. This will allow you to go through the activation process again with the new number being selected for iMessaging if you set up the phone using cellular connection.
    I know this is most likely not the easy solution you were seeking but to be honest... Sometimes starting fresh is a good thing . Good luck sir!

  • Iphone 5 restore bug - unable to activate imessage or facetime

    I have the iphone 5 and it will activate imessage and facetime if i treat it like a new device. If i try to lod a backup from itunes or icloud it wont activate imessage or facetime. Ive tried everything and i just wont work. Hard reset, different networks, different backups etc...  I was upgrading from a iphone 4.  I even updated the old phone ios then backed it up. Then tried to restore the new iphone from that backup and it didnt help
    Apple support does not have any solutions. They said it is a glitch and i need to just use the phone as a new phone. Which i was not happy with
    Pretty much have to just give up the data from my old phone. :(

    I found the fix for the error. Took me a few different tries but I got it to work. You have to completely reset your phone( erase all contect and settings) and set it as a, "new phone". I advise you to copy all the information that you want/need onto iCloud first. After I did this my facetime and imessage worked perfectly! Hope this helps.
    On a side note as well your contacts won't be erased either but save them on iCloud just in case.

    Listen I'm a bit new to iPad but learning fast  my problemis trying to sign in to iMessage ,trying to activate it ,I have never sign inn before went to settings as they sey on YouTube but nothing seems to work it looks like. Bug error cuz everytime I try to sign inn it just sends me automatically to the selection of the email address and after a few seconds it sends me back to the sign in step again and again .....  I tried with another password a wrong one just to see what happens and it says wrong password but when I put the right one it just sends me back to sign in without explaining what happens.... And I'm fully connected  to the internet tried everything ........

  • Anyone: Messages App unable to activate iCloud account.

    Within the last twenty minutes, one second I send a message, next second it no longer works.  Only with Messages is there a problem while every where else it works; and I have tried changing my password with no effect.
    When I try to activiate my account it says:
    Could Not Sign Into iMessage: The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later.
    This has been working with no problems on my MacBook Pro since I bought it over a year ago, and it was literaly between key presses that it stopped working.

    There was an outstanding update to OSX Mountain Lion which I had not installed - too many projects going on.  Anyway. once this was done, I had to completely login from scratch, at which point I recieved notifications (via my iPhone) that the account had been made active on my computer - not unlike it did when I first enabled it some time last year.
    The update was at least a week old if not two, but Messages had continued working until Monday.  Too me this infers there was a recent change server side which required the patch to be installed.
    Hope this helps anyone who has this issue and hasn't already figured it out on their own.

    A few days ago I noticed that I couldn't send messages through iMessage from my Mac. I got around to updating everything and it still doesn't work. I openned the preferences and went to accounts, and chose to Enable this account, the thingy has just been spinning for a few days. Anyone have any assistance, perhaps had a similar problem?

    I just signed out and signed in again, and it worked now. Funny. I tried that the other day and nothing hapenned. Oh well. Thanks for your time.

    I bought a new iphone 5c, and although I am able to send texts, I am not receiving them on the iphone.  I am, however receiving them on my ipad.  When attempting to sign in to imessaging on the new iphone, it is not accepting my apple ID and is asking for me to check my network settings.

    Assuming your apple id is the same one you use in these forums, you should be having no problems. If your apple id is an email address, make sure you enter the entire thing including the @domain.com part.
