Unable to activate iPhone 5

I ordered my iPhone 5 through apple the first day it was available and I finally received it in the mail today. While trying to activate it I encountered that the number that was synced with the phone was not my number. The screen instructed me to contact AT&T and Apple about the issue. While in a conference call with apple and AT&T the first thing they did to try and fix it was deactivate my old phone. Next thing I know, my phone I am using no longer works (and they later stated that it could not be reactivated). As I use my cell phone as my primary phone I was forced to using skype to call them back. They sent me the right model of the phone but they made an error in shipping and the phone they sent me was actually switched with someone else's. I was told to fix this I needed to go into an apple store and exchange the phone. Unfortunately the reason I ordered it in the mail in the first place is there is no apple store anywhere near where I live. I explained to them that this was really not a possibility. After 4 hours of being on the phone I lost count of how many supervisors I had been transferred to and eventually they transferred me to someone who had no information on the case but suggested I should mail it back to them and then they will place an order for a new phone. They also suggested that I pay for expedited shipping if I want to receive a phone in a more timely manner and that they are sorry for the inconvenience that I am without any phone for 10+ days.
Has anyone else experienced this issue with receiving the wrong phone and if so has anyone received a better outcome?

Were you running iOS 7 beta?  If so, as a developer you need to log into the Developer forum for assistance.

    Where did you get it from? I would suggest to try and connect your phone to your computer with iTunes and try restoring.

    I was recently given an I-Phone 3 GS by my daughter in law.  The phone had not been used for several months and was naturally dead.   I bought a charger and was able to charge the phone successfully but am unable to configure the phone and activate it via i-tunes.   The phone had an Orange network SIM card in it which, i was advised may have been deactivated during the months of non usage.   I was also advised to buy a new Orange PAYG sim to see if that worked but still unable to get the phone activated.
    The phone displays no service message so does not appear to recognise the Orange SIM, also on first attempt to activate with new SIM i received message stating that the "pairing information was not found".  Since then just get "unable to activate iphone at this time" message from i-tunes.
    Is anyone able to offer any advice or am i flogging a dead horse with this phone?

    Not sure if it has ever been modified before, i'll have to ask my daughter in law.
    i'm not familiar with iphone(i have htc, for shame:-))  Cydia?   i can get no further than entering language, country and WiFi connection before it trys then fails to activate.

    Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
    hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
    original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
    carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
    if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
    Where did you acquire this iPhone?
    What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
    Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
    What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

  • Unable to Activate iPhone 5s for Sprint in store pick up

    I was one of the lucky few who preordered the iPhone 5S at BestBuy.com, but when I came in to the store to pick it up, the employees were unable to activate the phone. Sprint had a notice posted on the Best Buy register about an issue with invalid IMEI numbers and that the problem was being fixed ASAP. Hours have passed and I haven't been able to find out anything new. I had to leave my phone at the Best Buy and was told to try back later.
    Does anyone know if the issue has been fixed yet?

        Hello willreinking! I am sorry to hear that you're having issues getting your phone activated. The first thing to do is to make sure that the SIM card number has been updated on your account, so your device is able to program. You can update it on My Verizon. http://bit.ly/xB4iTc  If it's correct, the next step is to remove/reinsert the SIM card to start the activation again. Please let us know if this continues, so we can get it fixed for you.

    thanks .  i am a  registered developer and the phone is registered appropriately for the beta .  the beta had expired today which i failed to notice. my bad. 
    i was unable to restore or backup or update the software   earlier because "find my iphone  " was active for my phone . i had to remove the phone from from the 'find my device" list on icloud .
    then i had to  start it in recovery mode . and download latest software into itunes . and then restore  it and my latest backup  .
    Im fine now .

  • Unable to activate iPhone / Stuck in iTunes

    Hey guys,
    hopefully you are able to help me with this.
    Got the old iPhone 4 from my father. I set it all up and everything looked fine except that the iPhone can't connect to my carrier (it says "no service" and is not even searching). So I contacted my carrier this morning to check if my new SIM-Card is activated - It is according to them (I'm not able to check the SIM-Card in another phone).
    My next step was to do a backup, restore the iPhone and hope that it'll just work.
    After connecting the iPhone to iTunes (11.1.3.8 on a PC) it now says "Activate iPhone - This iPhone is currently linked to an Apple ID xxx (the Apple ID I set up yesterday on the phone and NOT the one my father used!). Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this phone". Perfect, I thought, despite I was wondering that I'm getting this message now (First time connecting this iPhone to iTunes I was able to get to the normal syncing options where I can restore and check for updates etc.)
    After typing the correct Apple ID and pw, iTunes is displaying "Connecting to iTunes store" for a few seconds and gets back to the screen where it wants me to enter my Apple ID and pw. I'm not getting any errors.
    It is no problem to connect to the iTunes Store via iTunes. iCloud is also working perfectly.
    Any ideas why I can't get through the activation process in iTunes?
    ... or any suggestions how to solve this annoying problem?

    Kagey....  I figured it out.   In iTunes...under "devices"...where it is supposed to say the name of the phone "Dan's iPhone".  I just kept clicking in the blank space where the name was supposed to be and it finally gave me an option to type the name in.   You have to find the "magic pixel".  Keep trying....it'll work.  I was persistent...

    I bought a developer account, and installed the ios 7 beta. Everything went good and my phone was okay, until one day i decided to downgrade to ios 6.1.3
    because beta 7 was using much more of the battery than ios 6.1.3. When I had restored my Iphone on ios 6.1.3 i turned it back on but when I came to the activation screen it told me I had to put in my apple id to activate, so I did that but it didn´t work! So tried updating it back to ios7 but than I also had to put in my apple ID! And it doesnt work there eather. Does anyone know what I can do? please help

  • Unable to activate iPhone 3GS after IOS 5 upgrade

    Hi: I was prompted by iTunes to upgrade my iphone 3GS to IOS 5. I didn't "steal" or did anything illegal. I have upgraded my iPhone software many times before through iTunes and never had any problems. So naturally I clicked "download and upgrade". Little did I know what trouble I got myself into. I'm not able to activate my iphone, and since I am overseas, I don't use my phone for everything except making calls, the phone is locked so I can't use any foreign sim card. I am very angry at Apple for doing something like that. Since I rely my iphone for all communications. Why would they ask me to upgrade then not allow me to activate my phone??????? This is not the first time Apple does something like that. Owning an Apple product should be headache free since we are paying a premium for it. But the reality is far from it.
    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Unable to activate iPhone 4S using Apple ID after back up/restore

    Hello everyone.
    I was having trouble with syncronizing my iPhone so I thought it would be best to back it up & restore it back to it's factory settings.
    Once this was complete I was back to basics... As if I had only just turned the phone on for the first time.
    However when i went to log in usng my original Apple ID (which it asks for during inital set up) it tells me that my
    "username cannot be used to activate this iphone"
    I am now stuck without a phone and I cannot find a way to access it again.
    I can't even access the iCloud because it tells me I need to set it up on my iPhone first (which I have done previously but I still cannot proceed)
    I desperately need some help.
    Every solution I have seen & tried so far is no good, and I have seen mention that once this "lockout" has occurred... There's no way back into the phone
    Someone please help me out!
    Note: I am the one & only owner of this iPhone 4S

    Sprint does not use SIM cards.  Their devices connect via CDMA to the Sprint network.
    They can only be unlocked for International use by Sprint.
    Sounds like for some silly reason you purchased a Sprint phone with no intention of ever using on it Sprint's network.  Okay...that's not silly, it's just plain dumb.
    Only Sprint can unlock the device and they will only do so for customers in good standing.

    The message means the sim you're trying to activate your phone with is not from the carrier your phone is locked to.

    Both my iphone and ipad displayed a message saying the the software is out of date and the device must be activated.   But I cannot activate either one.   I just keep recieving a message saying, "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable."  I have been trying for about an hour now.

    The system currently is down, the best method is restore and update from itunes. Otherwise you should wait for the server to get back up. I already had my ipad activated, and then when the activation server went down, it caused my ipad to go down too, so I'm probably going to just wait till tomorrow.
