Unable to add canon irc printer

Hi There,
I am looking for some advice. I have a client who has recently purchased an imac running Leopard v10.6. I have added this machine to their domain and set everything up. No problems - considering it is in Malta and I am in Scotland. They have one printer, a canon irc 2380 which they require to be able to print from. I have added this printer using both lpd and ipp, both times the printer is added successfully. When I try to print something using ipp method, the print appears to go but nothing actually comes out the printer. When I try using the lpd method, it asks for authentication? I am currently working on trying to get to its config page to try and enable bonjour but would like some assistance as to why these other methods haven't worked. What am I doing wrong? I doubt that the wrong driver has been installed as I got it from canon directly.
Thanks in advance - Kirsty

Hello Kirsty. If it is the UFR2 driver you have installed, then first of all you do need to use LPD for the protocol. IPP is not supported with this driver.
So with the LPD connection and the authentication, this could be two things.
If you are printing via a Windows shared queue then it can be a Windows authentication pop-up. Entering this users domain account and password is usually enough to allow printing, however if it is the UFR2 driver being used it does not play well with this type of connection. You would be best to configure the Mac to print directly to the iR C2380.
If you do have the Mac configured to print directly to the copier then the other authentication you can get is the built-in Department ID function, where an ID and password needs to be entered to permit printing. Many owners of the colour iR use this system to control colour usage. You can check if the copier has this enabled by entering its IP address into a browser. This will open the internal web page called Remote UI (RUI). If Dept ID management is enabled then you often need to enter an ID and password to get past the login window that you would be presented with. If entering the IP into the browser opens the RUI without entering a password then Dept ID is not enabled, but you can check by selecting the Add Functions button on the left sidebar of the RUI and then opening System Preferences.
If Dept ID is enabled then the ID and password can be entered via the Special Features menu of the driver. This also provides the function to check that the ID/pwd to be used is set in the copier.
Re Bonjour, the Canon imageRUNNER series do not support Bonjour. They do if they have the optional Fiery print controller attached, rather than using the internal Canon board. I think this model would use the imagePASS-J1 so the connection to the internal web page of the copier would show if this is fitted.
Hope this helps for starters...

  • Unable to add Lion compatible printer Canon iP4500

    Hello.
Having problem to re-install my Canon iP4500 printer. It was running well for years, but I had some issues (USB cable disconnected was the problem ) and deleted the printer to re-install it, all in System Preferences.
The problem is that when trying to add it as a new printer, the system states that "Apple has new software for your printer, do you want to download & install it". Well, yes of course. It then tries to download the driver, but always fails, stating the server is not available, please contact your hardware vendor for the latest driver / software". (Internet is working fine, allowing to post this, for example)
So, done that, downloaded and installed the latest canon driver for the iP4500, "Successfully". The printer still does not show up as an available printer, though it is still selectable to install, then starting the procedure again (Apple has software....no it is not available, contact Canon...).
How can I install the printer???
    Thanks...

So, downloaded the latest Apple software for Canon printers, which installed successfully, but the printer is not available. Trying to add it yet again in System Preferences, Print & Scan, only gives the download & install option, then the error message "The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software."
How can I tell the Add Printer in Lion that I already have the software, both from Apple and Canon...???
    Thanks....

  • Unable to load Canon MP160 printer driver

I've had the hardest time using my Canon MP160 printer on my iMac (Mac OS 10.5). In fact, I'm not able to print at all.
I have the printer connected via USB. It always has been. However, it only stopped working recently.
I downloaded the drivers for the printer and scanner from Canon's web site. However, when I attempt to load the printer driver, the "Installing Canon IJ Printer Driver" window appears. It gets to the "Finishing Installation" part in the process. But it "hangs" at some point and does not complete. I've tried it twice. It hung at two different points in the process. I tried letting it run overnight. That was no good.
I've also looked for the "Printer Setup Utility" and can't seem to find that anyplace. I'm wondering why I can't find that.
If anybody could help me solve this, I'd be so thankful.

Hello marconi10. Welcome to the HP Forums. I understand you are unable to install your printer on one computer, over a wireless connection. I'm going to suggest a very simple workaround, which if it works, will remove any complicated troubleshooting that would be necessary:
Please try installing the printer with a USB connection. If this does not work, you know that there is an issue occurring with the computer.
If this does work, the printer will be successfully installed. At that point, you can change the connection type from USB to wireless. For more information on how to do this, please reference this HP document: Convert from a USB connected printer to wireless
If the printer will still not connect wireless, this will point out a computer issue. For additional information and troubleshooting, relating to the inability of installing the printer over a wireless network, please reference this HP document: 'Unable to Find Printer' Error Message Displays on the Computer During Wireless Network Installation
Please respond with the results of your troubleshooting. I'm only here to help!

  • Unable to add a new printer in 10.5.7 - dialog box "quits"

Every time I try to add a new printer via System Preferences-->Print&Fax, the dialog box showing available printers briefly opens, and then quits. As a result, I am currently unable to add any new printers.
    Help?? Thank you...

If you open Console (Applications > Utilities) and look at Console Messages you may see a reference to the Add Printer starting and stopping. This may give some clues as to the cause.
Still in Console, if you expand /Library/Logs and then expand Crash Reporter, there may be an entry for the Add Printer app.
If none of that is any help, then you could download the 10.5.7 Combo updater and ran that. If you updated to 10.5.7 using Software Update, then the Combo updater can sometimes repair files that were damaged by the sequential update.
You could also get a copy of Print Therapy from fixamacsoftware. This utility can help resolve printing system issues.

  • Trying to add Canon MP500 printer via Bonjour; get Error -9672

I have my Airport Express hooked up to my Canon MP500 printer. My computer recognizes the Airport Express. I go to Print & Fax in System Preferences and try and add the printer via Bonjour - it stalls and then displays Error -9672. I have had this printer hooked up successfully before. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    From HP Support
Reset the device when it is not functioning properly.
If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.
On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)
Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.
Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.
A number of site online mention problems with different brand printers on intel macs. Some have correcedt the problem by downloading an older driver that that which came with the computer.

  • Not able to add Canon MP830 printer via TC

I have a Canon MP830 connected to my TC via USB and I cannot add it as a printer. I am getting an error message of -9672. Does anyone have any info on this? I can add the printer and print to it via USB, but not connected to the Time Capsule.
I bought the TC so that we could have backups now the printer does not work. Please Help.
    West

I had the same issue but have a Canon iP4500. Try the following which worked for me:
Make sure your printer is hooked up to the Time Capsule.
Open System Preferences, then open Print & Fax
Hold down the Control key while you click in the Printers box and select Reset Print System
Then hit the + button to re-add your printer.
Hope this helps. I'm not familiar with your Canon model but bear in mind that the TC printing option is for basic printing only. You won't be able to scan or do advanced stuff when the printer is hooked up to the Time Capsule.

  • Unable to Add Lexmark Z35 Printer

The driver does not show up in the driver selection pull down menu, the computer was be able to detect the printer via USB but there is no correct driver for me to select. I tried to reinstall the driver sets from the Tiger DVD and it does not work, the driver still wasn't showing up in the pull down menu. I then tried to go to Lexmark's website and download the driver there but StuffIt Expander cannot open the HQX file, it gave me an error message saying the file is compressed differently.
    Any hints and/or tips?
    Thanks.

Since there is no edit options here, I just did a search and found out that all the non-modern drivers are not listed (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301175#lexmarkdrivers) in the pull down menu, however the note said "3. Drivers that are not denoted as Modern Drivers cannot be selected when adding an IP printer or Windows shared printer." This is neither an IP printer nor a Windows shared printer, the printer is directly connect to my MacBook's USB port.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
EDIT: Well apparently there is an edit option but I can't edit my original post for some reason.

  • Can't add a new printer...

I am unable to add a new printer using the printer setup utility in system prefs.
I am logged in as Administrator
I am unable to add a new printer through the "add printer" dialogue in the printing preferences of any of my applications.
Why can't I detect them somehow and re-add them?

    Welcome to the Discussions Westar,
Just a few questions to start out:
Have you tried to Repair Permissions with Disk Utilities found in /Applications/Utilities?
Have you done any other repair/troubleshooting?
Were these printers already working with your system?
What is the make/model of the printer(s)?

  • HT1338 unable to connect Canon Printer imageCLASS MF5950dw to my Mac

unable to connect Canon Printer imageCLASS MF5950dw to my Mac

Instead of using Bonjour to connect to the network printer I suggest you use the LPD protocol. To do so, open Print & Scan and click the plus button to add. With the Default Add printer view showing, click the IP icon in the toolbar. You can then enter the IP address of the MF5980dw, ensure LPD is selected for the protocol and leave the queue name blank. You can also change the name from the IP address to something more meaningful, like Canon Printer, leave the Location blank and in the Use menu, change to "Select printer software" and then browse for the MF5900 Series. When found and selected, click OK and then Add to complete the printer queue creation. Now see if this will print to the Canon.

  • Hello, I currently have a MacBook snow leapord and i'm trying to connect it with my Canon MP560 printer, i put in the CD and installed everything properly but now when i add a printer it says a Queue already exists, i click continue and nothing happens???

    Hello,
I'm using a MacBook Snow Leapord and I'm trying to connect it with my Canon MP560 printer/scanner.
I installed the CD and followed along with the manual and did everything it asked, at the end it told me it was finished.
So then I went to go print something and an error had occured so i went to the file menu on Microsoft Word for
Mac and clicked Print/Add Printer and then i click on the Canon MP560 series-1 as it was the only one to click on.
When I did it stated that I already has a Queue for this printer and if I'd like to add a new one so I clicked continue and nothing
    had happend. PLEASE HELP
    sincerely,
    Laura.

I would recommend to download the driver appropriate for your system from the Canon webiste or, after installing it, to run software update and it will detect it for you.
If you have the last driver appropriate for your system, you may wish to reset the printing system. To do this, go to Sys prefs/print and fax and, upon clicking minus button, also press Option/alt key. You will be asked to confirm, do it. Then, add the printer by pressing plus button, it should work now.
But, before doing this, download the last good driver, CDs usually contain outdated drivers.

  • Just upgraded my MacBookPro to OSX Mountain Lion. Now unable to reinstall Capt.Installer driver for my Canon LBP3010 printer. Same installer was used in previous OS

Just upgraded my MacBookPro to OSX Mountain Lion. Now unable to reinstall Capt.Installer driver for my Canon LBP3010 printer. Same Capt.Installer was used in previous OS.
Got message that the software was not obtained from Apple or trusted source.
Anyone can help solve this issue, do not wish to purcahse new printer, and Apple does not appear to be friendly to me

Apple is still friendly, only became more protective - for your very best. Right-click on the installer, then "Open", and then you get a window offering you the option to run it. That's a ML feature. Again, for your protection.
Independently, and as not only with Apple, a new OS X is sometimes different, and ML is that bit "pickier" with fully compatible software. So, even if your driver ran under Lion, it can be that it won't under ML. In that case please check Canon's website if they have a newer ML-compatible version, If not, also go and blame Canon. It's their responsibility to provide up-to-date drivers, not Apple's.
    Good luck.

  • Canon iRC 3580 Network Printer Problem

    Hello,
I am using a Canon iRC 3580 printer connected to a network. With Snow Leoparda I was abble to print without any difficulties (even at the beginning was a pain to setup the printer...) I upgraded to Mac OS X Lion and now nothing works. I have read accros a few websites there might be a bug or some problem with CUPS or the drivers maybe?

I have asked them those things, I'll let you know when I get a response.
Meanwhile I think we connect through a server, don't know which kind and if there is any difference. People using Windows machines have to authenticate at the printer to print, meanwhile Mac users print directly.
