Unable to add certain files to iTunes Library or iPod

For some reason, whenever I try to add some files with an .avi format to my iTunes Library or iPod just won't let me. I've tried the add file/folder option and it simply doesn't work. It does absolutely nothing. It won't let me drag/drop to the Library, only iPod. But when I try drag/dropping it to the iPod (as I've succesfully been able to do in the past with other files)I get an:
"[File Name].avi" was not coppied to the iPod "[iPod Name]" because it cannot be played on this iPod.
Thanks in advance for the help.

sorry all. i restarted iTunes after i downloaded and installed QT and everything started working. total retardedness on my end

  • Unable to add mp3 files to iTunes 10.3.1.55 (Windows 7)

    Issue:  iTunes and Windows explorer crash (freeze, locks up, stops working) when I add mp3's to iTunes.  I am using the drag and drop method but have also tried the File>Add File... option.  Same result.
    After this occurs, I have to open the Task Manager, stop iTunes and explorer.exe and restart the applications.  iTunes becomes completley frozen and Windows explorer becomes handicapped.
    This issue relates specifically to *.mp3 files.  Am able to add other media types without any problem (i.e. *.wav files, video, etc.).
    Confirmed file extension is *.mp3 (not mpeg)
    Removed an existing, stable file from iTunes library and tried to import it again - same issue.  Does not appear to be file corruption problem.
    Have confirmed file ownership and modification permissions are set to full control, etc. in Windows
    Removed and re-installed fresh version of iTunes.  No change.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Actually it's a good question ... I have not done it before manually. If the folder exists does it mean that I have done it before?
    The folder is completely empty.  I reconfirmed that I have full-control persmissions on all folders below my username ...

  • Add New Files To iTunes Library

    Is it possible to set up a folder in the finder so that when new audio files are placed inside (either copied, created or downloaded), they will automaticly be added to the iTunes library? Is there a folder action or applescript I'm missing or something? Or another way?
    Thanks in advance.
    -- steph
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2.16 MHz, 1 Gb RAM

    I've created a folder action for a folder (called it 'iTunes dropbox') on the desktop to do so.
    This is how I've set it up:
    • Create a new folder (on the desktop or whatever location)
    • Run Automator
    • Select 'Finder' in the Library (left) pane, then select 'Get Specified Finder Items' from the Action (middle) pane and drag it to the right pane.
    • Select 'iTunes' in the Library, select 'Add Files to Playlist' and drag it below the 'Get Specified Finder Items' action in the right pane.
    You can choose to add the file to the Library only, or also to an existing or new playlist.
    • To save this workflow as an folder action, choose 'Save As Plug-in...' from the file menu.
    • Choose an appropriate name (e.g. 'tunetolib').
    • At 'Plug-in for:', choose 'Folder Actions'
    • At 'Attached to Folder:', choose 'Other...' and navigate to the folder you created before.
    • If you did not enable folder actions already, tick a checkbox that says so. If you already enabled it, you won't see this option.
    • Click 'Save'
    Now it's time to test the 'dropbox'.
    Just drop an AAC, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV or mp3 file in the folder and if the exact file does not already exist in iTunes, it will be (should be) added to the library.
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to add certain songs to iTunes--strange glitch

    (x-posted in ipod touch forums)
    Hello.
    I have an iPod touch 2g, 8gb on itunes 8, windows Vista 32-bit.
    For some reason, certain songs will not add into the itunes library to be transferred onto the ipod.
    For example, I have a few Jack Johnson songs. One will add, but the rest of them wont. These were all burned from the same CD at the same time, legally owned and all. Itunes will transfer one song, but not the other six. I try manually dragging into the library and it doesn't work, and manually dragging to the ipod touch does not seem to have any effect either.
    It is not just Jack Johnson CDs that I am having a problem with, I have a Don McLean CD from the 90's, a few A Fine Frenzy CDs, The Academy Is... (one of their CDs) among others. It's far too diversified to just be one particular thing. I have tried un-installing and installing iTunes a couple times, and it doesn't seem to be a driver problem at all.
    Is there some way to add songs that I'm not aware of, some reason that the songs are not being added, or even an alternative to itunes that would be able to add these missing songs to my iPod? The problem is pretty widespread--I on;y have a music library of 500 songs or so, and about 80 of them won't add.
    Thanks for any help.

    Not sure what you mean by "double-checking online," but if the tag cleanup did not help, and you don't have the original CDs, I would go to cjschriver3's suggestion. If you have something like Audacity, read the file in and export it back out as a nice new "clean" MP3.
    (BTW, not sure where you got the idea that iTunes was "higher end." It has very nice and flexible features for syncing iPods, which is its main purpose in life, but as a player is really just consumer-grade, and not particularly reliable at that, as you have learned first hand.)

  • Unable to add aspx file to document library using REST and JSOM in SharePoint Hosted App

    Hi,
    I am unable to add an aspx file to document library.  I was actually trying to create a WIKI page and upload to Pages library but that wasn't working so I tried simple document library.  It keeps failing with Access Denied error.  I have checked
    the blocked types and aspx is not included.  I can upload it directly from the browser so that shouldn't be the case.  I have read that it can be achieved with CSOM but I need this to work with a SharePoint Hosted App.  Here is my JSOM:
    factory = new SP.ProxyWebRequestExecutorFactory(appweburl);
        context.set_webRequestExecutorFactory(factory);
        appContextSite = new SP.AppContextSite(context, hostweburl);
        oWeb = appContextSite.get_web();
        oList = oWeb.get_lists().getByTitle('Documents');
        fileCreateInfo = new SP.FileCreationInformation();
        fileCreateInfo.set_url("mywiki.aspx");
        fileCreateInfo.set_content(new SP.Base64EncodedByteArray());
        fileContent = "<%@ Page Inherits=\"Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.TemplateRedirectionPage,Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing,Version=15.0.0.0,Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c\" %> <%@ Reference VirtualPath=\"~TemplatePageUrl\"
    %> <%@ Reference VirtualPath=\"~masterurl/custom.master\" %>";
        for (var i = 0; i < fileContent.length; i++) {
            fileCreateInfo.get_content().append(fileContent.charCodeAt(i));
        newFile = oList.get_rootFolder().get_files().add(fileCreateInfo);
        context.load(newFile);
        context.executeQueryAsync(function () {
            alert('yo');
        }, function (sender, args) {
            alert(args.get_message() + '\n' + args.get_stackTrace());
    If I change the file extension to "txt", it works.  Same with REST implementation, it works with "txt" but fails with "aspx".  Maybe what I am trying to do will not work using JSOM or REST.  Any suggestions?  Your
    help is always appreciated.
    Regards,
    kashif

    Your code works fine in both my on-premises and SharePoint Online. I have given the app full control, so I suspect this is a permissions issue. I would check your permissions on your appmanifest. Must be something to do with publishing permissions. Try
    giving full control and work the permissions down.

  • I am not able to add mp4 files to itunes library

    None of the answers provided is the correct one.
    The correct one is: reinstall quicktime and it will work

    I Have been using, Ipad for only around a month or so (Ipad 2), and it was only yesterday that i tried to use the Itunes. I first downloaded the latest itunes (10.7.0.21), and took backup of all my Ipad data.
    After this, I wanted to add some video to my ipad, as it was essential to add the same to My itunes first, I roceeded to do just that. I went through this command {File - Add File to Library}, and then went on to select the Video file. There's just a flicker, and then nothing happens at all - the itune screen remains, and there is no error message too. Whereas, I can easily add Audio Files.
    After this, I even downaload the latest Quick time (7.7.2), as I had read somewhere that the same is necessary. When I tried to open the Video file in Quick time, it did not open. After that I downloaded the codec DivX and DivX player. Though the Video plays in DivX, it refuses to open in Itune and does not play properly in Quicktime (slider moves, but sound and video is not there).
    Frankly, I am utterly confused.

  • Cannot add new files to iTunes library.

    My itunes library is run through my external hard drive. This hasn't been a problem, but now iTunes will not let me add new music files to my library. How do I fix that?

    Ditto. To compound the problem, I upgraded to Mountain Lion. I was trying to import videos and iTunes 10.6.3 starts, then the spinning wheel of death comes up about 1/2 way thru. After a couple hard boots to get the system back, I tried with a simple MP3 file. Tried ADD TO LIBRARY and drag and drop - Nothing.

  • Add .avi files to iTunes Library

    Hi, I can't seem to add a .avi file to my iTunes library. When I give the command, I can hear my hard disk working, but it doesn't add the movie to the library. Do I have to convert it first? If so, how can I convert it, and make a file that I can add to my iPod?
    Thanks.

    Use MPEG Streamclip to convert it to MPEG-4 and import that into iTunes. An AVI can contain audio and video of any format, and some formats can't be played or converted in Mac OS X.

  • Add music files to itunes library

    Many songs that I have imported (create *.mp3) using an early version of itunes will no longer play in my ipod 5G video, or in itunes. So i've removed them from the itunes library, and now I cannot get the files back into itunes. I've tried all of the methods I know of: import a song, a folder, and dragging and dropping the folder. Please Help.

    Create the playlist folders.
    Create the playlists inside them.
    Drag your folders of music to their respective playlists.
    You may want to visit Edit > Preferences > Advanced, then turn off the Keep... & Copy... options.

  • I am unable to add content to my iTunes library. I'm running 10.6.1 and didn't start having issues until a day or two ago. I've tried dragging and dropping content (like I always do) and also using file add to library. Neither work! Any suggestions?

    Please help!

    But why we are having to do this extra step I do not knew
    A post or two per day on this. Not happening to everybody obviously.  Maybe something to do with the details of the tracks to which this is happening (maybe a font character), or something else you did, but to figure this out people would have ot carefully dosument everything they were doing, including track names, machine specification, computer use history.  Nobody who posts on this posts all the detail, so there's nothing with which to work.  You can also report this issue to Apple (we're just other Mac users like you) but wihtout the detils they probably won't know what to do either.

  • Add media files to iTunes library

    Hi, I am new to iTunes and just bought an iPad. Tried to add some existing video files on my computer, including RMVB, WMV, AVI formats, using the 'Add File to Library' menu option, but nothing happened in the iTunes. No error messages, yet nothing added. Anyone has any clue? Those video clips can be played with other players without isssue.

    They need to be in an iTunes supported format.
