  • Connecting database 11g to Oracle forms 6i.

    Hi guys,
    my previous question was:
    "Hi guys,
basically, i am using the "run sql command line" from "Get Started With Oracle Database 11g Express Edition ". I have created a database within the command line and now am trying to open it Oracle forms 6i. I have set up the forms in the form builder but when i hit the green traffic light it asks me to log in. I type "system" for the username and then my password. (Not quite sure what the database bit should be. Someone told me XE). Anyway, apparently, you need to connect the sql command line or the sql database to oracle forms 6i. Can someone please tell me how i can link the database from the command line to oracle froms so i am able to log in. If there is anything technical such as "check a port number" or anything like that, can you tell me where i can locate it.
    Thanks in advance "
    Someone replied with:
irst you have to configure TNSNAMES.ORA file
copy the tns configuration from database to forms tns file.
then create a user in data base and give connect and create access and create any table and then try to connect from forms.
Can someone please tell me where to look for TNSNAMES.ORA file? where it can usuallly be located? or even what it should look like? i found one but i think it is the one for the forms but non for the database.
    Thanks

    TNSNAMES.ORA File Location
    for Forms 6
    C:\ORANT\NET80\ADMIN
    for forms 10g
    E:\DevSuiteHome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN
    for database 11g
    D:\oracle11g\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN
note that oracle database 11g does't have compatibility to connect with forms 6 version.
forms 6 version is limited upto 10g database versions.

    hi,
try using the IP address of your host instead of the fully qualified name in your connection string.

  • Installing Oracle Database 11g from Oracle download page

Where is the option of selecting the required edition of the Database? It wasn't obvious (to me) and although I wanted the Standard edition, even by de-selecting the Enterprise modules, I seem to have installed the Enterprise edition.
    Thanks,
    Alison

You choose the edition (Enterprise, STandard, STandard 1, Personal) from the one install.
So download THE database, and choose the correct edition during the install

Giancarlo, did you get an answer to this question? I am experiencing it as well. It may also be related to the NLS parameter setting, as I see that error message as well. And the "create database ..." command just doesn't work.

EdStevens, thanks for your quick answer, sorry for my explain was doesn't clear, i open oracle sql developer and choose new connection i set connection name system_orcl username:system password:*i set my password that i create when i setup database*
-Now the link that i got after finish install database is https://Ahmed-HP:1158/em so i have question about this point Hostname and port if the link to access database is this https://Ahmed-HP:1158/em so this mean i typing at Hostname:localhost and port:1158 ?
because the message when i test connection always is filed and I'm sure i typing username and password and SID:orcl as i set when install database.port 1158 is what the dbcontrol (Oracle Enterprise Manager) is listening on. OEM is NOT the database. As far as the database is concerned, OEM is "just another client".
Actually, the database doesn't listen for requests on any port. There is another process, the "listener" that listens for requests to connect to the database. Typically, it listens on port 1521. You should have a tnsnames.ora file set up to resolve a connection request to the correct host. You can read more on this at http://edstevensdba.wordpress.com/2011/02/09/sqlnet_overview/

  • Unable to add a new Team Workspace to OBEO

    Hello:
For some new Workspaces that are created by others and where I have been added as a team member (e.g., workspace coordinator), I am unable to add the Workspace to Oracle Beehive Extensions for Outlook (OBEO). In Outlook, I go to Tools/Workspaces/Manage Workspaces/Add/Team Workspace. I can then see the new Workspace, so I select it and then hit OK. It then shows up in my Selected Workspaces window, and then I hit OK again. However, it then fails to show up in Outlook as an actual Workspace folder. Therefore, can someone please suggest how I can fix this problem?
    Thank you.

What OBEO version are you using?
Sure that you toggled the display bullet left next to the available workspaces listed, so it gets green?
    Greetings, Tom

  • Doubts on Oracle Failsafe Shutdown Process

    Hello
We have the following configuration in our place.
Two Node Windows Server 2003 Cluster. (Active/Passive Configuration)
Oracle 10.1 Home on Both the nodes.
The database server, datafiles, redo log files are on the shared disk.
Oracle Failsafe Manager 3.4.1 is running on both the nodes.
Now We want to shutdown the whole database and cluster for a migration purpose. We should the system and then SAN sync the image to another place and restart it there. So I need a procedure for clean shutdown and clean startup.By going the Failsafe Documentation and other articles in goggle,I have not got a clear idea about the shutdown process.
    As per the documentation ,
For maintenance issues like cold back up ,The process to be followed is:
1.Take the database offline from Oracle Failsafe Manager and it will shutdown the database.
The questions I have is :
1)If I take down the database from Oracle Failsafe Manager on the Active Node,is there any chance that the database will start on the passive node due to failover.
    2) Do I have to first shutdown the passive node or put a freeze between the communication link so that it does not failover.
    3) Do I have to take the shared disks ,Network Adapters offline from the failsafe manager for a complete shutdown or will the Windows Machine shutdown takes care of it.
Also can someone just throw a brief overview on how to start up the same database on the other cluster.
Any suggestions would be helpful .
    Thanks

Sashank1- When you take it offline on Failsafe it won't come up on the other side till you bring it online.
    2- no
    3- again no
I could not get the last uestion but If you want to move resources to the other node it can be done via microsoft cluster services.
