Unable to add delegate calendars in iCal

I'm using OS 10.6.7 and am on an Exchange 2010 server and have it hooked into iCal. It shows my calendar just fine, but when I go into preferences->account->delegation and hit the plus button to add a delegate, I can enter a username of a delegate into the appropriate field, but when I click away (hitting the "enter" key just goes down a line, which is odd for when I'm entering what should be a single-line item) , the text I've just entered disappears and I'm left with an empty list. So, effectively, I cannot add a delegate exchange calendar to iCal.
I know that permissions for the exchange calendar are correct serverside, because I can view the delegate's calendar just fine from Exchange webmail. It's just in iCal that it won't add. Any ideas? I have tried deleting and re-adding the exchange account in iCal, and that doesn't help.

iCAL (Calendar) may be unable to access a shared calendar if the person's access to it is defined using a group that contains another group to provide access..  The access must be an account within the membership of the group not a group entered as a member of the group.
For example: SharedCalendarA has a group named All-Teams with Reviewer access.  All-Teams has a Red-Team, Green-Team, etc groups listed in it.  PersonA's account is listed in Red-Team.  PersonA may not be able to access ShardCalendarA since All-Teams is being used to control access.  However, if Red-Team is used instead access will work.  It seems iCAL is unable to resolve access for security groups within groups.  The group being used MUST have the person's account listed in it.
I thought this is worth passing along since Outlook 2011 for Mac and OWA work with groups within group access but iCAL may be having an issue with extra level security access.

  • Unable to add subscription calendars in iCal

    Hello all,
I have been running into some iCal issues of late. I re-installed the application from Snow Leopard install DVD and after having some issues yesterday, deleted the cache and preference files. My issues were resolved.
However, I am still unable to add subscription calendars.
When attempting to add a calendar, I enter the webcal address (confirmed to be correct) and a dialog box appears "downloading". This process is taking longer than in the past. At the end of the process, the subscription calendar does NOT appear in my list of calendars. In other words, it is unsuccessful.
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Kieran

    Greetings,
Try adding a standard subscription like US Holidays, does the same issue occur? :webcal://ical.mac.com/ical/US32Holidays.ics
    1. Remove the contents of the /Macintosh HD/Library/Caches/ directory (drag everything inside to the trash).
    2. Launch iCal and test
    3. If the issue persists follow this article to reset your sync history: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
    4. If the issue persists test in a new user and let us know if that works:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8235.html

  • Unable to add new event in iCal

OK, this may be a total newbie question, as this is only my 2nd day with a Mac, but I can't add an event in iCal.
My calendar is a Google Calendar, and I have successfully set this up in iCal (I can see all my events). However, I can't find a way to add an event! The File > New Event is greyed out, and the keyboard shortcut doesn't work either.
I'm guessing it's got something to do with how I've set things up, but I have no idea where to go from here.

Solved! Needed to check "Show All Day Events" in the View menu!

  • No option to add birthday calendar to iCal

Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but there's no option under General Preferences to add a birthday calendar to iCal.
    Please Help!

    Greetings,
Just to cover all bases, you do have birthdays in Address book, right? (You are using Address Book for your contacts, right?)

  • Unable to add new event in iCal, Lion 10.7.1

    Hi,
On Lion 10.7.1, I can't seem to add new events to iCal.
    I have tried the following:
    1. 2-finger click on a day in the month-view. This pops out the menu and I can click on 'New Event', but after that, nothing happens.
    2. Clicking on the '+' button at the top. This pops out the 'Create Quick Event' window. After typing in a new event and hitting return, nothing happens.
I can create a new event in the 'Day' and 'Week' view though.
iCal was working fine for me last week, but it seems to be broken since yesterday. I'm not sure if it stopped working after the 10.7.1 update.
Thanks for any guidance or assistance!

Solved! Needed to check "Show All Day Events" in the View menu!

  • Can't add Delegates to Calendar in Mountain Lion

    Hi
Since updating to Mountain Lion i have been unable to add delegates into Calendar.  Previously this was easy preferences- delegates- type in the first part of the name and it found the delegates.
Now i type in the name and nothing happens - there is no automatic name matching and no button to press to search - it just does nothing.
    Any ideas??
    thanks

Ok but you can get the Option key to work.
There is a utility to Rebuild the recovery HD partition.
    Look here first.
Removing and rebuilding a malfunctioning Recovery HD partition « Der Flounder
Then in that article a link to download or find the Recovery HD utility on the Apple website.
But that was originally for Lion. So you may have to rebuild the Lion R-HD then Reinstall Mt Lion over the top of your current install of Mt Lion for it to make the Mt Lion R-HD.
Depending on the age of your Mac's you may also be able to use the Online (Internet) Recovery HD system. To get to that with a R-HD partition on the system, even if that R-HD partition sin't working, you hold down Command+Option+r keys when starting the system (And yes with the USB keyboard attached).

  • Some Google delegate calendars won't appear within iCal

Strange.  My main Google calendar syncs just fine with iCal.  So does the Google Holiday calendar (which is a delegate.)  I added the St. Louis Rams and St. Louis Blues calendars as delegates.  They appear in the delegate window in iCal preferences and, when I checkmark them there, also appear in the calendar list within iCal.  Trouble is, the actual events contained in the sports calendars are not displayed in iCal, for example, a Rams game scheduled for Sunday at 4:05pm doesn't appear at all.  I did check and those events are displayed correctly on the web-based Google calendar.  Any ideas as to a fix are appreciated.

Similar problem here. I can select the delegate calendars within iCal, but it simply doesn't sync any events for the delegate calendars. I'm also returned an error if I try to manually subscribe to the calendars, e.g. using a direct link from the Google calendar settings.
Either way, I think it's all related to a known block Google have implemented to deal with an iCloud conflict. Keep an eye here for a solution...although it's been several months already obviously:
    http://support.google.com/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en-GB&answer=99360#
The iPhone select utility should get things rolling on any iOS devices. See:
    https://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect
NB. You must do it individually from each individual iOS device.

  • Show google calendar in ical?

I have a google calendar that I share with several work colleagues. Is there a way for me to add this calendar to iCal so it shows up on my computer, but does not sync, as when I download a 'special calendar' like U.S. Holidays?

  • How can i sync a CalDav google calendar with my local calendar in iCal?

    Hi,
I have a google calendar as CalDav-account in my iCal. It works perfect. Now i'd like to sync the google calendar with my local calendar, without copy/paste for every date. Ist there any possibility?

I just discovered that when you set up CalDAV delegate accounts in iCal, you are really moving google calendars into iCal, not the other way around. So for everything to sync up you must enter events in the delegate calendars in iCal, not in your original iCal calendars.

  • Can't Attach Files to Delegate Events on iCal Server

There might be a bug in the iCal Service:
Attempting to attach a file to an event in a delegate calendar using iCal 4.0.4 client for Mac generates an error:
"The server responded with an error.
Access to “Event” in “calendar” in account “First Last” is not permitted.
    The server responded:
    “HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden”
    to operation CalDAVSetDropBoxAclQueueableOperation.
[Button:] Go offline; [Button:] Revert to Server"
The item might appear to be attached to the event afterwards, even if you chose 'revert to server', but eventually the calendar will refresh without the attachment. We have been able to recreate this behavior on multiple clients.
Anyone know how to resolve this? Thanks.

I am having the same problem. The only thing I have found that consistently works is to click rapidly (I use a usb mouse). It isn't the most technical approach but it does the trick.  Hopefully the issue will be resolved for good in the near future.
I am using Safari 6.0.2 and Mac OS X 10.8.2

  • Problems viewing calendars in iCal after OS upgrade

I just upgraded my OS from 10.4 to 10.6, and now several of my calendars within iCal don't show up (2 show up, but 4 are "missing"). I've synced with my iPhone, and all the events are still listed on my phone, but I can't see them on my computer.
Any suggestions on how to make it so that I can see these calendars again?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
It sounds like something went wrong in the upgrade process of iCal under 10.4 to 10.6.
    Try the following in order:
    1. First make an iCal backup, File > Export > Archive.
    2. Go to Your User > Library > Application Support > iCal
__Move this folder to your desktop (this is the old 10.4 calendar location. don't misplace it)
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Check iCal at this point. Did the calendars come back?
    3. If not then quit iCal and follow this help article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iSync/3.1/en/9247.html
Check iCal at this point. Did they come back?
    4. If not then go into the iCal folder you put on your desktop and look for several folders with extremely long names. Inside each one is a calendar called "corestorage.ics". Each one of these is one of your calendars.
Open each one, one at a time by double-clicking. When prompted, add each one to a uniquely named new calendar in iCal until you have restored the missing calendars. You can then delete any duplicate calendars that might have been imported.
    Hope that helps.

  • Show shared calendars in ical wiki

    Hello everybody,
We use the snow leopard server version 10.6.4 on a xServe.
Personal calendars are shared, so we can see the calendars of each others in iCal.
But I want to make visible the shared calendars on the wiki (calendar) server. Now I can only see my personal sychronosized calendar online.
So, how can I add shared calendars on the wiki server?
    Tnkx!

There is an alternative way you could try which works very well for our client who uses both macs and pc's on a windows network.
On iCal go to ICAL > Preferences. Click on the Accounts tab, select the exchange account and click on the delegations tab. On here click the + symbol and type in the first few letters of the user who's calendar she needs access to - if exchange is configured correctly it should automatically find the username and add that calendar to iCal for her to view.

  • Shared calendars in iCal via Exchange 2007

I am trying to test a solution for a user that has an iMac she wishes to connect to our Windows network and access her email and calendars from home. She will VPN of course, and upgrade to Snow Leopard for Exchange support. I have everything working up to that point on a test MacBook with 10.6.2 that is on the inside (will test VPN after everything works internally). I created an Exchange account that I can receive mail in Mail.app and normal calendar events in iCal.
The situation she is attempting to do is to see shared Exchange calendars. Not public folder calendars, but individual calendars that have been shared with her. Now in Outlook, all you have to do is click Open a Shared Calendar and input the user name of the calendar owner. In iCal, I think it is the Subscribe function, but it asks for a URL. What am I supposed to enter there? I have Outlook Web Access (OWA) URLs for the calendar I am trying to access, but when I input the URL string, I get an error saying the data was not valid.
    Anyone else doing this???
BTW, here is a link to a shot of the error message I am getting:

  • HT2513 Reception calendar in iCal

    Hi,
I have a problem with my reminders.  Example:   I create a reminder with one calendar located on icloud.  For some reason, if I restart iCal, my reminder is related to another calendar called "reception" located on my Mac, weird.
More weird, if I try to delete this calendar on my Mac, it is recreated automatically!!!  The problem is that my reminders are not synched with my others IOS devices if they go "On my Mac" calendar!!!
Anyone a hint?  What is the reception calendar for?
    Thanks.
    Jack

    Greetings Jack,
iCal comes with only 2 default calendars, "Home" and "Work".  That means this "reception" calendar was added to iCal by someone at somepoint (or a non-Apple program which talks to iCal like Entourage or Outlook).
From your description, I take it that this calendar is showing up in the "ON MY MAC" section of iCal rather than the iCloud section.
    Try:
    1. Make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Go to Apple > System Preferences > iCloud and remove the check mark for Calendars.
    4. Close System Preferences
    5. Open iCal -- the iCloud section should be gone at this point but the "reception" calendar should still be there.
    6. Delete the calendar in question from iCal.
    7. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    8. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove all files and folders that start with this phrase)
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove all files and folders that start with this phrase.)
Home > Library > Preferences > ByHost >com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove all files and folders that start with this phrase.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
---NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion:
    9. Open iCal and check to see if the calendar in question is still there.  If so, delete it and then restart the computer again.
    10. Assuming the calendar in question is gone at this point go back to Apple > System Preferences > iCloud and put back the check mark for Calendars.
If the calendar still remains after step 9 let me know and I'll give you a different route to go.
    Hope that helps.
