  • Unable to add music to playlists

Since downloading the latest iTunes software 10.4 (80), i am unable to add songs to existing playlists on itunes and my iphone 4. please help.

First of all make sure it is a regular playlist (note symbol) and not a smart playlist (gear symbol).  OK so far?
If that is not the problem, you may be encountering the intermittent bug that affects drag-n-drop into playlists.  The workaroud is to right-click the file, use "Add To Playlist" and pick the list you want.

  • I am unable to add songs to a playlist, what do I do?

I am unable to add songs to a playlist.  Any suggestions.  All of the things I've previously done to add songs don't work now.

I am unable to add songs, even when iTunes Match is turned off.  Also, if I purchase a song on another device, it will appear in my playlists, but I cannot find it in the Music tab or when I search my library.  Anybody have a resolution on this issue?  All was well until iTunes 10.5.1.

For some reason, I am unable to add music to my library. It also will not let me change/modify titles, artists, etc. It will work on my wifes account but not mine. We both have admin status.
I do not understand how this happened. We both have read/write permission. Any idea what is wrong?

  • I am unable to synch music from selected playlists in my iTunes library onto my new iPod Classic, despite meticulously following the User Guide.

I just purchased an iPod Classic, and after making sure I had the latest ver. of iTunes on my Intel MacMini, printed out the User Guide and carefully began learning how to operate the iPod. My first step was to ensure I had manual control (vs. auto synch) because I want only selected songs and playlists on the iPod, not my whole iTunes Library.
On pg. 24 of the Guide is the topic "Synching music from selected playlists onto iPod Classic." Just what I wanted. OK, I selected iPod "in the source list" (aside: Shouldn't it be "in the device list?" I dispair of imprecision). This brought up the iPod Summary page, showing I had selected Open iTunes when connected and Manually manage music and videos. Next I clicked on the Music tab.
This presented me with Synch Music next to an empty check box. Below it, and entirely grayed out was:
Entire music library (showing a checked box)
Selected Playlists, artists, albums and genres (next to an unchecked box).
There's also a third grayed out item: Include music videos that is checked.
When I selected Synch Music, I got the message: "Are you sure you want to removed existing mlusic, movies and TV shows from the iPod and synch with this iTunes LIbrary?   I selected Cancel because:
    1. The grayed option Entire Music Library is checked, not mly preferred option of Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres. .
    2. I can't find anywhere in the User Guide how to "Select the Playlists" I want to synch to my iPod. At present all I have in iTunes is my list of playlists in the left hand side bar.
OK, my first thought was the checked box in the iPod's Summary window: Manually manage music and videos. So I went there and unchecked it, which immediately brought up an alert  to the effect "Are you sure you want to automatically synch your entire iTunes library, etc. etc...? I quickly cancelled. Thus, I seem to be in a Catch-22 situation.
    So the questions are:
How do I resolve the Synch Music issue so I am assured only selected playlists will be sent to my iPod?
How do I create a list of playlists in my iTunes library to be transferred to my iPod?
How do I manually move a playlist in my iTunes library to my iPod's lists of playlists?
Any help much appreciated. Thanks to all.

For the immediately problem, you can shut down the computer and disconnect the iPod.
There may be a process (program) running on your computer in the background that continuously monitors mounted volumes for things like maintenance, data corruption, and malware.  The iPod's storage is a mounted volume.  If you know of any such program, such as an "anti-virus" utility, and it has settings that allow you to exclude certain volumes, you can set it to ignore the iPod "disk" when connected.
Also, if you are using automatic syncing (not the manual method) to load the iPod, and you have Enable disk use turned ON, turn it OFF.  With Enable disk use turned OFF, iTunes only mounts the iPods disk when syncing, then immediately unmounts the disk.  Thus, other processes you have running on your PC (not iTunes) will have less of a chance to make the disk "in use" and cause this problem.  You won't even have to eject the iPod before disconnecting.

  • Old laptop stolen, can't add music from new laptop to iPhone

Basically, my old laptop was stolen out of my car, so bought a new one. I've put all my backed up music onto my new laptop, but can't add music from my new laptop to my iPhone. I've deauthorised my old laptop and authorised my new one, but iTunes wont let me drag music across into my iPhone. What do I need to do to add music to the phone?

  • PC crashed. Unable to sync music on new laptop.  HELP!!

I had several songs downloaded on my PC which was the computer I had linked to my IPhone. The PC crashed so I got a new laptop. Now when I attempt to add music to my IPhone it does not allow me to. I have added the laptop as an authorized computer on ITunes and it will not let me even sync with the library. Am I going to have to re-download all that music again? And how do I even put new music on there. It is locked. I am not computer savvy so any assistance is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Well, even though you have authorized the iTunes, if you didn't have a backup of your iTunes library, it is going to be difficult at best. While you can transfer purchases made on the iPhone to the iTunes library, if you are using the same login on iTunes that you had when you purchased the music, it does not include music you may have added to iTunes on your own.
The iPhone is designed to only sync to a single iTunes library. If you attempt to sync to another, it will erase all of the existing music and replace it with the music in the new library. If there is none, then it will just erase music and do nothing.
Did you ever do a backup of the iTunes music library? If not, you will need to Google for a 3rd party application that can help take the music off the iPhone, since iTunes is designed to only sync the music one way, from iTunes to the iPhone.
Once you have replaced the library, making sure you have auto syncing disabled (done in iTunes, edit, preferences, devices, put a check by prevent automatic syncing) connect the iPhone. Once you have done that, go to the music tab, put a checkmark by sync music, OR on the Summary page, check manually manage music and you can drag music one song at a time to the phone.
Hope this helps answer your questions.

  • Unable to add music to my  iTunes.

I have music on my computer but I'm unable to add it to iTunes. I've tried clicking and dragging it in and I've tried File>Add to library and neither work. Anyone got any ideas?

I managed to dig up the CD's that the tracks came from and imported them directly from the CD's to the library. I still am not sure why transferring the files from my computer did not work, but at least I have the music on there now. Thanks so much for your help!

  • HT1473 I got my MAC PRO installed with iOS lion and since then i'm unable to add music on my iTunes and i tried adding to library option but still it copies and at the end it stays empty, doesn't even open new songs on it. any suggestions ?

    hey,
I've rebooted my mac before installing new ios lion, so after everything was done i copied my data back to my mac book pro, then simple clicked on adding to library option in itune and it only synced half of the track and rest simply didnt copy, i thought maybe some error occured and i tryed the same procedure again but its not adding more tracks in it. and i just notice when ever i try play a new song through my data it does not open in itune these are the same tracks and songs i been listening to since ages on different note books and pods..
Help me i've tryed everything but nathing seems to be working. and my itune is uptodated =S

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Problems with syncing - unable to add music to ipod

    hi
just got my ipod and tried to load 3.4gb of music to my 2gb ipod nano. Itunes said it was too big and and created a playlist based on my prefernces to fit and behann syncing to ipod. I did not want this and pulled the usb cable. I then deleted all playlists and created new ones to fit to my ipod. However when i now try to sync to ipod i get a message saying "songs on the ipod cannot be updated because all of the playlists selecting for syncing no longer exist" and there are no songs on my ipod. Can somebody please advise what to do???

OK, that is iTunes's way of telling you that the file is not compatible.
Try playing the file in another media player such as Windows Media Player to make sure it is a valid MP3.
If it doesn't play in any player, it needs to be replaced.
If it plays in WMP but not in iTunes, it probably has some minor corruption, and needs to be treated with a tag repair tool such as MPval.

  • How best to add music to new iTunes library on external hard drive?

I just created a new iTunes library on my external hard drive and would like to add songs that I already have stored in a folder on the external hard drive. Should I simply select all of the songs and drag them over the iTunes library folder or drag them into a specific part of the library folder? Or, should I open the new iTunes library and use the import function? I do not want to get the two libraries (powerbook and external hard drive) intermingled.
Also, should I "keep iTunes library organized" turned on?
    Many thanks!
    RB

You could leave keep library orginised selected - all it does is rename and reorganize files in your music directory to artist-album-track#-songname format.
Since you want to do this, and still keep your libraries separate, here is one option.
Change the itunes music library to a directory on your external disk.
Then anything new you add will go into the library on the external disk.
When you want to add something to your laptop disk, just change the
music library location back to where it was.
iTunes can be a little confusing. There is the itunes "library" file, which is actually more like a catalog file. Then there is the itunes "music library"
which is where itunes puts music if you have "copy to library" selected.
