Unable to aquire IP address on secured network via wireless.

I have a WRT54GS which we secured the network on over a year ago. (WPA encyption setting). This christmas we got the kids one of those mini-laptops but when we went to put it on our wireless network it could not aquire the IP address. Using the ethernet cable to connect it directly to the router did allow it to get online with the LAN setting enabled.
In order to finally get the new laptop connected via wireless we had to unsecure our system. Now we need to figure out why the laptop was unable to aquire the IP address so we can fix the issue and resecure our network. Any ideas/suggestions on the subject would be appreciated.

  • Unable to connect Panasonic HDTV to home network via Wi-Fi

I am unable to connect my Panasonic TC-L37E3 to the internet via Wi-Fi.  I purchased the additional Wi-Fi adapter for the set, and while setting up the connection I am able to see my wireless network on the TV.
I have a basic WEP key, but I am unable to connect to the network via any of the connection options given.  For every option there is a two minute timeout which is the eventual result of each connection attempt.
My router is 9100EM, with at 10M/2M service plan.  I am unable to connect the TV directly to the router via CATV since it is a considerable distance.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue or can suggest any troubleshooting actions?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Try switching the router off of WEP and onto WPA2. There is a WEP Setting regarding Authentication that allows for Open or Closed authentication, but even then, devices expect Open. WPA2 is faster and more secure, and it's a good bet that the TV will work once you switch the router over.
You can change the security settings by going to http://192.168.1.1/ and logging in using admin as the username, and your router's serial number as the password. In the Advanced Wireless Settings, you'll find the option for WPA2. Enable that option with Pre-Shared Key and set a Passphrase (if one is not already set), and then set up your devices to use that Passphrase (is case sensitive) once you apply the settings.

  • Need help setting up Pixma MX 860 on local network via wireless

Ok, I'm at my wit's end here.
I've spent the last two days trying to setup my printer with a connection to my wireless hub, and it simply refuses to work.
    I've tried under Win7 and Mac OS/X.
Most recently, using Win7, I have the drivers installed, I have tried running 'ltdl-win-mx860-2_5_7-en.exe', and it sees the printer, then when it lists the access points, I see my access point.  I type in my password, and it says "Communicating with printer", then, after a few minutes, I get "The printer could not be connected to the specified access point."
Please help me before I throw this printer through the window!
    AdvThanksance,
    -Mark
PS  Yes, I have checked, double checked, triple checked my access point password.  That's not the problem.

So you have a printer and wish to connect it to your network using wireless, right?
I don't see what the Win 7 or OS-X boxes have to do with it?
The connection you need to establish is between the printer and the Wi-Fi access point. Once that is established, everything else should flow.
Start at the printer, it should lead you by the hand to connect to the wireless. Have you tried using the printer (not any computer) to connect to the wireless access point?
Unless I am overlooking something else?

  • Linking two networks via wireless connection

I am looking to ‘link’ two parts of my house together to the same network… how do I do this?
I have a WRT54G in my office(Point A) where the DSL comes in. In another part of my house (Point B) I want to add another desktop and a network device both have 100Meg wired connections at point B. How can I link A and B together via wireless while still having the devices in Point B connected to a wired hub.
I want my WRT54G at A to control DHCP, etc.
From looking at the Bridge WET54G it will connect to one device only. Looking at the Wireless Access Point it is not clear what the differences are as they both have only one port… Do I need an access point to attach to a hub? Therefore two products?
    Any help would be great.
This is what I tried before based on what one of the guys in the store told me... but it did not work.
I tried buying a USB wireless adaptor (Netgear) to add to the PC and then have the PC plugges into a $15.00 switch I picked up at Fry's. then plugging in the Sonos into the switch. The Netgear adaptor was junk and dropped connection all the time and would not work with WEP. After messing with the DNS and gatway it kind of worked, but took forever to access anything as I guess it was trashing around to with all the network paths... I really dont know, but I do know it did not work.

hello ! so far you have been on the right track....i'll help you clear the confusion
the WRT will communicate wireless with the WET(bridge) the bridge will be hardwired to a switch....and the othe PC and netrwork device will also be hardwired to the switch.
The way this will work ....the DHCP will be controlled by the router...this in turn will assign DHCP ip's to all PC's/devices connected to the network.
The PC and network device connected to the switch will get the IP from the router itself...the bridge will do exactly that.....it will bridge a wired and wireless medium.
So go in for a WET .....and let me know if you face any issue or need any further clarification .

  • Cant see network via wireless only LAN

hi can only see media box on network if Lan cable connected to pc via router, can only access media box to play music via explorer if wireless. can access via network via Lan cable only??so i can do backup's etc

There are a lot of things that we can consider as to why your wireless network is not able to communicate to the media hub. Take for example AP Isolation on your wireless router. Make sure AP Isolation is disabled on your router so the wireless computer can communicate to the computers on your network. Second is the wireless adapter installed on your wireless computer, make sure it is properly configured. Check if the Clients for Microsoft Network and Support for File and Printer Sharing are enabled on the Properties. Third would be the firewall, there are some firewalls that can be configured to affect only on certain interface whether it's LAN or Wireless.

  • HT4262 Can I extend a wired remote base station network via wireless WDS Remote to a Wireless WDS main base station?

I have a wired nework in a remote closet (3 PC's to a 100/1000 Linksys switch).  I have an Apple Extreme network connected to the Internet  in another remote closet allowing wireless PC's and wired PC's access to the internet and printers.  I do not have the ability to connect the two networks together via wired although they are 50' apart.
My objective is to configure two Airport Extreme devices so the remote wired PCs can connect via the remote/relay Airport Extremen to the main Airport base station for DHCP, internet and intranet.
One Aiport Extreme base station is Model # A1034 and the other is Model A1408.

    Can I extend......?
Yes, this is possible.  But sometimes, the fact that something can be done does not necessarily mean that it should be done.  In a case like this....Upsides are far outweighed by Downsides.
    Upsides
You will have more wireless coverage (but 50 feet is a long way if there are multiple walls or ceilings in the signal path...I am not optimistic about this)
The Ethernet ports will be enabled on the remote Extreme.
    Downsides
The required WDS configuration will drop the performance of your newer "n" Extreme down to wireless "g" levels.
In addition, the bandwidth on the entire network will drop by 50%. In effect, you will have a "g" wireless network running at half speed
WDS is difficult for most users to configure. It is very easy to make a mistake and literally impossible to recover without starting all over again with the configuration attempt
It might work. But things are going to be extremely slow. Might be OK for general Internet browsing or light email. Any file transfers or copies from one device to another are going to take a very long time.
You also might want to review the WDS setup required to get an idea of what is involved here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4262
As you know, a far better way to do this would be to connect the two AirPort Extremes using an Ethernet connection. If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, you might want to consider a pair of Ethernet Powerline Adapters.
These devices send an Ethernet signal over the existing AC powerlines in your home. So, you already have the wiring in place....you just need the adapters. I've used these devices for runs up to 70-80 feet or so with good results. But, you need to understand that there are number of factors that can affect performance here.
So, if you want to try the powerline adapters, I would strongly recommend that you understand the store's return policy in advance. The bottom line is always this.....you won't know how they will work until you install them in your home.
Apple's instructions for a setup using Ethernet are here:

  • Same IP addresses on AirPort Network

A few weeks ago, we changed our office's WiFi network by installing an AirPort Extreme base station and two AirPort Express stations that extend the WiFi network.
I've configured the nwetwork so that our entire fleet of computers have fixed IP addresses (using DHCP reservations) for Ethernet and WiFi access. Furthermore, I've enabled Timed Access Control for anyone not having a fixed IP address so that the network is unavailable between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM on weekdays and none at all during weekends (we've tried Guest Networking, but it wasn't a workable solution in the end for us and we dropped it).
Everything worked fine for a while until some of us began receiving the following address:
“Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address (X.X.X.X).”
It seems to happen at random, although I noticed it happens often when we use AirDrop (which requires a WiFi connection). That seems to have no noticeable effect on the network usage (albeit maybe some difficulties using AirDrop between users), but the simple fact of receiving this alert is a bit annoying… and not so reassuring.
Considering the fact that I've made DHCP reservations on the AirPort network, that I've checked that computers have the IP addresses they have been allocated, and that I've checked every MAC address to make sure there's no mistake, what is causing this odd behaviour from our network?
Should I setup manual IP addresses on every computer and device in the office (from the Network's System Preferences' pane)?
Thanks for your input and solutions!

I had that similar issue in the past but it wasn't with an Airport extreme but with a soho cisco wireless router.  The only thing is that I didn't have a timed access on anything. Every now and then I couldn't access a computer and when I looked into the router I noticed that one of the computers would be offline and it would have the IP conflict message.  I would check logs and noticed that a wireless device or any newly connected device would end up booting one off.  I thought it was rather strange myself. But I did want to segment the devices that were accessing the network via wirelessly and via ethernet so I can distinquish between and I also had an ACL so I can remotely access to the ethernet devices.  So I set up a scope with the range being .15 -.30 for ethernet devices and I actually statically set these up on the computers as well.  And I set another range .45 - .80 for all Wi-Fi devices and it has been working correctly ever since then.

Unable to print from recently purchased Macbook Air via wireless router (Linksys e1550) that is connected Windows XP which is connected to Lexmark x2650 printer.  Macbook Air is connected to wireless router and able to access internet.  Windows XP printer is set-up for sharing and I am able to see and add printer from Macbook Air.  I have installed Lexmark 2600 series driver on Macbook Air.  Macbook Air sends print job to print queue and print job is released from queue but does not print on Lexmark printer connected to XP.  Any suggestions?

Hi Wade, and Welcome to the dicussions.
I think it's how the PC is setup and interpreting the Mac's drivers, should just pass them on I think, but here's a way to get most any Mac to print to most any printer on an XP machine...

  • Unable to set the ip address for hosted network client after creating WIFI hotspot

Original Title: INTERNET CONNECTIVITY PROBLEM WITH MY LAPTOP WIFI HOTSPOT
    HI all
I am able to use internet connection from my lap hotspot, when the internet source is Public or private wifi.
so I know the cmd window commands for hotspot and settings of client(sharing to hosted network client, assigning IP address etc.,)
but the problem I am facing is slight different
I am using my cdma wireless broadband datacard as my source internet connection(Reliance netconnect +)
when I try to create hotspot for this, as usual I am able to create the hotspot and able to share the internet to hostednework client.
but I am unable to set the ip address for hosted network client, if I try to set ip 192.169.137.1 and 255.255.255.0
as soon as I close the window, the ip address also disappears
when connect my android phone to that hotspot, it is able to connect but there is no internet connectivity.
when I check the hostednetwork client for packet transmission, both sent and received packet is happening., I mean transmitting
so what cause the failure in internet connectivity but success in hotspot connectivity?
    check the screen shots...
    can u help me..

  • Warning System spameater Unable to connect to Cisco Web Security Service.; URL Filter...

My C670 ESA's have been throwing these alerts intermittently for the past few days, anyone else seeing them?
    The Warning message is:
Unable to connect to Cisco Web Security Service.
URL Filtering will not work correctly.
Please verify all network, proxy and firewall settings.
    Connection to "v2.sds.cisco.com" failed.
The last error seen on this connection: "Request failed with code: 28 (Connection time-out)"
    Version: 8.5.6-092
Looks like it is open on port 443 and currently up.  Hitting it with a browser gives me:
    https://v2.sds.cisco.com/
After an error or two they go away and appear OK.
Checking the logs I don't see a way to verify URL lookups are working, is there a way?
Also, I setup URL filtering six months ago and had it set to only trigger on (-10)-(-9.5) and saw about an 80% false positive.  It has improved over the past six months drastically but still catching mostly advertising URLs and allowing all phishing URLs right through.  I've yet to see it block a phishing URL.

After lots of trial and error, I was able to eliminate this problem.  What I wound up doing is defining the XE service again in the listener.ora file:
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
      (SID_LIST =
        (SID_DESC =
          (SID_NAME = XE)
          (ORACLE_HOME = C:\ProgramData\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server)
I know that typically you should not have to do this, especially since I already had defined DEFAULT_SERIVCE_LISTENER = (XE) at the bottom of the listener.ora file.  Explicitly defining the XE service in the listener.ora file allows the listener to find it while the system is running under the Cisco AnyConnect VPN.  The only hiccup I found by doing this is that the XE service is discovered twice by the listener when the system is NOT running under the Cisco AnyConnect VPN.  It still works OK.  The listener just seems to ignore the repeated definition of the XE service (see output below):
    C:\ProgramData\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin>lsnrctl service
    LSNRCTL for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.2.0 - Production on 13-JUN-2013 10:03:15

  • Data Federator: Access Text file from secured Network Share or Sharepoint?

    Hi,
I am using BusinessObjects Data Federator Designer XI 3.0 Service Pack 2 - 12.2.2.0 (Build 1002172322) and I'm new to DF.
I am trying to use the Text File Datasource type to connect to a file on a secured Network Share and from a Sharepoint 2010 document repository. Is this possible?
I am currently able to use the Text File datasource to read a file from a public network share (
share\public\folderpath\file) or on the local federator machine using the "Local File" connection but cannot put in a username/password for accessing a secure network share. Is there a built in DF username/password that should be granted access to the share?
Neiher the FTP File System or SMB Share seemed like it would work here either.
For the Sharepoint connection, I know that I can make a webservice on a list and connect DF to the webservice, but I want to just connect to the document repository. I was unable to get this to work even with Sharepoint repositories using WebDav since the Local File method did not accept the url string (http://mysite.<org>.com/personal/<user>/Shared Documents). Is there any way to do this without having to change the way the file is exposed on the Sharepoint side?
How is this normally handled? Put the files on a unsecured network share or on the DF server? Import the files into a DB and just use DB connections?
Finally, is there a way to import XLS/XLSX files in DF or only CSV files?  I saw DI has an Excel Adaptor but didn't see anything for DF and when I tried it either could not retrieve the XML schema or reading the file's data failed.
    Thanks alot for the help.
    Kerby

Bump, any help here with Data Federator usage?  Sharepoint, XLS files, or using secured network share?

  • IPad 2 can only connect to unsecured Wireless network.  It won't connect to my secured network at home or at work

Two days ago my ipad 2 with (wifi only) will not connect to my secured network even though it show's up as available with a strong signal.  It keeps rejecting my password.  I brought the Ipad to work and the same issue.  However I am able to connect to an unsecured wireless network with no issue.  Is this a network/router issue or an ipad issue?  If it's a network issue what is the fix? calling my internet provider to change router settings?

    - I've used the correct pw (it worked till 2 days ago)
    - I use road runner from Time warner, not sure of the mac address filtering
    -Security is WPA PSK.
I called road runner to request they remove my pw and see if i can access my wireless if that works which i believe it will then it has to be a security issue.  I'm using a 802.11n wifi access point, if that means anything.
