Unable to assign keywords to JPGs in Bridge

Hi,
I have recently expereinced errors when attempting to assign keywords to JPGs in Bridge CS4. This used to work a couple of days back but now all I can assign keywords to are dng files.
I use windows 7 and if I close bridge from start up (it loads on windows start) and then re load as administrator then I can assign keywords to the JPGs I previously couldn't.
Is there anything I can do to revert this problem so I do not have to run as admin every time I launch it? Would anyone know the cause of why it happens? It's very frustrating!
Hope someone could shed any light on this!
Cheers,
MJ

Hey,
Yeah, worked on Windows 7 a few days back. I tried yoru ctrl click option reset the preferences. This didn't solve the problem
Any other options? I may consider going back to a previous saved point and trying from there.

  • Bridge not assigning keywords to .ai files

My problem is this, I converted a couple ov Vectors to .ai to assign keywords to it. But Bridge keeps telling me that it can't write Metadata to the files.
Can anyone please help with this?
I've got all the updates for Bridge and I've tried clearing the Cache. Still no luck

One thing that I've noticed is common in Bridge (I'm on CS6 at this point - same deal) is that files which should accept key words often do not. My workaround has been to right click the offending file and select Purge Cache for Selection. This can be done with multiple files. In most cases, once this is done, the offending file will accept keywords and Metadata changes.

  • Bridge slow to assign keywords

I've had a lot of trouble assigning keywords to images.  If I grab a group of say 40 images and assign a keyword, it will act very slow and in the end will not assign the keyword to all the images.  It is almost like it gives up.  I am working on a brand new macbook pro, so shouldn't be an issue of hardware.  Thoughts?

    Exactly the same issue
It is not always easy to use the keywords in a fast way, and depending on amount and file size it can take some time to save the files. It is annoying that each time you add or click a key word the saving starts and also background saving for keywords is not working, you should wait for the selected files to be finished before selecting other files. It is indeed not very productive I'm afraid

  • Keywords problem using Adobe Bridge CS5

    Hi,
I've a great many photos in numerous folders all found under one master folder.
Don't know if this is a flaw in the program or a fault on my part, but what I'm trying to do is keep my keyword list as I continue to add to it...regardless of when I happen to come back to Bridge...'and regardless of what photo I select.
Problem is, when I close out of Bridge and come back to a particular image, Bridge will show me only a portion of all the keywords I'd entered previously. My workaround involves browsing around to older images which happen to have all the keywords listed. (not meaning that all those keywords are applied to that photo, BUT, they're available). After doing so, the full list of keywords I've added in the past will now be available to any other image I select thereafter.
I hope I explained that correctly.
I always figured Adobe Bridge to be pretty intuitive and self explanatory but just now had a look at the CS5 Manual just to be sure I wasn't overlooking something. I couldn't find a solution.
Would appreciate any help in this regard.
    Thanks in advance.

Glad the problem is clear now
When I say at their disposal, I mean keywords from which to be applied to each file. When you create a brand new file, from where would I get the keywords? I certainly don't expect to enter each one individually over and over again for every file. At their disposal in my book would mean: available as a keyword to be applied to the image.
In the Bridge book this would mean they should be present in the keyword list that shows in the keyword panel. Like Curt stated the keywords that are already saved to a file but are not persistent to the list show in italic, usually at the bottom of the list under 'other keywords'.
When you need to save keywords to files (whether brand new or old) you only have to select the files you want to have those certain keywords and put a checkmark in front of the keyword from the keyword panel (persistent or italic both work but for the italic to show you have to have files with those keywords in the folder as you have found out yourself by now) and let bridge finish its task to save the data to the files.
You can create your own keyword list on the go when working and use the menu or right mouse menu in the keyword panel to create a new keyword or nested sub keyword. If you have created this word it will stay present in this list (persistent) but you can also create or edit your list in a simple text editor. A main keyword starts at the beginning of the line, hit return for a new line and 1 x tab to create a sub keyword to nest in the parent. Further nesting in done by return and an extra tab for each nested keyword.
You can also export the current keyword list using the little menu icon top right to the keyword panel and choose export. Save it with a proper name and open this file in a text editor to get the idea of tabs and lines.
Sadly enough I don't know a way to export non persistent keywords (italic) but maybe the scripting has a solution for you, if you want to make it persistent to the list you have to do so one by one.
If you have created your own keyword tree it is also wise to every now and then back it up using the export function. You can also import a new list either to add to your existing words or to clear current and use only the new one.
btw, going back to what you mentioned originally in as far as bridge needing time to apply a keyword and finish its task...that doesn't even exist on my end. I'm running off 16 gigs of memory and have allotted a huge number for bridge to work with.
But still, multitasking is not a Bridge gem, if you start assigning keywords from the keywords panel after a few seconds the arrow starts rotating and you have to wait for it being finished, no matter what specs you have (and I use 32 GB RAM on a 12 core processor using SSD…) as soon as the first task starts the keywords that are getting applied need time to save to the files. If you start a new job before it is finished only half of the keywords will be saved.

  • Writing keywords to jpg masters

I'm thinking of using Aperture to manage my image files which are all jpg or psd. Right now I'm using the demo version. Once I've assigned keywords to a file how can I write them to the IPTC keyword field in the master file without having to export that file?
    Do you Twango?

Ha, ha, ha, John! The gig is up. Caught me didn't you. I've been playing with the demo trying to figure out a couple of things in order to answer someone else's questions about keywords and writing keywords back to the original/master file. No matter how much I play with Aperture, I still like iVMP much, much better.
I won't tell anyone I ran into you here if you don't.

  • Assign keywords from excel

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone might have a suggestion for me: All our product images are named with a 9-digit ID number. All the item numbers and product information (name, color, gender, category, view, etc.) are stored in an Excel workbook for each photoshoot. Typically, we generate a list of keywords from the excel doc (using applescript), then import that list into Bridge before manually assigning keywords to each image. This seems like a perfect opportunity for automation. Is it possible for Bridge to open the Excel doc, find the cell with the name of the image, and assign the associated keywords from the same row? seems easy enough, but I'm not sure where to start.

  • Keywords conflict between Lightroom & Bridge

I am new to Lightroom but have used Bridge for a long time.
My Bridge keywords have evolved over time and various hierarchies and parent keywords have been changed many times to reflect my needs.
I find that when I import older images into Lightroom, older parent keywords, long deleted from Bridge, reappear in the Lightroom workspace.
When I update metadata in Lightroom and write the data back to the original files, the old hierarchies and parent keywords reappear in Bridge and in the file's keyword list.
I cannot find a way around this problem.

    Erik Bloodaxe wrote:
It occurs with any file type in particular I am using dng and jpg regularly.
By experimentation Lightroom seems to show the long deleted parent keyword which once contained a particular keyword. The parent keywords were EXCLUDED in Bridge when they were added to an image but they show in Lightroom.
Open one of the DNG or JPEG files in PS and check File> File Info> Description tab> Keywords using PS's XMP reader. If the excluded keywords are showing here they will also show inside LR.
As DdeGannes mentioned to see Bridge metadata changes inside LR you'll need to select the files inside LR and apply menu item Metadata> 'Read Metadata from File.' Conversely, if you select Metadata> 'Save Metadata to File' (CTRL + S) LR will "overwrite" the Bridge metadata with the keywords visible in LR. It's important to keep the Bridge and LR metadata "synchronized:"
    1) Update LR with any changes made inside Bridge using Metadata> Read Metadata from File from the LR menu for ALL changed files. You should do this BEFORE making ANY keyword changes to a file inside LR.
    2) After making keyword change inside LR apply Metadata> 'Save Metadata to File' immediately so that the changes are written to the file(s), making them visible inside Bridge.
I'm guessing that somewhere in time keywords were edited in LR and Bridge without following the above "synchronization" steps. If PS's XMP reader shows keywords "excluded" in Bridge then that's probably what happened. If the excluded keywords are NOT showing in XMP (but still visible inside LR) then further investigation is required.

  • What's The Best Way to Assign Keywords to Multiple Images?

I'm finally starting to organize my photos with keywords, but something about the way it works in LR2 is driving me batty.
I came back from a concert Saturday night with over 1,000 photos (double coverage by me and my wife).  I'm trying to use keywords to designate the 14 different performers who appeared on the stage at different times during the evening, when there could be anywhere from 1 to 7 performers on the stage at the same time.
Now, it seems to me the easiest way to assign these keywords would be:
    1) select a series of photos in which one or more performers appear
    2) in either the "keyword suggestions" or "keyword set" panel, click on the keyword "buttons" I've already created from the performers names.
But this doesn't always work.  I note that when I highlight a number of photos, ONE is more brightly highlighted than the others, and sometimes, that's the ONLY one that gets the keywords I just clicked on. Apparently, that one image is more "selected" than the others in the series I've highlighted.
It would not be quite so infuriating if that approach didn't work at all, but the oddity seems to be that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, and I don't know what I'm doing different when it does or doesn't work.
What does work universally is to to the "Keyword List" panel and type in the name I need, and then right click when the name comes up and select "add keyword to selected photos."  That seems to work every time.
Or, I can type "Click here to add keywords," type in the name I need, and hit return twice.  That assigns the keyword to all the selected images.  But then I have to do it again for every performer that appears in that series of frames.
Like I say, the easiest scenario would be the 1-2 step I outlined above, but I cant seem to get that to work all the time.
Anybody know the trick to getting that 1-2 scenario to work every time?
    Thanks,
    --PS

Oh, wow.  I have exactly the same problem of LR not assigning keywords to all my selected images.
I will try the grid, select the grid and not the filmstrip, and look for the current image metadata checkbox as well.
BTW, Adobe told me to delete the preferences file, which I did.
They told me to optomize the catalog, which I did.
And, lastly they told me to create a new catalog and import all the data from my old catalog, which I did not do.
    Stand by ...
Wow, that is it.  You folks solved my problem.
Library Mode, select in the grid OR filmstrip (yep-but harder to see in the filmstrip anyway),
COULD NOT FIND-look for the current image metadata checkbox as well.

    use.
    please help

I had a similar problem today when upgrading from SCVMM 2012 RTM to SCVMM 2012 SP1 RTM. To re-create the issue you describe originally you can actually just uninstall SCVMM 2012 SP1 RTM with "retain data" option and re-install the software on the same
computer (with the same name of course), attaching it to the retained DB. If you change the SCVMM server name I believe it will make some things go wrong after your install, like missing VM template passwords for example as the data gets encrypted in
the DB. Maybe it didn't but I didn't risk it. I definitely know if you change service accounts on a scenario like this you will be without the encrypted DB data which isn't much fun. To avoid changing the computer name, if you look in the setup log
files in %systemdrive%\ProgramData\VMMLogs\, specifically the SetupWizard.log file. You will see details on it failing because the same computer name is in the DB table "dbo.tbl_ADHC_AgentServer" and until it is removed from that table I wasn't able to get
the install to complete at all. The error in my logs looked something like this "InnerException.Type: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException, InnerException.Message: Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'unique_ADHC_AgentServer_ComputerName'. Cannot insert duplicate
key in object 'dbo.tbl_ADHC_AgentServer'. The duplicate key value is (computername.is.writtenhere). The statement has been terminated." In the row data in the DB it also seems to suggest that the computer name had "Virtual Machine Manager Library Files" on
it which is strange since I always remove the local SCVMM server as a library server after I install it and use an off box library server.

  • SCVMM Unable to assign the subnet because it overlaps an existing one

    Hello,
We are using SCVMM to manage an Hyper-V cluster (2012 R2).
When we tried to create a new VLAN we got the following error:
    Error (13638)
Unable to assign the subnet 172.22.172.128/25 because it overlaps with an existing subnet.
    Recommended Action
Specify a non-overlapping subnet, and then try the operation again.
After revising the rest of subnets we haven't found any overlaps.
We have another VLAN defined with 172.22.172.0/25
I've checked with a CIDR calculator and the IP Range is not overlapped.
How can we define both VLANs with their corresponding Subnets?
    Regards

    Hi Pep,
Have you tried a different range just to check there is not something overlapping that's been missed?
I have a single C class range I then subnet up further in our SCVMM deployment depending type of VM with no issues. With associated IP Pools sat on top. In fact I have just added your two ranges with two different VLANs with no issues.
The 255.255.255.128 or /25 subnet breaks your IP range up into 0-127 and 128 to 255 as expected. There is no difference to this and further sub netting a B or C class range for a normal enterprise deployment. Granted its not a default class and
will give you two different subnets but that's correct behaviour and shouldn't be an issue in SCVMM assigning each as a separate VLAN.
    Kind Regards

    Hi Kandara,
    Please check the following posiibilities:
    1. Check for Read and Write permissions for the workset you need to assign the ivew.
2.Also check your browser version if it is IE 7.
    3. Also i think that you might have locked some object ,to unlock them go to system admin-monitoringunlock objects---go and select the object which is locked and after that press unlock so that the objects are unlocked now.
    4. Please check whether you have opened the workset you need to asssign the ivew in property editor otherwise you will not be able to see any option .
After checking the above all possibilities try to right click on the ivew and then u will find teh option for adding to workset their you can select any one of them copy or delta link .

I have a Nikon d610 and am using PS CS6. I am unable to download my raw files through Bridge on my mac. I have downloaded the most recent Camera Raw files - 8.7.1 - what should I do next.

The D610 needs ACR 8.3 so you are easily covered there.  I am not entirely clear on the process you are using the bring the files onto your hard drive.  The safest way is to simply bring all the NEF files into a folder on your hard drive, then find them with bridge and open from there.
If still stuck, open Photoshop, and go Help > About plugins > Camera RAW and check that 8.7 installed OK.
