Unable to authorize computer

I just tried downgrading Quicktime to 7.0.1. (from 7.0.4) because of some problems I was having with synchronizing music with pictures in an iDVD slideshow. When I opened iDVD to try a new burn, I got a message saying This computer is not authorized to play "17-17 I Left My Heart In San Francisco.m4p". If you purchased this song you can open iTunes and authorize this computer to play this song by entering your Apple ID and password.
I went through the authorization process (which I've never needed to do before), but this purchased song plus another purchased song still will not play on iDVD. They do, however, play in iTunes. I've never encountered this before and am now totally stymied.
I sure would appreciate any suggestions. I don't understand why my iDVD program is refusing to play music purchased from iTunes even though I can play the music on iTunes. I'm confused!

Thank you. I actually figured it out, but am happy to have my theory verified! I sure wish I understood why this has suddenly become a problem. Today is the first day this has happened to my computer.
Anyway, I appreciate your taking the time to respond.
Cheers.

If you have exceeded your allowance of 5 machines then Apple will not allow you to authorise additional Computers. If you still have access to your old toshiba fire it up de-authorise it and then try again with the new computer.
While this won't help if you are having password problems, I did want to point out that you do not need to access old machines to de-authorize them. Once you are signed in at the iTunes store, access "my account" by clicking on your username in the top navigation bar. Then "manage devices".  You can remove any old machines that way.

For a computer running Mac OS X, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, click on Store, and choose Authorize this Computer.
For a computer running Windows, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.
The Deauthorize Computer function is also in the Store menu.

    Cannot play purchased music:

Double click on song again - repeat Authorize Computer.

But when reconnecting today (first time since the date of purchase), I cannot listen to those purchased tracks anymore and they seem to have been removed from my iPod by iTunes !!!
This was my first purchase on iTunes Store and it's a very bad experience. Unable to listen to music I've bought !
Could someone give us all an issue, please ?!

I'm unable to authorize my computer and don't see any of the prompts (i.e.Authorize this computer, etc.) that they say should appear under Store Menu.  Also songs aren't transerring to my ipod, which is why I deauthorized the computer, hoping to restore it, in the first place.

Note: After i erase when i connected my phone to itunes i choose the option set up a new phone because i did not want to restore and get old setings in my phone!!! Kindly help!!!

Do you have the latest version of iTunes?
Was your computer ever used to hack or jailbreak any Apple product? If so the software you used corrupted your computer's network database. You will have to correct the problem in your Hosts file.

  • Can't authorize computer or sign in to store

I recently got an iPhone which I first synced without problems with my computer at work (having never used iTunes before). Now I have installed iTunes on my home computer (running 64-bit Windows Vista), but I am unable to authorize this computer, or even sign in to the store--the "Authorize" and "Sign In" buttons are simply grayed out and I can't even click on them.
Also, I plugged in the iPhone via to my home computer and it synced with iTunes but apparently removed a number of apps I had already downloaded to the phone. I think this is because I hadn't authorized the computer.
I've restarted the PC and still no luck--can't sign in or authorize the computer, and I'm not very happy the apps on the phone were removed. Can anyone help?

I purchased a new computer recently and had an external hard drive, I moved all my music from itunes to the f drive so I wouldnt have to use so many CDs. I cant play any of my music it keeps asking me to authorize it and I do but it still wont play any of my video's or music and I am scared to sync my iphone with it because it may erase everything that I have purchased does anyone have any solutions to this? Please help if so!!

    Hey Mohamed Akhtar,
Thanks for the question. To troubleshoot this issue, you may want to try deauthorizing all computers:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
To deauthorize all computers associated with your Apple ID
If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
    1. Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
    2. If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
    3. Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
    4. In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).
If you continue to have issues, you may want to see the steps in this article:

  • Unable to authorize itunes

We migrated our daughter's older macbook to a newer macbook (but not brand new). She is unable to play any of her purchased music from Itunes. Itunes will not allow her to authorize the "new" computer, saying that she already has 5 computers authorized which is not the case. She only has one itunes account so that is not the issue. Any suggestions?

Did you make sure that you authorized the computer again? You have to re-authorize it after a de-authorization.
In iTunes, go to the "Store" menu, and select "Authorize Computer" from the menu.
Follow the instructions and that should take care of it.
If you have already authorized the computer after deauthorizing it, then chances are the tune is from another account. For example, say you daughter has her own account, and you have some songs on your computer that were downloaded from her account. Unless she authorized your computer using her account, then the music will not play back. If you can figure out which account it was purchased under, then you can authorize your computer using that account and it will play.
    Good luck!
    Jim

  • Unable to authorize account

I'm unable to authorize my iTunes account on my computer. Trying to do so results in a message containing "The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable, please try again later" popping up.
Weird thing is that I have no problems if I authorize a different account. Authorizing my account on a different computer also works just fine. I've tried removing iTunes completely (with quicktime and all) and authorizing while my firewall is turned off. None of this helped and I still can't authorize my account on this computer.
I got this error when trying to download items as well but was able to fix this. It was related to Bonjour not starting up correctly.
    OS is Windows 7 x64

  • Tried Hard but unable to authorize as it ask again and again for account details...any solution

Tried Hard but unable to authorize as it ask again and again for account details...any solution

not sure if you found a solution, but i am currently having a problem with playing "street fighting man" on beggars banquet. i'm continuously being asked to authorize my computer, and when i do, the song doesn't play and i'm still asked to authorize my computer.
i have followed the steps described in the apple support page "itunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play itunes store purchases" and none of them worked.  i have a PC- windows 7 and the current itunes 10.6.
on my itunes email receipt there is a link "report a problem" and i went through the series of forms and dialog boxes to report a problem. under account, purchase history, one can report a problem of a purchase.

  • Repeatedly prompted 2 authorize computer

i have recently moved my itunes library from the family desktop to my laptop. after getting tht library loaded, 40 of my songs will not play and i have 2 authorize the computer 2 play them. having authorized the computer multiple times, it still will not play. i have a vague idea wat is going on as i cancelled my old itunes account a few months ago and i think i may have purchased the songs on that account and i cant remember the email address or password. is there anyway 2 find out if those songs were bought on that account and if so, how do i get the email address back?

I''m not clear on a few things so ...
    have tried that, ...
Are you saying you have confirmed the iTS account name and password for the 40 or so songs you are unable to authorize? And you've used that information to try authorizing them?
    ... same thing happens.
For the record, exactly what happens?
i know wish i had not deleted that account!!!!
I don't understand what you mean that you "deleted" the account. iTunes Store accounts can't be deleted precisely because thet are needed in order for purchases that have previously been made to continue to be played.
