Unable to Backup iPhone to iTunes

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes but didn't seem to fix it. The process went very smooth, but same result. Right-clicking my iPhone on the left sidebar still doesn't give me the choice to manually Backup. Any thoughts?

When I moved to a new computer recently, I found that resetting the iPhone helped.  Hold the home and on/off buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.  Then try connecting to iTunes again.

  • Unable to backup iphone after itunes 10.7 update in windows 7

After the update to iTunes 10.7 on Windows 7 64 bit today, I can't get my iPhone to back up to my computer.  I get a a message about being unable to establish a session with the phone.  This happens with my iPad as well.  Is this a known issue, or an update issue on my system?

Okay so, i had the same problem too. i reinstalled my windows and i was unable to get my itunes to backup my iphone. Luckily, before reinstalling the windows, i had saved the backup files of my iphone.
1.You can do this by going to: C drive/users/user/appdata/roaming/applecomputer/mobilesync/backup.
2.Note: windows computer do not show hidden files by default and appdata files are hidden.
to see the hidden files, visit http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Show-hidden-files
    3. so next time you format and reinstall the windows, make sure you have backed up the iphone backup files.
4.so now after installing windows again and after reinstalling all the essential softwares, reinstall itunes and connect your iphone to itunes and authorise the computer.
    5. go back to the iphone backup file storage location which is:
    C drive/users/user/appdata/roaming/applecomputer/mobilesync/backup.
    6. once you are there you will see that there are no back ups in that location which is quite obvious. now paste the backup files of your iphone ( The backup which you made before installing the windows). as soon as you do this, you will see that the tab whi read: Restore form a backup glows up and is Clickable.
7.so now, you have the backup and restore fully functional. for a safer side, make a new backup and transfer all the purchases to your  new itunes.

  • Unable to backup iPhone to PC

    Win8.1 PC & iPhone 5S.
iTunes & iPhone SW are up-to-date.
I've no interest in using the Cloud & want to backup my iPhone to my PC via iTunes.
I have the "This Computer" box checked under Backups in iTunes & iTunes recognizes my iPhone.
Music Playlists synch from iTunes-on-the-PC to the iPhone just fine when I synch (just purchased some songs, downloaded them to a playlist on the PC/iTunes then synched that list to the iPhone.
Every time I synch I get the "backup failed" msg from iTunes with no explanation.
When I try to manually backup the iPhone to the PC via iTunes, after a couple of minutes I get the error msg: "iTunes could not back up the iPhone [name of my phone] because the backup session failed." Duh - highly information, eh?
All iTunes Diagnostic test passed. The only odd thing I notice is the statement: "Current user is not an administrator" which makes no sense to me in that I'm the only user of this PC.
For years I've done this until the iCloud came to be last year  Ever since, I've not been able to backup to my PC.

  • TS1702 Unable to backup iPhone 3GS.

Since the first iOS6 update my iPhone 3GS will no longer update the iOS because it has not been able to back up the phone anywhere (iCloud or Computer) since I did the initial iOS 6 update (Oct 2012).  The iTunes popup says "iTunes could not back up the iPhone "(phone's name)" because the iPhone disconnected.  Had any who had or still have the 3GS experienced this problem and been able to fix the issue?

  • Unable to Sync iPhone To iTunes

Recently, I updated my iPhone 5S to iOS 7.1.1, and I had no problem. I also updated my iTunes to the latest version, which also did not cause me any problems. Today, when I tried to sync my iPhone to iTunes via my laptop, I was greeted with an error message, stating that my laptop was not authorized to sync my device and it's purchases, which left me mystified, as I'm sure I had authorized my laptop. Upon attempting to authorize it again, I was informed that my laptop was already authorized for my iTunes account, which is the same one that I use on my iPhone. I'm not sure as to why this is happening, as my past attempts at syncing my iPhone to iTunes were all successful and I did not run into any problems. If you're wondering if I synced my phone to someone else's computer, I did connect my phone to my friend's laptop in school to charge, but, I did not authorize his computer, so, no syncing was done. Also, I did add a payment option to my iTunes account recently, and I purchased one application. I'm very perplexed by this issue, as I have already tried logging in and out of iTunes, and also, authorized and deauthorized my laptop. However, nothing seems to work. When my computer is deauthorized, no attempts to sync occur. When it's authorized, the unauthorizd error message pops up. Is there a known fix for this problem? I've tried restarting my phone as well. None of these attempts work at all. Is it my fault, or did Apple's new update cause a bug in iTunes? I've also tried plugging the USB cable into a different port, but it does not work. I'm able to see the internal storage, but it's only pictures. It appears that I can't transfer purchases made on my iPhone, because, when I'm syncing it, it takes a long time to transfer purchases, then, the bar doesn't even move. I'm just trying to sync a few new songs, but I can't get the damned thing to work. Well, after a while of frustration, the new songs appeared on my phone, but whenever I try to sync, I'm still told that my computer isn't authorized to transfer purchases. I only bought one item, and I'm sure it's not big deal, but I'm worried that my laptop may not sync important files or anything else because of the error.

I guess this question doesn't matter anymore since I got my new iPhone 4 this morning and no longer use the 3GS.

  • HT201210 Unable to restore iPhone 4S - iTunes server not responding

I have recently brought an iPhone 4S. First the Receiver stopped working, then the phone blacked out and started emitting heat.
It just got worse, when after a lengthy chat with the customer care (do they really ????) folks, decided to restore the iPhone from iTunes. I am receiving an error stating that the iTunes server is not responding and that I should try again later.
    Please assist.
    Thanks

Sounds to me like your computer is out of disk space. You're going to have to free up space on your hard drive before you can restore your phone.

  • Unable to backup, iphone 4, 4.3.5, itunes 10.4, Windows 7

I've sync'd and backed up many times before, and now I get an error. I recently updated iTunes, but I can't say that is the cause.
The error is: iTunes could not back up the iPhone "Larry's iPhone" because the backup could not be saved on the computer.
I've researched the web and tried the usual: deleting old backups (in itunes, and manually, etc).
When I delete all the backups and logs, and then try to sync, iTunes hangs up. I have to kill iTunes in the Task Manager.
The only log that is created during this procedure lists this error:

Anyone have any ideas? The file indicated doesn't even appear to exist, which might be why it's having trouble moving the file! Seems like sloppy programming since iTunes just hangs and won't quit.
I also ran the itunes installer and chose "repair" just for kicks. It didn't change anything.
(Please don't suggest that I disable security software. I uninstalled mine completely and it had no effect. )
    Thanks,
    Larry

Yes. In addition to deleting all the failed backup files, etc, I had to do one more step which I learned about from another thread.
The key for me on my windows 7 machine was to open a command shell (type "cmd" under search) and at the c prompt type 'netsh winsock reset' (do not include the apostrophe's of course). I may have rebooted afterwards. Try searching for that command along with "itunes backup."
I do not profess to understand what this command fixed. Obviously some condition in Windows 7 was hanging iTunes up during backup, and it was obviously something that Apple did not forsee. Running this command cleared the problem and allowed itunes to proceeed normally with my backup and I have not had an issue since.
I am keeping my finger's crossed.

  • Unable to backup iphone 4 to computer using itunes

I have the most up to date software for both the iphone4 and itunes, and while itunes recognized and connects fine to my iphone, a backup does nothing. For example I click to start a backup, and in the upper center it says "Backing up Bob's iphone..."  however it never does anything from that point on. The progess bar never moves, the screen never changes, and finally I just have to disconnect it. I have tried many times, reseting both computer and phone and then trying again, and have left it connected for over 12 hours.
What do I need to do in order for my phone to backup?

Actually it's a good question ... I have not done it before manually. If the folder exists does it mean that I have done it before?
The folder is completely empty.  I reconfirmed that I have full-control persmissions on all folders below my username ...

I have restricted access to the C:\User folder

iTunes says I have a bad/corrupt backup when I try to start the backup, but none are shown under Edit -> Preferences -> Devices tab -> Backups and the folder C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\ [Vista machine] is empty!
Can someone suggest how do I go about fixing this?

  • During software update - unable to backup iphone "error -37"

After downloading the iphone 2.0 update, when I try to update my phone's software I get the following error:
"An error occurred while backing up this iphone (-37). Would you like to continue to update this iphone without backup? continuing without backup ..."
I have tried several times, and downloaded the software more than once (by deleting the software package in ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/) to no avail.
I opened the console and see this error:

Any ideas what's going on here? My phone is not hacked in any way.

Little late for me now, but since others may be having the same problem I did, good to know.
Do you have any other virtualization software running or installed? Like Parallels or VMware? Make sure its updated or try uninstalling it.
Ah. As a matter of fact I have both installed. If this is a known issue, guess that was my problem.
This may be caused by a USB connection issue.
Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the Mac and not plugged into a keyboard or hub.

  • Backup Iphone via ITunes

    Hi everybody,
I recently downloaded the new iTunes. It had changed a lot compared to 2 years ago when I started to use it the first time.
Back then when I did the backup, I am able to view the outlook of my iPhone (3GS) homescreen and also all the pages of apps. I can arrange and delete it.
And when I restore with the backup, I get the exact replica of it (meaning all the apps and their location or folders).
With iOS 6 and the new iTunes version, is this still possible? I just did a restore from backup for my sis on her upgrade of iPhone4s to iPhone5. This did not happen and she had to re-download all her apps via iCloud.
    Could I have your advise?
    Thanks

    The same applies.
If all apps that were on the iPhone are not in the iTunes library on the computer, the apps must be re-downloaded by the iPhone.

  • Unable to Backup iPhone - Disconnection Error

I'm using 2.1 firmware on my iPhone 3G and iTunes 8. I have no problems syncing all my data to and from my iPhone. The only thing is I can't seem to get iTunes to back up my files!! Everytime I try to run a backup, iTunes tells me that my iPhone has been disconnected, although it's still displayed on the devices panel.
Someone please help me with this!

I had this exact same problem. Back up would take a good couple of hours and would usually end with an error message saying that back up could not complete because the iPhone had been disconnected. Not sure when during the process this happened, because I'd often leave it going overnight, only to find the error message in the morning.
Anyay After looking at these discussions and searching the web for similar posts on other forum, I tried the following, which seemed to work.
    1. With iPhone disconnected from computer (I have a MacBook) I deleted the previous back up (which was listed under iTunes > Preferences > Devices).
    2. Quit iTunes and all other programmes
    3. Go to disk utility and repair permissions for disk
    4. Restart MacBook
    5. Hard reset of iPhone (home and standby button pressed together for approx 10 sec, until screen goes blank - let go as soon as this happens)
    6. leave iPhone for about 10 mins
    7. Restart iPhone and plug in - iTunes should start and perform a back up immediately before syncing. This took about an hour, but completed OK.
    8. Just to make sure the MacBook or iPhone were not 'going to sleep' (which might have caused the disconnect error before??) I routinely moved the mouse on the keyboard and on the iPhone
    9. Verified good back up by checking it under iTunes > Preferences > Devices - there should be a back up there in the name of your iPhone and the time you did it.
Hope this works for you guys. Not exactly technical, but I'm not a developer or anything, just a keen user.
    Cheers.

  • TS2529 UNABLE TO BACKUP IPHONE 5 ON COMPUTER, PLEASE HELP!!

    hello,
i cant backup my iphone to computer.
It shows "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because a session could not be started".
Is it the itunes problem or my iphone problem?
I need help on this as my phone havent been backup since October.
    Thanks!

This is usually a computer problem, not an iPhone problem.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes (11.1.1).
Use a USB port directly on the computer, not a USB hub, and if it is a desktop or tower case computer use a USB port on the back rather than the front.
    Reboot your computer.
Reset the iPhone (just to be safe) by holding HOME and SLEEP at the same time until an Apple logo appears.
If none of these steps help try disabling your Antivirus and firewall.
Apple has additional information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2529
You can (and should) back up to iCloud. You can back up to both, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5262. This is the safest approach.
