Unable to blend a layer

Hello,
I am trying to blend two images together and I have followed all steps correctly in the below uTube video:

So I have the masked layer selected. I have selected the correct gradent. I hold my shift key down and drag my mouse from one edge of the image a cross. Nothing happens. Is somebody able to please help as obvioudly I am doing something wrong here?

If the two images are butting together, the blend will not work. The mask would blend one image with the background of the other. If you move one image in a bit, then the two can blend.
The mask needs to be on the top layer as it tells photoshop to display the top layer or the layers beneath it. If the mask was on the bottom layer it would show that layer or the non-existing layer below it (transparent)

It is not a SOAP request.
I also do know what "www.novell.com/vdx/service" is.

Unable to burn Dual Layer DVD's with Toast

Hi all,
I'm having issues trying to burn dual layer dvd's with either Toast 10.0.8 or 11.0.1. I keep getting the Interface -50 error and sense key 0x02 error saying media is incompatible.
I have tried dvd's by DataWrite and Elite M and they both show error. It's strange though as I have been using previously purchased Elite M dual layer dvd's of the same spec as these newly purchased ones, and they worked fine!
My dvd drive is a standard OPTIARC AD-7170 that came with the Mac Pro as spec'd.
I am able to burn single layer fine, and dual layers are read. I'm just unable to write dual layer at the moment.
Any ideas? I'm stuck on what to do and what manufacturer's dual layer dvd's will work with this drive. It can just do +R DL.
Could it be I've been unlucky to have had 4 bad batches? I brought 2 x 2 (25 disc) tubs of DataWrite and same by 50 disc tubs Elite M.
Please help.

P.s. I have tried creating a new admin user account to see if I am able to burn under that. I get the same errors.
P.p.s. "Hopefully" this is just a media issue and I can find some that works again. If not and it is a drive fault what can I do? What writers spec'd same are available internal for my Mac Pro?

Flattening Blend Mode/Layer Effects CS4

Greetings,
Working in PS CS4 Mac 10.6
CMYK document with a simple image layer with Drop Shadow layer effect and blend mode: Overlay.
I can't get the layer to flatten! When I try to flatten, it ends up looking like the original layer without blend mode or drop shadow.
I'm using the method of creating a new empty layer above image layer and merging the two together.
Is this unique to CMYK mode? (I usually work in RGB mode.)
Any suggestions?

Are you sure they want a stroke and not a Path?
Hard Light seems to be pretty much the opposite of Overlay, so you could try
• duplicating the background Layer,
• setting it to Hard Light,
• Clipping Masking it so the the Layer in question and
• setting that to Normal –
that should then be able to be merged.
The Drop Shadow however would of course lose its Blending Mode if it is merged to the Layer.

Unable to create Business Layer on top of SAP BW OLAP Connection - BI 4.0

Friends,
Need an useful information, why can't we create a business layer on top of SAP BW OLAP connection which is built with BICS driver.
Today when i tried to create a business layer in IDT tool of BI 4.0 it didnt allow me to do so. Is it a s/w bug or am i following a wrong approach. I do know, we can create a .unx universe through relational connection. But i dont want that, please provide your input.

this question has been asked many times before, so a search will reveal your answer.
as the warning told you when you tried the workflow in IDT - business layers aren't supported for Bics connections - i.e. you can't create a UNX ontop of Bex using BICS..
unfrotunately, it was a strategic product decision that seemingly can't be reversed/influenced, despite the inherent problems this causes.

Unable to create a layer

I am using CS5 which I have just bought.
When I try to use layers I can open my first photo as the background which is fine.
I then open a new layer, and my second photo. However instead of opening as a new layer it defaults as the background, replacing the original background.
I cannot copy or paste the new photos onto the "background."
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to cure it.
I am working in Windows 7

Thank you for your help, however I am still struggling.
I have opened the background, clicked "new layer" which brings up layer 1 in the panel down rhs above background.
I then opened a second picture to be layer 1 but this becomes the background and layer 1 disappears.
I double clicked on the name background which brought up the "New Layer" panel.
I clicked ok and the picture became Layer 0.
The background picture has completely gone, and the only panel down the panel down the rhs is Layer 0.
Across the top the background and the second picture are listed but the background is now named as Layer 1.
If I click on either of the photos they open in the main panel but I cannot open them together, and nor do they show down the rhs list.
I have had no problems in the previous versions I have used and can only imagine I have the incorrect settings somewhere but have no idea where to look.
Can anyone help me ............ PLEASE !

Unable to route bottom layer

My Ultiboard is not working correctly at all. I'm sure I've enabled all the options like Options>PCB Properties>Copper Bottom>Routable but I still get DRC errors saying:
"The object "Copper Polygon: Width(10.0000 mil) Layer(Copper Bottom)Clearance(10.0000 mil) Net(9) " is on a layer that is not allowed by the net settings"
The Autorouter refuses to use the bottom layer even though I have thru-hole parts that should be easily routable from the bottom. This is driving me crazy.

I am not sure which version you have, but you need to look at the bottom of the screen. There should be a spreadsheet view done there. In this spreadsheet you will find a list of tabs. Goto the tab that is labeled "nets" and click it. Once there go to the right and find the column that says "routing layer" and see what it says. If you transfered from Multisim it will probably say "10" which means to route the copper top only.
To change this i use this technique. I go down selecting all the nets with SHIFT>Left Mouse button and then once they are all highlighted I click on one net in the column and then enter the following based upon which side of the board you want routed
10 Copper Top
01 Copper Bottom
11 Both sides
Once you change one using this technique all of them will be changed as a group.
This works for me in the Power Pro Version. if you have a different version then I will have to go back and re-investigate how this can be done without the spreadsheet.

Why am I suddenly unable to see effects, layer styles, etc. in PSE 9?

Today I suddenly can't see any effects, layer styles, or photo efects in my PSE 9. I installed Pioneer Woman actions the other day and they had me do something with the mediadatabase. I don't know if that caused the problem, but I need to get all those back.

You need to quit the editor, delete the mediadatabase.db3 file again (don't rename, delete), and then relaunch the editor but don't do anything till you see the panels repopulate.

Matshita UJ-825 - Unable to read dual layer DVD+R

Haven't had any issues with my Matshita UJ-825 until now. Have a DVD+R DL full of photos, but the Matshita will not mount it. When I insert the DVD it sounds like the drive is working to mount it and then just spits the DVD back out. What's really strange, a co-worker has the same UJ-825 in a 12" Powerbook and he can mount the DVD, no problem. The only difference is his UJ-825 has firmware revision DAM5. Here's the specs under "System Profiler" for my drive:

I understand some people think "googling" is the end-all solution to finding resolution on certain issues. But, I wouldn't have posted here if I hadn't tried searching on Google to begin with.
On that note, does anybody have other ideas beside searching Google?
I know that Matshita is a part of Panasonic, but a search there turned up nil, as well.
Anybody know if it's possible to copy the firmware from one Matshita and then somehow flash another Matshita with that firmware?

Is it possible to make a layer selection include its blending effects?

For creating masks I'll often select all visible pixels in a layer (cmd+click the layer) but if the layer has any blending effects, e.g. a stroke or drop shadow, then this won't be included in the selection. Is it possible to include these in the selection?

A non-destructive method would be converting the layer(s) with blending effects, layer effects, etc. to a smart object. Then <CMD>-Click to select the entire thing.
The contents remains editable.
edit: it would be nice though, if we could do the same thing with a layer group. Group all your layers in a layer group, and when you <CMD>-click on that group, it selects the combined content. That's how it works in Photoline - very handy. I just tried in PH CS6, and it doesn't work that way. Perhaps in CC, or a future version?

CS5.5 Blending Modes Won't Work?

Being an avid user of AfterEffects CS4, the transition to CS5.5 was painless.. Except for the fact that the blending modes don't work. This has halted all my projects.
What happens is that when I select a blending mode, nothing happens. It shows that I set the layer to 'add', but absolutely nothing happens. I just got CS5.5 yesterday, so I haven't changed any settings that could mess it up (That I know of).
Any help would be appreciated!!!

I'm confused. Blending modes require two or more layers. They work to blend one layer with the layer beneath it. But you only have one layer. How are you determining that blending modes aren't working?

Well, I don't know where windows explorer comes in, but you want to take the .asl files (you must unzip them if they're in a zip file), and put them into C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photosho Elements\8.0\Photo Creations\layer styles. Then you will need to delete the file MediaDatabase.db3, which is in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photosho Elements\8.0\locale\en_US. When you next start PSE give it time to rebuild this file before you do anything (when you see the icons reappear in the effects panel, it's done).

Anyone else notice the bug in the "Blend RGB Colors Using Gamma" feature in Photoshop?

I think there's a bug in the "Blend RGB Colors Using Gamma" feature in Edit>Color Settings>Advanced Controls. For some reason it doesn't apply to layer styles.

Ok, here are two images. They both have a text layer with an outer glow (100% opacity pure green, normal blending mode) and a feathered green brush stroke (normal blending mode) over a red background. The first image is in RGB 8 bit (ie non-linear) image color mode. The second image is in RGB 32 bit (ie linear) image color mode. You can see how the 32 bit mode image (second image) has proper blending of the green glow onto the red background in both the text layer style as well as the brush stroke, while the 8-bit image properly blends the brush stroke but fails to blend the layer style using linear gamma (aka 1.0). In both screenshots you can see that PS is set to "Blend RGB Using 1.0 Gamma".
I'm assuming this is a bug?

? on moving items within layer groups

i am having trouble using layer groups. I have a layer group named Group 1 with 5 layers in it. Each layer contains 1 image. I'm unable to move 1 layer to center the image without all the other layers taking on the same position.Even if they aren't turned on, or selected. The only layer selected and turned on is the layer i want to move the image.
I don't have a lock on. Even if i turn off the other layers, once i turn them on again, poof - they all position incorrectly.
How can I turn off this glue type action from happeing?

I've never seen anything like the behaviour you are describing.
The only things that will cause layers to move together are the following conditions…
selecting multiple layers in the panel
Linking them as mentioned before (see the small link incon at the bottom of your layers panel)
highlighting and moving a group. This means using the move tool when a layer GROUP is highlighted not an individual layer
Your screen shot impies that none of this is happening. Reset your photoshop preferences by holding command option shift while launching the application.

Render out a blend mode

is there any way to render out a blend mode layer so when it's on normal it still looks like the blend mode with the transparency etc...
I want to export some design to .png files to use in a web page, and I need the blend mode to work with out the photoshop background. I don't think you can use blend mode in HTML, CSS or Dreamweaver.

Simply - no. Blend modes will only work within Photoshop files. Outside Photoshop they need to be rendered onto opaque or transparent pixels, to retain their appearance.
