Unable to Boot from Mac OS Tiger Server 10.4.0 Install CD

Hi,
I just picked up a Powermac G3 and am trying to install Tiger Server 10.4.0 from the install CD. The G3 won't boot from the CD (holding the c key at startup) and when I try to install from Open Firmware (using boot cd), I get the following message:
MAC PARTS: Load (noninterposed) not supported load-size0=adler32=1.
I'm assuming the above is bad news!
Other than booting, the CD appears to work fine. Also, the firmware is all up to date. The current version of OS on the G3 is 9.2.2 but unfortunately, I do not have any install disks for this (hence why I want to try and upgrade and install my legitimate server OS on it).
Other than that, all I can say is that it is a 300Mhz G3 Blue and White with what appears to be a 10gb hard drive. Other info from System Profiler is:
Ram: 256mb
Machine ID: 406
Mac OS Rom 9.2.1
I assume that Tiger would be a little bit choosy about some of the older hardware, but nevertheless would be grateful for any assistance as to whether this can be installed on this Powermac.
Thanks for your assistance.

Did some research and it appears that puting Tiger server on a B&W is a lot more difficult than puting Tiger (workstation?) on a B&W. (i.e. You're not the only one with this problem.) The offered solutions have been to take your hard drive out and install server on it from another machine - which you can't do with the machines you have... unless you swap the drive out of your iMac.... but that's up to you. I wouldn't risk it.
The other option is to spring for a DVD drive that will work in your B&W and boot from the DVD and install that way. You can pick them up for about $50. (I know that's about what your B&W is worth, but that's life...) If you go this route, make sure you get a DVD that Apple has written the drivers for (Pioneer, NEC, etc. ) and built into the OS installer. My personal drive is an NEC ND-3540A. Picked it up at NewEgg.com. That's what I had to do to get Tiger on mine.

  • Unable to boot from Mac OS X Server 10.5.4 disk

    Hi all,
I've just purchased a Mac Mini and Mac OS Server X 10.5.4 (upgraded to 10.5.6), and since I'm new at it, I wanted to reinstall my server to a fresh install.
So I inserted my CD, double-clicked on the Install icon, entered my password, and clicked Restart.
On restart, the system gives me a gray screen for about 10 seconds (no apple displayed) and reboots. It does this endlessly, over and over...
My CD seems in perfect condition and I was able to use it for my initial installation. So I doubt it's my CD.
Am I missing something, or should this work? Am I looking at a defective DVD reader or a defective Mac OS disk?
    Thanks!

Actually, I have no idea how you would do that. There is no 10.5.6 Server retail installer. 10.5.4 is the current retail version, but there is a 10.5.6 Server Combo Updater. My guess is you would need to install the version you have on an older Mac that will boot from 10.5.4, then upgrade it to 10.5.6 by downloading the combo updater. Then practically I would partition the Mini's hard drive, then clone the 10.5.6 updated server system to the second volume on the Mini's drive.

  • Unable to boot from disk. I have a Windows 7 installed and cannot login to it. I would like to remove windows and install the orginial or upgraded OS.

I have a MacBook Pro that has Windows 7 installed. I am no longer able to login in to windows. I would like to just start from scratch and rebuild the computer but when I try to boot from the OS install disk I am directed to the boot manger screen. The ony OS avaliable for me to boot to is Windows. I have even tried to use a DBAN disk and usb but nothing seems to work. any suggestions?

If you have inserted the Mac OS X install DVD disc in the DVD drive and used the Option key at boot and all you see on the screen that comes up is the Windows OS disk thenn your DVD drive has failed,
If you have not inserted the OS X install disc in the DVD drive then do that and at Startup/Restart Hold down the Option/Alt key and then select the DVD disc icopn that comes up.

  • Though the root disk is mirrored, server is unable to boot from alternate disk (mirror disk)

    Hi PPl,
It happened second time in a row. Though the root disk is mirrored, server is unable to boot from alternate disk (mirror disk)
When the disk was found faulty, still unable to boot the OS from alternate disk, it says it still probe/look for other disk
Here are the console log when I tried to boot the OS

In such condition left out with only two options.
    1)      Remove the faulty disk physically and boot
    (or)
    2)      Replace the faulty disk and boot it
Any way, I can disable the faulty disk in BIOS (or) booting from cd-rom and do something to avoid it?

You can't boot from systems earlier than that shipped with the computer. For example, early 2008 Mac Pros come with 10.5.1 and can't boot 10.5
Also you can't boot with a DVD that was shipped with a different model Mac.

  • How To Uninstall Mac OS Tiger Server

I recently upgraded my OS from 10.2.8 to MAC OS Tiger Server. I would like to uninstall the Tiger and Install my original OS again. Can someone tell me how I can go about doing that. Thanks!

    Hi
Its been some time since I and probably most of the guys on these forums have used 10.2 but I think the procedure is the same for when you uninstall any client OS.
Boot from your 10.2 Installer disk, proceed to the part that selects the drive, select Options, select Archive and Install. You should get a further option to either preserve network users and settings or not.
If you preserve Network users and Settings after the reinstall and on successful log in you should see a folder created called Previous Systems. It should be safe to delete this. If you don't preserve network users and settings then on reboot the mac will present you with the Client Setup Assistant and walk you through initially configuring the mac for first use. It should remind you of the first time you purchased the mac and took it out of its box. You should still see the Previous Systems folder but this time don't be tempted to delete it. Within this folder will be the previous admin account's home folder. This folder will retain things like mail, mail settings and other important settings that you may need. Also anything else saving in your Documents folder as well as the Desktop will be there not forgetting iTunes, iMovie and iPhoto stuff.
When the operating system is OS X Server the situation is slightly different. You don't get the option to archive and install. It will either upgrade an existing version of the OS, either client or server, install for the first time, or erase and install.
    Hope this helps, Tony

  • HT4889 Trying to migrate from Mac-mini Tiger to Mac-mini Lion and Migration Assistant cannot find my Firewire, 400 to 800, "T" disk although it show up in the new Mac's computer folder. Help

Trying to migrate from Mac-mini Tiger to Mac-mini Lion and Migration Assistant cannot find my Firewire, 400 to 800, "T" disk although it shows up in the new Mac's computer folder. It seems that Mac-mini Tiger is as it should be and the firewire cable is OK.  Something about the Migration Assistant is being missed, but I have no idea what it is.
    Help

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
    IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
    IOFireWireAVC.kext
    IOFireWireFamily.kext
    IOFireWireIP.kext
    IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

  • Can Mac mini October 2012 boot from Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)?

Can the Mac mini October 2012 boot from Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)?

Can the Mac mini October 2012 boot from Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)?
No. Your best option by far is to find updates or replacements for that long-obsolete software. In the long run, you'll have no other choice. As a last resort, you could do this:
Installing Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) into Parallels
The instructions are slightly out of date. That's not a recommendation and I haven't tried it myself.

  • Unable to Boot from Superdrive

CDs and DVDs will play fine but I can't BOOT from the superdrive. The same discs (OSX install disc and newest Diskwarrior) will PLAY in the drive. I just can't get the macbookpro to boot from them. I've tried holding down all the usual keystrokes at startup to no avail. What happens is that it chimes, waits a few seconds, then the screen goes black and it chimes again, repeating this over and over as long as any key is held down. Repaired permissions, ran Diskwarrior on it from another mac linked up with Target mode, but still I can't boot from the superdrive. I'm seeing other reports of this. Anyone find a solution?

Hmm... I haven't heard of this problem before... perhaps something went screwy in your firmware. Have you tried resetting the SMC and PRAM (the PRAM would more likely be the culprit)?

  • UCS Unable to boot from SAN

I have some blades that I'm unable to boot from SAN.  The weird thing is I can see the LUN's and I can install ESXi 5.5 fine.  It's up until I reboot and the blades just boot to the BIOS because they don't see any disk.  When I try to change boot order, the only thing I can boot to is UEFI.

When you see your lun, and can install ESXi, it means, that
    - your zoning is correct
    - your lun masking / mapping is correct
If boot fails, your boot policy is the problem ! are you sure, that the target pwwn points to the controller of the disksubsystem, that the lun nr. is correct ? we seen all kind of weird things, like cable crossed,.....

  • Upgrade from Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 to Snow Leopoard

I need to know how to Upgrade from Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 to Snow Leopoard. I just need to get the 29.00 Snow Leopard? no the 499$. just one server and no clients to him.
    thanks

You cannot use the standard desktop Snow Leopard upgrade on a machine running any flavor of OS X Server. There is a lot of 'under-the-hood' functionality that would not take well to attempting this and could render you with a dead Mac until you reinstall the original OS.
If you wish to keep the Server functionality, the Snow Leopard Server upgrade ($499) is the only option.
If you wish to ditch the Server functionality and use the standard desktop version, you would need a copy of the desktop version of OS X 10.5 Leopard and the ($29) Snow Leopard upgrade. Apple does sell both 10.5 and the Snow Leopard upgrade in a combo bundle.

    Same problem here in Brazil.
It seems to be a problem with logging in App Store in the Mac (Yosemite 10.10.2).
When I tried the very same userid and password I was able to login in to use my iCloud account from the same computer and also from my iPhone.
