Unable to boot: Mac HD verify error - invalid index key

Thank you in advance for your assistance. Please provide a detailed response. There is a lot I have to learn about computers.
I allowed my macbook air mid-2013 os x 10.10.2 to update yesterday. I didn't look at what the update was (just saw the notification and clicked restart). It shut down, but did not restart. When I try to boot, the loading bar slows and tops at approx 35%, and the computer shuts off. I can boot in recovery mode. In disk utility, on the left side the first line is Macintosh HD. I can verify this without errors. The second line is also Macintosh HD written in lighter grey. I cannot interact with this until I click unlock and type in my password. After doing so, it is written in dark black, and I then have the option to verify disk. Doing so, I am given the follow error in the log:
(in red) Invalid index key.
(in red) Invalid record count.
(in red) The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely.
(in black) File system check exit code is 8.
(in red) Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk.
A pop-up message says:
Disk Utility stopped verifying "Macintosh HD"
This disk needs to be repaired.
I click an "ok" box, but the Repair Disk button is not available.
At this point, I noticed the "mount" button is available. If I click this, it says:
Mount Failed
The disk "Macintosh HD" could not be mounted.
Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting.
Of course, the only option in First Aid is Verify Disk, which I have already done.
I also tried reinstalling OS X from safe mode, but the installation failed. I would ideally like to fix this without losing any data, but my computer is backed up so it won't be terrible if I have to start fresh. My SSD failed on my macbook air 2012, so I hope this isn't happening again.
Thank you.

  • "Invalid Index Key" Error - External HFS+ Drive

So I've got this external drive (Seagate Freeagent Go) that I formated with the Journaled filesystem. All of a sudden yesterday I could not access the drive after restarting my computer and when I could no longer see it on my desktop I opened Disk Utility. DU was able to see the drive and the partition but couldn't mount it, and when I ran a Verify/Repair I got the following:
    Verify and Repair volume “Artimis”
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Invalid index key
    Rebuilding Catalog B-tree.
The volume Artimis could not be repaired.
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
Can anyone help me with a potential fix? I've had no power surges and had just been using the drive with no issues the night before

It's possible that Disk Warrior may be able to repair the drive's directory. If not you will have to reformat it.

  • Invalid index key - hard drive/ OS problems

After a power surge, I was unable to boot up (using 10.5.1). However, running repairing disk permissions solved this. I still have lots of issues with the hard drive itself though - mainly with files being reported as lost, incorrect reports of the hard drive being full, lag, crashes, etc. Tried Disk Utility and Fsck, neither have been able to repair the hard drive - both report an invalid index key or problems with the catalog file.
Is Disk Warrior the only solution, or would a format and clean install possibly solve the problem? At the moment I can still access my hard drive, and a back-up then clean install is a much easier (and less costly) solution for me.
    Thank you!

"Invalid index key" is a much more serious error than you're likely to actually have, since you can mount the hard disk and access files on it. If the Catalog's index key is invalid, the whole filesystem is basically trashed. It's far more likely that other components were damaged by the power surge.
In my experience, the most common components to fail this way are the logic board and/or the RAM, which means a potentially expensive trip to your local Mac repair shop.
Sometimes a computer that was damaged by a power surge behaves better if it's placed behind a line conditioner, but your mileage may vary. Most good surge protectors are also line conditioners.

  • Unable to boot Mac OS X

Yesterday I decided to install Windows on my MacBook. I had both a Windows XP installation disk and a Vista Upgrade disk. I successfully did both according to the Boot Camp instructions. After tweaking Vista and downloading software and upgrades that I wanted to use on Vista I tried to reboot Mac OS X and I can't. What happens is the grey Apple logo appears for a split second and is then replaced by a circle with a line through it like a do not enter sign. From here my computer just boots up Vista. I have tried booting Mac OS X by choosing to do so through the Boot Camp Control Panel in Vista and have also just tried turning the computer off and booting up using the option key to select the Macintosh partition. Both ways produce the same result I described above. If anybody knows how I can fix this problem that would be great! Thanks!

try booting off the leopard installation disk and run disk utility and verify the disk and disk permissions. if nothing shows up wrong there, you might have to reinstall the mac system. you won't have to delete any data for this, just archive the old system and make a new one (yes, you can do this all off booting up on the leopard disk).

  • Unable to download/upgrade App World - Error Invalid manifest or application descriptor.

I have tried to download 7.1, but it seems it is not available for my region (Chile). I have checked on 'Software Updates' on the device, where it indicates"Your Blackberry is up to date" and doesn't offer any option to update.  I have also checked on the Blackberry website, and it also tells me there are no updates available. It tells me I have this version on my phone: 7.0 2395 (v. 7.0.0.579, platform 5.0.0.735). It seems that the version releases may be related to geographical location and Carrier (I have Entel PCS as my carrier.) I re-installed the latest update of 7.0 that the website would allow me to do, then tried to download AppWorld, but no success.

    Hello
    I have a Bold 9900, software 7.0
I have had problems with App World for several months. The App on my phone indicated that an upgrade is available, however when I went to upgrade I received the following message: Error : Invalid manifest or application descriptor.
    The "MIDLet-Name" attribute is missing.
After several failed attempts trying to download the upgrade I finally deleted App World from my phone to try to re-install it directly from the phone, but this gives me the above error message.
I have tried to update it using the appworld.blackberry.com site, but was unsuccessful. After deleting App World from my phone the appworld site no longer recognizes my device and tells me to "Please connect your device" when I click the 'My World' link.
When I try to download AppWorld from the Blackberry website, I receive this message:
"Downloads via a USB connection are not enabled for this product. Please visit our mobile download site using the browser on your BlackBerry® smartphone."
I've hard rebooted the device repeatedly, hoping that this would help, but it hasn't.
    Any ideas?

    Hi All,
Thanks for having a look at this.
The Problem is that at ISA wron g server is maintained and wrong service principal name is maintained adn after changing this the problem is solved.
From the research i can say that there are 2 things  we need to look at  when we have this issue.
    1. Password
    2. Serviceprincipalname
    Kind Regards

  • When booting I get an Error 0210: Stuck Key 01 Lenovo Thinkpad

    Hello,
When powering on I get this error
    "Error 0210: Stuck Key 01
Press <F1> to Setup" Please give your valuable suggestions. Thanks in advance. Sukumar

    Hi Sukumar,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that you are getting stuck key error in your Lenovo ThinkPad.
Stuck key error means that one or more keys on the keyboard are stuck. It's possible that a liquid spill can also cause one or more keys to electrically "short" causing the error. Inspect the keyboard and check if any keys are mechanically stuck.
If you're mechanically handy you can remove the keyboard, inspect any chances of damage or corrosion. Plug it back and see if error is still occurring.
Reset BIOS to default settings. Perform Flee Power – remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer. Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and turn ON the computer.
If none of the above said helped to resolve your concern, I strongly recommend you to contact our technical support for assistance.
Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.
    Best Regards,

  • Macbook Leopard 10.5 is not booting up and not even getting Verified Error : Invalid Node Structure

Hey, I am using Macbook Leopard 10.5, Yesterday while i was working it was on low battery i thought to connect it later, but all of a suddent its stopped fucntioning and everything goes blank. I thought it might be a Battery problem, but even after connecting charger for 2-3 hours, its not booting up. Only the Apple screen comes and then it goes shut down automatically.
I even tried to fix it using Apple CD, Disk utility, When i tried to Verify the disk It shows following error :

  • Unable to boot Mac OS after 10.6.5 update

Just a question. Dont know whether its due to the 10.6.5 update. After reboot to windows. I can't log in To my Mac os anymore. It just get stuck at the grey apple logo and bar comes out and loads and it shuts down soon after. In windows when I log on it says that my Mac hdd is corrupted. Mount anyway or cancel.
Anyway my question is can I reformat my Mac hdd and reinstall SL without interfering with my windows partition (boot camp)

Use the Archive and Install, Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature, option to reinstall SL. This saves your Home folder. Also it saves your old Home/Library folder in a "Previous System" folder in case there are any preferences or support files of applications that require activation codes or S/Ns.
Repair disk permissions after the reinstall. Then apply the latest SL updater and repair permissions again.
After you're satisfied all is well you can delete that previous folder.

  • Unable to boot mac OS X Lion after windows 7 installation using boot camp!

    Hi,
I'm first time mac user & recently bought the latest entry level mac mini model 2.3GHz 599$ (http://www.apple.com/macmini/specs.html).
The machine by default came with OS X Lion.
I was trying to install genuine windows 7 on my mac mini using boot camp. I had the windows installation CD the download part for windows support software was taking too long & I foolishly skipped this crucial part set aside 70GB for win7 & continued the installation. The windows installation was done successfully with no machine specific drivers installed yet. I thought I would get some grub like thing to select OS at boot time but everytime it boots to windows. Is it since I missed downloading/installing windows support software? Please help me out to get my mac back
I've not done much of googling to troubleshoot it but bit of nervous for my foolishness at skipping that downloading part.

That was quite dumb question, the RTFM issue
Booted from macintosh HD at startup & removed the windows installation.

    Please help me
    thanks in advance

    Hi Gyan
    thanks for your reply
by appending it to the existing VO
do you mean that i have to add the attribute to the end of the already existing(seeded VO ) VO also ?
I have added a attribute to the new VO that i have created
    Fo eg
I have a seeded VO say TestVO
and i want to extend it
so i create a new VO TestVOEx
I have added a new attribute to the TestVoEx
Do you want me to add the attribute to the TestVO also ??

  • Test to creat BDMV = Error: "invalid index", code: "14"

Test for creating BDMV by Encore CS4:
    1. Project: short clip (3'50")+simple menu.
    2. Result after an import:

    3. Result after an "build>folder":

    Have you some ideas?

    Procedure is : videocam Sony HC7 -> Liquid 7.2  -> Adobe Encore CS4.
I think, it's not problem of video format incompatibility. See below 2 and 3. Input file and transcoded file have the same specification.
Lооk at this step by step.
    1. Output from Sony HC7 to Liquid 7.2
    2. Output from Liquid to Encore (Encore status is “don’t transcode”).
    3. For compare – Encore transcoded file.
    4. Output stream  (BDMV/stream).

  • IPod Classic - 80GB - Invalid Index Key. Won't Sync.

So, my friend recently gave me his old iPod Classic 80gb 6th generation. I restored it, then began to sync it with my itunes library. It began to sync, but then froze. iTunes and Finder became frozen. I had to force quit iTunes and then unplug the iPod and restart finder to get everything in order. The iPod still doesn't work. I ran the disk utility and got the results as follows.

I would really appreciate a free solution to this problem as I can't live without my music.
    Thank you very much.

So I had a similar problem on my 120 gig classic. After months of go around with the repairs department, we finally figured out the problem. ITUNES 9.0.3, KILLS THE HARD DRIVE on classics. What you need to do is get apple support to send you a REPLACEMENT, do NOT accept a repair, as they are idiots and only try to sync maybe one song, don't get the problem, and will send it RIGHT back to you, unfixed. Believe me, it is a Hard Drive issue. Once you get your new ipod, UNINSTALL itunes 9, and go back to using 8.2.1, it will work believe me. Hope this helps.

  • Install failed invalid index key

I tried to install Leopard and the install failed and then my MacBook Pro would not restart. It would give the start up tone, then would just sit. I tried the disk utility and it would not repair permissions or the disk but it would show some problems including an "invaild index key". I went to the Apple Store and bought DiskWarrior. I asked one of the genius's about the problem and he thought I would have to reformat my hard drive. I went home and ran DiskWarrior and it fixed everything. I then installed Leopard with no more problems.
I hope this helps somebody else.

Perseverance pays off. Great work. Sometimes even a "genius" is not correct, and once again, DiskWarrior comes through.
