Unable to boot normally or restore to factory fresh on original generation1 Apple Tv

Hi,
Not sure what I did but here is the problem I have with my original gen1 apple TV (40GB).
Now everytime it reboots it comes up with these options.
1) First comes with Language options : I select ENGLISH and it switches to that language
2) Then, I am asked to choose a resolution : I choose 720p
Then, the following 3 options are given
3) Restart
4) Run Diagnostics
5) Factory Restore
Now if I Restart, it comes to the same recovery options as above. I see that the apple logo goes off and comes back during the boot process. This probably indicates a crash. I am not sure though. The hard drive works normally and no clicks are heard. If I run Diagnostics, it says everything is ok with the ATV. But factory restore fails with the following message "Your apple TV could not be restore to original factory condition" In other words I dont get the regular menu and the box appears to be bricked. The LED is blinking amber during the boot but turns off after the boot.
Is there anyway I can come out of this? Can I reinstall the OS or something? I do not have a cloned image or something like that. I am desperately looking for a solution. Can the ATV connect to iTunes via USB like the iphone or ipad at this point? I have downloaded the dmg OS file but dont know how to install it fresh. Will replacing the hard-drive solve the problem? Please help  !!!
Thanks
Sinu

Please help me out here. I tried booting it off a USB flash drive with ATV flash but that gave me some errors and prompted me to login with username [email protected] with password frontrow
But I am not sure how to get to login using a suitable input. I tried to telnet it using my PC over network but I dont think it has initialized anything (like wifi or network) at the prompt. Would it take USB keyboard input? All I can do is remove the power and restart it with the usb flash out and get into then get into the recovery loop. I am not sure replacing the hard-drive would help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

  • Unable to boot normally - Always need to boot with Single User Mode

    Hi Community,
Since last few days, I am unable to boot my Macbook Pro normally, running latest version of OS X Yosemite. When I boot, it goes to grey screen with Apple logo and progress bar, once the progress completes to 100% (after 5-10 minutes which is very longer than usual), it asks me to 'Select  language' which seems like fresh installation of OS X. In that case, when I click next and it doesn't detect my SSD (blank list of select installation disk/drive).
After reading some threads, I found work-around and always need to boot into Single user mode (by pressing Command+S during power on) and then need to run following commands...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
"device is write protected" numerous times
    reboot
and then only it loads OS X and displays login screen. This happens all the times and I need to follow above steps always to get login screen.
    How can I fix this?

  • Unable to boot Win 7 after cleaning factory installed Win 8.1_shuts down at preparing desktop

I had factory installed Win 8.1 on my HP P 206TX laptop but I wanted to install some software which does not support any OS above Win 7, so I wanted to remove this.
    I did the following process:-
    1. Created Win 8.1 recovery media(DVD) for future usage.
    2. BIOS setting:-
       a. Secure boot - Disabled
       b. Legacy boot - Enabled
    3. Cleaned hard disk through DISKPART
    4. Converted GPT to MBR
    5. Installed Win 7 Ultimate 64bit (DVD).......almost done till preparing desktop....
Then just during preparing desktop, system logged off, shut down and restarted....
But the restart does not boot windows at all.
It only shows "press ESC for startup menu" and then restarts again with the same process repeating again & again.
I have tried Repair through Win 7 DVD but it shows "this version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows".
Please help as I am unable to find any solution anywhere on the internet.
I hope HP can help me...PLEASE

    Hi
According to your machines support pages on HP website, Windows 7 drivers are not available for your machine this is more than likely the issue you are having . If you want to run software through Windows 8.1 that is not compatible for Windows 8.1 you can always run a Virtual box and install Windows 7 to Virtual box and run software via there..
Google search Virtual box --- download and install then install your ISO image of Windows 7 and go from there..

  • Unable to boot normal, in safe mode or from install DVD

When I walked into my office this morning and hit my keyboard to wake my Mac all I saw on the screen was a white mouse arrow and a black screen. I held down the power button to restart, it starts to boot and then stops at a gray screen telling me to hold down the power button and restart. Doing this brings me to the same screen. I have attempted the following:
Booting while holding the Shift key - this takes a bit longer but takes me to the same gray screen
Booting with the install DVD in and holding the "c" key - DVD spins a bit then gray screen
Booting while holding "option" and selecting the install DVD - DVD spins a bit then gray screen
Booting in Single User mode and ran "/sbin/fsck -fy" it returned - *** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***, ran it again and returned - ** The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK
I am not sure where to go from here, and advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • USB Boot does not work on factory fresh device

SO we're working on adopting the surface pro 3 for our organization. I've just run into an issue. We're currently bootstrapping the SCCM OSD process off of USB thumbdrives, we have are working on upgrading to a supported PXE platform, but for now we have
to use the thumbdrives. The issue is, on a fresh, out-of-the-box Surface Pro 3, the Power-button + Volume Down will NOT boot of of USB. The only thing that works is to keep booting in the factory sysprep until it finally asks to take you to advanced recovery
options where you can then select the USB device and it works fine from there. After the device has been imaged, the volume down + power trick works every time, just not when straight out of the box. This is obviously an issue fore the guys doing the imaging
as it slows them down considerably. Any ideas why this is happening?

That sounds rough...  I have new surface pro 3 devices and haven't encountered this problem.  If I had to speculate, I would say you have a firmware issue.
Try this to confirm.  Let the device boot up into the out of box image, and then let windows update patch the thing to completion and try again.  Not all that comforting if indeed you have this problem... did you purchase them a few months ago
and are just now firing them up?  Maybe the ones we have here have a later firmware.

  • Vista will not boot/install after performing a restore to factory settings on satellite l305

I have a satellite l305 that i bought new thru walmart.com about a year & a half ago, and for the past few months it seems like there are more & more issues with this pc that are causing it not to work properly-everything from drivers failing-or even disappearing, in some cases-to  crashing into a blue screen everytime i insert a micro sd card into the slot.. My sound drivers are gone & even after i THOUGHT i downloaded them again, they still won't install or even recognize that they are there and then yesterday it suddenly stopped being able to fully load some of my fave games  that i play daily.. I have tried EVERY SINGLE SUGGESTION in EVERY  article, forum, help site, etc.,that i could find & even tried to get help over the phone from a pc tech here locally, and nothing has been able to fix my issues. I have done so many system restores from so many different restore points, installed updates, uninstalled updates, tried to install new drivers, rolled back drivers, started in safe mode to do diagnostics checks, entered BIOS & checked EVERY setting, reset all settings to default, checked error logs, etc., etc., etc...I have even completely disassembled my entire laptop & checked all wiring, fuses, etc., made sure everything was working, etc., So, finally yesterday I decided that it's gotta be something to do with a tech issue-probably with my vista home premium OS that came pre-installed at purchase, so i thought it best to just go ahead & go into the back up & restore & back up all my files onto an external hd using the file transfer wizard option inside the restore center, and then proceed into restoring the pc to it's factory, or "out of box", state. And i assumed i covered my bases by saving the back up-just in case...ohhh no-not the case at all!
It did't even occur tp me to that i might need an actual BOOT disk for vista after the fact. I just assumed that "out of box" meant just how it originally came-WITH vista pre-installed & ready to set up-like it did the day i bought it! i also was under the assumption that, isnce it never asked for a product key or anyting to activate vista then, that it wouldn't need one now either. But anyway, so this is where i'm at now-after i did the factory restore & turned it back on, it said to wait while windows finishes installing-but it never finished, then finally about an hour later, it said that windows was unexpectedly interrupted during installation & did not complete, and for me to restart pc to try install again. But after i did that, it was the same thing over & over. it NEVER installs!
So then i decided to go ahead & "restore windows using back up image" that i created on my external hd prior to  the factory restore, thinking that  it would just kinda pu **bleep** all back, but thats not working either. it recognizes the drive, and takes me to a menu where i can actually even view all the files on the drive and even tho they are known by my pc to be back up files, it still won't associate them to being back up files to MY PC!! I even got desperate enough to find a site that claimed to offer a free vista boot disk in the form of an iso image that i burned onto cd & tried to boot from as well. That actually took me to an install screen for windows & all the way to where it asks for product key-which DID NOT come locatedon any sticker anywhere on my laptop, and because they DID NOT include any OS utility, install, or boot disks with the purchase of my laptop, i don't know what the product key is OR where else i might be able to find that info, and i WILL NOT pay for ANOTHER ONE,  just because they were too lazy or cheap to send  the disks with the pc! so i tried to skip this step till later, but when i skip it, it shows anpther error saying that install was terminated & could not finish install & if i wish to continue, for me to restart my pc & re-attempt install..WHAT IS GOING NE WITH THIS AND WHAT CAN I POSSIBLY DO TO JUST BE ABLE TO USE MY LAPTOP AGAIN?? HELP ME PLEASE SOMEONE!!

    Hi,
I do not really understand... Did you made a backup before restore to factory settings? And did you copy all backup files to an external device? If not, the data is gone!
Why? Restoryng to factory does not mean a reinstallation. It means to fill the whole harddisk with an image of the first (factory) installation. All other data will be destroyd! Other partitions are deleted and normally you find only one big partition - the whole hdd.
If you have a complete backup on external drive and it is corrupted during restore, try to open the files manually. Maybe you can restore some single files.
    Good luck
    kind regards
    Stefan

  • TS3899 My email on my iPhone won't allow me to trash old messages -- I get "unable to move message" "message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash"  I have restored to factory settings, asked AT&T about it (no help).

my iphone won't allow me to trash old email messages -- I get the little window that says "Unable to Move Message -- The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash." AT&T can't help me -- no one else has this problem, even though we're all on the same server from my company. I have restored to factory settings, but it didn't help. My email account settings are correct, the same as on my computers, and I can trash old messages on them.
    What do I do now?

I have had a similar problem recently and followed advice here. Specifically, I used the brute force approach. As suggested by this site, I strongly urge you to backup your mailbox before trying this fix - just to be on the safe side.

Is it normal for apple tv to take up to 90 minutes to restore to factory settings?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
No, that's not normal, should be no more than a couple of minutes. Updating afterwards may take a little longer since it depends on your network speeds.

It all depends on the definition of "factory unlocked". If the phone was purchased directly from Apple and the receipt says "Unlocked" then updating or restoring it will leave it unlocked (Apple never uses the term "factory unlocked" as there is no such thing; phones are unlocked at activation time). Similarly, if it had been locked to a carrier and the carrier authorized it to be unlocked, and you went through the unlocking steps they provided, it is permanently unlocked.
Unfortunately, a lot of the phones sold as "factory unlocked" were actually unlocked by hacking in the "factory" in the basement of some shop somewhere. These phones at best will become locked to the original carrier if restored, and in the worst case will be permanently disabled if restored.

  • HT4061 IOS6.1 corrupted during install. Ipad now wont boot, stuck in recovery mode. Wont restore to factory settings, get error 3194. HELP !!

    Hi.
I have just tried to update Ipad to IOS6.1, but it failed during install. The pad now seems to be stuck in recovery mode.
I have tried to restore to factory settings but I get a error code 3194
During attempted restore the restore screen does not show the Ipad name, serial number or software version number.
Any suggestions, I think it may need to be sent away to be repaired, and i fear this will be very expensive!!!

  • Unable to do normal boot on Z580

I have a Lenovo Z580, and I can't get it to boot properly.  After powering up I see the F2 prompt and then a window offering 3 boot choices: CD, hard drive, and network.  If I choose the hard drive, it just cycles back to the same window.
That's the description of the problem in a nutshell, but there's lots more to say.  I had the system working correctly with multiboot (2 versions of Linux, plus Windows 7) for several months.  The problem started when I split one of the Linux partitions (it had plenty of extra space) and installed a new release of Linux in half the partition, leaving the existing Linux in the other half.  That messed up the partition numbering, so I used gparted to move the new Linux to a location after all existing partitions (by copying and deleting the original).  That seems to have corrected the partition numbering, but after all of this I still cannot boot normally.
I do have a baroque workaround, however.  I boot SuperGrub from a memory stick (memory stick bootup does work) and then from SuperGrub I can select and start the older Linux (Kubuntu 12.10).  That's what I'm running from at this very moment and using to post this message.  But that's clearly not a long-term solution.
My guess is that there's something wrong with the MBR, but the usual fixes don't cure it.  I've tried the sequence
       update-grub
       grub-install /dev/sda
    and also
       install-mbr /dev/sda
    but that doesn't help.

    Hi
    Welcome To Lenovo Community
We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,
Based on what I read from your post it seems there is some issue with the MBR, and to resolve this issue I would suggest a fresh installation should fix the issue for you . Since you are able to boot up to the old Linux version using the usb stick
Do give this a try and let us know
    Hope This Helps
    Cheers!!!

  • [Solved] Unable to boot (startup job is running)

    Hi there!
Today I went home and tried to boot my laptop there, but was unable to boot Arch.
Before I went home I did a system update using  ' sudo pacman -Syu '  and shut the laptop off normally. Right now I get the following message whilst booting:
" A startup job is running for dev-disk...25EFDCE0.device"
It fails after 1 min. 30s and shows a time out error for dependency /mnt/6776F38425EFDCE0, and refuses to boot. I waited for 5 min. but the only thing working at that stage is the shut down button (which appears to enter a normal shutdown mode).
Grub 2 is functioning; Windows 8 boots up fine (same HDD); though all options to boot arch fail because of the 'startup job error message'.
Do any of you know how I can fix this, or how to boot/fix arch such that I can attempt to fix it? Based on a search trough this forum it might be an error in FSTAB,  although all cases reported on this forum appear to boot normally after the 'a startup job is running 'error message'.
    Many thanks.

    Thank you for your response.
Changing the UUID's to /dev/sdaX did not do it's magic, unfortunately. The ' a start job'  message is gone, the boot however gets stuck at
/dev/sda2 clean .... (beginning of boot)
Unfortunately I did not properly save the back-up of my fstab file, so the initial set up is lost. Was able to acces arch using alt+f2 and have restored it manually with
    lsblk -f
It currently looks like this. I did have a line to automount my data partition (/dev/sda4, label: Data), but didn' t know how to restore that one as that line got deleted too.  My gut says this automount was causing the initial error, but it should boot up normally with the current fstab file, right?

  • Unable to boot from cloned MacOS 10.6.8 server

    Hi there,
we've successfully restored a MacOS 10.6.8 server image to an Intel Xserve. However, there seems to be a boot cache issue. Sometimes I am unable to boot and MacOS Server won't restart. The Xserve restarts twice on the gray Apple screen. Than it's hanging on the gray Apple screen. no disk activity for minutes. I've waited 30 minutes. I had to power down the server. After that the  server boots normally. no errors in verbose mode during startup.
I am using 3 volumes (all 3 using the same system clone). All Bay drives using the original Apple Disks. They are brand new. <29 hours.
Resetting the NVRAM a couple of times didn't solve the issue. The booting error is reproducible. This system runs fine and it's really clean. I just installed the latest MacOS 10.6.8 combo Update
I don't know what else I can I do? I really appreciate any help on this.

Sorry for the delay in responding.
Thank you, Peter. The Xserve running fine so far. We've had any boot issue.
