Unable to boot up, not sure if it's the OSX, HDD, or maybe the SATA cable
So my Macbook pro takes up to 10 tries to boot up. What happens is itll turn on, apple logo will show up and progress bar gets to about 1/3. Then the screen turns gray and stays gray and then it restarts. However, once it is on i have no problems whats so ever. What ends up happening is if put the computer in sleep and wake it up it will freeze and i have to force restart and i back at the problem. I can not even boot up in safe mode. When i try to boot up with safe mode and verbose, after the intial screen with all the readings the screen turns gray and its the same problem. I have tried reinstalling Yosemite (clean install and just a reinstall) I have tried resetting SMC and PRAM. In verbose mode i noticed that it says it was unable to find bootcache.playlist so i tried this http://hkexperts.net/barry/fix-unable-to-open-vardbbootcache-playlist-for-osx/ but i get an error saying that there was no such file. It is also worth noting that i have bootcamp with windows 7 and I can boot in safe mode but if i try a regular boot i get stuck trying to boot or i get a blue screen. At this point i am ready to replace my HDD but i have heard that the SATA cable might also be an issue. Is there a way for me to be sure?

Take out the HDD and install it into an enclosure. Connect it to the MBP via USB and use startup manager to boot the MBP:

If the boot(s) shows no problems, the it points to an internal connection problem, the SATA cable.

I'll ask this again. I'm running Yosemite, LR 4.4 everything was running fine and I'm not sure if this is connected but when I loaded the last security update from Apple I started getting the "no content" box when I tried to publish to Flickr (Facebook OK), now I can't get it to authorize, I loaded 3rd party JR plug in and still get can't authorize. Can anybody help? Basically LR is useless, it has been nothing but problems.

When I view my ipohotos on my mac air that have been uploaded from my iphone, sometimes my computer just shuts down. It is when I have the iphoto open. I'm not sure which version this is...I bought the computer about four months ago.

I have downloaded every update and my battery life is better than any previous iPhone I have ever owned. I see posts from hundreds of people every day, and this is not a commonly reported problem. While there are a few random reports of battery problems, it is no more than I have seen for any other model or any other version of iOS in almost 8 years. I have an ipad running 8.1.1. I lost all of my movie thumbnails after one of the system updates, but I'm not sure which one since I don't look at the movies that ofter.How do I restore my thumbnails. They are fine in itunes on my imac that I sync with.

So what? The second-hand shop you bought it from didn't follow the right procedures. You also didn't follow the right procedures to make sure that iPhone was not in Activation Lock. It's like buying a car for cash but not getting the title signed over to you. It's not your car if you don' have the title. And that's not legally your iPhone if the previous owner's Apple ID is still registered to the device for Find My iPhone/Activation Lock.
Only a proof of purchase from the ORIGINAL retail store would do any good at all. Return the device to where you bought it and demand your money back. If they refuse, either get a lawyer and/or turn in the device to local police. If you're in possession of stolen property, then the cops won't care about where you got it from. -

How did she change her AppleID?
If she simply updated the AppleID (not created a new one with a new email address), log out then log back into iTunes store. -

The error code is a short Disk Self Test failure and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced. This is also consistent with the start-up issue.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.

I have completed the slide show i am making, but not sure what to do now. I want to burn it to a dvd, but not sure if i can do that from iphoto or do i need to export to imovie or idvd? If i need to export, will iphoto save a copy in iphoto? This may be really stupid, but I don't see an obvious way to save my slide show in iphoto. Please Help!
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar. Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com. Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

I downloaded a new font (Lato) and stretched some of the type. It appears fine on the screen and print preview but is distorted on my printed copy. I have tried to convert all text to outlines and selected that preset in the pdf dialog box but this still hasn't solved the problem. I'm not sure if this is even the problem - I would really appreciate help! thanks so much!
Ok I found a site that has a free version of this font and Font Agent Pro found nothing wrong wit it so I loaded it. And I then opened it and saved it as a pdf and then printed it from Acrobat with no problems and looks fine in Acrobat and Illustrator.

This is a very novice question so apologies in advance. Apple software update has been advising me to apply an update for this for some time, but I am not sure what this is. I don't think I ever used Apple Remote Desktop to need applying an update, and I am concerned that by updating this, it will activate a functionality which I never consciously used.
Rather than to heed the "don't argue, just update everything Apple tells you to" approach, I thought to ask for an advice before proceeding. I am afraid I am a novice user of OS/X and therefore my usage is fairly primitive. I do not access my Mac remotely nor wish for anyone else to start accessing it remotely.
Any advice would be appreciated.The Client component is installed in all OS X istallations (Similar to screen sharing) - if you don't have ARD anywhere you can ignore, athough if you ever use screen sharing I would be tempted to install anyway.

Just over a week ago I bought a refurb Powerbook G4 via a power reseller on ebay. The first time I switched it on it froze said OSx had quit unexpectedly... assumed I had done something wrong as not very techie so forced shut down and started again. It is saying the same message frequently and freezing... report says unresolved kernel etc etc etc.
I emailed the apple specialist I bought it off and he advises restarting by inserting the OSX disc and pressing down the C button to reboot from there then selecting disk utility, hard disk and repair. He says it shouldn't be happening as it was fully tested before dispatch?? The only thing I have loaded is an update to adobe and Software for my 3 dongle but as it was freezing before I loaded either of these I don't think they can be responsible??
Please can somebody advise if this is a serious problem. I believe I have warranty for 14 days on this item and I am worried I may have bought myself into a problem. Is this a simple thing to repair. Does he mean me to hold down the C key on the alpha keyboard or the ctrl key? (I emailed him and asked him that 2 days ago and he hasn't responded, hence my worries)... I am sorry if that is a stupid question but I really am not very techie at all.....
Should I just ask for my money back??? If it is a simple repair do I just literally push the disc in, push the power button and hold down the C button?
Any advice would be really apprciated.....

That's where I would begin, too, with
Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.

Livecycle: Not sure how to create a database to connect to the form
Trying to create a data base to connect to the form so I can reference to .
1. What does the data base system need to be... (Word, Excell, something else? No Clue here)
2. How do I categorize the cells in the data base to be readable in livecycle forms?
3. Once I have created the data base does this have to be on a server to be read, I just have my desktop is that ok or do I need to upload the database to something else "Wow I'm clearly over my head here"
4. Once I have a data base created how do I tell the form to find the data base and use the information created in the data base to populate other fields.
5. Can the forms capture information on the data base?
Its a lot basically trying to learn everything in one shot. I'll see how it goes. Any info would be great or reference on where to get started. I have looked at the adobe help window, but even that I'm lost.

The programs that you mention are not databases. Excel can be made to look like one but it is tricky. I remember Thom Parker wrote an article on this....here is the link.You will have to sign up to his site to get the text:

I suggest you start with these resources and then go from there.
Note that if you go down this path that access to Databases can only be done through full Acrobat or for Reader users by Reader Extending the form using LiveCycle Reader Extensions server. The Reader Extensions capablity in Acrobat does not supply this functionality.

If I open a movie file (appears to be any type - .mov, m4v, mv4) it displays on the desktop, but when clicked, the Mac reverts to another open application (immediately UNDER to point of the mouse click) and not the displayed movie file. It appears the screen mapping is flawed...
Anyone else have this problem? (does not appear to be a problem with QT7) Running OSX Lion 10.7.3 and QT Player 10.1 (501.8) - all most current as far as I can tell...Yes, same problem. The active clickable area appears to be shifted down and to the right as if it is the shadow mask (to make it look like layers in the display) that is responding. Means you can't move the control palette to the top of the window (to not block security video with time track at bottom) or even close the window. The X in the bubble appears when moused over but the click goes through it.
Most obvious if you open more than one movie at a time and they cascade. You can't get at the ones underneath until a few down the stack and it gets an upper wrong one.
Who's testing these things?
For comparison testing to recreate problem: Mac Pro (System Information has also been dumbed down from System Profiler, push System Report for the useful stuff) with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 driving two displays.
Also viewing desktop of another computer on the network is slower and, for instance in World of Warcraft, the hand pointer flickers.
And finder windows can't be narrowed as much any more to show only a list of file names for drag and drop sorting.
Was hoping that by 10.7.3, it would be safe to jump, since several posts told me how to Terminal > networksetup -setv6off Ethernet to fix iTunes streaming to expresses and other dumb bugs. -
