Unable to BOOT-Windows XP

Hi,
Just a few days back when i was surfing the net and the computer suddenly restarts and I get this Blue Screen and at the end it says,"Beginning to Dump Physical Memory". I restarted the computer and then no error message. The next
day when to try to ON the computer i get this PXE-e53 No File Name Received and with some realtek external Controller stuff on top. I shut downed the computer. Next day no errors. I started surfing the net about this
PXE-MOF problem and found out that The Boot Device Priority in BIOS would solve it. I tried it and it was fine for that time only.
Next day I ON the PC -same error, restart it(works) and again surf the net and found out that I have to Disable NIC configuration and check the cables of HDD. When i went and searched in the BIOS and couldn't find NIC. But did find a Boot To Network in the
Boot Tab and i disabled it. It removed 'Ethernet' from the Boot Device Priority. I save it and restart the PC and this time I get a message " Boot Failure. Press Any Key To Continue". I restarted and enable Boot to Network in BIOS and I get the PXE
error again.I Restarted the PC and restored Defaults in BIOS but same error(PXE).
Next day I asked my Dad to open the PC and check the cables. He opened it and removed the two cables attached to the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and then he removed the dust from the HDD and put everything back into place. We ON the PC and it finally worked....................
I go to the bedroom and when I return I see this irritating Blue screen again ( the same one at the start). We restart it and no effect- I get the same PXE error. When i put a usb and on the computer an error comes saying," Disk Error Please click to
Restart "
The thing is I cannot replace or format the hard disk since it has some important files and I don't have backup for them :( so what do I do???
Would doing a repair using Windows XP CD work? or would changing the OS work?
Please tell me what to do
I want to know what is causing it and what do I have to do to repair the fault and what should I do to prevent it in future?

Here is what I recommend:
Ask a friend to help you manufacture an
Ubuntu boot CD.
Change your BIOS boot order so that the machine boots off this CD.
Save your important files to flash stick.
Furthermore:
Spending time and effort on a Windows XP machine seems a little pointless, seeing that Microsoft will cease supporting this operating system a few weeks from now.
Files that are not backed up regularly are lost files. It is only a matter of time. Lots of people ignore this rule until they suffer a major catastrophe. You're probably safe this time but you might want to use this incident as an incentive to set up a
robust backup scheme (unless you prefer to wait for the big disaster such as a disk crash).

Eclipse MS-7520 - Unable to boot windows if Dimm slot A1 is used

I am unable to boot into or install windows XP, Vista (32 and 64 bit) or Windows 7 Beta if I have any memory installed in Slot A1 - it freezes at the windows loading screen (the little green bar gets about 1/3 way across). I am able to press F8 to bring up the windows boot menu but not even safe mode will boot.
I have 6 ram modules in total. If I populate slots as per the manual only using 4 or 5 modules I have this problem. If I populate only A0 and A1 the problem occurs. If I populate all slots except A1 it boots windows fine every time (with 10GB of RAM).
When there is a module in slot A1 the BIOS posts fine. Going into Memory-Z shows that the module is there and lists the spd information which matches the other slots. I can even perform a memtest86 (booting dos from USB stick) on the memory and it passes multiple times (shows the full 12Gb with all 6 modules installed). It seems very odd that windows is unable to boot until the module in slot A1 is removed.
So far I have tried updating the BIOS to the latest version (1.4), cleared the BIOS back to defaults and have even tried setting conservative memory timings and ratios manually (at 4x ratio as suggested in the forums). Tried performing fresh installs with drivers from both the MSI CD and website and running MSI live update.
I have only had the mainboard for a week but looking through the forum I have been unable to find a fix for this specific issue. I have logged a global support ticket with MSI but since there are quite a few users around the forum I thought someone here may have had a similar issue or could possibly point out something that I may be missing, some some odd setting or something else that I can try?

I did try to up the voltage all the way from 1.5 to 1.6 but no joy.
I received a response from MSI which was to try and update to a beta Bios of 1.53. Didn't make any difference unfortunately.
I have since talked with tech support where I purchased the board from and they have recommended to return the board and have it replaced. (They tested another board in their stock with 12Gb ram similar to mine and said it ran fine)
I'll post an update when I receive the replacement board

Unable to boot windows side

I've been running windows 7 (64bit) via bootcamp for several months and this evening I got to the selection screen I selected Windows and it froze I've tried multiple times with no luck I ran a hardware test with my OSX install disk no problems detected unable to boot with windows 7 disk same thing happens it just freezes.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Unable to boot Windows 7 Premium from an external harddrive

I recently gained an interest in playing microsoft based games, and just recently got my late 2013 macbook pro retina 15". I have been trying for several hours for the last two days to get bootcamp to boot Windows 7 Premium from a 500GB external harddrive without re-partiitioning my internal harddrive. I can get to the first screen of the Windows 7 Install asking about language, but neither my keyboard or mousepad respond with the windows installer. I assume this is because Windows 7 premium does not have USB 3.0 capability. Is there a workaround for this that doesn't involve partitioning my internal drive?

That's all fine and good, but I would strongly prefer not to have to use internal drive space for Windows. Even If I were to use the internal drive to install it, I would still run into the same problems of not having a keyboard or trackpad as I've seen other users having issues with. It stands to reason that if I had a working keyboard and mouse that I would be able to install it to an external hard drive, using a workaround method found here:

[SOLVED] Unable to Boot Windows 7 from GRUB

I recently reinstalled Arch onto my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad t520) and have been having problems with Grub. For the last week I've been having trouble getting it to run grub at boot at all, only being able to run windows 7 by flagging it as the bootable drive. The other day I finally got it to boot into grub, and from grub I can boot into Arch. However, I can not boot into windows 7 through grub. When I attempt to, it throws an error:
Invalid EFI file path
I'm somewhat new to arch, and especially new to efi bootloading and such. Right now the only way I can get into windows is either booting from the arch install disk > boot other os and specifying partition 2 (where I have windows installed) or by pressing f12 at boot. When I do this (not sure what the term is, if anyone knows please tell me), it brings up a menu asking where I want to boot with "arch_efi" "cd drive" "Hard drive" etc. I choose hard drive and it will then boot to windows by default. Booting normally takes me to grub where I can boot into arch but not windows. If there's any more info you need please let me know and I'll try to provide it. Thanks in advance.
Also, here is my current partition setup

Terminator seems to be right (still on a roll!), so I wiped the partition I had grub on, removed grub, and installed syslinux. Now I have another problem that I'm hoping can be solved in the same thread to avoid another. It boots to syslinux no problem, and I can boot to windows from there all good, but when I select arch I get:
Root device mounted successfully but /sbin/init does not exist
I haven't been able to look for solutions too much on my own, but any help would be appreciated, thank you.

i also saw this in the arch wiki, but i have a brand new lenovo ideapad y570 running windows 7 64-bit that i'm in the process of setting up for someone, and it has what i think is an efi system partition but the disk uses mbr partitioning. does anyone know why this might be, or is there a way i can verify that the system is actually being booted via bios-mbr?

Unable to boot Windows XP in a dual boot setup

I have Windows XP installed on my desktop, and decided to install Arch onto the desktop's second hard drive (space considerations), and installed Grub2 as the bootloader onto the second hard drive. I'm not able to boot Windows XP from the Grub2 menu on boot (I can boot the other entries, and can still boot XP by switching the order of the hard drives around in BIOS).
I've used Grub2 on my laptop for over a year now, and I've never had problems using it to triple boot Ubuntu, Arch and Windows Vista.
I created a custom entry for Windows XP (from various forum posts on this site and elsewhere):

When I select the Windows XP entry, all I get is a black screen, and all I can do is reboot with ctrl+alt+del.

I'd honestly just recommend installing legacy grub, or better yet LILO, the people who work on GRUB/A lot of gnu software seem to think it's a great idea to just add and add and add pointless and bloated features to things that don't need it, GRUB is a perfect example of this, and so is the coreutils, 750 lines of code is used for 'cat' whereas on an operating system such as plan9 about 40 lines of code is used to do exactly the same thing.
On legacy grub it's as simple as
title Windows
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1
Which would be able to let you boot into windows on /dev/sda1

Unable to boot Windows 7 after first reboot (after installation and bootcamp driver)

Hi, I'm italian and I'm on a 2010-end Macbook Pro bought last month. I installed Windows 7 and then I installed the Bootcamp drivers.
I was able to operate the scroll of the mouse only magic-installing the 3.0 version ofBootcamp and then installing the missing drivers from the DVD Bootcamp 3.2. After that I rebooted the computer and tells me: "Could not start the computer" and start the recovery screen that remains indefinitely without ever doing anything, so I have to shut down by the power button.
How can I do to restore everything?

I have the exact same problem.
I've tried several times using both boot camp 3.2 whitch came with my computer, and using boot camp 4.0 that I got in the lion-update. Everything works fine until it restarts after installing the boot camp drivers, then it's the recovery screen that never finishes.
Anyone know what might be the problem?

Unable to boot Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit dv6

Hello,
I have a HP dv6 that I force shutdown. Upon reboot, it asks me to do a Windows diagnostic and if I select that option, all I see is a blue screen (not the blue screen of death) and nothing else happens.
No progress bar, nothing...a DOS window did appear and disappear in a flash at the beginning.
Now, I had installed Ubuntu (through wubi, I think), and if I choose that OS, it boots up just fine. I can even see my Windows folders, files, etc., through Ubuntu file manager, though I can't copy, open of course.
Now, I have my 5 CD-R system recovery disks that I'd burned at the beginning.
I changed the boot order to CD in the BIOS, and I see the two progress bars "Windows loading files" and then the blue screen appears again and nothing else does.
Thinking my recovery disks were corrupt, I plugged disk 1 into an Acer with the same Windows 7 Home Premium OS. When I attempted to boot my Acer from the HP recovery disk, I got a nice window with a message saying that this laptop is not supported by the recovery disk and to contact HP support.
So, the recovery disks are fine.
I'm not sure what else to do.
Any help will be appreciated.

Dual boot system: unable to boot Windows

Hello guys!
I've read a lot of resources about this problem, but I didn't find any solution yet. Hope you can help me.
I'm trying to install Arch in a disk that already has a Windows partition.
I've followed all steps described in Begginers Instalation Guide but, after Grub is installed and boot files are generated, after the reboort I'm able to boot in the new Arch system, but Windows keeps unreachable.
I receive an error just saying that the system couldn't boot properly (meaningless, I know).
My harddrive is setted with a GPT table.
So, I've followed what's described in arch's guide: I've created a separated boot partition of 300Mb, formatted as EXT4, and an extra UEFI partition, formatted as ef00 in gparted, with ~3Mb.
I've installed Grub normally in boot partition and created the boot files.
After all, Windows keeps refusing to boot.
I can't format Windows partition, since I still use it for my job and I'll spend a lot of time I don't have to reconfigure everything.
I just need to know the correct step-by-step I need to follow my case.
The whole Arch System is configured and running well (without UI yet). So, I'm just having troubles with boot manager.
Some extra informations:
MACHINE: MSI GT70 2OD
DISK TABLE TIPE: GPT
WINDOWS INSTALLED: Windows 7 64bits
If you guys need any extra information, feel free to ask.
I'll provide it as soon as possible.

A few points:
When posting the output of `lsblk -f`, this needs to be done after you have (arch-)chroot'ed into the target root partition, otherwise the mountpoints don't show up.
You claim that you created "an extra EFI partition" -- this is not present in the `gdisk -l` output: why not?
What was the original GRUB install command that was used (as described in the original post)? You can boot into Arch, so clearly that worked...
I really don't understand how Arch managed to boot at all if you were running a non-EFI system from a GPT disk without a BIOS Boot Partition -- this should not be possible!
I didn't realized that.
I'll perform all steps again, taking in count the observations above and post the result here.
I think I've taken the SS after a try of making the system work, so maybe I've deleted the partition.
Don't worry, I'll redo all the steps again and give you a more accurate situation
About booting in Arch, in one of my tries I've achieved to install Grub successfully (I don't remember which configuration I've used). Arch loaded perfectly, but Windows not, and after that I've tried many configurations.
I think you must have deleted one or more of the partitions needed by Windows during the Arch installation proceedure.
No, I'm pretty sure I haven't deleted anything.
As I said, before running any command to install Arch I've checked my partition table and no boot partition, from both Windows or Linux, was present.
I'll recreate the steps and give you guys a clearer view about the problem.

Macbook Pro Retina unable to boot windows 7 from USB

I have an unusual problem
i cannot install windows 7 on my macbook pro retina. Thats not the weird part. This is what happens.
- I use bootcamp.
- I make bootable USB.
- Download drivers.
- Install windows 7
- Select partition size as 50 or 60 or 70 GB
- mac restarts, then a black screen appears, a cursor on top left appears just for a second and then dissappears and i am left with a black screen with nothing on it. (No text or cursors)
I have tried installing 32 bit, 64 bit windows 7.
Weird thing is i had encountered this problem before and did a bit of searching n found out that you cannot upgrade to 64bit from 32bit. But thats not the issue here. A fix given to that problem worked for me as well. Make a bootable usb with 32bit windows and manually remove all non-hidden files on it and replace with non-hidden files of a 64bit win7. It worked for me then. Win7 installed. But recently i got battlefield 3 and needed additional space to install so i had to remove win7 and repartition. Now no solution is working. Not even the replacing 32bit files with 64bit files.
I really wanna game!! Please help!!

64bit still acts cocky.
But i tried that work around with another USB and it worked. Just Like that
Cocky Mac.
Create USB with 32bit OS, replace non-hidden files with non-hidden files of 64bit OS of windows 7.

Unable to boot windows 8.1 in AHCI

Hello,
I am using Lenovo G500s since a year and there have been no problems until recently the laptop started to crash all of a sudden. When I try to reboot it, I got a black screen that said " Checking media on EFI IPv4 and IPv6 and finally got a message EFI boot failed. Later I found a solution for this problem on lenovo community forum that I should try disconnecting the power and battery and reconnect and hold down the power button for 15 secs and try to reboot it again. I tried that and it got booted but again later if I try to shut down and restart the laptop, the same problem repeated. I showed the problem in an authorized lenovo service centre and he says the entire motherboard has to be replaced. I tried for a second opnion. Meanwhile when I tried to boot the laptop again, this time I got a new problem saying "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". I tried to boot it through Compatible mode and it got booted but when I switch back to AHCI mode, again the problem repeats. Not able to understand if there is a problem with the motherboard or just the hard drive controller.
Sorry for the long post. Kindly suggest a solution asap. I would be much obliged.

Unable to boot Windows Server 2012 after adding features (AD, DNS, DHCP)

Hi,
I'm installing a VM server 2012 and it installs without any problems. Able to boot it and login, I change the name of the server and restart it. Still no problem.
Now when I want to add some features, Active Directory, DHCP and DNS, promoting to Domain Controller. Create a new forest and so on. When this is configured and installed the server wants to restart. It restarts but boots into a loop and ends up in System
Recovery/Troublshoot. I have tried repairing the boot with bcdedit in cmd-prompt but not able to fix it. Same Issue in VMware and hyper-v manager on different hosts. Im thinking that the image is at fault, but its strange that everything works at the beginning.
Am I missing something? The image I'm using is from MSDN, Server 2012 debug checked with updates. I'll try another image today, but why shouldnt that one work?

Windows HP laptop won't boot Windows - possible hard disk failure!

Hi there!
A month ago my HP Pavilion dv6-6b57sa completely froze mid-use, and was unable to move the mouse or get any sort of response.
Naturally I held the power button to hard shutdown and restarted. Ever since then I have been unable to boot Windows 7 (the original OS) properly, and all I could get to was a Startup repair which took days to try to fix the issues, eventually coming up with a message saying it was unable to fix the errors.
Today I decided to ditch the data I had stored and do a fresh install - using the HP wizard by pressing F11 on boot and using a newly created USB Windows 7 install drive. After getting to the point of install process of Windows just loading the files, after choosing a hard drive partition successfully etc. the installation quit, citing a number of issues (screenshots link are below).
So I then try to restart the computer, and get a 'SMART Hard disk error' (screenshot link below) and when I select continue startup from there, it says Windows failed to start (screenshot link below) and then leads to me to the Startup repair manager again - which fails again - (screenshot link also below!)
So after doing a hard drive test, it says it has failed (screenshot link also below).
So what can I do? Is there a serious hardware related issue linked with the hard drive (which is bound to cost lots of £££ I bet), or are there further steps I can take?

Yes and you had to at the moment since you won't have a key unless you buy one from Microsoft for about 99 dollars.

Unable to boot laptop

Hi, I currently have a serious problem with my Pavilion g4 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
Last night after I finished using my laptop, I closed its lid as I usually do and we both went to sleep.
But this morning when I opened it again, instead of starting up normally I got this error: Oxc00000e9 and I was unable to boot Windows. I didn't have any USB devices connected so I'm worried that it might be a problem with the hard drive.
I tried getting into Safe Mode, but after loading part of the files it stopped working and I was given an option to Startup Repair.
After that the laptop was stuck for some minutes in a Windows gray screen with cursor before the Repair window appeared. It run and asked me to restart to see if it had worked or not.
It took some while to restart, the Windows loading icon came up but then instead of booting the system I was sent again to a screen which looked like the Startup Repair one, with the cursor on it but nothing else.
It was stuck for half an hour on this screen, then this window appeared:

Then I got another window:

Yes boot to safe mode with command prompt and run chkdsk C: /r and see if it will repair any bad file structure and if you get bad sectors.
