Unable to Burn a DVD

I am unable to select any files to burn. I am choosing Disk Utility when inserting a blank DVD. A Disk Utility window opens and shows three drives. One of them is the optical drive. If I click on the "Burn" button, the Select Image to Burn window opens but no files can be selected, they are grey'd out and the "Burn" button on the lower right hand corner is grey too and never becomes selectable.
I am the only user and my account is admin. I've tried two different media but that doesn't seem to be where the root cause is. What's going on? I thought Apple computers were intuitive, I can't believe I'm that stupid. I've searched the Help Viewer but the text does not match what I see when I insert the blank disk. It says that once you insert the media and you've chosen the app. you want to burn with, a disc icon should appear on your desktop. I never see this icon. It then says to double click on it, which should open a window and then drag your files to be burnt to this window. Seems pretty straight forward to me but that's simply not what I'm seeing.
Any help is much appreciated.

  • HP dv6263cl DVD Rom unable to burn any dvd

    dear hp/support team mates:
i have purchased HP 6000 series notebook in Oct -07 and i m satisfied with its performance. intially i didn't have any data to burn on the dvd rom. but with passage of time i have data which requires backup on dvd rom. now the problem i m facing is i m unable to write/burn any data on blank dvd's which are available in open market.
i have changed different brands of dvd rw and used multi softwares to burn the dvd. everytime i get the error its dvd fault which is unable to have write on it. now i m not technical person but if proper guidence is transfered then i m able to diagnose the issue.
the error i get is .. The disc in the drive is not writable disc or it is full. Please insert a writable disc in drive.
now waiting for the response from your end.

Can you play a movie dvd? In other words is the dvd drive otherwise operational? If you have never reloaded the operating system after 2.5 years that would be the place to start. After all that time it is very possible the registry or other part of software is corrupted. You also say you have installed multiple disk burning software installations. That can pose a problem. I would ask you to recover it to factory state or better yet install a new clean copy of Windows 7 so we can properly isolate potential hardware issues from software issues.
We are not official HP people by the way just users who volunteer to help.
I am assuming you have Vista but if that is wrong let us know.

  • Got quicktime pro, unable to burn a dvd to play on yv

When i export a movie to .mp4 format, my movies are unable to play on my dvd that plays .mp4 format. any suggestions on the problem?

Most probably, your dvd-player needs DIvX-format wich is a varience of mp4 format, but different from the exact spec's for mp4.
Many hardware suppliers claim their players play mp4, but infact its the (slightly) different DivX.
You can download a Divx plug-in for quicktime. If you have QT-Pro, you can then export to Divx.
make sure that you don't exceed the aspect/pixel ratio that your device can play (it's smaller then on your computer). You can find this on the DivX website under the harware spec's
I had the same problem, solved it but stopped doing this and just burn my DvD in regualar format (it's to much of a hassl doing otherwise)

  • I'm unable to burn a DVD of my project.

I've been working on a slideshow project (jpeg stills + audio) in PE11, Windows 7.  The Publish & Share to DVD worked fine - burned test DVD's for editing along the way.  After I burned what I thought was my final version, I selected "export files to play on computers".  I corrected an error in my project and then tried to burn another DVD.  The process stops @ 99% saying "runtime error: unknown exception".
Project size: 4.38 GB, length 1:13.
Fixes tried that didn't work: defragmenting, freeing space on hard drive (120 GB free), burning to a folder.
    Can you help, please.

Before all else, check out Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/11.0 and the
Adobe Premiere Elements Previews Files Folder (I deleted these files to
clear hard disc space after my burn hang up problem started and I had
tried all other suggestions without success) and Media Cache Folder. Where's
the Media Cache Folder?  Let us know if you find pile up of files in either
one. Go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Media and, in the Media Cache Database
    area, click the Clean Button.
    1. Make a copy of the project.prel file that you used to make your original
    DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc. Done
See File Menu/Save a Copy. Name the Copy something different but easily
    recognizable.
    2. Open the copy project.prel. Expand the Timeline content with the Zoom In
and Zoom Out slider above the Expert workspace Timeline. In the track
contents, look for anything out of place. Look for slivers and leftovers
for files that you thought that you had deleted. These things usually
present as very, very thin black vertical lines scattered about the track
contents. This is great info - really makes editing easier.  Found &
deleted several slivers and many gaps.
    3. As I asked before, when you changed the duration of your photos in your
edit of the originals, did you lose any video transitions in the process.
Is your disc menus creation still there?  My transitions and menus creation
    are still there...not lost.
    4. In whatever you are doing, the important thing to remember is not to
move any of the source media that went into one of your projects after you
have saved closed them.  All source media used in projects is in the
original location & under the same name.
    5. Since have not been able to burn to file or folder for your DVD-VIDEO, I
suspect that the core of the issue is that Timeline content.  I'm trying to
burn the new copy project just created to a DVD tonight.  Going slowly, but
going.  Wasn't able to render project first because the time device hung up
near the beginning.    Will let you know how this burn goes.  Keeping my
    fingers crossed...

  • Unable to burn to DVD

Created a slide show in PSE 8 (apprx 200 slides 21 min run time)  .. selected "output media" and chose Burn to DVD .. all I get is a dialog box asking where I want to the WMV file. I was expecting to be able to burn to a DVD for play back on a TV ... It would appear that PSE 8 is not recognizing the DVD burner (if I point to in the save dialog box, I get illegal function error) ... If I export to PRE 8, it recognizes the DVD drive (but as discussed in another forum), simply does not want to work .. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong would be appreciated ..thanks

PSE 8 cannot burn a video dvd to play in a dvd player, only a data dvd to use on a computer or a terrible vcd. If you want to make a video dvd you must use other authoring software, like Premiere Elements or whatever came with your dvd burner, to create it.

  • Unable to burn CD/DVD - X200 - Windows 7 x64

X200 - 7458-CTO - Intel 4 Series chipset, Intel P8600 Duo Core Processor, 6 GB RAM, Intel Turbo Memory, latest BIOS from Lenovo site, all the Windows 7 X64 drivers from Lenovo site (manually loaded and loaded by the "update" process) Ultra Base with Mat**bleep**a UJ862A CD/DVD writer SB04.
Originally Windows XP Pro SP3 x32. December 24th upgraded to Windows 7 Pro, x64. Machine went through upgrade well. Only problem is inability to burn a CD/DVD using the Ultra Base (Mat**bleep**a) CD/DVD burner. Tried the "built-in" Windows 7 program and CDBurnerXP. Will burn 10 to 15% of the disk and then errors out.
I have disabled the Turbo Memory and it made no difference, rolled the Intel Storage software back to a previous version - no help. Have not found any other posts regarding this problem. Reads CD/DVD just fine - burning is the only problem. Have not found any newer drivers for the Mat**bleep**a CD/DVD device. Uninstalled device (through Device Manager) rebooted, found and reinstalled drive - still fails to burn a CD/DVD.
Will post on a couple other boards -
    TIA, Michael

Tried different media brands - no change
Resolution= It works now - don't know what exactly I did - Ran the Lenovo System Update last night before leaving for home - following shows to be installed yesterday.
Windows "patch" KB958685 (shows correcting a "sleep" problem.)

  • Unable to burn on DVD-R

I created a movie on iDVD last week. When I went to burn to a disk, the software ejected the DVD (DVD-R) and then says to "insert a recordable disk". It's a brand new disk. In reviewing the side of the Macbook box, among other disk formats, it mentions DVD-RW and not DVD-R. Could this be the problem?

Thanks for the quick response. In reviewing below, it appears everything should work. Another problem we encountered today is that it's not playing any DVD's, but it will recognize CD's. After inserting several DVD's, the device ejected the disk within approx 8 seconds.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Unable to burn DVD's

I own a PowerMac G4 with combo drive, 768 SDRAM running Tiger 10.4.3. Purchased a LaCie d2 DVD RW external burner to save my Quicktime movies made with iMovie. Using the software included Toast 6, I am unable to burn a DVD. Numerous calls to tech support over a 2 1/2 month period yielded no help. I returned the unit and received a new one. Same error messages on both units.
" Connection not stable" "Disk failed to be written". I changed the ports on both the computer and burner as well as purchasing a new firewire cable. No change. The only disk that I was able to burn 2 months ago was very pixilated.
    Anyone else have this problem?
    Any suggestions?
Sorry for the length of the post, but I tried to include as much info as possible
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Make sure you've installed the most recent Toast update from Roxio.com. If yours is Toast 6 Lite, the current version is 6.1. If it is Toast 6 Titanium it is 6.1.1. Those are required for Macs running 10.4.x.
I believe your error message may be due to poor-quality media. Most often this message appears when using DL media other than Verbatim DVD+R DL. Try using a different brand of quality media.
Another possibility is that your Mac has an OS problem related to its Firewire. These usually can be fixed by downloading and applying Apple's 10.4.4 combined system updater (even though you are already using 10.4.4).
LaCie has a firmware update on its support site. Download and apply it to update the drive's firmware. If the drive doesn't need updating the firmware updater will tell you so. Firmware updates typically increase the brands and speeds of media that the drive will burn to successfully.

  • Burn data dvd no longer works since 9.0.1 or 9.0

Since the latest iTunes update, at least 9.0 or 9.0.1, I am unable to burn backup DVD data disks which is my "offsite" backup method besides using Time Machine on an accessory drive. The DVD drive is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-109: Firmware Revision: 1.58. I get error messages, did not save the text, but usually read/write errors, "sense" issues usually cited after several attempts. However, seems to work fine burning from Toast and fine for burning iTunes Audio CDRW disks. Anyone else experience this? I see several having problems recently burning CD's from iTunes, but not this specific issue. I know it's nearly time to update my system to Intel, but it would be nice to hold on a little longer...I did try to force lower speed DVD writes with no help. Thanks...

  • Burning a DVD from CS4 on a Windows 7 computer

I'm unable to burn a DVD from the edited timeline in CS4.   I have Windows 7 Home Premium software loaded on my PC.  When I go from Dynamic Link to Encore I get an error message stating Encore is not compatible with my PC.  How can I burn a DVD using CS4 and Windows 7?

Some people have problems with Dynamic Link, so first do it the old fashioned way to see if Encore works at all
A "simple project" step-by-step Tutorial for Encore (Not Dynamic Link)
    - once you've done a simple project, the user guide has lots more
    - http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/Encore.txt
For CS4 you must update the Roxio component http://forums.adobe.com/thread/400484

    http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/content/kb/General%20Information/000070GN&PARAMS
As well as the below, right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator, which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account, and which fixes several "odd" problems... To create a dual layer DVD (or a BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option

Create an ISO (Encore) or folder on your hard drive (Encore or Premiere Elements) and then use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or ISO to disc (send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)
Imgburn will read the ACTUAL disc brand from the disc, which is not always the same as the box label (Memorex is notorious for buying "anything" and putting it inside a Memorex box)
When you write to disc with Imgburn, use the slowest possible speed setting, so your burner has the best chance to create "good, well formed" laser burn holes... since no DVD player is required to read a burned disc, having a "good" one from a high quality blank will help
Use Taiyo Yuden single layer or Verbatim dual layer
Or Falcon Pro for inkjet printable dual layer

  • Can't burn Multisession DVD's

    Hello,
I'm unable to burn Multisession DVD's with my PowerBook.
Whenever I select a disk image to Burn with Disk Utility the option to "Leave disc appendable" is greyed out.
Also, I'm unable to write Multisession DVD's with Toast 6.1.1 either.
I've tried this with two different brand DVD-R's with the same result.
    I'm using a PowerBook 1.67GHz G4 17" with it's original Matshita DVD-R UJ-835E drive.
    Thanks,
    Anthony
    PowerBook 17" G4 1.67Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Matshita DVD-R UJ-835E drive

I did an extensive search of the Mac OS and Toast Help menus but I didn't find any info on the lack of support of this. So, I ended up contacting Roxio about it.
Thanks for the link, by the way. The poster that contacted Roxio support got essentially the same answer I did, that Toast doesn't support multisessoin since a multi-session DVD won't be shown correctly in Mac OSX.
    Take care,
    Anthony
From a brief google search, it appears multi-session
DVD is not supported by Mac OS. Check out this

  • Cannot burn a DVD for backup

I have completed a Erase & Install on the beast here. Now I tried to do a "clean backup" and am unable to burn a DVD. The following is the message:
The operation could not be completed because one or more of the required items cannot be found (Error code -43).
Could not open the data forl of "<unable to get file path>" (-43)
There it is. None of my research has helped. Would appreciate any expertise on the matter. Thanks.

As far as the backup, I was dragging my User folder
to the DVD, then selecting "Burn". It ran with it for
a while, then the error messages as listed before.
That's causing the error. There are files in your user folder (disk burning logs, preferences, caches, mail, et.) that are changing. Dragging files to a burn folder creates aliases to the files. When burning or verifying, if the original file (target of the alias) has moved, changed, or been deleted, you can get the errors you are seeing. Try burning all the folders except "Library" and see if you get the error.

  • My MOV videos do not play when I burn a DVD using iPhoto.

My MOV movies do not play when I burn a DVD using iPhoto.  I can use the other method with my Mac to burn DVDs but the videos are not good quality like they are in my iPhoto albums.  How can I get better quality in the DVD videos if I am unable to burn a DVD using iPhoto?  I upgraded to the free Mavericks.

    Hi
Most common origin to this are:
Brand of DVD used - NoName, Memorex etc cheap brands might work as Data-DVDs - BUT NOT as Video-DVDs
Type of DVD used - I only use SL-DVD-R as they also playback on older DVD-players. DVD+R for newer DVD-players. Never ever DVD+/-RW. Dual-Layers usually creates more problems than Single-Layers
BURN SPEED - Very IMPORTANT factor - I never go faster than x4 - Normally I use x2
Material used - Video Codec, Photo and Audio file formats
Video-Codec: StreamingDV, AIC and HDV (I use)
Photo: .jpg - NO .bmp or other - all converted to .jpg first
Audio: .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or 44.1kHz (as on Audio-CDs) - NO .mp3, wma etc ailient formats - all converted to ..aiff 16-bit 48kHz or 44.1kHz first
Free Space: on Start-Up (Macintosh HD) Hard Disk - I never go less than 25Gb when doing Video-DVDs (for SD-Quality Video - if HD material is used 4-5 times more are a safe low level) (Other external Hard Disks - DO NOT COUNT as space here can not be addressed by Mac OS or iDVD for it’s massive use of .temp files)
Dusty DVD-burner Laser: I use a Cleaning DVD (no liquid but the one with brushes) from time to time.
Harmed DVD-burner Laser: Easy to do by burning more than three DVDs at a time - I let it rest for 30 minutes till next batch of three DVDs. If this happened - then only a costly repair will help. It will not heal by it self.
OBS: There are more than one Laser in the DVD-Burner so other functions might work OK as Playback CD/DVDs and even burn CDs. Still being broken.

  • Why can't I burn a dvd from idvd? Could it be due to Mountain Lion?

I have upgraded to Mountain Lion. I am now unable to burn a dvd from idvd. Could ml be the problem?  I have purchased new media-verbatim DVD-R. I can burn Cds. Help!!!

  • Unable to burn AUDIO to DVD or Disk image, video is fine

As many other posts have stated; I am unable to burn the Audio portion of an iDVD nor does "save as disk image" transfer the audio of my iDVD. Transferred an iMovie, (an iPhoto set of photos with iTunes audio imported into iMovie) to iDVD. Audio plays on iMovie, audio plays on iDVD preview. Tried removing recommended ~com.apple.iXXX.plist, no help. Tried different encoding methods: i.e. Best/High/Professional. Tried saving to different sizes HD/Large/etc. Tried Share Media in iTunes, Media Browser, etc. Checked Main Audio, volume slider bar in iDVD. Tried importing audio into iDVD rather than transferring from iMovie. It doesn't seem to matter how I build the iDVD it works, until I go to Save As Disk Image or Burn DVD. Video works great (better in Large than HD) Audio doesn't transfer.
21 total minutes, 1.15GB of final iDVD using a default theme.

    Hi
(an iPhoto set of photos with iTunes audio imported into iMovie) to iDVD
Yes this is the problem - in iTunes there is a copy-protection that moves over
    Result
    • Plays well in iMovie
    • Plays well in iDVD preview
    • Silent on DVD
Only way around this is to in iTunes collect needed audio into a play-list
Burn this out as an Audio-CD and .aiff (NOT .mp3)
Use the audio on this CD in Your iMovie project.
    Yours Bengt W
