Unable to burn and watch videos on DVD because of locked files?

I have an Imac G5 a few years old and have just installed Leopard. I have been trying to burn some videos onto a DVD but after it is burnt, I cannot open the videos. I think it is because the original file was locked. I then discovered that all files were locked. I go to Get info on each folder and unlock it. I also unlocked the folder with the videos before burning it to DVD. Still I cannot open the videos on the DVD. Somehow the folders stay locked even though I unlocked them. Any suggestions?

iDVD is not longer officially supported by Apple, but still works like a champ.
In iMovie 10, go to File>Share>File, choose the size (probably should choose either SD or Large) then click Next, give it a name, then click Save (remember where you saved it).
When the activity indicator shows that the Share has completed (may take a while depending on your hardware and the length of the movie) go to iDVD. Go to File>Import>Video and select the file you just created. It will bring the video into your iDVD project.

I had this same problem when I installed the REMOTE application on my ipad. Everything on the list was affirmative, but had the same problem not being able to connect to my iTunes.
What is missing? Is there a firewall setting that could be causing this?

I don't mean to be facetious but sometimes the simplest things are overlooked. To connect to your library you have to have the computer where the iTunes library is located running and with iTunes open. It also needs to be on the same network. My network is dual band and works with either stream but a friend of mine does not. He has to set the computer and the Apple TV to the same band. Hope this helps.

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Make sure that y do not leave any foreign material or leave anything in the jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.

How do I download a video and convert it into an flv file? In previous versions, all I had to do was pick the resolution and it was done automaticlly. I use DVDFLICK to burn my downloaded videos to DVD.

In previous versions of Firefox, I was able to easily download and convert videos into .flv files. I was then able to burn DVDs of theses downloaded videos using DVDFLICK. I'm now unable to do this using Firefox6.0.2?

I'm getting burn error message "super drive was unable to burn and cannot retry"

I have a 4 year old macbook pro 17' the super drive has rarely been used . today I was burning my iphoto library to dvd & was about half way thru ( already sucessfully burned 5 disks) when I put the next blank disk in the drive it started the pre burn process ejected the disk and the message appeared (superdrive is unable to burn disk and unable to retry)
The drive still reads ok but when I put a blank disk in it wont even show up on the desktop , a disk with info on it will show up on desk top.
Im using osx lion 10.7.5.
MY QUESTION IS , IS THERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST I CAN RUN TO PINPOINT THE PROBLEM WITH BURNING ON THE SUPERDRIVE?

You'd better take your Macbook Po wiith blank DVD media to Genius Bar to show them the circumstance you have.

How to burn hi-def video to DVD with CS3?

I'm doing a Hi-Def video project. But when i copy
the sequence, or export a movie, to my DVD burner, i have quite a bit of loss in video quality.
Someone has told me that i need to get a newer DVD burner (mine is 3-yrs old), since the older ones don't handle Hi-Def properly. Does anyone know about this?

The DVD specification is for a very specific video format, and that video format is not high-definition.
The high-definition successors to the DVD format were Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD. Blu-ray seems to have won that format war.

Unable to Burn Anything to Dual Layer DVD

Greetings,
I have a new Memorex MRX-530LE dual layer burner, and I have verified that I do have the latest firmware from the manufacturer.
I am able to burn dual-layer DVDs with no difficulty using NERO. I am unable to burn a dual-layer DVD backup with iTunes 8. I have verified this with two different brands of DVD+R9 (DL) media, and I have verified that I am easily able to burn backups using single-layer DVD-5 media.
Can anyone verify whether iTunes 8 supports dual-layer at all? I have searched the forum and find nothing more recent than 2006, and am hoping that others have now experienced my situation, since DL media and burners are common today.

Hi. I am having the same problem. I have already done one backup and I want to do an incremental backup, but when I insert the DL+ disc it tells me that I will need 14 disc. My itunes is only 6.5 gigs?
I think it's a bug.

Unable to burn pictures to CD or DVD

I just installed iLife '08 and updated all the software, iPhoto is now version 7.1.1. I go through the steps to burn a CD, and it asks me to insert a blank disk, which I do. Once the disk is installed and spins up I get a message that the disk is full, no matter how many times I try a different blank disc. I took those same disks that iPhoto indicated as being full and successfully burned a different data file using toast and it worked fine. Any thoughts?

In the most simple mode, you can select the photo's, and then use the send command to select the CD/DVD drive. Without knowing what creativity software is installed in your unit, it's difficult to offer guidance.

I'm using a Canon HV30 with iMovie '09. How do I save the movies to DVD? Is there a high definition DVD burner that I can buy to save the movies to? If not, what's the point of a high definition camcorder if I can use the functionality? I'm guessing I'm missing something.

Apple would like you to produce hi-def files which you put on your Mobile.Me internet service, or put on your AppleTV, for people to see them.
You can, of course, get an external Blu-Ray burner and buy "Toast 10" to burn your HD files ..or you can burn HD files (..about 20 mins' worth..) onto a standard DVD using Toast or Apple's 'DVD Studio Pro' ..but they won't play on ordinary DVD players, possibly will on old Toshiba HD-DVD players, and should play on Macs.
It's the hi-def wars: burn to disc vs. distribute as (moderately) hi-def H.264/MPEG-4 files.

Capture and import video from DVD

Just switched from PC to MAC. I have my travel videos on DVD's. In iMovie 08 how do I capture and import the video that's on the DVD into iMovie. I couldn't find any help on this topic.

Take a look at Cinematize 2, I've used it with iMovie 06 and iDVD 08. It has several modes of converting the data. One mode is called "lossless".
For the job you're doing you may prefer to use iMovie 06 instead of iMovie 08 (I would).
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 is a terrific combination.
iMovie 06 is a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!)

Your workflow would go something like this.
Use Cinematize 2 to create a Quicktime file from the DVD.
Important that file into iMovie 06.
From iMovie 06, share to iDVD 08 (assuming you want a DVD).

Mac Freezes When Using Skype and Watching Video

I have a Mac (OS X Ver. 10.6.8 Build 10K549) with 4 GB Memory and 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3 Processor. My Mac freezes, and requires a hard reset. **Everything** freezes, keyboard and mouse click no longer works. Sound may continue. This happens all the time I use **Skype** and sometimes when I watch **video** online. This happened before when I was using Mavericks. It reached to a point that I could not use my Mac. I basically installed **Snow Leopard** back again. Problem was solved until the last two days. I deleted and re-installed Skype. This did not solve the issue. Unfortunately, I could not find a solution to my problem after a research in these pages. Thanks.

I had the same problem but it seemed to stop after I installed a program called Caffeine that prevents your Mac from automatically going to sleep, dimming the screen or starting screen savers. I haven't had a freeze-up as long as I have it enabled.
