Unable to burn disk on my mac book

Do you know why I am unable to  burn a disk on my mac if it suddenly says the device does not have enough laser power for the media?

try using compressed air with the straw and blow short bursts into the optical drive.  I know a friend who has this same problem and this was a fix for them.

Hi, I am using my icloud on my iphone but am unable to find it on my mac book pro. It's not under my system preferences like it shows under the setup. Can I download it again? Or something. I just need to backup some files on my computer and am unable.

The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mavericks preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is now non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • HT3910 I need a recovery disk for my Mac Book Pro for IOs 10.6 Snow lepoard

I have lost my revocry disk for my MAC Book Pro laptop.  How can I obtain a new one

You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
You may also purchase replacements for the two discs that came with the computer.

  • How do I copy a home made HD video file (MP4 codec) of 10 GB from an external hard disk to my Mac Book Pro? Thanks

How do I copy a home made HD video file (MP4 codec) of >10 GB from an external hard disk to my Mac Book Pro? Thanks

I will never know if the problem was one of transfer or format compatibility.  The movie would not copy from one external hard diask to another, both attached to my MAC. But when the movie (which was in mpg by the way) was downloaded directly (without any other intermediary) into my external disk from the computer (a PC) where the movie was originated, the file did copy. And when I attached that external hard disk to my MAC, i could see it  using the MPEC streamclip app.
    Thank you anyway!

  • Unable to open/run anything on Mac Book Pro

I have a new Mac book Pro (january)
    Running:
    Snow Leopard
    Duo Core 2.66 Processor (13")
    4 Gigs Ram
    500 gig Harddrive
    Disk Partition:
    Windows 7
    105gigs
OK as the title states, I can not opne anything, programs will not run, I  can not go into folders and only menu I can bring up is when I right click and evne then I can on select any of the options. When I try to open or run anything the mac freezes up sometimes the raindow cursor apperars othertimes the screen just freezes. Also, keyboard bottons work (brightness, volume..dashboard, but agian when it comes up I can't select any gagestes or sticky notes)
I've treid re-boting and nothing, as I'm unable open anything I can't check for updates, uninstall aplliacations, ect..
Also, my windows parition loads up my default when I boot up (not sure why) and I guess its becuase of this I haven't been able to try solutions involving holding specific keys when re-booting.
To sum up, I mac book pro loads proparly, regiesters a USB drive when I plugged it in, as soon as I try to open anything I slows/frezes..rainbow cersur pops up and will not open anything with no messages or anything. Also sometiems everything except my desktop background vanishes off the screen when I double click a folder, application, menu.
I've loaded up windows and that seems to be working as usual. Because I'm in school at the moment I hope I don't wnat have to re-insall OS X, therefore I haven't popoed the OS X disk in as I'm a fraid I might loose my school work.
Lasltly, If I have to re-install the OS how do I get the apps I paid for back without paying of them again?
I tried to describe my situation as best I could,  hopefully it helps.

you can easily get the apps you paid for back without paying again as long as it is with the same account,  there i  a tab in the mac app store that says purchased and you can just go on that tab and press install for the bunch that are there,   to get your OSX partition as your main one go to system prefrenses, under system there will be something called startup disk and then you can switch it to mac OSX   i hope that helped, and for your applications not working i would reinstall OSX because it would install as an upgrade if you want it to and im sure it will keep most of your info and apps

  • I need a larger hard disk for my mac book pro

Hi my mac Book pro 2.53GHz 13' needs a larger hard disk do you have any suggestion? I'm thinking about a 750/1T but which brand/model works great? I do music production.
    L

For music production, you'll probably want a 7200RPM drive, and all the current 1TB units are 5200 or 5400RPM. Consider the 750GB 7200RPM Seagate:

  • Can anyone suggest a reliable dvd burning app for a mac book pro without the idvd app

After contacting apple they tell me to purchase a third party dvd burning app, After a little research on the app,s available from the app store the reviews are not good. Has anyone found a reliable app that will do the job,.

Toast is exellent but is no substitute for iDVD - but then nothing really is.

    You can Install Memory
in MacBook Pro yourself or you can take it to an
Apple retailer where they can install memory for
    you.
If you choose to DIY you can buy a 1 GB SODIMM at Data
    Mem for $59.00 plus shipping.

the Mac Pro. There is a separate forum for the

  • Question: Unable to unmount disk to reformat My Book for Aperture export

    Hello,
I upgraded to Aperture 3.01. I had never exported an Aperture library to an external hard drive before. Aperture 3 would not recognize the My Book Essentials (1 TB) for export. I cannot unmount the disk when trying to reformat from MS-DOS (FAT) to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I went on the Western Digital website to download driver updates and that hasn't helped either.
    Thanks,
    Steve K

Same exact issue.  Macbook Pro w/500SSD.  Booting from the recovery partition, unable to modify partitions. No firmware password (if that mattered) etc. Had 2 partitions, now reformatting for single partition and error reads:
    Partition failed
    Partition failed with the error:
    Couldn't unmount disk.

  • Unable to mount disks: why does Mac Pro think it is NTFS?

We have a 2006 and a 2008 Mac Pro. Each has four internal disk drives. The 2008 one has disk 1 & 2 concatenated as the boot drive and 3 & 4 concatenated as the backup drive. Super Duper was used to make an image backup. Right before we moved, the disk started clicking. Now it doesn't boot.
First I tried the secret keypress at boot time to switch boot disks to the other one with no luck. Then I said to myself, why not just mount the disk using the boot drive from the other mac? So I did. It doesn't mount!
Disk Utility shows the two drives in the bay as "RAID slice" and "disk2". I know they are all HFS+ Mac disks. Why is the error message think it is NTFS?
As confusing as the error message is, any ideas on how I can get the files off this disk? I'm thinking my next try should be Disk Warrior or something like that?
    Disk Utility:
    Verify and Repair volume “disk2”
** /usr/local/bin/ntfsfix has been disabled because of volume corruption issues.
** If you still want to try fixing your volume, use /usr/local/bin/ntfsfix from the command line...
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
Mac OS X 10.5.8--the 2008 mac has the server version.
We all think the boss should buy us all new Mac Pros with SSDs.

No need to put down $$$ for new, but it is over due time to upgrade to Lion or later, and an SSD is a cheap way to get a huge improvement.
10.5.8 is not being supported. 106.8 still is.
500GB SSD is more than enough for system, 250GB should be fine, prices are $250 and $140 range, and $12 for a sled adapter.
I would not use those drives as concatenated, not for system or backup. And I would not keep data and system on the same volume. One you undo and redo and get more current storage and probably RAM and newer OS you should be fine, a new GPU probably, but all of that is cheaper and doable.
Amazon has FBDIMMs in the $25 2 x 2GB set for 2006-2008, and 16GB makes a nice base system.
