  • Will Not Burn DVD: Error code 0x8002006D

    Hello
I have a 12" PowerBook G4 fitted with a SuperDrive running Tiger 10.4.11. My machine will still play & burn CD's it will still play DVD's but it will not burn DVD's.
When trying to burn a DVD it comes up with following message:
Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred
    (Error code 0x8002006D).
I am trying to burn using Verbatim DVD-R, which I have successfully used in the past.
Any ideas what the problem is, and are there any possible solutions?
    Thanks for any help.

I've never had any issues with it either, I still think it's a good utility.
For burners, an external would be easiest to use as it plugs into a port on the machine. The lacie burners are ok, overall decent software & firmware support. I tore my apart to use the drive in a G4 tower, software all still works!
Get one that can use firewire & usb. the PPC will boot from a firewire external DVD & it could also be used later, if needed, on a machine that doesn't have FW.
Another option is macsales.com here in the States sells the exact same slot drive apple does for about $90. They do ship internationally, about $25 USD to London. If you want an internal solution this would be the way to go.

  • Superdrive error and inability to write DVDs (error code 0x8002006D)

I was attempting to burn media that totaled 4.4 GB on a 4.7 GB single layer quality TDK -DVD-R. It failed on 2 attempts after almost completing the burn, and then on the 3rd attempt i got:
"Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0x8002006d)."
I tried burning a lower capacity CD-R and it worked fine.
Played a music cd and DVD and it played fine
Played a CD-r copy of an original music CD and it worked fine.
I searched the web and it advised that:
    1. your optical lens may be dirty (almost seldom use it, not even to watch DVDs)
    2. a bad batch of media (couldn't be because I have burned from this batch for the past year)
    3. Lens needs calibration (possible via DVD/CD lens cleaners)
    4. try a different brand of media or try a different format DVD+R
My superdrive gets very minimal use, so I knew this couldn't be a "wear & tear" issue. I opted for option 3 and cleaned my drive using a memorex branded "OptiDisc" CD/DVD cleaner. After attempting to play the cleaner, it never did go to an Audio CD option, it merely spun for about 40 sec and spit out the cleaner.
I am happy to report that whatever it did, it must have recalibrated the superdrive. now it successfully burns DVD-R again.
    hope this experience helps.

whatever it did, it must have recalibrated the superdrive
No - it simply cleaned the lens system. Your #1 "1. your optical lens may be dirty (almost seldom use it, not even to watch DVDs)" Low usage might make the matter more likely; all it takes is a little dust or dirt to get on the lens to cause problems.
There are TWO optical systems - one for DVDs and one for CDs. The cleaning disc simply 'brushed off' each optical system lens.
BTW, the burning laser actually calibrates itself to your media before it starts each burn (there is a special area on each writable disc reserved for his purpose).

Well, there are no Apple Articles about that particular code, mostly, I believe, because it is a general error that may be caused by many things. I gave you the most common cause...but now it is time to check a couple of other things.
Have you tried trashing the iDVD preference files?
    Quit iDVD.
Locate a file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and get rid of it. iDVD will create a new one the next time it runs. Empty the trash and run a permission repair using the Disk Utility.
The files you need to trash are found:
    -->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iDVD.plist

  • Error Code "0x8002006D"/Laser unable to burn

I am getting the following set of errors when attempting to do a DATA CD (Desktop) and "Laser unable to write on media" when using iTunes. Any thoughts or suggestions? Drive was working fine when last used a few days ago.

    Hi, Dori.
There are three primary causes for Error Code 0x8002006D.
    1. Dirty lens in your optical drive. The error code means that the burner was unable to perform the power-calibration test for its laser with the media. The test is described in "About optical disc drive burning and write speeds." A dirty lens is the most common cause of this error. Buy a dry CD/DVD lens cleaner at a good electronics or computer store and use it to attempt to clean the lens.
    2. Incompatible media. Many new optical disc formats employ dyes for high-speed burning that may not work with older optical drives. The power calibration test fails, not because of a problem with the lens, but because of an issue with the dyes in the optical media. Try a different brand of media.
    3. Optical drive failing. Your CD/DVD burner is simply worn out or damaged and needs to be replaced.
Note that some of the information above is from the "Burning CDs and DVDs" chapter of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X, Tiger Edition.
    Good luck!

    I have been successfully burning 8X DVD-R until I bought a 16X DVD-R.
I keep getting an error message: error code 0X8002006D when I tried to burn on a 16X DVD-R.
I had no problems with the 8X DVD-R. Unfortunately, they don't sell 8X DVD-R anymore.

Please tell us what burner you have. Look in System
Profiler > Hardware > Disc Burning.
You're using the Finder to burn?
A Google search on this error code turns up a lot of
topics. Some point to the media as the culprit,
others point to Tiger, some to the drive itself.
Fuji isn't a bad brand of media, but it's not
    amongst the best, either.
Generally, an older burner can use 16X media, but
would obviously only be able to burn at the maximum
speed of the drive. It's possible that your drive
doesn't recognize the media code on the disc and
refuses to burn. Sometimes a firmware update to the
    drive can solve this problem.

I have been using my burner since i bought my powerbook and have been using the same cds. About a month ago i tried to burn a cd and got the error code 0x8002006D. I have been unable to burn from there on. I have reinstalled my computer and i continue to have this problem. Other forums suggest that it is a recent update? Any help or suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, angelfire1220. Welcome to the Discussions.

    3. Optical drive failing. Your CD/DVD burner is simply worn out or damaged and needs to be replaced. If your Mac is still under warranty, you may wish to contact AppleCare. If there is an Apple Retail Store in your area, I'd recommend taking it there. You may wish to call ahead to make an appointment at the Genius Bar.

  • Error Code: 0x8002006D Problems burning CDs

I have encountered problems in recent days reading my archive CDs and now I'm having problems burning them. I use good quality IMATION 700Mb CD-Rs and have never had any problem with these before. The CD to be burned loads OK and I can copy the files across OK but when it comes to burning (using the preinstalled burn software) it seems to rush through the files too quickly, then it starts the burn process bar at the top but after a few seconds reports the Error Code 0x8002006D and states that CD can't be written.
I have used a lens cleaner in the last couple of days in the hope that would work but with no luck. Any ideas would be most welcome.

A shelf above a radiator is a definite no-no for data discs, where losing a handful of bits can ruin the data beyond the built-in error correction encoding's ability to recover. Music CDs are more forgiving since you can actually lose quite a few bits and the human brain will compensate by filling in for the missing sounds.
The amount of data being burned shouldn't matter, provided you have enough free space on the hard drive for creation of the temporary invisible scratch file used during burning. A good rule-of-thumb is to maintain at least as much free space as the media to which you're copying data, plus 300 to 500 MB for the Unix swap files in /private/var/vm. For a DVD-burner equipped Mac, you'd want to keep 5 GB or more free space on the hard drive; for a CD-R burner only Mac, you can get as low as around 1.5 GB (in theory --- I'd go with the 5 GB rule of thumb anyway).

  • I'm unable to burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

    Hello all,
I'm unable to burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running 10.4.8. When I go to burn a DVD I get one of two codes 0X8002006D, 0X80020022, why is that a 3,000 CPU cant burn a DVD. My Mac is total up to date with all software and firmware. I saw in the Discussions that I'm not the first person to have this issue but I don't see an answer from Apple, I'm pretty sure it not the DVDs (Memorex DVD-R 16X) because my ****** pc can burn them and it was a 100 pack that I used about 50 from it that I burn on both Macs and the ****** PC. I also have a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5 GB DDR SDRAM running 10.4.8 which is also unable to burn them and it also comes up with the same errors. I have not had this issue until I updated my Macs to 10.4.8, PLEASE HELP.
    Thanks,
    Coons

Yes I can play CDs and DVDs but I was not able to burn a 4.01GB folder, I have since decreased the folder size to 3.75 and was able to burn the DVD. I'm creating another just to double check, my G5 was unable to complete the task and I also gave a shot at a 2.77GB folder and it failed I also gave a 200Mb file a chance but it still did not burn. I was able to burn the same 200MB file on a CD, PLEASE I NEED HELP.

  • Unexpected Error - error code 0x8002006D

I am trying to burn a DVD-R (8x speed) by adding files off my desktop and everytime I add the files and then select burn, i get the error code 0x8002006D preceeded by a message that says "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an un expected error occurred."
It works fine when burning a CD-R, obviously using smaller files. Anybody else experiencing this? Any help on how to correct or what I am doing wrong?
Occasionally I can burn a project from iDVD, but this problem still happens intermittently with that software.

Did this get resolved? I'm having the exact problem but I think it is with the speed rating of the media as I'm using a 8x DVD-R by Memorex which doesn't seem to cut it. The 1x-4x Apple media seems to work just fine but I'm not understanding why the issue.
I since have bought a stack of FUJIFILM DVD-R that don't have an apparent speed rating on them and are clearly 4.7Gb/120Min "Data/Video" rated. Apparently these work just fine but the others don't.
My conclusion is that the Memorex are created for higher-speed burners and the SuperDrive in my PowerBook 17" 1GHz doesn't appear to support the speed.

The 2131 is usually associated with older versions of the firmware for the TS-L632H, josh.
The TMC0 is a firmware revision I haven't seen before ... presumably it's an Advent-supplied version. Check in with Advent (or Dixon's?) technical support to see if they have a later version available. If you update to the higher firmware version, does that get you past the 2131?

  • Unable to burn dvds

I am unable to burn dvds. I'm attempting to backup my iphoto library. When I drag and drop I get an alias icon on the dvd, it does not copy. When I go ahead and try and burn, the disk is ejected and i get them message, "an error has occured" This is my first attempt at burning a dvd.

Take a look at system profiler whether your drive is capable of writing the format you have chosen.
