Unable to burn to disk or make img file, desperate!±

hey guys,
I am trying to burn or make an image file out of my project.
It is a simple project with only a 20 minute movie.
when i preview in idvd everthing seems ok. the music works, and everything plays flawless.
however, after i try to make ain mage file, or burn a disc, and i try to watch it with the os x dvd player, nothing works. it freezes all the time, for long periods. Actually, its frozen most of the time and hardly ever moves. this goes for everything on the disc. I got to the menu once, but that too iss moving like a robot with a headache. the movie itself also does not work. On top of all of this there is no sound anywhere!
I tried both the best performance and the best quality options.
I really hope someone can help me, im really desperate!
My info:
newest software versions of everything.
Mac G5 Quad-core with 2 gig Ram and 10.4.8
I hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Patrick
G5, Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

hey mate,
thanks for your reply./
yeah, like i said, everything is up to date, also qt pro.
I tried the dvd in some home cinema players, and it seems to work fine there, so i guess the issue is with the mac dvd player on my G5 which must be broekn then. Since it wont play the mounted image file nor the dvd if i burn one of the project, at 1X speed.
Do you know by any chance how I can reinstall the apple dvd player software? I tried looking on my software/OS X cds, but its not on there, at least not as a seperate install...
Thanks again mate!
Cheers,
Patrick

  • My itunes will not burn CD's...everytime I attempt to burn a CD it gets to the finishing disk point and says it is unable to burn the disk

Each time i attempt to burn a CD, it quits right before it is finished and flashes an "error" message. if i try to play the CD it show up with how many song are on the disk, but no music plays.

Try a different disc manufacture. I have good luck with Maxell.
And make sure the disc is free of smudges and finner prints so the optical disk can write data to it.

  • how to convert Video_TS folder in to a img. file ?

I don't no how this happen, my project was built in a Video_TS + Audio_TS folder and a dmg. file was create. I did not save the project and all I have are those files ... I want to have a img. file that I can burn using Disk Utility. How can I do this ?
    Merci,
    Jean

    Hi Jean,
I'm slightly confused by your post. You say that a DMG file was created, right? A DMG file is the type of image file that is burned by disk utility. IMG files are image files that are burned on Windows PCs. So, if you have already have a DMG file, just open it in disk utility and burn. However, if you only have the Video_ts folder, and wish to make it into a DMG, then you can use the free utility DVD Imager which will create a DMG out of a Video_ts folder. Good Luck!

  • Disk Utlity can't burn .img files to disk

I'm newly digitizing old Beta tapes via a Canopus capture card. I've output my IMovie/iDVD projects to image files, but when I use Disk Utility to burn a DVD from the .img file I get nothing but verification errors and different checksums. I'm using Apple 4.7 Gb disks. The DVDs seem to play OK on my home Toshiba player, maybe with some stalling.
If I burn the iMovie/iDVD project directly to a DVD and then create a disk image file from that disk, Disk Utility burns successful copies from the .dmg file even on cheap-o Memorex disks.
I'm perplexed. This seems backwards. Could it be the difference between .img and .dmg files? Maybe I'm not using Disk Utility correctly in selecting/mounting/opening the image files...?I must say that Disk Utility Help is not very helpful.
I have the same problem on my new LaCie drive and the old SuperDrive.

    More info:
After further investigation I 'discovered' Disk Utility:Images:Convert in the Disk Utility menubar. When I converted .img files to .dmg they seem to burn easily and accurately. I wonder why this isn't documented.
I'm wondering what the functional difference is between .dmg and .cdr image files.

  • Unable to burn disk on my mac book

Do you know why I am unable to  burn a disk on my mac if it suddenly says the device does not have enough laser power for the media?

try using compressed air with the straw and blow short bursts into the optical drive.  I know a friend who has this same problem and this was a fix for them.

  • Can't Import or Burn a disk from a Video_TS folder

I have a series of files in a Video_TS folder that play fine in DVD player (with all menus etc) but I'm unable to burn a disk with them. When I try to import them into DVD studio I get an unreadable format error. When I examinde them in the finder I see that they have a "unix executable file association".
Any idea how I can make this into a burnable DVD image?

  • Unique title for MY_GREAT_DVD burned with Disk Utility

composed movie in Final Cut Express 4.0.1->sent to IMovie 09 for chapters->to IDVD 09->to Disk Utility for. img file before burning DVD. [BTW, had some "multiplex errors" until I took periods (decimal points) out of chapter marker titles].
Problem is that even though the file is named *.img in the finder the volume created is ALWAYS called "MYGREATDVD" and that's the title of the DVD icon after the actually DVD is inserted into drive.
Anyway to get the DVD to be named what I call it???

"MYGREATDVD" is the name of the DVD as assigned (by default) in iDVD.
However whenever I burn a disc image to Dvd-R, nine times out of ten I'll also use Roxio Toast. And here's where one is allowed to change the name. At least that's where I normally address this type of change/s. If you don't already own Toast, then one can also substitute apple's disc utility for this purpose as well.
Another option might be to go to the menu in iDvd, select Project, then Project Info, then in the top block, next to Disc Name:, type in your desired disk name. I hope this helps but if not just come on back.

What was the original source? Do you still have it? I am importing .mov files now that were converted using mpegstream clip from a .dv file to an apple motion jpeg to improve quality. I am importing fine. Appleman1958 seems to always have the answers, but he will need more info....what was the original source and what were the exact export specs.

  • Archiving idvd video image (.img) files

    Hi -
I've made some digital video DVD's using the disk utility program to burn the image files onto DVD's to play in a stand alone DVD player.
Now I want to archive those same video image files, as .img files to be used for burning future playable DVD disks and get them off my storage drive to free up space.
My question is, can I just drag the .img file into My toast window and by using disk image from the pull down option under "Other" burn them onto a DVD disk - if so can I put on more than one or as many that will fit?
Or do I need to use the DVD option from the pull down, create New DVD and then drag my image file or files over.
Or is there some other way???
Don't want to keep experimenting wasting all my DVD's - been there, done that - trying to burn my idvd projects using idvd - making image files first then burning through disk utility works much better!
    Jen

can I also put the original raw "imovie project" file on the same dvd disk as the ".img file" for that movie and then also how about the whole "archived.dvdproj" project file?
the only thing is that the "archived.dvdproj" is huge, can Stuffit be use to condense the file first?
As you pointed out, iMovie project file is huge, it probably wouldn't fit into a DVD. Stuffit probably wouldn't able to codense it that much either. Using an external firewire hard drive to offload the files is one option. Another option is using a backup software which can span across multiple DVDs (Toast 7 Titanium has this new feature).

  • Unable to burn AUDIO to DVD or Disk image, video is fine

As many other posts have stated; I am unable to burn the Audio portion of an iDVD nor does "save as disk image" transfer the audio of my iDVD. Transferred an iMovie, (an iPhoto set of photos with iTunes audio imported into iMovie) to iDVD. Audio plays on iMovie, audio plays on iDVD preview. Tried removing recommended ~com.apple.iXXX.plist, no help. Tried different encoding methods: i.e. Best/High/Professional. Tried saving to different sizes HD/Large/etc. Tried Share Media in iTunes, Media Browser, etc. Checked Main Audio, volume slider bar in iDVD. Tried importing audio into iDVD rather than transferring from iMovie. It doesn't seem to matter how I build the iDVD it works, until I go to Save As Disk Image or Burn DVD. Video works great (better in Large than HD) Audio doesn't transfer.
21 total minutes, 1.15GB of final iDVD using a default theme.

    Hi
(an iPhoto set of photos with iTunes audio imported into iMovie) to iDVD
Yes this is the problem - in iTunes there is a copy-protection that moves over
    Result
    • Plays well in iMovie
    • Plays well in iDVD preview
    • Silent on DVD
Only way around this is to in iTunes collect needed audio into a play-list
Burn this out as an Audio-CD and .aiff (NOT .mp3)
Use the audio on this CD in Your iMovie project.

The optical drive has probably failed. It's a fairly common thing with these slim SuperDrives. Does it read any discs you put into it? You can try resetting the SMC and pram but I'll be surprised if it helps.
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Error message when burning .img file

I got this message when trying to burn a .img file: "Unable to burn "disk 4" - the device failed to respond properly . unable to recover or re-try.
this happened twice in a row, I suppose that means it wasnt a defective DVD (using verbatim)
I am running Tiger 10.4.7 with a Dual 1.8 Gz Processor.

    Hi there
It would appear you are trying to furnish an image and you are trying that by replying via email with the image either embedded or as an attachment.
Unfortunately those don't survive the trip into the forum post. If you have an image to show, please visit the forum web page where you started this thread and use the camera icon to insert the image.

  • Burning several disk images in one DVD

Is it possible to bun 2 disk images on a DVD? I tried in DU but if both .img are selected,"Burn" is greyed.
Alternatively, how can I combine 2 disk images into one, so that DU will accept to burn it?
I found the following advice a Forum:
A .dmg file is a disk image, and can be treated like any other disk. You can copy the contents of one into another, or make a new blank image and copy their contents into that.
I did that, but, as I said, DU doesn't agree
Those disk images contain home videos which have been edited in iMovie 5, but cannot be burned in iDVD because my Mac mini has no DVD burner. So I create a disk image in iDVD and use DU -> Images -> burn on an external burner.
Also, is it possible to rename a DVD? For some reason the latest DVD is bearing the same name as the DVD burned just before it.

your whole topic is Finder-related, MacOs allows/supports simple drag'n drop...
your both .imgs exist at some location of your Mac, right?
    no app needed nor running...
    insert an empty dvd-r
your Mac will ask you what to do...
you do: drag'n drop both .img files onto disk...
hit the burn button in disk's window..
    no step 3), boom! done..

  • I give up!!!  iDVD will not burn a disk

I will try to give as much information as I can.  I have been struggling with iDVD for a couple weeks.  It will not burn a disk that has a complete menu.  Let me explain.  I've been  testing it to see if it would burn a disk at various stages of development.  It will burn a disk if I just import the video to iDVD with no menu.  It will burn a disk with partial menu and chapters.  But it will not burn a disk if I have an entire menu, with all the chapter markers, drop zones filled and music.
    Help, please.
    Thank you!!

    Hi
Yes - info - but not really the one I would need. There are so much that can go wrong and in different layers (steps of progress)
    A. First - What You feed iDVD - QuickTime-player can open and play so many more VIDEO-CODECs than iDVD ever can use (it is very picky)
    B. There is the notorious - iDVD BUG - that set's of by going back to Video-Editing program (iMovie, FinalCut or whatever) - then returning to the iDVD project. iDVD will notice but non of the alternatives works - I create a brand new iDVD project - only safe way for me - AND THEN NO RETURN AT ALL !
    C. What other material is used - for menus as Music, Photos and small Video sequences
    D. What Theme was used
BTW - Creating a DVD without a Menu - You must be the only one I've ever heard that was able to do this - It is an often discussed topic here.
    E. And if Your project now runs OK in iDVD - SAVE AS A DISKIMAGE (File menu down to bottom topic)
    F. Does this .img file run OK (Simulated DVD)
    G. Burn it with Disk Util tool.
    H. On What BRAND and Type of DVD ? I only use Verbatim DVD-R (SL-Single Layer)
You see - that it is this kind of info that helps me to make, may be good Guessing's.

  • Unable to Burn DVD due to Verification Failure

I am trying to make a backup copy of my Leopard Install DVD. It is a 7.2 GB file so I used Disk Utility to make a disk image of the DVD, then tried to burn the disk image to a Sony DVD+R Dual Layer disk (8.5 GB). Everything seemed to be working just fine, the burn process completed but at the very end I got an error message stating: Unable to burn "MAC OS X Install DVD Copy" (verification of the burn failed)
Is this a factor of the media used or something else? The disk image I created on my desktop appears to be fully functional. I put a copy of the disk image on a backup drive but I would prefer to have it on DVD media if possible.

    Hi Howwow,
Yes I was stuck with Sony DVD+R DLs tonight but thought I would try one anyway. I have to use a Dual Layer DVD due to the file size. From my reading on these forums it seems the DVD+R DLs are recommended. Single Layer DVDs seems to favor DVD-R for burning. I have heard that the Verbatim brand seems to burn well with consistency. I will try to locate some Verbatim DLs of both types tomorrow unless anyone has other specific suggested media or reasons for the verification failure.
    Thanks for the input.
