Unable to calibrate X201t pen under Windows 8

I am unable to calibrate the pen of my X201t any longer. The first time I click the "Calibrate" button in Tablet PC Settings the white screen with the crosshair markers in the four screen corners appears but it always disappears by itself within seconds (i.e. before I even have a chance to hit any corner). Apparently this thing crashes, because subsequent clicks on "Calibrate" are then always ignored. (i.e. there is no reaction if I click the button again). A reheat brings this back as described, i.e. for a single time and for a few seconds only.
Please advise, what I can do to get this operational again, as I urgently need to recalibrate my pen as its calibration is increasingly off and it gets harder and harder to use it decently.
This is on a X201t running Windows 8 Pro (x64 version).

Hi, mmo
I would recommend booting the machine into Safe Mode to see if the calibration works here. As the calibration program keeps crashing quickly, it sounds like it is a software issue, and attempting the calibration while in Safe Mode is a good step.
To boot into Safe Mode in Windows 8:
Open the Charms Bar on the right-hand side.
Select Settings.
Select Change PC settings.
Select General.
Scroll to the bottom of the right-hand pane.
Select Restart Now under Advanced startup.
Select Advanced Repair Options.
Select Troubleshoot
Select Advanced Options
Select Windows Startup Settings
Click Restart.
Upon rebooting, press 4 to boot into Safe Mode or 5 to boot into Safe Mode with Networking (allows Internet access.)
Try using the calibration here and see if it goes any better for you.
Best of luck,
Adam

  • Unable to launch jobs in OEM under Windows XP

I have not found a way to successfully launch a job in OEM 2.2 (Oracle 8i) under Windows XP. All jobs fail with a VNI-2015 authentication error. According to the Oracle documentation, this is because the preferred credentials have not been correctly set up. In fact, I have set up both the database and the node preferred credentials, specifying my Windows username and password for the latter, but it still doesn't work. The Oracle documentation states that the user has to be granted the "login as batch" privilege - but I can see nowhere in Windows XP where this can be done. In any case, I would have thought that, as administrator, I have all the necessary privileges (including "login as batch").
    Can anyone help ?

Hi, had similar problem on Windows 2000. Under Admin tools I selected Local Security Policy, Local Policies, User Rights Assignment and then added NT user to Logon as Batch. However, not sure whether these options are available under XP?

  • Firefox does not "close" when closed under Windows 7; Task Manager must be used to "End Process." How do I close Firefox and reopen it without getting a "Still Running" error message?

Even though Firefox has been updated multiple times (currently using Ver. 3.6.13) since I started using Windows 7, I am still unable to totally close it from the toolbar or taskbar. Firefox does closeout on the screen but apparently continues to run in the background. If I open Firefox at a later time, I get an error message stating that Firefox is still running. I then have to go Task Manager to "End Process." Electing to do so allows me to restart Firefox. I never had this problem with Firefox when using Windows XP and I never have this problem with any other software under Windows 7.

  • Sending e-mails under Windows 8.1 (smpt server is not avaible)

I am unable to send emails neither under Thunderbird nor under Windows Mail (gmx and web accounts), receving emails no problem. I tried to temporarily halt Kaspersky but to no avail. Settings as per provider are correctly made under smpt. Any idea?

    hi runningmanfred,
Just to verify, were you able to send email via Thunderbird before you installed Kaspersky? Also, most lenovo computers have Mcafee Security Software pre-installed, if you have this, did you remove it before installing Kaspersky?
    Things that you can try:
    1. Run Mcafee Removal Tool to ensure no traces of mcafee software are installed on the system
    2. If the kaspersky comes with a firewall protection, try to turn temporarily turn it off too and observe.
If you were able to send email before and the above steps doesn't work, consider uninstalling Kaspersky (reboot if necessary) and observe. If you get an error removing Kaspersky, try the Kaspersky Removal Tool.
    Regards

  • Authorisations to run Adobe Reader under Windows 8

Under windows 8 with adobe reader 11, I have not been able to launch the program. Each time the system says I don't have the authorisations required (even when I follow instructions to get additional authorisations which I seem unable to obtain despite using the normal sequence of "properties" , "security" " advanced  etc. and in this case I get the following message in the "target" slot"
The name "c:\program files\adobe\READER 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" is not valid. Verify that the routing (?) and the name of the file are correct
when I click on  the Security tag although the location of the programes of Adobe Reader 11 are in fact in the location detailed above. It would seem that windows 8 has a security system that I don't seem to be able to adjust. (I have used Acrobat under Vista and under XP without these problems) . At the moment and after three days of efforts I am still incapable of getting Reader 11 to run..

  • PCMCIA-FBus Series 2 is not recognized under Windows XP

I'm trying to get a PCMCIA-FBus Series 2 card work under Windows XP Professional SP2 toghether with an Elan P111 PCI to PCMCIA Adapter, but when I plug in the card Windows does not recognize it - I only get a "pcmcia unknown_manufacturer" message and no driver is installed.
I've tried to install the driver manually, but then I get an error code 10, Device could not be started.
    The Computer is a Dell Optiplx 740, AMP Athlon 64 X2 3800+. NI-Configurator v3.1, v3.1.1 and v3.2.1 have been tested. The Elan P111 driver is PSeries v5.07.08.

    Hi,
I am not sure whether this PCI-PCMCIA adapter works well with Windows XP SP2.  I suggest that you also contact the adapter manufacturer for the compatibility issue.
We did do some test on Elan PCI-PCMCIA adapter, but I am sorry that we are unable to make verifications on all kinds of hardware and software combination. There exists the possibilities that the adapter does not work on some PC's.
Another suggestion that you can try is to install the PCI-PCMCIA adapter driver on a clean Dell Optiplx 740 (Windows XP SP2 without Microsoft hotfix ). I think this can help you identify whether there are compatibility problems between the adapter and system.

  • Joystick problem in DOS Shell under Windows XP

(I had previously posted this in another forum on the Internet, copy 'n' pasted here to save me a bit of typing) I can't seem to to get my joysticks and/or gamepads functioning in a DOS shell under Windows XP. Initially I was trying to run Death Rally under 'DOSBox', and couldn't get the game to recognize my Gravis Gamepad. At first I thought the problem might be with DOSBox, but then realized that the gamepad wasn't recognized under a simple DOS shell as well. I have a P4 2.66ghz CPU, running Windows XP Pro w/SP2, with a Sound Blaster Li've Value CT4780 that has a standard gameport on it. I can calibrate the gamepad within Windows XP and it appears to be working fine (my MIDI keyboard works fine as well, it uses the gameport of the sound card too). In a DOS shell (as well as under DOSBox), the gamepad isn't recognized at all. I tried several DOS games (e.g. DOOM/Duke 3D/Death Rally/Stargunner/etc...), as well as a little QBasic joystick tester that I had whipped together years ago... no dice, the gamepad isn't recognized under DOS (or DOSBox); even though in Windows XP (in the 'Game Controllers' applet in the control panel) it works just fine. Windows games work fine with the gamepad, but nada in a DOS shell or DOSBox. Note that I had never previously checked if the gameport and/or joysticks were working on this PC under DOS, I just discovered it the other day. Any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated (edit) P.S. One thing that I just tried: I booted from a flash dri've to W98 DOS and loaded the SBLi've DOS drivers. The gameport/gamepad works fine like this (with my JoyTest utility, as well as the gameport being reported in MSD). So, I'm sure that the gameport and gamepad is woking under nati've DOS, it simply isn't recognized in a DOS shell under Windows XP. ('nuther edit) In Windows' device manager, the gameport is listed as 'Creative Game Port', with I/O address of DF08-DF0F. The 'Use automatic settings' checkbox and 'Change setting' button is grayed out, so's I can't piddle with those settings. In the old(er) DOS/W9x days (with standard non-PNP hardware) the standard gameport address was (what was it's) 200 (maybe 20?). Could this be the problem, that the Creative Game Port I/O address is set for an obscure address (that I can't seem to change)? Maybe there is a way to change it to a standard setting? 7

    thank you very much

  • How to turn off volume adjustment sound under Windows 7

    Hey all,
I'm running Windows7 x64 on an Intel iMac (July 2010 revision).
Things are running well for the most part. However, I am unable to find a way to turn off the blooping sound played when adjusting the volume in Windows 7 (I know how to turn it off in OS X). I have tried turning off all system sounds under Windows, but the volume adjustment sound still plays. Does anyone know how to turn this off? I find it jarring. I would appreciate any help that anyone can give.
    Thanks.

That too bad because I use the MBP to do my radio show and it's very annoying. I know you can turn it off on the mac side.

  • Running  javafx on a 64 bit machine under Windows 7

I want to run javafx on a 64 bit machine under Windows 7. I receive the following log when running simple "Hello World" program:
    init:
    deps-jar:
    compile:
    jar:
    standard-run:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Unable to load native library: Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform
BUILD FAILED (total time: 0 seconds)
Looking at sys requirements for javafx, I see that only 32 bit windows is supported. I did, though, succeed in doing a (64 Bit) build within netbeans after added a JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to my JDK directory (from Win 64 bit download).
Please can anyone explain what I need to do so that (preferably) a javafx application runs 64 bit or if no choice how I can direct a 32 bit run without effecting most of the development tools that do support 64 bit?
By the way, when running from command line:
    +"D:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.8\javafx2\javafx-sdk\bin\javafx.exe" -version+
I receive same error as above:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Unable to load native library: Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform
    David Ziants

I also tried adding to my system environment path variable: %JAVA_HOME%\bin;%JAVA_HOME%\jre\bin;and this did not help.
    My webstart properties are:
    $label=Web Start
    execution.target=jnlp
javafx.profile=desktopbut I think the matter is more basic because I also receive the same error from the command line:
    "D:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.8\javafx2\javafx-sdk\bin\javafx.exe" -versionas I already mentioned.

  • 9i R2 under Windows Server 2003

    Hi all,
    I installed 9i R2 under Windows Server 2003,
will there be any technical issues on this installation.
Since after the installation, I created a Database using
the Database Configuration Assistant, DB creation was
successfull, but was unable to connect to the DB immdtly.
I restarted the machine to get connected. I'm not a DBA
can anyone help me in understanding why this happened?
Is 9i R2 Compatible with window server 2003?
    Thanks.

According to Metalink Certification matrix, Win 2003 requires at least 9.2.0.3 Patch set (also available 9.2.0.4, 9.2.0.5 and 9.2.0.6).

  • Hi I am unable to install itunes on my Windows 8 64 bit PC, can you help please

Hi I am unable to install itunes on my Windows 8 64 bit PC, can you help please

    Many thanks.
the message I get says unable to remove old version of itunes
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • HTMLBrowser PJC under Windows XP

    Hi
I have tried installing the htmlbrowser pjc available here:
    http://forms.pjc.bean.over-blog.com/article-1890238.html
I could not get the pjc to work. I raised this as a SR with oracle support which is here
    https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=110:20:8078722417852957408::::P20_TARNUM,P20_CTRYCODE:5690790.993,840
When I run the supplied demo form I get the error:
"unable to build HTML pane for http://sheikyerbouti.developpez.com/beantimer/beantimer.htm:java.io.IOException: Connection failure with 407"
I thought it might be related to the intial URL being used so I tried to edit the java source and deploy a new .jar file. After I signed the new jar and ran the demo form I saw the following error in the java console.
Forms Applet version is : 10.1.2.0
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection
    failed.
Oracle support confirmed that they had the same problem under Windows XP but the PJC worked fine under Windows 2000.
Has anybody used this PJC successfully on windows XP? Or can anybody tell me what I need to do to fix it for XP?
As a secondary question - why do I see the class not found exception after compiling the source into a .jar?
    thanks
    Paul Schweiger

While I never used linux, I highly doubt this. A 99.99999999573% doubt, to be exact.
you can't run a windows application on a mac or on old versions of windows - it's quite simply a completely different system. Plus, I'm not even sure linux has EXE files.
I think you can use a windows emulator to run these files, but I doubt this will work well if you have hardware, and will probably even be slower than windows(due to the emulation).
All that said, you should be able write VIs in LV windows and then open them in LV linux and build the application, assuming they don't have windows dependant code. Also, what do you mean by real-time? If you're doing real real-time-absolutly-can't-fail stuff, a PC won't be the right thiing anyway. If a machine has window without a lot of junk in it, it's stable. We have used this kind of setup with windows XP and it is stable. I think your real question should be "has anyone done benchmarks on my kind of LV applications in windows vs. linux". Hope this helps.
Try to take over the world!

  • FAQ: Fix for Problem Printing PostScript "to file" Under Windows 2000

    PROBLEM
A number of Acrobat users under Windows 2000 have reported a problem in which printing via the PostScript driver fails when printing "to file" instead of to a standard printer port (such an LPT, USB, TCP/IP port, or even Acrobat's internal port). Printing "to file" refers to the ability to check an option in programs such as FrameMaker or Microsoft Word that causes the PostScript that would have gone to a "real" printer port, to go to a specified file name, prompted for by the driver or application itself. The symptom of the failure may be either (1) no file produced and/or (2) a nondescript error message about "unable to print."
Although we have not yet heard of this problem occurring under Windows XP, we have no reason to believe it couldn't given the extreme similarity in architecture and software components. If you are seeing this with Windows XP, please advise me of this via email and simply substitute "Windows XP" for "Windows 2000" for your purposes in this posting.
    CAUSE
The problem is caused by a missing printing port named "FILE:" used by the driver whenever it, guess what, prints "to file." This port is automatically created when Windows 2000 is installed and normally would never disappear. What seems to be happening, based upon reports that I have received from several end users, is that under some conditions yet unidentified, uninstalling one version of Acrobat in preparation for installation of another (newer) version of Acrobat causes the "FILE:" port to be deleted from the system. This printing port deletion does not appear to be caused by any end-user error.
Adobe's Acrobat Quality Assurance group has been alerted to the problem, but to date has been unable to internally reproduce the problem. We would appreciate any information from any user who encounters this problem in terms of exactly how the Acrobat Distiller printer instance was being used prior to an uninstall of Acrobat (for example, were you printing a FrameMaker book "to file" with the
Acrobat Distiller printer instance for purposes of subsequently distilling the whole book manually?)
    FIX
Fortunately, it is very easy to add the "FILE:" port back into the operating system:
    (1) Logon to Windows 2000 as a user with Administrator privileges.
    (2) Go to Start=>Settings=>Printers.
    (3) Select File=>Server Properties.
    (4) Click the "Ports" tab.
    (5) Click "Add Port".
    (6) Select "Local Port" and click "New Port".
    (7) In response to "Enter a port name:" respond "FILE:" (without the surrounding quote marks, of course) and click OK.
    (8) The "FILE:" port should now be in the list of available ports. You may close the remaining dialogs.
At this point, printing "to file" should work correctly. Most likely, you will not see the problem reoccur unless you do another round of uninstalls of Acrobat.

You need to download and install the ADPDF9.PPD printer description and use it instead of Device Independent.
