Unable to call when I have a subscription and credit

Hi. I have the unlimited world subscription, which says that it allows calls to Canadian landlines and mobiles. I also have $35.00 in Skype credit. But when I go to call a mobile number in Canada, by choose Call Phones from the bar on the left, choosing the country, entering the number (which is now stored as a recent number), and then clicking on the phone icon in the upper left, nothing happens ... nothing dials, I get no sign that a call has been initiated, and no error message. Nothing happens. The phone number is correct; it has +1 (Canada/US) followed by ten digits. I have read all of the Skype Community posts with similar topics, but none of them describe this specific problem, or offer a solution. I am running what I believe to be the most recent version of Skype (7.6.0.105) for Windows. Would be grateful for some suggestion about what to try next.

Hi Claudius, When I follow your suggestion, I can get as far as entering the contact name and number. But then I have to click on either "Add Number" or "Cancel". When I roll the mouse over "Cancel", it goes grey, and I can click on it ... which has the predictable effect of canceling the attempt to enter the number. When I roll over "Add Number", it does not go grey. When I try clicking on it anyway, nothing happens. So my only active choice is "Cancel". I can't implement the second part of your suggestion because I cannot get any phone numbers into my contact list.
