Unable to capture 2 audio tracks

FCP refuses to capture 2 audio channels?! I have one mic on channel 1 and another mic on channel 2 but FCP captures only 1 mono track eventhough in Clip Setting both channel 1 and 2 are selected. Does anybody know what could be wrong?
Another thing is that when I have captured a clip - it won´t appear automatically in the Browser as it always has done? Now I need to import the Clip from my Project folder. FCP going crazy.

  • Problems capturing audio track

I am having a problem capturing from my DV camera into Final Cut Pro (version 5.1.4) on a souped up G4. I made a few changes to the hardware configuration recently, but the problem started prior to these upgrades so I don't think it is related. I installed an ATA drive and replaced a defective USB2/FW800 Sonnet card.
I thought I had a problem with the playback head on the camera when the capture issues first started. I got black horizontal bars on the screen of the camera as well as on the screen when I attempted to capture footage. I also got timecode error messages. I was able to capture some of the tape in FCP using a different camera, but upon examination I noticed both audio tracks are missing small segments of data. There are a few blank spots scattered throughout the footage. The picture is fine. The problem is in the audio tracks only. both tracks in the same area.
One of the camera repair people I talked to said the tape could be bad. Does this make sense if only the audio track is missing segments and the picture track is complete?
Thanks, I appreciate any help you can give me in figuring this out.

Thanks for your suggestions and opinion. I am reading everyone's comments. In order to get the most from this discussion, please answer each of these questions separately so the people who are following it will have no trouble following the answers that apply to each.
I distinctly remember when I was shooting the footage of the problem tape, the picture looked fine. It was not until I tried to review the tape that the problem appeared.
    1. Is it possible that the camera works for shooting but the camera playback head is causing problems?
    2. Can a bad playback head damage the tape on playback?
    2. Can shooting onto a bad tape damage a camera?
    3. Is it possible to shoot with a camera with a bad playback and then use another drive for playback?
Thanks for your help. I do know a few people who are having playback problems, since all the tape cameras are getting old, so we appreciate this discussion.

  • Unable to capture audio from BlackMagic HD Extreme via Voice Over tool

    Hi !
I'm trying to capture audio via my BlackMagic HD Extrem card using the Voice Over tool in FCP6, but I can't, no audio is incoming.
I can ingest audio with video using log and capture, then I know my card and my cables are working.
I tried to set the BM card as audio input in my Audio's System Prefereces Pane, but it isn't working either.
I've been looking on the BM website, but I found nothing.
    Can you help me ?
    Thx

    Thanks for the reply.
Looking at system preferences I found that audio input was set microphone. Don't know how it happened. I switched it to DeckLink and now FCP displays 16 input channels in Log and Capture dialog. I didn't try to capture yet but I think it solved the problem, because before I had only two channels displyed.

  • Unable to capture audio

    Hi,
Last week I updated the drivers for my Blackmagic Multibridge extreme. Now when I try to capture the material in FinalCutPro 5.1.4 I can see the picture, hear the sound on my monitors (they are connected directly to Multibridge), but the captured material doesn't have sound, because it takes the sound from the internal audio input. I tried to capture from Blackmagic Deck Control (an external application) and it works fine, it captures with sound. So I suspect I have to change the audio input in FCP, but dont know where. In audio/video settings in FCP everything is set to DeckLink (Multibrige extreme).
    Where is the problem?
    Thanks,
    Simon

  • How can I capture Audio Only?

    Hello,
I have FCEHD 3.0 and would like to capture audio tracks only with Capture Now (from a non-controllable device via Canopus). There is no "Audio Only" option in the capture window. Any ideas??
    Thanks,
    C.J

    Hi(Bonjour)!
No way to capture audio only with capture command.
Simply delete the video track in the timeline.
    Or:
Plug your camcorder audio output in your in-line socket on your mac with an audio 1/8" wire, do a voice over record.
The resulting audio file will be a "analog" one.
You can also use a sound editing programm like Sound studio or audacity to capture your audio-in content, and import the resulting file in FCE.

  • Grouping a clip's mono audio tracks after capture

Every time I drag a clip to the timeline, I have to click on the clip, and link the audio tracks as a stereo pair, which is really annoying. After a while, I realized that this is because whoever captured the clips forgot to group tracks a1 and a2 together, so now the clips all have two seperate mono tracks.
Now that the clips are already captured, how do I group the two audio tracks into a stereo pair?

    Hey Red Truck,
It sounds like you're pretty much doing everything right. My guess is that if your footage was shot, "logged and transfered" with 4 mono audio tracks (like a lot of HD tapeless stuff does, XDCAM, P2) then this little trick might not actually work. If your footage was shot, logged and digitized as 2 mono tracks (again, maybe the diff being a 2 channel miniDV tape as opposed to the common 4 channel HD stuff) the trick usually works. But truthfully, once in a while I noticed it doesn't work and am still unable to explain why.
I kinda have a feeling that I've only ever used the trick on DV-NTSC and DVCPRO 50 two-channel footage and not on HD footage that typically comes in 4 channel mono off P2 and XDCAM.
I'll try to do a test at my end and see if I'm even in the ballpark on this guess. I'm also assuming you're trying this on 4-channel HD footage since you mentioned "...(or four) mono audio tracks" in your post. If you are, for the fun of it, media manage an HD clip down to DV-NTSC with 2 channel stereo audio and try the trick.
It does work as I've done it numerous times on shows in FCP when assist editors accidentally logged and batch captured hours and hours of footage as dual mono instead of stereo.

  • Audio tracks suddenly missing from capture... need help!

Hi! I have been capturing video (with audio) successfully and routinely for months now. Suddenly, though, when I capture video... from the same device, with the same preset... the clips have only 1 Video track, and no Audio tracks. My camera is still recording audio (and I still hear it during the capture), but the audio tracks just aren't there in the resultant clip. It seems to me like FCE has just decided not to capture audio, as if to say "pffft... we don't need that." But why this happened is beyond me!
Even within this same project, I have other clips captured with audio just fine. I didn't even realize it was an option NOT to capture audio. There aren't any settings to that effect in the Capture window... i.e. there's nothing to turn OFF, so I don't know how to turn it back ON! HELP! How do I get audio back on my captured clips? Is there a way to toggle this? How can I possibly be getting video without audio when the preset has already been working for this device?
Things seemed to change once I started using the Voice Over tool. After that, none of my captured clips have audio. Something I did on or around that time changed FCE internally. I combed through the manual but didn't see any leads. They assume if you have the right preset, it'll just work. No mention of disabling audio.
Please help, because I'm just about ready to throw my Mac throw the wall. I even tried reinstalling FCE, just to get it back to the previous state, but it didn't help.
P.S. I also haven't changed anything on my camera that would affect audio. I feel this is just a setting somewhere in FCE that I can't find and don't even know where to look for it...
    Thanks in advance!!

Hi. Where should I look for them? I haven't had much success finding things on my own, so please spell it out for me.
I just find this so odd... it would be one thing for the tracks to be silent or garbled, then I would think this was a cable issue or the camera. But I can't even imagine why the audio tracks would just not be there. If I saw a preference for "Video Only Capture" somewhere, it would make sense.
Anyway, thanks. Please tell me where there's a prefs file, and I'll roast it.

  • How to delete 4 out of 6 audio tracks that were captured into FCP?

I accidentally left all the mono tracks setting on while capturing video and audio media files. I would like to know how to get rid of 4 out of the 6 tracks other than when the clip is cut into a sequence then I delete the extra tracks.
    PowerPC G5 4x 2.5 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Kona card

I've never tried this, so I'm not sure of the gotchas you might need to overcome, but if you open the media file in QuickTime Player (Pro), and go to Window > Show Movie Properties, you can delete any of the audio tracks you care to, by dragging them to the Trash, or click Delete, or choose Edit > Cut, or press Delete.
I'm thinking that if you go that route, you might need to delete the clip in the Browser first, make the changes in QTPP, then Import that media file into the Browser. Otherwise, FCP might complain about the track deletions.
Or maybe after making those changes in QTPP, Export as a different filename and Import that file into the FCP Browser, keeping the original as is. Just guessing.
But I repeat: I've never tried this.

  • Monitor audio tracks not currently being captured?

While logging and/or capturing, I would like to be able to hear what's going on in an audio track I have not currently selected for log or capture. This way, I can keep an eye -or rather ear- on whether the sound man added a second mic between takes or something interesting has developed with the boom audio.
It appears as if I can only monitor what I've selected to log or capture in the Audio portion of the Clip Settings tab of the Log and Capture tool. Is that true? If I think I don't want it, I don't get to hear it?
    Martin

That is the FIREWIRE feed. There are still audio outputs on the back of the deck. If there are more than two, you are in luck. If there aren't, then SOL.

  • Capturing only 1 audio track when there are 2 audio tracks

Has this happened to anybody ?
I had to fiddle with the capture settings in Final Cut to accommodate for progressive HDV video. When I changed it back to my normal interlaced HDV video, I had trouble with the sound tracks. (I have tried changing all the settings in the HDV 50i possibilities. I'm in europe)
I only get one sound track in stead of two (but I can hear both sound tracks when I capture).
If I get 2 sound tracks, They aren't imported into the project. If I try to import them without restarting, final cut doesn't recognize them.
But recently, no matter what I do (changing settings) I only get 1 audio track.
    Ideas ?
    Thanks !

I would like to add to this thread. I have this same issue, it's extraordinarily frustrating, and I'm not finding any useful information online. This is a serious bug and hopefully it can be addressed.
    FCP 7.0.2
    MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    16 GB RAM
    Mac OS 10.6.4
I'm trying to capture HDV 1080i footage shot on a Sony V1U, using a Sony HDV deck that I've used hundreds of times without running into this issue. The footage has two audio tracks -- of this I am absolutely 100% certain -- yet when batch importing clips, Final Cut captures only 1 track. This happens whether or not I have it set to capture a stereo pair or two mono tracks.
Again, there is no issue with the tape or the audio. It's there. I can sit and watch the preview meters in the FCP clip settings tab as I play it, and both channels register and display levels independently. Final Cut is capturing only one of them. For the life of me I can't figure out why.
I have trashed preferences. Restarted. Rebooted. Tried multiple Easy Setups. I still get only one track of audio when batch capturing. Amazingly, if I Capture Now from the exact same tape, I get two channels of audio. I have a project with hundreds of clips already logged - I need to batch capture them.
If anyone has insight into this bug, please help. Thanks!

  • Capturing 4 track 12-bit audio

    Hello,
I have DV tapes (not mini-DV) with 2 stereo tracks with 12-bit audio.
I want to digitalize my total DV video collection. Is this possible with Final Cut Pro ?

You'll have to make 2 passes on each tape. First pass capture video & audio 1&2. Second pass, use same in & out points, set deck/camera to output audio 3&4. Capture audio only. Place in timeline and line up.

  • Unable to perform multi audio tracks mixing with Audio Mixer

How do you get a simple multi track mix with the Premier Pro 1.5 Audio Mixer?
I got 2 audio clips, each sitting at the start of its own separate track (Audio 1 and Audio 2). I just want to mix them into the Master track.  Simple enough.
So I go to the Audio Mixer. Position the CTI at the start of the tracks and hit the red RECORD button. The red spot starts blinking. Then I hit the START/STOP button expecting the tracks to start mixing into the Master track. Instead, I get this error message
"PLAYER ERROR: You cannot record without enabling at least one track for recording."
I get the same problem if I try the mix onto a submix track.
What am I missing? I combed through the Premiere Pro User Guide and J. Rosenberg's Premiere Pro Studio Techniques but to no avail.
    Thanks for any help.
    JB.

Jacques, I havn't seen 1.5 for a while, so I need to stress that what I'm about to say is more of an educated guess linked to a rough memory.
Each audio track in the mixer has a small chip (tickbox in 1.5??) that you click in order to enable that track for recording. In CS3 it's a little microphone.
Having said that, I DON'T think that's going to give you what you want, as the intention of the recording functionality in PP is to record audio FROM AN EXTERNAL SOURCE (like a microphone) straight to an audio track, say, when doing a Voice Over for some video.
You can't "mix down" to the master, as the master is not a track per se. It's just a "final" level control. The master will always be the sum of the active tracks, and THAT'S what will be rendered in the final output.
You can still "live mix" your audio with the faders, it's just that those movements get recorded as keyframes on each of the tracks you modify (including, BTW, the Master).
The advantage to this workflow is that every fader move you make is infinitley editable... a small error when riding the faders can easily be fixed by dragging keyframes.

  • Unable to access other audio tracks

I have some non-iTunes videos which have alternate audio tracks.  Both Windows Media Player and VLC can see them easily.
