    Dear everyone,
We are trying to install the below KB in our windows server 2008 R2 SP1, however, it will show "The update is not applicable to your computer". There is no problems to install the other patches except this one. Do anyone have idea about it?

    Thanks,

    Hi,
According to this KB article, there are many exceptions where this KB is not applicable.
    Please perform the following steps:
Expand the “For all supported…” title in the File Information section in the KB article.
Find Crypt32.dll.mui files on your machine.
Then compare the file version, file size, data and time with the ones listed in the KB article.
If there is a match, then this KB doesn’t apply to your machine, which is by design.
    Hope this helps.

Please help As i am running out of time as i have to upgrade TFS for that first step is to install SQL server.

    Hello,
The following are a few things you can try:
Copy the media to the local disk drive, unzip it (in case you are installing from an ISO file, and run SQL Server setup from there.
Try to unregister and register the Windows Installer with the following two commands:
    msiexec /unregister
    msiexec /regserver
Try to use Process Monitor to log the detailed error produced when the installation of dw20sharedamd64.msi fails. You can download Process Monitor from the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645
Share with us the error captured by Process Monitor.
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to Install Windows Server 2012 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Hyper-V

My attempts to install are failing with a message "Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing....Error code: 0x800705070".
I am posting this on the Wondows 2012 Server forum but I have had exactly the same problem as described below with Windows 2008 R2 SP1.
As the title says this is on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 host with all current updates. I have downloaded the ISO file from a Technet subscription file twice, once by direct download and once by the Akamai downloader. The virtual disk is connected with
the default IDE driver. I mounted both installation images as ISOs, located on a file system on the host server.  I have tried installs by deleting the VM and recreating both the VM and a new virtual disk, re-using a previously created virtual disk, and
deleting the partitions in a previously created virtual disk, and executing the format command, and then attempting the install.
I have exactly the same problem trying to create a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 VM on the same host OS.  With those attempts, I downloaded the Technet subscription iso 4 or 5 times, and burned one to a DVD which I attached to the created VM.  Same
    error message.
The virtual machines and virtual disks I created and used were all located on an RAID5 array, on a builtin Intel RAID controller using Intel Rapid Storage Technology software version 11.2.0.1066.  The host Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 uses this file system
but the OS is installed on a dedicated drive (C).
I had previously created a guest VM with Windows Server 2008 R2 (several months worth of updates ago) without drama.
I have spent hours reading forums and blog articles on this.  A common response is to download the iso another time, and/or burn it to a DVD instead of mounting an iso image. Although I didn't do the later yet with 2012 Server, but I have done these
other steps attempting to install Windows 2008 Server SP1. The install process takes a while (not to mention doing multiple downloads). Given this seems to be a common recommended remedy, and indeed based on posts does seem to eliminate the problem is some
cases, why doesn't somebody change the Microsoft installer program so it does a thorough integrity check at the beginning of the install process?

    Jeff,
After the exercise of Windows 2012 Server successfully installing (as I described above) I also successfully installed Windows 2008 R2 on Hyper-V.  From my standpoint, I have eliminated the problem (which isn't the same as correcting the problem).
The answer to your specific question regarding Hyper-V support is that the motherboard I am using, an Asus P5Q, is not supported by Windows 2008 R2 because it doesn't use ECC memory, and the vendor doesn't say it supports Windows 2008. But I am sure you
know the motherboard vendors often don't test older motherboards with newer software versions.  It appears that in specifying ECC memory Microsoft is trying to protect users of Windows Server from hurting themselves, not saying the software won't run.
Having said that, my suspicion in the beginning was, and still is, that it was some variable(s) left in an unknown state in the Hyper-V environment, which was why after trying to install Windows 2008 R2 several times I tried Windows 2012 which resulted in
the same error, and then encountered the same error trying to install Windows 7 on the same Hyper-V installation. The specific Hyper-V Windows 2008 R2 server had run without any operating problems for months before I started having trouble, and although it
had been quite a while since I had created VMs, that process used to work.  The hardware didn't change. What changed was applying updates through Microsoft Update, and a few access control rights I changed, and at least I think, I set back to their original
    value.
So in short, no, my hardware isn't supported by Windows 2008 Server.  Two, your assertion that you are running the same software configuration that I am is very unlikely to be true. There are an extremely large number of things which are different between
your test system and mine, such as which Windows 2008 components are installed, what updates were installed and in what order they were installed, and what other third party software each of us is running, and between AD, and all the features, a large number
of potential differences in ACLs, options, etc. and I don't for a minute think this particular problem was caused by the underlying hardware.
I do appreciate your taking the time to try to help me, and I hope there is one thing you and I could agree on. Microsoft could pretty easily make it much easier to isolate problems. In this day and age reporting hex error codes (as opposed to doing the
table lookup in the error handling proc), and not providing more diagnostic information seems to me to be almost quaint.  And in this case Microsoft can dismiss my problems on the grounds it was all on unsupported hardware. Unfortunately, I think they
are missing an opportunity to make their software better, because in my opinion what I encountered there are a set of conditions which will cause installations to fail that aren't going to get corrected.

    0x8024402C WU_E_PT_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED
Winhttp SendRequest/ReceiveResponse failed with 0x2ee7 error. Either the proxy server or target server name cannot be resolved. Corresponding to ERROR_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED.
Stop/Restart service or reboot the machine if you see this error frequently.
Since the server is not connect to the internet, at least it should have an available upstream server. Did you configure it correctly? The error message indicate that the
name could not resolved, make sure you can resolve the name of the upstream server. Run nslookup check the result.
If it is the only WSUS, then give it internet connection and test.
    Hope this helps.

  • TMG 2010 publishing Exchange 2010 OWA cannot change password if user must change password at first logon is set

    Hi,
I have an odd issue whereby if I set "user must change password" on an AD account, the end user cannot logon, they're simply taken back to the OWA login page as if their password is incorrect.
    My setup is as follows:
outer TMG -- uses a listener for email.contoso.com and is configured for no authentication. This uses a publishing rule to publish the inner TMG server. This server is not a domain member.
inner TMG - uses a listener for email.contoso.com and is configured for NLTM\kerberos negotiation with forms authentication (Windows Active Directory). This server is a domain member and use a publishing rule to publish the internal CAS. Allow users to change
password is selected in the publishing rules.
Exchange 2010 SP1 - uses integrated windows and basic authentication. Has the appropriate registry key configured to allow users to change their AD password on first logon.
I've registered an snp for "http/email.contoso.com mailserver-dc1", all SSL certificates being used are valid and my configuration used to allow users to login and change their password with "user must change password on first login"
    set in AD.
If I launch a web browser on an internal server and point it to email.contoso.com I'm immediately presented with a generic Windows authentication request (similar to what's seen in ADFS) rather than the standard OWA page. No matter what I do, I cannot login
and change my password using the correct URL. However if I point my browser at
http://192.168.4.10/owa I'm prompted to login and I can change my password using the sam credentials.
The only recent changes made are:
    - Disabling SSL 3.0 and enabling TLS  (http://www.isaserver.org/articles-tutorials/configuration-security/improving-ssl-security-forefront-threat-management-gateway-tmg-2010-published-web-sites.html)
    - Replacing the TMG listener certificates so that they now use SHA2 rather than SHA2 (certificates are trusted on each TMG server)
Looking on the outer TMG and the DC logs I can see schannel errors which I believe are related to the problem. TMG monitoring also shows "Failed connection attempt: 1907 The user'spassword must be changed before logging on for the first time"
I've checked that my inner TMG and DC are using the same certificate for server authentication and gone through this guide:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/keithab/archive/2012/02/29/setting-up-and-troubleshooting-ldaps-authentication-in-forefront-tmg-2010.aspx
If I try to use ldp.exe on the inner TMG, I get the error in the pic below
    Thanks

  • Unable to print to local Printer over RDP - Windows Server 2008

    Hi,
    Windows 2008 Foundation R2.
Started to have issues with printing to a Local printer over RDP.
The problems started on Friday 11th April. The only possible issue I can identify is that around that time LogMeIn was updated on the server, including the LMIPrinter DLL's.  I have contacted Logmein for instructions on how to uninstall LMI completely
and followed these but am still experiencing the problem.
When attempting a Test Page print the confirmation that the Test Print has been sent to is displayed and the print appears then disappears in the Print queue but nothing appears on the Local PC print queue or event logs.
    On the server the Event Log shows the following error;
The document Test Page, owned by admin, failed to print on printer Canon MG7100 series Printer (redirected 2/copy 1). Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.
Data type: RAW. Size of the spool file in bytes: 142691. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: \\ONESTAGE-TS01. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 2147500037. Unspecified
    error
I have searched for possible solutions to RDP printing problems and where relevant implemented them but no change.
I have access to a second customer who uses RDP and am able to log onto that and print to my local printer so am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the local printer or settings.  On the Server with the problem the problem affects all RDP users
and all printers (including Adobe PDF printer and MS XPS printer).  All printers are defaulting to the EasyPrint Drivers.
Grasping at straws I think the LMI update has banjaxed something with the RDP remote printing and an LMI uninstall hasn't fixed it.  Is there a way to reinstall the RDP Printing?  Would uninstalling & reinstalling .NET have that effect?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
What’s your client OS and RDP version in your environment?
First of all suggest you to run “sfc /scanow” with this link to check whether which file causing the issue. Check the RDP version on the RDP client computer as well as the .NET framework version with respect to the operating system used (as explained above).
Also verify that the RD Session Host / Terminal Server role is installed if the host computer is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008.
The setting “Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first” must be set to “Enabled” for Easy Print redirection, and it has to be “Disabled” for Legacy Print. For “Not configured”, Easy Print is chosen by default.
Check The Remote Desktop Configuration Tool (tsconfig.msc) settings to ensure that the “Windows Printer” option is not disabled (it is not disabled by default).
Make sure that the “Printers” check box in the client (mstsc.exe) window on the “Local Resources” tab is checked. The corresponding setting in the associated RDP file is “redirectprinters:i:1”.

Please help us on the error while installing jrun4, updater 7 on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit operating system

    Hi Charlie,
64 bit it supported on XI R2 but Windows Server 2008 is not . Have a look at this Supported Platforms document:

  • Programmatic webdav/unc access requires user logon to windows server 2008 R2

I have an automated process (a .net windows service) that connects to sharepoint document library via a UNC (\\mysharepointsite\doclib).  When the machine is rebooted,
accessing this folder results in a  System.IO.IOException: The network name cannot be found exception.
However, if we log into the windows server 2008 r2 machine under the account that the service is running on, it starts working, and continues to work even when we log out.  It continues to work until we reboot the computer.
I've already run into and solved other user-centric fixes for 2008.  For example, the "Desktop Experience" feature is required to browse the path and all, and unchecking "automatically detect settings" significantly speeds up browsing of these paths.
However, I'm not sure what user logon initializes that would be fixing this problem.

I can further simplify this.  The following command will fail initially:
    dir \\myspserver\mypath
However, running the same command after browsing to the same path in windows explorer succeeds.  At this point I've eliminated the programming as an issue so i will try to post a similar question on technet.  However, please let me know if anybody
    has any further info.

  • Unable to Change Screen Resolution in Remote Session - Windows Server 2012 R2

Does anybody know of a way to allow Remote Desktop users to adjust their own screen resolution in a remote session under Windows Server 2012 R2? We are struggling with this and can't seem to find a solution.
When users login to their RDP session and try to adjust their screen resolution this message is displayed in Control Panel:
"The display settings can't be changed from a remote session."
We don't want to use the "make text and other items larger or smaller" scaling feature, as this produces undesirable results with some of our applications.  We also don't want to have to support multiple types of RDP clients or RDP shortcut
    files.
We have looked at other posts but can't find an answer that applies to Windows Server 2012 R2.  The closest thing we could find is KB2726399, but it only applies to Server 2008.
Does anybody have a solution for Server 2012?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Currently you cannot change the resolution from within the session.  This is normal and expected behavior.
Unfortunately this means you need to set the desired resolution before connecting by using custom .rdp files, manually within the Remote Desktop Client, custom web launch page, custom windows launch program, etc.
