Unable to change track info

I am using Itunes on a Windows XP SP2 computer. When I attempt to change specific info on tracks in my library (Right Click>Get Info) some of the tracks have all catagories grayed out and I can't edit them. Why is this and how do I change it?
Thanks

I like WMC too, but the same thing with WMP, it just completely messes everything up. I know I can turn the organise feature off, but I just don't want to risk it again. Last time it messed up about 10% of my library and that was out of about 10,000 songs.

  • Unable to change tracks on my stereo after upgrading to iOS 6

After upgrading to iOS 6 yesterday I've noticed a problem playing my music through Bluetooth on my Alpine car stereo.  It still plays but I am unable to change tracks with the stereo, I have to manually do it on my iPhone.  This is a problem, any ideas?

I spoke to a rep at Alpine today.  They are aware that there are major issues with the release of iOS 6 and ALL their products.  The said they will have to do a firmware update and he had no idea when that would be available.
Not good as I bought a new unit yesterday !  It workd great driving home and this morning no iPhone interface would function properly.  I updated my OS last night.  And I cannot go back to OS 5 I am told by Apple people.
I love Apple products but I must say I do not like their "we know best" attitude when it comes to deciding what OS I should run on my iPhone.  I would much rather have OS 5 and let my iPhone work with my stereo.
Hopefully this firmware update will not take too long but I know there is no way it will be right away.  The Alpine rep said his phone started ringing off the hook at 8 am from Alpine techs all over the country !
So clearly this was news to them.

  • Unable to edit track info in iTunes on a Mac Air

    Hello,
I recently switched from a windows PC to a Mac Air. All my music was organizaed on an external hard drive. I have now imported the music in to my iTunes on my Mac Air. I am unable to edit individual track info when I use "Get Info". I tried to look up for permissions on the particular folder and found that they are all set as "Read Only".
Any help in this matter is appreciated.

Go to your Music (media)  folder. The one that holds the actual files.
Click it and press Cmd+I or right click and select "Get Info"
In the Info pane, click the lock to change permissions:
You'll need to tnter your password to make any chnages.
Set ALL permissions to Read & Write
Click the Gear and select "Apply to enclosed items..."
Then click "OK" when asked if you're sure.
Let it apply to everything and THEN try editing the track oinfo.

  • Genius is evil - madly changing track info in the background

I think I've figured out why iTunes, starting in version 8, has been behaving strangely. It's Genius.
I started out noticing that when double-clicked a song in the list view to play that it would jump to the end of that album's list. This drove me nuts. If I double-clicked each song, it would do this for each and then i could play the album how I wanted. I thought maybe it was tinkering with the track number info but couldn't find anything different.
Then I started playing songs that I didn't have album, album artist, or composer information for and saw that once I played it, iTunes immediately updated to show me this information filled in. Now I was mad, b/c in a lot of instances the album information was some screwy greatest hits or tribute album. It finally dawned on me when I played a song and saw a foreign language soundtrack show up in the album field. Genius was filling in my missing information with information from how other users have classified that track. Yikes!
So I've disabled Genius, but the damage is done as soon as Genius does that analysis of your library.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm going to wipe my library and reimport everything, hoping that iTunes hasn't written the changes to the tag but only in the library. I wish Genius behaved more intelligently...
Can someone confirm that Genius is changing/adding track info where it perceives mine is missing or incorrect?

I had the same problem! I realized it today and googled my problem. I guess Zune is just really dumb at figuring out song information. I noticed it today when I had 42 new Rihanna tracks in my library. Apparently Zune took several songs that had nothing from Track 1 (etc), Unknown Artist and Album as its song information and changed it to some random album by Rihanna and did the tags completely excluding the Tracks. I have NO idea how it came to that conclusion as the songs were actually Soca music from Trinidad! FAR from Rihanna!!
Other than that, sadly, I like Zune software better than iTunes on my Vista machine. The visualizer is the part that gets me. It's great for just playing music and I have something better to look at than just some seizer causing fullscreen lines. I have dual monitors and the full screen visualizer acts as if its a background so its sexii

  • Why would iTunes automatically change track info?

I played a track in my iTunes library (purchased directly from band, not iTunes) which I have played many times over the last two years.  This time, however, the track suddenly disappeared from my sort view immediately after I clicked on it and as it was playing.  When I located it, I saw that the album name had changed from the album that I had purchased to a compilation album that the track had appeared on years ago (thus the resorting), and other track info had been altered as well.  This also happened for another track that I clicked on from the same album.  All other tracks on the album were unaffected when I played them.  How is it possible for iTunes to alter track info, particularly for music I have not purchased from iTunes?

I suspect iTunes is revealing "corrections" made by Windows Media Player. If so the damage is done and you'll probably find other tracks have been affected over time.

  • Making iTunes automatically change track info of playlists

    Hello all,
I'd like to know if there is a way to automatically change song info of all the tracks in a specific playlist.
More specifically, I'd like to know how to make itunes automatically change the Grouping of songs as I add or remove them from any given playlist.
Ultimately, what I'd like to be able to do is see which songs are set to sync with my iPhone and which aren't when I'm looking through my entire music library.
Maybe there's a solution using Automator or Applescripts. I tried using smart playlists, but those seem to only be able to populate a playlist based on track info, which is the opposite of what I want to do.
Thank you all in advance for your help,
    Scott

  • Unable to edit track info

I can't edit any track info on my songs (title, artist, etc), when i pull up the info screen the fields are grayed out so that I can't change them and on the main page I can't get the cursor to show up. I recently "consolidated" my library. Is this the problem? Can I undo that? Help?

This gets asked several times per week. It's your OS permissions on the external HD or folder where the songs are stored.
In Win Explorer, right-click > Properties, go to the security tab and make sure your windows userID has full control & ownership over that music folder and all child/subfolders.
Some folks have even run into problems with windows UAC and had to temporarily turn that off to make changes.
    Remember:
You need to restart itunes so it will read the new permission settings.

  • Changing track info.

I recently purchased a macbook air. All my music files and mp3s are stored on my partners cloud drive (WD Mycloud if that helps) I have tried changing my permissions, but they are all read/write. my little padlocks are all unlocked and as far as I can tell none of my music files are protected.
So WHY can I not change any of my track infos that state the whole album/artist/track as the track name and everything else as unknown and i cannot change this!
Pulling my hair out. Please HELP!!!

Is the drive used with a Windows computer?  If so that could be the problem.  Macs cannot write to NTFS drives without special utilities.

  • Updating/changing track info

I ripped a couple gb's of music from my 160gb ipod classic and imported them into itunes but for some reason the artist info was out of whack.  I tried changing the artist name info and it shows correctly in the overall view of my itunes library, but the artist column on the left lists the artist name 5 times and they aren't even grouped together placing 4 of them out of alphabetical order.  if you click on each one it shows you the exact same tracks and i confirmed in finder that there aren't multiple copies in my library's music folder.  the most annoying part is that the old messed up artist names that i changed are the ones still showing on my iphone.  any idea on how to fix this?
i tried turning itunes match off in my iphone, swtiching off show all songs and turning it back on, resetting my iphone and doing both of those again and it hasn't worked.

  • Using Multiple iPods on 1 Computer and Changing Track Info on Files

Hi - I recently had to get a new computer, so I have a Windows 7 machine. I use 2 iPods and and iPhone. I have set up separate user accounts in Windows 7 to separate music files, video files, and info for iPhone. I'm having some problems, first, with multiple accounts. When using an account in an other than administrator account, the administrator account keeps getting errors that iTunes can't be opened. So while in another account, I get error notices in the administrator account. Second, a number of CDs that I copy into iTunes come over as "Compilations." I can't make changes to the categories so the CDs appear with the artists, even though I've actually gone into the files through Windows Explorer to change them from read only. Any suggestions?

    Just plug them in.

  • Change track info in iTune and affect the ones in iPod Touch? (bug?)

When I change my album names in iTune (or any other info), they aren't affected in my iPod Touch (for example in my iPod I have multiple folders for the same album, which I desperately try to change), what to do?

No answers after a whole day? Are employees around in these forum? Wondering, is it better I call at the 1-800 number to get support?

  • Unable to change payment info

I need to change my credit card details.  I understand how I am supposed to do this, but when I try to click on the Save button after inputting the new details on the Update Payment Info screen, the button does not respond.  Only the "Cancel" button responds (and, of course, the information that I have input is lost.
Looking elsewhere on the forum, this appears to be a common problem.  Can an Adobe representative respond to this?  (The only phone number that I can find for Support is a US number.  I am in the UK, and do not want to spend an indefinite period of time on an international call ! )

Thank you for the response.  However, I had already run through the troubleshooting process.
I have now resolved the issue, and in case it is of benefit to other users who encounter the problem, I will describe the bizarre steps that worked:
When I input the credit card as a continuous string of 16 digits, the "Save" button remained inactive, but there was no warning that there was a problem with how I was inputting the card number.
I then inserted dashes to separate the 16-digit credit card number into four 4-digit groups (XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX).  This caused the "Save" button to become active, but when I left-clicked it, an error message stated that the card was not of the correct "type".
I then removed the dashes from the number (thus reinstating the way in which I had first input the number).  The "Save" button remained active, but this time, when I left-clicked it, the card number was accepted.
I suspect that many people will think that this cannot have happened - that I made a mistake keying in my credit card number - but this is definitely not the case.  I had tried many times to input the details, using 3 different browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera) with 2 different operating systems (Windows XP and Windows 7).  The result was the same every time.
It remains to be seen whether Adobe will recognise, and do something about, this Kafkaesque programming bug.

  • Why can't I change song info for a song I have downloaded from i-tunes in i-tunes 11?

I bought it, it should be mine to change the name of it if I please. I like to keep single songs together in album made up of my creation and apple have taken that away from me.

I have the same problem. When I click "Get info", everything is grayed out and I'm unable to change track names, artist names, album names, or anything at all. I have iTunes Match if that matters.
    What's going on?
