Unable to communicate with printer error with HP Envy 4500

Hi I am having trouble printing with my Envy 4500 printer. My computer system is Windows 8.1. I installed the driver per instruction from the website and use the usb cable to connect the printer. However when I tried to print a pdf document it says "Unable to communicate with printer" and I can't get the test page to print either. Please help! Thanks in advance!

Hi @Casey_Z , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're having issues printing.  I would like to help!
I'd recommend removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I'd then suggest downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Unable to Communicate With Printer error

I have an HP Office Pro  8600 Plus that is connected wirelessly.  After I start the computer, I can print fine for a day, but when I try to print the next day, I get the error message 'Unable to Communicate With Printer'.  I am running Windows XP 32 bit on a Dell computer.  I have changed the settings on the network card to not power down and the computer to not shut off the disks to try to fix the problem, but the problem is still here.  If I reboot, I can print again.
    I run Norton antivirus.
I have another HP printer connected by a network cable and that printer works fine.  I have a Canon MG printer connected wirelessly that experiences the same issue of unable to communicate.
I can ping both wireless devices (192.168.1.74 and 192.168.1.73) even though I cannot print to them.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Try setting the printer to a static IP like 192.168.1.10.  Change your routers wireless channel to a fixed channel like 1,6 or 11 not auto.  Now try.

  • 8600 - unable to communicate with printer error

I bought a 8600 about 6 months ago.  The printer worked fine for about a month... then my XP and now my new WIN7 machine keeps getting a connection error (was hopinp the move from XP to WIN7 would resolve).  My windows 8 Surface has no problem.   The issue will go away very temporarily if I reboot (here is the irony - HP's print doctor app can see my printer - and the "fix" is to reboot - sorry HP, rebooting every time I need to print is no an acceptible fix).
Printer is on.  Router is fine (note that the WIN8 machine can print while the WIN7 machine is providing an error).   If I update the IP address as noted below (note the IP address has not changed), there is no possitive effect on the issue, but the connection is confirmed durring this process - but still get the error when I try to print.
    Full text of error message:
! Unable to communicate with Printer
The print job could not be completed becuase the printer is unavailable or not connected.  Check your cable or wireless connection, and make sure the printer is powered on and ready.
If you installed this printer by IP address, then you might need to update the IP address.  Us the update IP address item in the Start menu entry for this printer....

After tons of searching, misguided efforts from HP "experts" trying to point at the router - I think I found the solution in bvwjm's post.
    his/her comment:::
I changed the port address in Printer Properties that Windows was using to find the printer, from the HP network rediscovery port monitor, to my assigned static IP address with port type "Standard TCP/IP Port".
I am finally able to print - no reboot!  I will cycle a few times and see how it does for a week, but allowing "printer pooling" and adding the port - matching my IP address on the printer seems to have solidified things.
Re affirms my posts on other errors like this - it is not a router issue as the HP experts point the finger away from HP

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600: "Unable to Communicate with Printer" error message

I receive the error message "Unable to Communicate with Printer" regularly when I print. Sometimes it will print 3 or 4 times just fine before I get this message. Sometimes it happens my first try at printing. I then have to reboot my computer to get it to work again. My OS is Windows 7 and my printer is an HP Officejet Pro 8600. My printer is wired to my computer. I have tried re-installing the printer software but this did not help. I've had this printer for only four months. Started happening after the second month. Any suggestions?

I finally solved it.  Reflecting back on previous message boards I decided to try one last time.  Some posters have found the problem in the Antivirus, Firewall protections.  (By the way, I had even upgraded my router with no luck).I have Norton AntiVirus provided by the cable company.1. I turned off everything in the firewall.  Although this left me vulnerable for a few mintues, I needed a fast test.2. It worked!  I was able to print something immediately.3. I went back into the firewall, turned everything back on but turned off an individual switch within the firewall that said to "share the printer. "4. After turning it off, I was able to print and still have the most important parts of the firewall. This ultimately met my needs.Perhaps HP could:1. Do a better job at beta testing prior to release, including various brands of firewalls.  Is there even a beta test process?2. Provide a better description of the error since all indicators within the drivers say the printer is connected.  There should be a message indicating that it's connected but unable to print due to firewall protections.

Hello K_D123, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are having wireless issues.  I would like to try and help.
I would recommend powering off your computer and printer.  Once they are both off, I would unplug the power from the back of your wireless router, wait 60 seconds and plug it back in.  After the router has begun broadcasting, power on the printer and computer.
I would also recommend following the steps in this document on Wireless printing center Troubleshooting Issues.

  • UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH PRINTER error message

When I try and print a document, I keep getting this error message on my screen:  UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH PRINTER.  And the printer will not print.  So, I open the ink cartridge door and then close it, and then the printer prints!   How do I fix my printer or its settings so I do not have to keep doing this in order for the printer to print normally? Also, the printer is connected with a USB cable.

  • HP 2510 "Unable to communicate with Printer" error.

    Greetings,
I've recently bought a HP 2510 Deskjet All-in-one. I am running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
When I attempt to print any documents, the printer comes up with the following error:
    http://i.imgur.com/uwK8MNq.png
On Attempting to use Print and Scan Doctor tool, I find a report of a driver conflict:
    http://i.imgur.com/B9NCkTQ.png
So, after following the instructions, I've uninstalled and reinstalled as directed (taking very special care to do exactly as stated in the installation instructions). The errors still occur.
I've attempted to remove the printers from the device manager, uninstalled the drivers of the various associated devices on there, uninstalled the Full Feature software using Add/Remove....then tried reinstalling again. I've even tried just foregoing the CD and website installations (yes, I did try both) and let Windows automatically install drivers. Still the same original two errors.
This has sucked up my entire Sunday. Does anyone have any insight?
    This question was solved.

    Hello GdaTerry,
Thank you for your response, I am sorry to hear the issue persists and you are unable to install the printer driver on another computer as well. The USB connection might be the issue as you mentioned and trying a different USB cable would be a good idea.
As you posted above, I understand you have been downloading the Full Feature Driver which is also correct. I am going to post you a link to the correct driver for Win 7/64 below so you can compare to ensure this is the driver you are using.
I am also curious to know how the printer functions as a stand-alone machine. Will it copy successfully? Have you seen any other errors on the printer or computer screen?
I recommend trying a couple of copies, and if they are successful, the printer hardware tests to be alright.
As well, try a different USB cable and run the installation again.
If you are still having the same issue, at that point, I recommend calling HP's Technical Support. If you are within your first year of purchase, you will have warranty on the printer. If you are within North America, call toll-free at 1-800-474-6836 or for all other locations, click here.

  • How can I fix this printer error with Samsung SCX-4300 and SCX-4521f on Windows Server 2008 R2?

I have two printers installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit):
    1. Samsung SCX-4521f
    2. Samsung SCX-4300
There are two computers (Windows 7 Professional, 32-Bit) connected to this server that utilise these shared printers.
The drivers installed are as follows:
    SCX-4x21_Win7_Print.exe (Win 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/Win 7    3.04.96:03    Print Driver    11 Dec, 2009    12.37    MULTI LANGUAGE)
    SCX-4300_Print.exe (Win 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/Win 7(32,64bit) 3.04.95:07 Print Driver Jan 19, 2011 53.07 MULTI LANGUAGE)
After printing documents for some time (within a 24 period) the printers no longer respond to print requests.
On the server opening "Control Panel\Hardware\Devices and Printers" shows the two printers with yellow exclamation marks.
The "SCX-4x21" printer shows the "Status" as "Needs troubleshooting" and "Printer: Error".
The "SCX-4300" printer shows the "Status" as "Needs troubleshooting".
Neither will print a test page.
Searching for new drivers automatically returns saying: "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
The error persists and nothing will print.
When double-clicking on the "SCX-4x21" printer (or going to "Control Panel\Hardware\Devices and Printers\Samsung SCX-4x21 Series") you see the following:
"Printer: Error" and "N document(s) in queue".
Clicking on either of these brings up the print queue and shows a document with the status of "Error - Printing".
As each job with an error is cancelled the next one attempts to print and also displays an error like the last.
Once all the jobs are cleared the printer information says "Printer: Ready".
Sending a "Print Test Page" sends the printer into an error state saying "Printer: Error".
With the "SCX-4300", sending a "Print Test Page" displays a bubble saying: "Toner Empty: Replace Toner".
However, I can't see any specific error messages.
How do I find out what exactly "Needs troubleshooting"?
    Please can anyone advise further?

The printer (SCX-4300) has stopped again.
Since it has been stopped I have done your recommendations:
Unticked the "Enable bidirectional support" option under the "Ports" tab in the printer properties.
Set the "Interactive Services Detection" to Automatic and started it.
Unfortunately the printer did not start printing, the print jobs did not restart or delete.
I decided to check the Operational logs that we enabled.
The first job I see goes like this:
    Information: Rendering job 41.
Error: The print spooler failed to delete the file C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\00041.SHD, error code 0x2. See the event user data for context information.
Information: The print job 41 was sent through the print processor SSE1MPC on printer Samsung SCX-4300 Series, driver Samsung SCX-4300 Series, in the isolation mode 1 (0 - loaded in the spooler, 1 - loaded in shared sandbox, 2 - loaded in isolated
sandbox). Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 0x0.
    Information:Printing job 41.
    Information:Spooling job 41.
    This job actually printed.
Other jobs printed fine with no error.
There are no other errors in the "Operational" log other than the "print spooler failed to delete" error.
Any ideas what to try now?
Update: Unticking the "Enable bidirectional support", clearing the print queue and then trying again seems to have fixed the problem for now.

  • Printing Error with Canon MF6500

I'm trying to print with my Canon MF6500 but I keep getting a printer error saying that there is an error in the connection. The strange thing is that it was working fine a couple days ago. Here are a few things:
    Things I've Done:
-printed using another macbook with the same USB cord (worked)
-uninstalled and reinstalled ALL printers (did not work)
-downloaded the driver from the canon website (did not work)
    -used multiple USB cords
Things that might have caused the problem:
-Used a Canon Pixma iP1800 to print
-Used a HP photosmart C1300 to scan and print
another thing to note is that when I install the printer it doesn't automatically detect the software anymore, I have to select the proper printer driver (Canon MF6500 UFR II)

    anguonly wrote:
Maybe the process "UFR II BackGrounder" is the problem but I don't want to shut out something important
The Backgrounder service provides communication between the UFR2 driver and the Mac. If this service fails to run and connect to the printer then it will cause errors, such as the one you are having. You could look at stopping this service, it will restart by itself, or restarting the Mac will do the same.
    With all that you have done so far I suggest you look at removing the UFR2 driver and associated files and then install v2.21 again. First remove the existing MF6500 printer queue in Print & Fax. Then trash the following files;
    System Volume/Library/Printers/Canon/UFR2
    System Volume/Library/LaunchAgents/jp.co.canon.UFR2.BG.plist
    System Volume/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/CNTD**Z*2.ppd.gz
Where * indicates a character string that represents the printer model, and 2 indicates a character string that represents the corresponding language.
Then restart the Mac and install the v2.21 UFR2 driver.

  • Not Enough Memory or Something Wrong with Printer error

My Epson 820 printer works fine and I can print a nozzel check pattern from the printer utility software. However, I can't print from any of my software. I keep getting the error "Something Wrong with Printer" or from some software I get "Not Enough Memory".
I'm not having any other problems and can do complex graphics in Photoshop without any memory issues. I've checked my printer setup and it clearly sees my printer. My Epson 820 also shows up in the Printing Options dialog box.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks for these suggestions. I believe it's my computer. I've started having additional problems. I opened a .pdf in Acrobat Reader and tried to print. After that I couldn't shut down my computer. Alarmed, I connected my firewire backup disk and backed up my hard drive. Then when I tried to eject the external drive, it didn't allow me to disconnect. It reappeared with the disk icon and a second folder labeled as the external drive but showing the drive was empty. I shut down and rebooted; all my files are in tact on the external drive but there's definitely a computer issue here.
Any suggestions how I should proceed?

  • "unable to find root device" error with linux-lts

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem with booting linux-lts after a recent upgrade (3.14.39-1 -> 3.14.43-2). In particular, I get an "unable to find root device" error.
I have look at other threads for potential solutions; I have tried a) re-installing linux-lts, b) adding 'block' before 'autodetect' in mkinitcpio.conf before the re-installation, and c) changing /dev/sdb4 (my root partition) in syslinux.cfg to UUID and PARTUUID. I still get the same error.
In the emergency shell, running 'blkid' does not show the root partition in the output.
If I boot from the latest kernel (4.0.4-2), it all boots fine.
Does anybody have any ideas on anything I could try to get linux-lts to boot? I'd prefer to stay with the lts kernel if possible.

KangarooLemonade wrote:I ran through the beginner's guide to installing Arch on the wiki and installed Arch onto an external USB hard drive.
Yeah? And did you see this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … nvironment ?
Here you need to set the right hooks if the root is on a USB drive, if you use RAID, LVM, or if /usr is on a separate partition.
No, of course you missed it...
Boot your install using the Fallback entry. If you do not have a Fallback entry, press Tab (for Syslinux) or "e" (for GRUB) and rename it initramfs-linux-fallback.img. After it boots, open up a terminal and run:
    # nano /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
<add "usb" to the HOOKS line>
    # mkinitcpio -p linux
    # reboot
And don't forget to mark it as solved.

  • Printer error with InDesign CS4

I have the Adobe Master Collection installed on Windows 7 64bit (Pruchased through MS Volume License).  Before installing windows 7, the system had Windows Vista Business 64-bit installed and had the same problem, so it is not OS related.  Connected directly to the computer via USB cable is an HP Design Jet 130.  All programs are able to print to it without any problems including Photoshop (64bit), Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator (32bit), Excel, Word, etc.  However, when trying to print a document from InDesign, I get the following error:
print driver host for 32bit applications has stopped working
After click ok, the printer selection box comes up, with the post script printer selected.  When you go and try and change the printer to ANY other printer including the DJ130, I get the following error:
Printer selection failed.  Restoring the previous selection.
I am still able to print documents from InDesign by saving them as a PDF and then opening them and printing them with Adobe Acrobat Pro, however, I should not have to do this, and this can become very time consuming.  The printer is also shared on the network with two other computers and they have no problem printing to it from InDesign.  Before I installed Windows 7, I completely un-installed the Master Collection.  After Win7 was installed, I re-installed the Master Collection, and I was able to print perfectly from Adobe InDesign.  It seems that one of the updates breaks it's printing capabilities with this printer, or at least on this system.
Has anyone else experienced this issue, or are there any other things that I can try to resolve this?  I have 8GB of RAM in the system and don't really see switching to a 32 bit OS to be an option as I would loose the ability to use 1/2 of my memory.

I am having the exact same problem. I have Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and Design Premium CS 5.5.  InDesign is the ONLY program that will not print to any printer. I get the "Printer selection failed." error every time I select any printer, even the Adobe PDF one. I have a Brother printer, an HP Plotter, and even an Oce copier/printer.  InDesign gives the error no matter what printer is selected form its own list.  Photoshop and Acrobat do not give me any issues, nor does any of the MS Office programs nor Autodesk softwares.  It's only InDesign that fails.  Reparing doesn't do anything and reinstalling every printer driver is pointless because it's only InDesign that produces the error.
Does anyone know what to do to fix this?
