Unable to compress to mp4 or quicktime with compressor 2

After I upgraded from compressor 1.2 to compressor 2.0.1 I found out that the mpeg2 quality was not as good as that of compressor 1.2, however the quality of mpeg4 using a compressor 1.2 preset was as good as that of compressor 1.2. Trying to improve mpeg2 quality I deleted all the compressor 1.2 presets as recommended by Apple. Now the mpeg2 quality is very good. However when I try mpeg4 or quicktime, compression always fails with the following message: "Failed: 3x crash service down".
The resulting files cannot be opened with quicktime (as expected) with the error (-2048)
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I have tried everything I could find in this forum but nothing has worked. Reinstalling compressor 1.2 will not work either.
Thanks

I'd suggest that you look in your console and system logs to see if there are any error messages or warnings that might hint at what could be going wrong. You can view these logs by going to the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac" and then "More Info..." This will bring up the System Profiler and then under the left-hand column ("Contents") go down to "Software" and select "Logs."
You will likely find a lot of messages in both of these logs, even some warnings that have nothing to do with your particular problem. Just scan through the information looking for anything that seems related to Compressor, FCP, Qmaster, QuickTime, or any warning about a missing or incompatible component that could be related to the above.

  • How to compress a 120 VDV video with compressor?

hello, I would like to know how to compress a video more than 2hours on a DVD of 8.5G

    Just to add:
Essentially the same steps that I gave for FCP>Share would be followed in Compressor, except you would select the job in the Batch window and then go to the jobs action tab. (An advantage of using Compressor is that you could insert chapter markers.)

I have iPhone 4 iPod touch 4 and iPad2 all of them are updated to iOS 5.1.1
    them I found this bug!
open video and play a MP4/M4V moive with single track subtitle.
there is no way you can display the subtitle track.
but you can display the subtitle on iTunes and Apple TV (5.0.1)
If you insert another subtitle track into the MP4 file. them it's OK on all device!
by the way I don't have this problem on 5.0.1
I hope there is a develeper who can submit this bug to Apple!

I had this on my iPod touch. I don't know whether the previous reply worked, but I fixed it by locking my iPod, turning on flight mode (control center) unlocking it again, and the was one more "unable to download item" box and I clicked done and that was it. Turned wifi back on and no problem

  • Problems rendering HD clips with MP2, and Quicktime with DVC50 compression.

I am using After Effects CS3 on Mac 10.5.8
Ok, so we got this fancy new Grass Vally clip player that takes a very small number of formats. I am trying to render HD clips that are between 10 and 14 seconds long with audio embedded.
One of the formats suggested is MP2.  When I try rendering an MP2 file the file extension comes out as .m2v
Also, the audio file is rendered as a separate .wav file.  The video looks fine and is of a very small file size, but I can't play it back with Quicktime Pro. I'm not sure if the clip player will play an m2v file but I know that the audio has to be embedded in the same clip. I've looked through all of the audio settings and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.
One of the other formats it will take is Quicktime with DVCPRO50 codec.  I was able to render out some HD (1920 x 1080) files but the resolution looks like it is only about half what it should be. I've been through all of the settings that I can think of and can't see what is causing it.
I am pretty much at the end of my rope. I even called Grass Valley support and told them my problems. I just assumed that most of their customers would be creating animations with After Effects. The tech support guy wasn't even familiar with After Effects so I come to you guys for support.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Thanks, I will try the MPEG Streamclip.
I don't mean to imply that the tech support guy hadn't heard of After Effects but he had no real experience with it. I'm certain that this isn't the first time an After Effects user has called Grass Valley with this issue. I think their standard issue answer is "It's not our problem, call Adobe."  I've worked at four different television stations and at each one we have used AE to render movies to our clip player. I have no doubt that it's the industry standard for this kind of work so it kind of baffles me that Grass Valley has no idea how to make it work with their product.
When the Grass Valley installer came the first question I asked him was "What kind of file formats does it take?" He said he didn't know and to just start trying different things to see if they work. I pretty much told him that I didn't have time for trial and error and that it should be on page one of the manual. We eventually found the spec sheet buried somewhere in the appendix. When I called GV tech support he just rerferred me back to that sheet. Basically he's getting paid to read the manual to me but doesn't have any idea about how it actually applies to their product.

unable to install itunes for new computer with windows 8
states this app unable to run on this PC

    Hello jgrn76,
It sounds like you are getting an error stating that the iTunes installer cannot be run on your computer. I would try downloading the 64 bit version of iTunes from here:
    iTunes 11.1.3 for Windows (64-bit)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1615
If issues persist when trying to install it, I would try running through the steps in the article named:

  • Unable to compress a request.

    Hi experts,
I am unable compress a request by manually and by scheduling in the process chain also it is not compressing.
when i open the collapse tab it saying No valid request exists for compressing
then i entered manually with request id. job finishing without compression and i found in the job log(SM37)
*No requests needing to be aggregated have been found in InfoCube
*Compression not necessary; no requests found for compressing
    *Job finished
    in 10 seconds.
Process chain is also completed successfully without compression.
i don't know y it is not compressing the requests ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    <BMP>

    Hi,
Note: Is "Tick" mark there against your request in requests tab?
If you are able to see your request in requests tab as not compressed, then delete this request and reconstruct it back from the Reconstruction tab. But please check in reconstruction tab to make sure the same request is available.
After the above activity, you can try to compress this request.
    Hope you understand.......

  • Will Quicktime Pro convert/compress .dv files to Quicktime?

I have .dv movies that are taking up so much space on my hard-drive. I purchased Quicktime Pro to compress those files so they will take up less space. I don't see in the tutorial how to do this. Could someone please point me in the right direction so I can see how to do this? Thanks!

Will Quicktime Pro convert/compress .dv files to Quicktime?
    Of course.
I don't see in the tutorial how to do this. Could someone please point me in the right direction so I can see how to do this?
This is impossible to do until you define what you mean by "QuickTime."
Basically, a "QuickTime" (MOV) file is any form of dat that can be placed in an MOV file container -- not a compression format in and of itself. Therefore, your first step is to determine what you really want to do here. For instance, a DV (.dv) stream file normally consists of an audio DV compressed track along with a video DV compressed track. DV(25) files normally contain audio and video tracks having a data rate on the order of 28.5 Mbps each (or about a 57 Mbps total average data rate). As you indicated, these do make for rather large files. You could, of course, reduce the total data rate by nearly half if you merge the original video track with AIFF (linear PCM) converted audio (or even smaller if you use an AAC audio track). The catch here is that QT Pro does not have a DV "pass thorough" video option which allows you to simply convert the audio while retaining the original DV video. So unless you are willing to manually convert the audio track and then manually replace the original Audio track with your converted audio, you would normally have to convert both audio and video to another compression format.
In this latter case, you could select any valid codec supported by QT as augmented by installed components. Typical possibilities would be AIC/AIFF, unlimited H.264/AAC, Motion-JPEG/AIFF Photo-JPEG/AIFF, supported MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC profiles with limited data rates. These compression options are all compatible with iMovie '08 editing and represent a full range of possible data rates (which in turn determine your final file size). For instance, an AIC/AIFF file would normally end up with a total data rate on the order of 20-22 Mbps with an unlimited H.264/AAC about 16-18 Mbps, M-JPEG 10 Mbps, Photo-JPEG 8-9 Mbps, and MPEG4/AAC or H.264 as low as you can stand the loss in quality and still retain a video track.
These various compression formats basically represent a compromise between file size and quality with the quoted data rates being typical for SD content with an "average" quality setting. While actual data rates are always dependent on the actual file converted, the stated averages should provide some idea as to what you could expect in comparison to your original source file -- i.e., the AIC/AIFF file would be expected to be about 62-65% the size of your DV file, unlimited H.264/AAC 28-31%, M-JPEG/AIFF 17-18%, Photo-JPEG 14-15%, and MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC in the 3-5% range with "reasonable" quality levels.
Since each codec has somewhat different characteristics and user options, I will not go into specifics for each here. What I would recommend at this point is for you to select a short file with typical content and convert it wising the various codecs and determine what compromise in file size and quality you can live with at the display size you plan to use. This in turn will likely depend to some extent on what you plan to do with the final file. For the archiving of files for later use/editin, you like want files to retain as much quality as possible which, in turn, usually implies large file sizes. On the other hand, distribution files can be much more highly compressed as a "finished" product which you don't intend to re-compress or edit further. Remember, when you compress a file more compact format you are literally "throwing away" data so you should be most judicious in selecting that appropriate format to which to compress your files for the saving of file space.

  • Unable to Compress the request of a Cube

    Hi All,
I was trying to compress the cube data,At one request I got stuck. When ever I try to compress that request manually, but it is unable to compress the request and sends the following  job logs
    Job started
Step 001 started (program RSCOMP1, variant &0000000000190, user ID XXXXXX0006)
Performing check and potential update for status control table
No requests needing to be aggregated have been found in InfoCube 0XX_X01
Compression not necessary; no requests found for compressing
Compression not necessary; no requests found for compressing
    Job finished
After further analysis, I observed the request which I am compressing , has an selective deletion.Since its is 2year old data I would like to compress the data, please suggest is it possible to compress,If the request has selective deletion.
    please suggest.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Abdul

    Hi Abdul,
Check that, if the cube that is being compressed feeds the data to a different InfoProvider, if yes then complete that laod first and then do the compression.  this might be the reason sometimes. if the cube is not feeding anything currently try compressing the request again.
In some cases ,when  the compression is manually performed (in the tab collapse of the cube) no compression would be  done. In those cases you can try creating a process chain with only the compression step.  This often solves the problem.
If both the above  process don't solve your problem,
Try the SAP note :407230   (such problems occure after installing SP15.)
    Regards,
    Sudheer.

  • Unable to compress.

I'm new to Leopard as of two days ago. I am trying to compress a file, but the .zip file that results is the same size as the original, which I can't e-mail. I've checked permissions for the file as recommended by Mac Help, but the file still will not compress to a smalller size. Is there something I'm doing wrong or that I just don't know?

Not in the sense you're talking about (lossless file compression to .zip). A movie can be compressed lossily through video compression (programs such as Quicktime Pro or Compressor) which results in a smaller file size, with some degradation of video quality depending on the compression type (eg, to MPEG-4).
The same applies to audio - you can try to compress an AIFF file to .ZIP, but probably won't get the file much smaller; however, if you use iTunes to (lossily) compress the audio to mp3, you will get a nice size saving.

trying to export a 4 minute video to desktop.  Only 1:08 seconds exports.  I've tried other clips and they all cut at 1:08.  Used different exports like Quicktime with the same results.

Good to hear that you've had some success with the import.
I tried 3 times to do it before I finally changed it to H.264, and it worked on the first try.  The quality of the compression was terrible with those settings compared to my standard settings, but I'm just glad it worked.
Rather than Share>Export using QuickTime and then choosing your own settings for H.264, you may get a better result if you simply use the Share>Export Movie option. Alternatively, use the Share>Media Browser option (as I mentioned in my earlier post). You will be presented with a range of sizes to choose from. Depending on your target, it's usually best to select the highest size available, such as Large, HD 720p or HD 1080p. However, for producing a DVD it's best to not go beyond the HD 720p size, as the DVD will be downscaled during encoding to Standard Definition in the appropriate size for either PAL or NTSC.
In my experience, both these options (Export Movie or Media Browser) produce a video file of excellent quality. The files will be in H.264 format and will have the file extension .mov or .m4v depending on the size of the export. I'm assuming that your camera records HD video in AVCHD format.
These files work well with iDVD (or other DVD authoring programs). The export process for the presets is optimised by Apple to produce high quality video files at a reasonable file size. So, selecting a preset may give you a much better result. Choosing your own H.264 settings when using the "Export using QuickTime" method could be why "the compression was terrible". You may have selected a data (bit) rate that was too low. There is always a trade-off between quality and file size when compressing video.
So, to summarise, try one of the Apple presets using either Share>Export Movie or Share>Media Browser.

  • Compress from imovie to quicktime, saving chapters

    Hello,
I am creating movies in imovie and compressing them into quicktime movies. I have created chapters in imovie and want to preserve the chapters in the quicktime movie. What compression settings should I use for this?

I can't find a chaptered reference movie from the movies I have created. Not sure if this means you found the proper folder and it was empty or if it means you didn't know how to open the project package files. Not knowing your level of experience, will assume the latter for the moment.
    1) Locate your iMovie project file
    2) Control-mouse click on the icon
    3) Mouse click the "Show Package Contents" option in the windw that opens
    4) Double-click the "Shared Movies" folder to open it
    5) Double-click the "iDVD" folder to open it
    6) Double-click the reference MOV file that represents your current iMovie timeline to open it in the QT Player
If your iMovie timeline contains a chaptered movie/clip segment, the the QT Player should be displaying it with the chapter feature at this time. (Try selecting chapters at random in the chapter pop-up list to ensure the feature is working correctly.)
Is there a way to save the movie from imovie to quicktime with the chapters that is not so huge?If by this you are asking if it is possible to convert the movie to a new format with a much smaller file size (and/or display dimensions) and retain the chapter track, then the answer is no (as far as I know). However, you can extract the chapter data from the reference file described above and apply it to such a converted file.
I also can't find a way to save a text file from imovie. Could you explain a bit more?I personnally would recommend use of a third-party utility to do this -- Metadata Hootenanny 1.1.4 (free) -- if you are using a PPC G5 here. The following would be a typical workflow when using this utility:
    1) Export your chaptered movie from iMovie to your desired format (e.g., "Movie to iPod") in the normal manner
    2) Open Metadata Hootenanny and drop the iMovie reference file onto the "Library/Playlist" work area
    3) Press the "Open Book" icon to switch to the "Chapters" area to view chaptering data
    4) Press the "Save to Text File..." button the save the chapter data
    5) Press the "List" icon to return to the "Library/Playlist" area
    6) Delete/Clear the reference file from the list
    7) Drop your converted target file to the "Library/Playlist" area
    8) Press the "Open Book" icon to switch to the "Chapters" area again
    9) Ensure "Scale Chapters from Files" and "Allow Editing Chapter Times" options are set
    10) Press the "Open File" button and load the chaper text file saved above
    11) Test capter markers using he integrated media player and adjust frames/chapters if required
    12) Return to the "Library/Playlist" area, sace the chaptered file, clear the list, and quit
    13) Open the Movie in the QT Player, test chapters, set presentation options if desired, add graphic and set as poster frame if desired, deselect any active selected area if desired, reset play head to beginning of movie if needed, and use "Save As..." to rename final movie/reset "fast start" option as desired if destined for web use.
Am currrently busy working on a project so I can't prepare a better example of this work flow, but here is a LINK to an older sample file made in this manner.

Unable to install SQL Server 2012 along with BIDS & VS 2012 on Windows 7 professional.
    I get the below error
    Could not find vsjitdebugger.exe
Blogs say anti-virus is stopping but I dont have one on the system.
Note: I had used SQL 2008 on the system previously and has a refresh i have deleted all the software to speed up the system.
Now i could not install both the software.
Can I get some help regarding this?

    Hi Nandu,
As your description, you come across an error(vsjitdebugger.exe cannot be found). Please confirm if the error occurs during the installation of SQL Server 2012.  If so, please help post SQL Server setup logs. By default, SQL Server setup log file locates
    in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
Base on my research, this error could be caused by that the previous uninstallation is improper and vsjitdebugger.exe file could be mistakenly deleted.
To troubleshoot the issue, you could start your computer into Safe Mode and fix your problem with one of the following methods. For more information, please refer to the article:
    http://www.fixerrorkit.com/fix-error/fix-vsjitdebugger.exe-error.html.
    1. You could execute the sfc /scannow command following steps below.
    a. Press "Windows+R", type in cmd and then right click "Run as administrator"
    b. Type in sfc /scannow (There's a space between sfc and /scannow) into the dialog and hit Enter key and click ok.
    c. Wait until the System File Checker finishes the check.
    2. You could use a Windows repair installation, also known as a Startup Repair to repair your Windows system files.
    3. You could install the latest Windows updates to fix vsjitdebugger.exe error. Microsoft often releases new service packs and system patches to replace or update some DLL files of Windows system.
    4. You could use third-party tool such as Automatic Error Fix Tool to fix your vsjitdebugger.exe error. However, Microsoft cannot make any representations regarding the quality, safety, or suitability of any third-party software or information found there.
In addition, if you are unable to install  Visual Studio, I suggest you post your question in Visual Studio Setup and Installation forum at

    Hi,
I am unable to install extensions, they show up with "will be installed after you restart Firefox" even after I restart.
The "Staged" folder is present and remains after a restart, but the extensions do not get installed. They show in the extensions page with the "will be installed after you restart Firefox" message and remain like this no matter how many times I restart.
    Any Idea's?

    Many Thanks,
    BD
P.S. Just tried to install the "troubleshooter" add-on before posting the question and I got an error saying it cannot install because it cannot modify the needed file. (I did it manually instead)

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also delete the addons.sqlite file.
