Unable to connect Brother printer to Airport Extreme using USB

Hi, I recently bought a Brother HL-2270DW printer, which has 802.11 b/g wireless capabilities.  My airport extreme (2008 model) is set to 802.11 n (5 ghz), so I can't set-up the printer wirelessly to the airport extreme without changing to 802.11 b/g.  Instead I'm fine hooking up the printer to the airport extreme using a USB.  When I first turn on the printer, I can print from my Macbook, but after a few minutes, the printer goes offline and has to be turned off/on.  When I try to Open Printer Utility, there is a connection error.  I have the right driver installed, and I can print fine for a few minutes after turning on the printer, and all the time when the printer is connected to the Macbook directly using the USB.  I would like to use the printer by connecting it to the airport extreme using the USB or Ethernet.  Any help would be much appreciated, thanks,

Please explain exactly what you're experiencing that leads you to claim that.
The current firmware of the TiVo Premier is easily confused about whether it's connected to the Internet or not.  In my experience, a TiVo unit will quickly regain its senses and decide that it really is connected.

How to connect my iPad, Brother printer, and AirPort Extreme?

I don't believe any of the Brother printers are AirPrint-enabled. Is your Brother printer network-ready? That is, does is support either/both a wired or wireless connection or just uses USB to connect?

  • New to Windows RC 7 - ?connect to printer thru Airport Extreme

Okay - been a mac person forever, but have to access Windows info occasionally.
I installed RC 7 on an internal drive (directly, not via BootCamp). I am trying to set up the shared printer (HPO LaserJet 1300)I have connected via USB to my wired Airport Extreme. I was wondering if someone could guide me through the Windows RC connection to printer with this configuration for dummies?
    Thanks!

The first thing I would suggest is to download and install Bonjour for Windows. Although the current version of Bonjour is for Window XP or Vista, it should work with Windows 7. The link provides both a 32- & 64-bit version to handle just about any variation of Windows.
Then check out this iFelix article: Installing Bonjour for Windows on a Vista Business Edition PC. Again, its written for Vista, but you may be able to transpose the instructions to make fit for Windows 7.

  • Printing with Airport Extreme using PC

I have an airport extreme network with an Macbook and two windows PC's connected to it wirelessly. I can access the internet with all three, but can only print wireless with the Macbook. I've installed Bon Jour on both the PC's but they still will not print. The printer is an HP L7680 if that means anything. The two PC's are an HP and a Dell, one running XP and the other running Visa. When I contacted Apple Support they said it was printer problem and I would have to contact HP. HP tells me it's a Microsoft Driver issue and to contact Microsoft. Microsoft won't respond with an answer and I have no idea where to look for a driver that I would need to download to get the PC's to print wireless.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

I've had a similar problem and no thanks to apple tech support found a solution using hints from various apple discussions

  • Can't connect iPod Touch to Airport Extreme using "Add Wireless Clients"

I am unable to connect my iPod Touch to the local wireless network (Airport Utility v5.4.2) using "Add Wireless Clients..." in the Base Station menu.
My Powerbook G4 connects OK (with the PIN - as requested)
I can find no information in Apple's manuals or Help.

You seem to be going about this backwards. Setup your Airport base station to:
    broadcast in all modes (b/g/n)
    No MAC address filtering
    Encryption set to WPA
SSID on (you are broadcasting your network's name)
DHCP on (you are automatically assigning IP addresses)
On your touch, go to Settings > WiFi >Other Networks, enter your network name, tell the touch which security you are using (WPA) and enter your password. You should connect to your network.

  • Airport Extreme: Using USB to send music to a USB-DAC

Has anyone tried this? Can I send music data through the USB Port on the extreme to an external USB DAC (digital to analog converter)?
Would I still be able to use a USB hub and attach an external hardrive as well as a DAC?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

No there is no way to output music via the USB port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).

  • Unable to connect HP PSC 1513 printer to Airport Extreme

HI, Hopefully someone can help me. I have a HP PSC 1513 printer which previously worked through my Airport Express. I have since moved to an Airport Extreme and have tried to co locate the printer with the base station. Unfortunately nothing seems to work. I have tried everything and have all the latest software updates installed. Thank you in advance of your assistance.

By collocate do you mean connecting your printer to your extreme to print wirelessly?
    What exactly is your problem?
    Can't find printer?
    Can't print to printer?
Is it the same as this problem?

    Or possibly this one

Have you done a thorough search of these discussions?
I have seen plenty of other people with HP problems, the solution may already be out there.

  • My iMac (OS 10.7.4) has suddenly stopped printing to my Epson CX4800 printer through Airport Extreme, although it will print if connected via USB. Meanwhile, my MacBook (OS 10.5.8) prints still prints wirelessly. Please help.

May iMac (OS 10.7.4) has suddenly stopped printing to my Epson CX4800 printer through Airport Extreme, though my MacBook (OS 10.5.8) continues to function just fine). The iMac will print if it is connected to the printer directly via USB. The iMac continues to connect to the Internet wirelessly. I've tried resetting the printer and ensuring the driver is up to date, but no joy.
    Any suggestions?

Even if it was compatible, AirPrint does not work through a USB link, only Ethernet or WiFi.
I do not see your HP 4500 listed on Apple's list of AirPrint compatible printers.  <iOS: AirPrint 101>  Therefore you need to take another approach.  To start, I suggest you download the free HP App, ePrint Home & Biz.  It has limitations, but should get you printing with your existing setup.
There are other printing Apps with more features such as Print n Share and PrintCentral, but they can only be accessed from within other Apps that have the "Open In" option.
Your best option may be to share your computer's printer as AirPrint over WiFi.  Programs that are reported to do that well are Printopia and FingerPrint.  Your computer must be on and awake any time you want to print.  <Printopia for Macintosh>  <FingerPrint for PC and Mac>

  • Printing to a USB printer via Airport Extreme

I recently purchased an Airport Extreme and connected it to an ADSL router using ethernet. The router is then connected to my company network (PC, Windows, hubs etc). On the AE USB port, I also connected a Sansumg ML-1710P printer which works fine if I connect it directly to my Macbook.
I can add the printer (bonjour) but when I order it to print, the job with start and then just stop and the status indicated "error".
Did try several suggestion from this discussion including using the 10.4.7 combo update, update the CPUS to 1.2.1, connect/disconnect, download new driver without success.
    Anyone has any suggestion? Thanks.

Normaly this connection the way you describe it won't work.
The Airport Extreme Base Station is a Router as well
It is normaly done from the Internet Service Providers Modem with an ethernet cable to the Airport Extreme Base connected to the little cicle of dots on the back. It is set to distribute IP's and DCHP and then the arrows pointing away from one another is then cabled to the other Router and then plug in the printer to the Airport Extreme's USB and the other computers to the ethernet port on the 2nd Router, and it must be set NOT TO DISTRIBUTE IP'S

  • Access to external drives connected to Airport Extreme via USB Hub

I have 2 computers connected wirelessly to an Airport Extreme 802.11n base station. I have a Belkin powered USB hub connected to the USB port on the Extreme. There is a Lacie hard drive, a USB printer and a Kingston flash drive connected to the USB hub.
The printer was connected using Bonjour and is working fine. The other devices connected to the USB hub aren't getting picked up. They did work at one point, but are no longer viewable from the computers (MAC Book and Windows XP). How can I re-configure the Extreme or my computers so that they'll work again?

DLNA = Digital Living Network Alliance. DLNA works in a Server-Client fashion with the Server providing the means to stream audio/video files to the client. DLNA servers are also called media servers. The AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), with an attached USB HDD at best, can perform as a media storage device ... not as a server. You would still need a media server (either hardware or software) to perform this role.
For example, I use a software DLNA-compliant media server, called TwonkyServer. I run this server on one of my Mac minis. It gets its media files that are stored on a USB HDD attached to my 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn). TwonkyServer then streams these video files to my Xbox 360 which performs as a media client/player.

  • Network host HPF.local is busy  -  Unable to connect to printer;

Recently when trying to print with a wifi bonjour networked OfficeJet J4680 this is the notice I receive, and it will never print.
Does anyone have any advice other than throwing the printer, or my computer out of the window?
Network host 'HPFBlah.local' is busy; will retry in 30 seconds...
Eventually the notice will change to...
    'Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds...';

Removing the wifi networked Printer from System Preferences > Printers, and then turning OFF the OfficeJet's wifi option, and instead plugging it into the Airport with a USB cable resolved the issue.

  • 1 out of 2 computers cannot Print via Airport Extreme

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 connected to the USB connector on my Airport Extreme. I have 2 MacBook Pro Computers connected wireless to the Airport Extreme.
On one of thes computers I have no problem printing over the network on the Epson Printer.
On the other computer, when I want to print a document and click on file/Print, I get the usual dialog box and when I click on print, a fleeting popup is on my screen and nothing prints. The printer queu is empty and it says printer ready. When I plug the printer directly into the USB connector on the computer, it prints fine.
Apple support suggested that I make sure I have the latest printer driver, which I downloaded - no change.
I also reswtored the hardware preferences by booting up while holding down CMDoption+RP - no change.
Has anyone had a similar experience and what was the solution.

Did you actually install that driver and create a new printer entry in System Preferences?
This may not fix your problem, but try resetting the printing system: Open the Print & Fax panel of System Preferences, control-click (right-click) on the printer, and select the that entry from the contextual menu.

  • Printing through Airport Extreme limited to less than one page.

I have my MacBook Pro, and my wife's MacBook (dual-core), connected wirelessly to my Airport Extreme (802.11n). I have my printer (Canon MP-800 Multifunction) connected to my Airport. When I try to print I can only get about 3/4 of one page to print, no matter how many pages the file really is. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

Try the following on your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
    Click the Internet Connection tab
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to read Share a public IP address
    Click Update

  • Can't connect to MacBook with Airport Extreme

I just swapped Airport Extreme base with new Airport Extreme 8012.N and now my Macbook can't connect to internet, keeps cutting out and dropping off. I have an iMac G5 connected via ethernet to Airport Extreme and Macbook in living room. It was working fine with old Airport Extreme router. I also have an Apple Express (not new 8012.N ) but it just blinks orange when plugged in. Any help would be appreciated.

You have to power down everything to start with. Make a clean slate so to speak.
I switched from an older Air Port Express to the new Extreme. Run the new software and when you power back up the new base station should show in the window. Follow the steps. It made me feel stupid the 1st time through and I had to do it again. You have to take your bent paperclip and reset.
After I got the new base station up and running I took the old Express and used it for Airtunes. At first it just blinked and wouldn't show up on the list of devices. I had to do the paperclip thing. And there it was! Green light! Follow the steps for Airtunes. Then I had to reconfigure my settings for my HP 3300 series wireless printer. That wasn't so bad, it all worked.
The machines all work well; we all just need pay close attention to the instructions.
I think that the Apple on line instructions could be a bit more clear. It all worked as it was supposed to but it was certainly a trial and error process.
