Unable to connect laptop to HDTV

I have a Compaq 620 laptop and Philips HDTV 42HFL4482F.The OS is Windows 7 Home Basic. The cable Im using is VGA. The laptop screen goes blank and the TV screen reads Video format not supported or no video signal. The Intel graphics media driver  version is 8.15.10.2057 and the accelerator in use is Mobile Intel 4 series Express Chipset family. Also the Intel Graphics and Media control panel says Monitor/TV settings not supported. The key fn +F4 option is of no joy. Can anyone help me please.

Greetings,
After checking the manual of your TV there are a few things I would like to recommend. The first is to ensure that your source is on the VGA setting. You can change this by using the Source button. As well, ensure that you are plugged into the VGA in, and not the RS232 (Service Port).
If these were both OK, I would reboot your PC after connection and see if you can see a boot screen on your TV. If you can, then more than likely your resolution is set too high. It is important to maintain a resolution of 1920 x 1080 or less. (1920 x 1080 is 1080P/1080i High Definition resolution). Anything larger than this, then your TV will not display your picture, or will display it distorted.
We need to gather more information about your computer to assist you properly. If you could select the Start menu, then type dxdiag in the search box and press enter. After that has completely loaded, select the Save All button. Save that file to your desktop. Afterwards, on your desktop should be a dxdiag.txt. Open that file and copy from the top to the bottom of the Video section and paste it into this thread.
Good Luck
Brent

  • HDMI Issue connecting laptop to HDTV

Hi Guys - I had my laptop connected to my HDTV via HDMI. I had unplugged the HDMI to take the laptop on vacation. It's been awhile since I connected it. Now when I connect the HDMI, I am getting the visual but not the audio on the tv. What am I forgetting or do I need to change a setting on the laptop (Toshiba Satellite C855 S5350)?
    Thanks!

I believe that you need to go into your audio settings when the laptop is connected to the TV and change the default audio device from the built-in laptop speakers to the entry marked "HD audio" or something similar.
P.S. The cake is a lie.

  • Unable to connect laptop with Windows 2000

I have Lynksys router WRT54G. I have 3 laptops in house connecting to internet with no problem. A new person has moved in with a laptop that has windows 2000. The new person is not able to get an internet connection. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Win2K was wirelessly accessing the internet previously to moving here. This laptop has MA 251 net gear wireless modem card that sticks out of the side. Owner got this laptop several years ago when she was in the Army.
The Win2K cannot see the other 3 laptops.
Sorry but I don't know the answer to your 3rd question.
Linksys service rep suggested maybe needing ethernet cable to get the Win2K connected.

  • Unable to connect laptop to Photosmart Plus B210a

I have a new Photosmart Plus B210a that I have been unsuccessful connecting to with my Toshiba Satellite laptop running windows XP.  I have a second PC, a Dell Desktop, that I was able to connect and print flawlessly from.  Both are on the same network, using the same firewall.
When I attempt to use the HP software (tried both the CD that came with the printer as well as the newest version on HP's support website) and connect via wireless, I am able to see the printer with correct IP address (reserved in DHCP on my router).  When i select it and click next, it acts like it is trying to connect then i get a message saying it was Unsuccessful.
I downloaded and ran the HP network diagnostic utility and am able to see the printer there as well.  When I "Check Connection" I immediately get a message saying the "Software Missing!  HP Software required to connect to your printer over the network could not be found on this computer."
I have verified that I have the  newest versions of the HP software installed on the laptop.  I have also verified that the firmware is current on my router.  The laptop is current on all Microsoft updates.
If i connect the laptop via USB cable, the printer works flawlessly.
Any suggestions would be welcomed and I would like to thank you in advance for any assistance.

    Update:
I completely disabled my antivirus (Avast!) and disabled the only firewall (windows firewall) and can confirm that neither of those is preventing the installation.
I deleted every trace of HP and Hewlett Packard software by deleting all folders, registry keys, temp files, and programs.  Restarted the laptop, and reinstalled the newest software from the "Support and Drivers" section of the website for the HP Photosmart Plus B210a for windows XP, and still no luck.
I was able to install the printer manually by going into control panel >> printers and faxes, and adding a new printer.  I used a standard TCP/IP port a entered the IP address of the printer.  This allows me to print, but I still cannot connect using the HP software, which would allow me to do the fancy stuff like scanning.

  • Unable to connect laptop using wireless Linksys router SES 36576

I have a Linksys wireless router (SES 36576) and a new HP laptop (Vista OS). Using my old laptop running XP, I was able to connect wirelessly. Linksys indicates that my signal is EXCELLENT; however, when I input the security key and it searches for the connection, it just flat-out will not connect. I don't know where to start because I've never had this problem before. Is my router compatible??
    Thanks for your help.

Hi, the number you have for your router does not match any model number for a Linksys router.  Wireless routers from linksys normally have their model numbers start with WBR
    My Cisco Network Magic Configuration:
Router: D-Link WBR-2310 A1 FW:1.04, connected to Comcast High Speed Internet
Desktop, iMac: NM is on the Windows Partition, using Boot camp to access Windows, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM, Broadcom Wireless N Card, McAfee Personal Firewall 2009,
Mac Partition of the iMac is using Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard
Laptop: Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, McAfee Personal Firewall 2008
Please note that though I am a beta tester for Network Magic, I am not a employee of Linksys/Cisco and am volunteering my time here to help other NM users.

  • Unable to connect laptop to WRT54GSv5

Installed WRT54GSv5 between my cable modem (RR) and desktop via Ethernet cable and it works fine.
Tried to connect with Toshiba laptop wirelessly and I cannot get a connection. Laptop sees the network connection by it doesn't connect. I was, however, able to connect via an Ethernet cable from laptop to router.
I used Linksys net set safed to thumb drive and installed on laptop, but that didn't go so smoothly either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Unable to connect laptop to Internet.

I have an iMac, pc and two laptops. All had a wireless connection to the internet via an old Belkin router which died this week. I purchased an Airport extreme 802.11n and set up a new network with this. I had no problem until I came to the last laptop running XP. It picks up my network but when I go to connect it allows connection but recognises it as an unidentified public network and only gives local access to the network and not the internet. I have tried all my limited knowledge allows but cannot get laptop to connect to internet. Can anyone help.

Ok, let's try this one step at a time, if you don't mind.
Let's start by connecting the Vista laptop to the AEBSn by Ethernet. Can it access the Internet now?
While connected by Ethernet; From the Vista desktop, open a Command window by entering cmd into the Search window, and then, press <Enter>.
At the command prompt, enter ipconfig /all, and then, press <Enter>. In the resulting display, under Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection, note the values for:
    o DHCP Enabled
    o Autoconfiguration Enabled
    o IPv4 Address
    o Default Gateway
    o DHCP Server
    o DNS Servers
I would expect that both DHCP Enabled & Autoconfiguration Enabled values should be "Yes." The IPv4 Address value should be something like: 192.168.n.n or 10.0.1.n, depending on how you have the AEBSn configured for DHCP. The Default Gateway should be something like 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.1.1, and there should be at least one IP address for the DNS Servers field.

when i connect the vga cable from the tv to my laptop, the following text appears, "Unsupported Video Signal".  my laptop recognizes the tv but no adjustments that i make will get the picture to appear on the tv.  any help will be appreciated.  thanks.

What laptop?  What adjustments have you tried on the laptop?  What resolutions does the tv support for the VGA input, and have you set the laptop's VGA output to match one of those resolutions?

  • Unable to connect laptop

I have a WRT54G2V1 connected to my desktop. I am trying to get my laptop to connect to the internet. I cannot find a network name or WEP key. I tried putting in the default 192.168.1.1 & use admin as the password but it kept wanting me to put in a user name. My desktop runs on Vista and my laptop runs on XP. I don't know if there is any other information you need but I would appreciate any help you could give me!
    Thank you,
    Kelly

Try to reset the router. Afterwards, go to the setup page and check if you can access it.
To get your internet back again, follow the procedure below:
For DSL connection, here's the procedure.
For Cable connection, here's the procedure.

  • Unable to connect laptop to wireless network

My MacBook Pro will not connect to my wireless network, but my iPad does so I know it must be a problem with my computer rather than the network. Any suggestions?
I'm not sure if there is some obscure setting that I need to change.

    Give us more information, please.
Is your wireless network supplied by your ISP, your landlord, your own router, or something else?
What can you tell us about the settings on your wireless network? (Not the passwords.)
Did this ever work, or is this the first time you have tried to connect the MBP to this wireless network?
What model/year MBP is this? It has to be somewhat old if it is running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) as per your profile.

You need to ask Apple for assistance with getting back into your old ID. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to resolve this issue through the Account Security team, fill out and submit this form.

  • I have a Motorola SB6141 modem that is connected to a time capsule. I am unable to connect to the internet on my laptop and playstation 3

Ive just switched to a "Motorola SURFboard eXtreme Cable Modem" which is connected to a time capsule.
I am unable to connect to my internet via. wifi on my Playstation.
I have already tried many different attempts to connect to the internet. I have tried to directly connect to the internet using an ethernet cable as well as restarting my mac laptop and playstation. I am only able to connect to the internet on my main computer.
    Please help?
I tried being the most descriptive I could

I am only able to connect to the internet on my main computer.
What IP does your main computer get.. ?? Post a screenshot if you can as it helps to see the details.
When you open the airport utility on the main computer.. click on the TC what errors does it show?
They will list in the summary.
What mode is the TC in? If the setup went wrong it might be bridged when it should be in router mode..
Remember any time to change things around with cable modems you MUST shut down the modem as well.. it cannot change the MAC address of the first item easily so need to be off.. a few minutes at least.. sometimes up to 20min or longer. Make sure the TC captures the public IP on the wan interface.. which is the only way this will work with a pure modem.
The most recent TC can still have issues.. new AC version TC and AE have the Max amount of issues with SB6121 and 6141.. there seems to be some ethernet issue between them..
What model TC do you have??
You can slow the LAN port down or specify the actual speed in the Gen1-4.

  • Unable to connect to Deskjet 3545 via Wireless Direct from Windows 8.1 laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad E530)

Hi, It's a newly bought printer. I am unable to connect to the printer via Wireless Direct from Windows 8.1 64bit laptop. I have enabled the Wireless Direct with security on the Printer. Connected to the Printer SSID from my laptop wifi. Created the new printer from Driver software. It discovers the printer with it's name,IP etc; Upon selecting the printer and click on 'Next' button on the screen, results in a 5 min search process and finally displays that it could not connect. I have tried pinging the printer and it's able to pingf the IP of the printer successfully. I have even tried disabling the Norton antivirus, but result is the same. regards, sathwik
