Unable to connect my ipod touch (2nd gen I think) to itunes.

Hey , basically I'm ready to give up on my touch after spending ages trying to fix it and just getting error messages.  I can't get my i tunes to recognize it.
Computer:
hp pavilion g series with windows 7.
Steps taken to fix it :
I've followed the online help but to no avail . ( I just seem to vary the error message slightly)
uninstalled and reinstalled various times.
Downgraded itunes.
tried to restart apple mobile devices but I found that I couldn't having the pop-up stating that it started then stopped , within writing this this has started working.
Bounjour services not working , only recently been able to restart this.
It recently started working but only for about 5 minutes (a beautiful moment XD even if it didn't freeze at first when it finally recognised my ipod) then I had to remove the device and now I'm getting "Itunes could not connect to the iphone "" because an invalid response was received from the device." But I'm connecting a touch and have nothing to do with an iphone installed on my computer.
The main thing I want to be able to do is to copy some new cd's to my ipod , (once I get itunes working I'll have to find a way to remove my songs from it. ( transfer purchases doesn't work as a lot of my cds aren't available on itunes, I tried this in it itunes 5 minutes of lucidity -.-)
If anyone could help me fix this I'd be very grateful as I'm pretty fed up of having the same songs on replay daily for a good few months if more. Also It may stop me from throwing the thing out the window in frustration.
Cheers

- What were the specific errors?  Some erros say that the cuse could be a hardware problem. If that were the case them anybe you have a hardware problem with the iPod.
- Have you tried another comuter, even a friend's computer?
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Can't connect my Ipod Touch 2nd gen to home wireless network - please help

I have just received a 2G ipod touch today and it will not connect to my home network. I have a SKY Netgear router with numerous devices wirelessly connected with WPA security. I have input the shared network key when my Ipod asks for a password but it will not connect (even if I am stood next to my router). I just get "Unable to join the network .........". I have tried connecting via the 'other' network route but still the same result. Please help.

Here's a few things you can do to get to the bottom of the problem:
    - Have you ever connected to a public hotspot? The only reason I ask is this will rule out hardware problems. If you are not close to anything, download and install the free app WiFinder from the app store. Once you have the app installed, you see what networks are around you. If nothing is working, contact Apple and either visit the Genius Bar or return it Apple.
    - If you have disabled encryption in your router and you are still be prompted for a password, you need to tap on that network name and tap Forget Network. And to really make sure everything is cleaned out, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network settings.
    - After your iPod restarts, use WiFinder to find your network. WiFinder will tell you whether or not you have encryption on or off and the type of encryption used. If it is still off, just tap the Connect button. If you have turned it back on, go to Settings > WiFi > Other network and enter your network name. You will be prompted for your encryption scheme and your password. WPA and WPA2 should have a password entered. WEP should have the hex key entered.
    - If you still can't connect, I would check and reenter my password. Passwords are case sensitive.
    - Assuming you have connected, tap the blue arrow (>) next to your network name. You should see your IP address, subnet mask, router IP address, and DNS router addresses, you are good to go.
    - If you have an IP address of 169.x.x.x, your router is not supplying an IP address. Recommend router settings are:
    SSID - on
    DHCP - on
    MAC filtering - off
Encryption - on and set to WPA or WPA2
    DNS - automatic from ISP
    Let us know what happens.

  • Ipod Touch (2nd gen) drawing too much power, disable USB?

Earlier today, when my iPod Touch (2nd gen) was syncing with iTunes, it disconnected and this error message popped up:
Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.
To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device darwing too much power has been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing to much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again.
Now, my Ipod will not sync or charge. I've tried connecting other USB devices (cell phone, wireless mouse and ehd) and get the same message. I've tried a few suggestions online like: restarting/shutting down the computer, restarting the IPod, resetting the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM. None of these worked. I've connected my iPod to my roommate's iMac and it connected with no problem. Is there anything else I can do before using the Genius bar?

I recently bought an Ipod touch 2nd gen, (Ebay). It's in great shape and seemed to be wiped clean.
When I connect (via windows computer) to Itunes with usb cord the Ipod icon shows, but the only function you can do is eject. When its in the upper right hand corner and you click on it all you get is a done button, when it's in the side bar right click and your only option is eject, left click has no effect. If I go to "file">devices it's as if there are no devices connected.
I purchased a song with Itunes on the Ipod itself, and it transferred to my library on the computer automatically .
I have an Iphone 5 and a nano that are still functioning with Itunes thru computer so I'm thinking the issue is with the Ipod touch. I've reset it several times, rebooted it, with no change.
nothing on the internet has helped, I called tech support and got disconnected. Should I take it to a retail store? I just don't know where to go next, I'm of course willing to pay for tech or repair. looking for suggestions.

    Try:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

It means the device is in recovery mode.  You'll need to reconnect it to iTunes and restore it again.
You may need to connect it in recovery mode manually using the instructions in this Apple support document.

  • IPod touch 2nd Gen 8gb will no longer Sync photos.

all the posts I could find that were similar had to do with ipods that were jailbroken and on Windows.
I have iTunes 10.1, iPhoto 6.0.6. running on OSX 10.6.5
    iPod Touch 2nd Gen 8GB OS 4.2.1
The Problem: Since I got 4.0 and later, I have not been able to sync photos from iphoto. itunes says that it is, the bar moves and says all photos have been synced, all the photos I want synced are checked in itunes and still nothing when I check them on my ipod. iPod says no photos in album. I tried deleting the ipod cache on my mac, nothing. I tried syncing to a single file folder with the same photos, same. I tried exporting all the photos I wanted synced to a separate folder to jpg and smaller resolution, same result, no photos on ipod.
Note. the photos used to sync up until 4.0
I have also tried starting from scratch and putting it back to factory defaults then going from backup. Same result.
I have tried rebooting both iMac and iPod, same thing.
and I hate how I can't just email apple and tell them the problem.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I just can't seem to find anyone else with the same problem.
Thanks in advance for the possible help.

I dont get an error message at all. itunes just does its normal business when syncing and says its synced, but no photos. I have never tried mobile me, so I dont think my problem is connected. I dont have $300 to get a new ipod. this makes me sad.

  • Why is my wifi on my ipod touch 2nd gen not working?

Can someone help with the wifi on my ipod touch 2nd Gen? Yesterday it suddenly stopped connecting to anything wifi. No settings were changed. The only thing I did was go to itunes for the first time in well, forever. I always use it on my computer to go in itunes, not my ipod. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I could still get on Safari after that but I don't really remember. At some point in the evening it stopped connecting. I can't get on Safari, my mail won't refresh, it would connect to the app store, nothing. Sometimes a message does pop up saying there was a problem connecting to the server. I can't figure this out, internet on my computer is running perfectly fine. My ipod wifi is on, airplane mode off. When I go into my settings it shows my network and that it's connected. I haven't connected it or synced it to the new itunes. I actually haven't downloaded the update yet. Ipod is up to date though without the new sync. Can anyone help me out? I'm very confused.
    Thanks

  • IPod Touch (2nd gen) not recognized by computer and iTunes

When I connect my iPod Touch to my laptop, running Windows 7, neither the computer nor iTunes recognizes my iPod. Everything worked before with Vista.
When I plug the iPod into the computer the iPod does turn on put the battery doesn't charge and the iPod does not show on the Device Manager.
I have gone through and uninstalled and the reinstalled iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application support. With no positive result. In fact I have done it twice.
In going back to make sure everything had installed I have noticed several things.
The Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes folders and Common Files are located in Program Files(x86) There are also copies of the Bonjour, iPod, Common Files, and iTunes folders are also located in the Program Files folder. Are these file locations correct?
Also, I have read somewhere that there should be usbaapl.cab, usbaapl.inf, usbaapl.sys files. I can't find any of these file. Are these files necessary?
    Any help will be appreciated.

greetings rkonrv and welcome to Apple discussions !
it seems your have seen this KG then.
maybe this tip by Beebopp (though a little off topic) will provide some pointers:
+This solution is very similar to one above but worked for me. Am using iPod Touch 2nd Gen with 32 bit version of Windows Vista where the iTouch is being seen by Windows but does not show in iTunes. In my case it was being identified by Windows as a camera. I tried un-installing and re-installing iTunes and all the other Apple apps with no luck. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to C:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Try this if you are having similiar issues.+
    +Here are the steps:+
    +1. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"+
+2. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account+
+3. Single left click on START+
+4. Single left click on RUN (You may need to change the start menu to 'classic view' to see RUN, you can change back after if you like)+
    +5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)+
+6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)+
+7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)+
+8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties+
+9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab+
+10. Single left click on " Update driver "+
+11. Select " Install from a list or specific location " or "Browse my computer" whichever shows on your version of Vista+
+12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search " if shown+
+13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box " Include this location in the search "+
+14. Single left click NEXT and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected, if no list appears then you should see the little animated circle thingie spinning. It's looking and working. Be patient.+
+15. Hopefully you will get a successful message.+
    +16. The correct drivers(s) are now installed.+
+17. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.+
    good luck !

  • IPod Touch (2nd gen) - Does not work with Component AV Cable

I have a 2nd generation iPod Touch. Today I bought the component AV cable at the Apple store (along with a universal dock). Connected it correctly to the TV and:
    1. No picture (screen is blue, as though nothing connected); no sound (whether video or music)
    2. Whatever video is playing on the actual iPod gets stuck - as though it is on "pause", with the difference that you can push "play" and "pause" and the only thing that does is change the "play" or "pause" icon from one to the other or vice-versa--video will not actually play
    3. Setting Widescreen to "on" or "off" has no effect
    4. Tried connecting it to an old iPod Nano (2nd gen I think) - also no sound.
    Please advise!

    Alex_K
Try changeing your TV out setting, found in the (Settings) of your ipod. Following Paragraph found in the iPod User manual (Page 98): http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipodtouch
"Use these settings to set up how iPod touch plays videos on your TV. For more
information about using iPod touch to play videos on your TV, see “Watching Videos
on a TV” on page 39.
Turn widescreen on or off: Choose Video and turn Widescreen on or off.
Set TV signal to NTSC or PAL: Choose Video > TV Signal and select NTSC or PAL.
NTSC and PAL are TV broadcast standards. iPod touch displays NTSC 480p/PAL 576p
when attached to a TV using a component cable, or NTSC 480i/PAL 576i using a
composite cable. Your TV might use either of these, depending on where you bought
it. If you’re not sure which to use, check the documentation that came with your TV. "
    Hope that helps,
    Weston
