Unable to Connect to Database from Forms/Reports 6i

I can't find anything wrong with my TNSNAMES.ORA file, yet I can't connect to my database through forms or reports.
The errors I keep getting is TNS-12154 and TNS-12203. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Did you literally go into your tns file and put all of your specific envirnmental specifications?
Is the listener up and running?
Are you using the right alias?

Not able to connect to database from Form builer

Hi ,
I installed oracle 10 g in my machine and is accessable from SQLPLUS & TOAD.
In the same drive i installed Form builder, i am getting the below error when i tried to connect DB from form builder.
ORA- 12154 : TNS : could not resolve service name.

Do you connect when you set username , passwd , database....????
If you can via another tool , for example sql*plus then simply , copy the particular setting tns alias , you use to connect to this db, from [ORACLE_HOME]\network\admin\tnesanames.ora and paste it to [DEV2000_HOME]\network\admin\tnsnames.ora

Getting exception ORA-12705 while trying to connect to database from forms 9i

Hello All,
I have installed 9i database and I gave path for oracle home as Oracle_path while installing. then I installed 9i dev suite, Installer forced me to use different Oracle home, so I gave Odev_path as path.
I have created server alias name from dev suite to Oracle database and I could connect to database from froms 9i. suddenly it started giving me the following exception when I try to connect database from forms 9i.
ORA-12705 invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified
could some one help toresolve the issue.

I have already seen this document and tried it out, but it didn't work. And I have tried out numerous other tips that I have found in different places on the web.
Is the client installation of any relevance? I notice that this user has a different installation from the one that I have, and that he amongst other things doesn't have sql plus installed.

Error connecting to database from Crystal Report

I am using Crystal report 2008, .NET 3.5 on Windows Server 2008 + SQL Server 2008
I have a batch that generates report (via export) then this batch will send the exported report via email.
I am encountering this error when reading report from BO Server
Error: CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.LogOnException: Database logon failed. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8004100F): Database logon failed.

While when trying to read the report from physical file within the server, it will give me this error

The report is working in our SIT environment but it is not working in our UAT environment.
I have tried the following:
1) running the batch (that generates the report) in SIT environment to call SIT database

2) running the batch (that generates the report) in SIT environment to call UAT database
Will give the above error
3) running the batch (that generates the report) in UAT environment to call UAT database
Will give the above error
4) running the batch (that generates the report) in UAT environment to call SIT database
Working fine
For reading report from BO Server, I have tried viewing the report directly and scheduling the report directly from BO Server and it works fine.
Also I have tried to 'verify database' on the UAT report, but it seems it didn't solve the issue.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this? Or what could cause this?

The error is thrown when trying to export --> crDoc.Export()
The username and password are correct because it is the same username and password that the batch used to extract the data in the initial stage.
Here's how my batch works:
1) Extract and massage data directly from .net SP (this is working fine)
2) Obtain the report then use the same connection string (for physical path report) or use the report connection string (for bo server report), this report is using Stored Procedure (the problem starts here)
For reading report from bo server, I have also checked that the connection from the report itself is correct, because we can schedule/view the report from bo server successfully.
SQL Driver, is it the SQL Native Client you are saying? It's SQL Native Client 10.
I think we are using Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.1 Client Tools SP2 in our apps server.

Connect to Database from FORMS API - Forms 6i

Hi,
We have a requirement of connecting to a Database from the Forms API. I have written few Forms API from the header files provided by ORACLE. But all of those doesnt require to connect to the database.
Now, i have a requirement to connect to a database and query from a table and so on. I hope many of this forum users would have developed many such programs.
Please mail me or post a reply to this thread if you have any sample program of the same from where i can take it up.

We are using only 6.0.8.14.1. So as per your reply i dont have the jar file at my end.
However with the existing C API's i am not sure whether i can achieve my requirement.
Let me explain my exact requirment.
1) Connect to a DB
2) Execute a Select Query to a table and fetch few values and store in a Variable
3) Assign the value to a Trigger of a ITEM.
Is it possible to achieve this through the existing C API or through the Java API you have suggested us. Its better if you can forward any C API stuff for this, as production environment(s) are running with 6.0.8.14.1

Unable to connect to database from Unifier9.1 configurator

After installing Unifier on Windows 2008 R2 64bit server , invoked Unifier Configurator while configuring database, i am unable to connect to oracle 11g database and connection test failed.
I have ensure database, listner, telnet, ping are working fine from Unifier server to database server.
Please let me know any pre-requisites required to make connection successful. I have invoked Configurator as Administrator as stated in installation doc.

Im trying to connect to Oracle database from my windows command prompt, these are the steps I followed:
1) cd C:\oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1\sqlplus
2) sqlplus username\password@hostname:1521\service_name
I do get the error ORA-06401: NETCMN: invalid driver designator
I did try using the SQLPLUS \NOLOG
Connect username\password@hostname:1521\service_name
I still get the same error.
I did manually type all the commands to make sure no additional charaters coming and etc...How shall I overcome this...

Unable to connect to database from forms6i

i have installed form61 and PO8i on my machine and was working perfectly till yesterday.
but today i was able to log into the database but not through the forms.it give an ORA-12203unable to connect to the destination.
Please help in this issue.
I have installed a VC++ compiler today, will that be a problem for this issue...

Since you had installed f6i and o8i in the same m/c so obviously with different homes. It had been earlier working fine with both forms and oracle. And now you can connect from oracle db, But not forms. So the main reason can be that the listener is not started. So check if it is running. If not start the listener and check. If it works fine, if not then check if the tnsnames.ora file is there at the correct location in forms home dirctory. if yes then see, if the network protocal, address and port addresses in listener.ora in oracle home and tnsnames.ora entries in forms home net8 are correct. If not make the correct entries.
Check this, as there shall be a problem with it only as it was working earlier otherwise there can be an error in the network protocols. See if it helps

Connect to remote database from forms

I installed 10g developer suite on windows.I have a 10g database running on HPUX server.
I need to connect to this database from forms ( i,e from windows ).
Do i need to install an Oracle client so that forms can talk to a remote database?
I edited C:\Forms_Dev\NETWORK\ADMIN/tnsnames.ora to include the remote database entry. It's not working. So I am thinking maybe I need to install oracle client as a go between.

How to connect to an Oracle XE database from Forms

Hello,
I have just installed Oracle XE on my computer. After that I downloaded Oracle Developer Suite. My intention is to build programs with Forms. This forms program shall manage data stored in my Oracle XE database.
My question is: How to connect to the Oracle XE database from forms. In forms developer I have tried to connect the database with the command Ctrl+J. Then I registered username, password and oracle instance (orcl). It will not work!

Hi Everyone, there is a problem in login.
The software is working fine from long time,
Today all of a sudden while I logged into the software [which was created using oracle/reports 6i] (Version - Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production)],
I got the error saying Unable to connect to Database Contact IT Dept.
The same software is working fine in all the systems.
In only 1 system, that error message is displayed.

From this message, it is understood that your database connectivity credentials is not correct.
What makes you think that ? Do you know the Oracle error that caused the message ? (which is evidently generated by the application)
Recently did you changed any password - which may be hardcoded on form.

are you using the Aliases for the SQL Server, make sure your account having the correct permission.
If it is your QA farm, you can run the config wizard to fix his problem...
